Added new account now beachball on login

Hi
Last night I added a new user account to my Macbook and when I clicked on 'edit' next to the user picture, the mac beachballed. After 30 minutes it was still spinning so I held in the power button for 5 seconds to force a hard shutdown. Upon rebooting, all seemed fine until login had completed, at which point it beachballed again. After a while the fans started to go quite loud, then quietened down again and I think I could hear the faint noises of the hard disk being accessed. I tried again this morning and it was still beachballing after an hour.
Unfortunately the other account I created is not an admin account so I can't go in via that to try and fix anything (?)
Oh, one other thing I did was enable 'itunes helper' in my startup applications list. Not sure what it does (sounded useful) - maybe that's part of the issue??
Any ideas would be gratefully received.
Thanks
Rich

Additional info:
I booted up in 'safe boot' mode by pressing SHIFT during bootup. I disabled (unchecked) all startup items in the accounts preferences and created another new admin account with a view to logging in using that and doing a 'repair permissions'.
Logging on with any account, even in safe boot mode, now results in a spinning beachball once the desktop appears. As time goes by, the fan speed increases, and the ball refuses to go away.
I don't have my OSX install disk with me as I am working away from home at the moment.
Any ideas?
Thanks

  • I have an old account with purchased songs in it,however I have a new account now which does not allow me to listen to this purchased music.I have tried changing the password but to no avail. Please help

The problem is I have an old account from an old I-pod which is now broken.Well the I-pod has been binned.I have a new i-pod and have a new user name.I have tried to access the songs i purchased yeateryear on my old device but and this  is a but .....The new account will not allow me to access these older purchased songs. I cannot listen to them or burn them onto a cd.It throws up my old account user name in a window with a password request to access this material.I have changed my password several times however I still cannot access these purchased songs.

iPods (that are not iPod touch) are not directly linked to any "account."  They are associated with your iTunes library.  The account in iTunes is your Apple ID, which is used to purchase and download content from the iTunes Store.  It lets the iTunes Store know who you are when you sign in.
Songs that are currently sold by the iTunes Store do not use DRM (copy protection).  However, songs purchased during the earlier days of the iTunes Store do use DRM.  If you have such songs that were purchased using a previous Apple ID (not your current Apple ID), you need to authorize your computer for that previous Apple ID.
Find one of the songