Added application opens with Logic 9

Hi,
I use Logic 9.0.0 and Leopard (Mac OS 10.5.8).
An application called CoreMIDIServer.framework always opens with Logic (located in Macintosh HD>System>Library>Frameworks. Has anyone had this? This doesn't seem right.
Thanks.

First, why not update to 9.0.2 or 9.1?
Secondly, where did you see this? In Activity Monitor?
Thirdly, I would expect the coremidiserver to open whenever I open an app that uses MIDI...
having said that, I don't see it in AM when I start Logic - though I believe the Logic splash screen flashes something about initializing it... unfortunately this text only stays on for 38 milliseconds or so, so it is hard/impossible to read...
Do you experience problems?

  • CS6 Master Suite applications open with "...damaged...reinstall.."

This started happening recently. InDesign and Acrobat, my usual applications seem to work properly, despite the message. This is a long-time original OS X installation, updated to 10.6.8, with all patches, not an upgrade from an earlier OS. MacBook Pro, 6GB RAM, 37GB free on 500GB drive. No font manager, but some InDesign plug-ins installed.
    Ideas about what's causing this?
Will running install repair the applications, or do I need to deactivate, uninstall, run cleaner, then reinstall the Master Suite?
    Thanks,

Peter S: Thanks for the idea of verifying hardware. I was disappointed to find no errors, IOW, hardware isn't in trouble, so I had to look further.
Because the installer wants all applications to be exited, I thought to try opening several Master Suite apps that I'd not opened before, to see if the message appears for them, too. It did. However, one message - not sure which app raised it - was specific: the Adobe Application Manager, needed to validate the apps, was missing.
Well, hmmm, maybe that's because it had become so annoying, I'd deleted it recently! So, I'm expecting no more messages after I download and install AAM.

I think a repair would certainly be in order before a full uninstall/cleaner/reinstall cycle.

  • Odd folder/application opening with DVDSP

So now (FCS2 - 10.5) when I open DVDSP I also see in my list of open applications (command tabs key down) two objects that look like folders with the name "MultiMediaImporter.oxygene"
Any help on getting rid of these. Not a problem just a nuisance.
    | TonyTony |

Thanks Paul! This solution worked great.
    To reiterate:
Problem: upon launching DVD Studio Pro two generic folder icons representing multimediaimporter.oxygene also 'launch'.
    Solution:
Start DVD Studio Pro. Right-click on one of the 'multimediaimporter.oxygene' folders in the Dock and select 'Show in Finder'. Quit DVD Studio Pro now. Back in Finder navigate to the 'Contents' folder of 'multimediaimporter.oxygene' and back-up the existing 'Info.plist' by selecting File > Duplicate in Finder. Now open 'Info.plist' in TextEdit. After the 5th line ("<dict">) add two lines:
    <key>NSUIElement</key>
    <string>1</string>
You can also add a tab at the beginning of the line for formatting . Save the changes and relaunch DVD Studio Pro for all you authoring needs.

  • Applications opening with a frame and no centre

I have just moved to a iMac from a PC, when I open some of my new Mac applications like Photoshop or Nikon Capture NX2 I get a framed border with the desktop wallpaper still showing.
The applications are already opened in full screen, it is just that there is a gap in the middle that is the desktop, the application is a frame around the edge of the screen. When you open up a picture it is there but with the desktop showing around it, if you click on the wrong bit the application minimises back to the desktop. Photomatix, NX2 and Photoshop CS5 does it, Lightroom 4, Aperture and Photoshop CS6 do not. I find this really annoying and want them all to open up as a full window with no background showing. Can I do this?

  • Audio file "open with" default setting

    Hi,
Each time i export a file from Logic, i see the Logic logo, and it says "open with" Logic if i make get info.
I'd like to export audio files that would open with QuickTime as the default application.
Where is that preference located ?
    thanks

You do exactly that in the "I"nfo menue - open any exported file - apple+hit "I" - select "open with quicktime" and in the field below select "change all" (translated from my german menue - then all files will open in quick time as default.

  • About 'Open With' on bridge CS6

Running CS6 tools from the 'cloud' package
My goal is to have two options under Bridges' Right click/open with list.
    1) photoshop CS6
    2) Image Data Converter (Sony's raw converter for *.arw)
I see no way to effect this.  Using windows settings, I can make Image Data Converter the default for
*.arw files, then it appears on bridges' 'open with' list, but then there is no option for photoshop CS6.
Again using windows settings to make the default photoshop... I then have photoshop on bridges' 'open with'
list, but no 'Image Data Converter'.
But in both cases the only other thing on the list, is something called 'Com Surrogate 6.1', something I've
never heard of and have no idea what it is.   Further, nothing happens when I click that item.
So, what can I do to have "photoshop" and "Image Data Converter" on bridges' 'open with' menu?
I'm confused by Bridges' Edit/preferrences/ File assosciations, in that it appears NOT to offer any way to set
associations for Bridge... At the Sony item on the list it only offers you an opportunity to set the default for
'Windows explorer'... And the 'Com Surrgate 6.1' seems to be non-negoatiable.... Makes me wonder why the
File Associations is there on a Bridge preferences dialog if it does not offer a chance to make settings
concerning Bridge.  I already have several ways to get to the windows explorer settings.

    Curt Y wrote:
If you open a raw image in Bridge or Photoshop (open as) it will open in adobe camera raw.  THe file associations in Bridge can be changed to open image in another program but you have to browse to and click on the program.exe to open that program.  You can set that as the default program or just added to "open with".
As mentioned, I did do the browse select thing a couple of different ways, however
I didn't see any option concerning that last bit.   Curt Y > or just added to "open with".
Most users either use one program or another I believe.  Since ACR and the camera makers program are not the same there may be differences in how the programs write and read metadata.  If you use Sony program do some tests to see if Bridge can read it and vice versa.
That is also true for me... however occasionally I want this or that functionality of the sony tool.  It has a few different adjustments related to options on sony cameras and also has a straight forward 'sharpen' adjustment.  Whereas I think
sharpening may be hidden under `clarity' (which also appears to do a few other things besides sharpen) in ACR.
Thanks for the heads up about meta data... as it happens I rarely am concerned with meta data and so had not noticed
    any of that.
Oh, and thanks for the input about 'com surrogate...'.
PS - I just noticed after a close and reopen of bridge, that after having set the sony tool as default in prefs, I now see ACR is an item on right click menu... not under "Open with" but a stand alone item "open with camera raw" all by itself.   -- Cool.
And I have a hunch if I change the default back to PS in prefs, I will see the sony tool as stand alone... that would be the
best result.. since I don't use the sony tool all that often.

  • Adding and deleting applications in Bridge "Open With" menu

How do you add or remove applications from the context sensitive open with menu in Bridge CS4?  Just to make sure everyone knows exactly which menu I am talking about, here is an example, right click a .bmp thumbnail image in bridge cs4, go to the "Open With" menu and select which application you want the image opened up in. I would like to add Photoshop cs4 to this menu and am unable to determine exactly how this is accomplished. Any and all help greatly associated.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      Thanks in advance                                                                                                                                                                                                    Rick

Have you visited the preferences/file type associations and set the default for bmp to CS4?
If that does not fix it you will have to go into the OS and set that up as an option.

  • How to remove application from Open With?

    Hi,
I added by accident a wrong application to a file type in Finder. Now I would like to remove this entry from the files Open With list. How could this be done?
    Thanks and best regards
    Ralph

Is it just that specific document you want to open with another application or is it all documents of the same format?
#1 Hold down Ctrl key and choose Open with. Choose the application you want to open the document with. IF you want to always open this one document with another app then the pre-chosen one hold down both the CTRl and the Option key and choose application.
#2 When you want a certain format of documents to open with another application, let us say all .rtf should open with Pages instead of Textedit, select one rtf document and use Command (apple) key and I to get the information window for this document. Somewhere in the middle you can choose with which app. to open this document with and right beneath there is another button that gives you the opportunity to open all document of the same format with the same application.
Pardon my Swenglish, but I hope you are helped by this!

  • Get rid of annoying Recommended Applications list when doing Open With

Whenever you try to specify a file to open with another application, by way of ctrl clicking it, it pops up the file dialog, but most of the files are greyed out until you change the drop down at the top from "recommended applications" to "all applications." This is INCREDIBLY annoying, and I either need to know how to add applications to the recommended list, or to make it default to All applications.
An example of this problem, is when opening a video file. It's a .avi so it opens with QuickTime via flip4mac by default, which is fine. Now I really want to open it with EyeTV, which definitely supports .avi's, and I prefer watching them with EyeTV. But when I right click it to open with eyetv this one time, in the open with menu it lists every other freaking video playing app I have besides EyeTV. VLC, mplayer, Audacity, real player, even my HP printer software for some reason. But to get to EyeTV I have to go through like 5 extra steps.
    Thanks.

Each application tells LaunchServices the file types that it can use, which is used to enable the various applications in the "Recommended Applications" or "Open With" lists. If an application can't handle a particular file type, or if the application isn't set up correctly, then it won't show up in these lists because the system doesn't know that the application can handle it. File Types can be added to an application's Info.plist file (inside the application package), in the CFBundleDocumentTypes dictionary by using the Property List Editor application (or equivalent). You can make an application unusable by messing with this file, so you do need to know a little about what you are doing (and always make a backup copy). There are several articles on Apple's developer site, such as Property Key List Reference, and Document Types.

  • "Open With" CM command opens applications from backup volumes!

I have a couple of backup drives attached to my computer. I use one for Time Machine backups and the other for scheduled Carbon Copy Cloner backups--the old belt and braces approach. Unfortunately, whenever I right click on a file in the Finder and select an application from the "Open With >" submenu, the file always opens in the copy of the application that's on the CCC backup volume--even if the application is already running from the boot volume!
I can understand why it might be desirable to search for applications on attached volumes--some people might not have enough room for all their apps on the boot volume--but I can't fathom why the Finder would look there first! The sensible thing would be to first check and see if the application is already running, and if it's not, look for it on the boot volume, then any attached volumes, then maybe a shared network drive. It just doesn't make any sense to launch another instance of a process that is already running!
Apart from disconnecting my backup drive--which kind of defeats the whole purpose of having a scheduled backup task--is there any way to prevent this? I'd prefer to just not ever open applications from attached volumes. Failing that, I'd just like it to make more reasonable decisions, but I haven't found the "don't be stupid" Finder preference yet. Has anybody else run into this and found a fix or workaround?
Message was edited by: David Livesay

Thank you! I never would have suspected that Spotlight had anything to do with this.
If anyone else runs into this, there is one additional thing you might need to do.
Excluding the other volumes from Spotlight will prevent them from being added to the list of possible apps to open, but once they have been used they are also bookmarked in the "Recent Items" preferences. The easiest way to delete them from there is to open System Preferences > Appearance and set Number of recent items > Applications to None. Once you close the pref pane they will be deleted, then you can set it back to whatever it was and it will get repopulated over time.

  • "Open With" Keeps opening up applications from backup drive

This has been going on for months and its driving me crazy.
If I right click on a jpeg, click open with photoshop, it opens up the photoshop app on my backup drive and gives a warning message saying the application moved and gives the option to update it even tho i already have photoshop open. It opens up 2 of them.
I dragged the whole applications folder on my backup drive to the spotlight privacy and even tried dragging photoshop itself, but it still opens with the wrong one.
I also rebuilt the framework with the terminal command with no luck.
I tried adding a period to the beginning of the photoshop app name so it would become invisible but it still opens it.
It's getting really annoying and I am out of ideas to fix it.
    Can someone please help me!!!
    Thanks!

unplug the external and rebuild your launch services database.
    run the following terminal command
/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain user
then it won't show the apps on the external even when you plug it in provided you don't open them by hand or don't open the folder containing them in finder.
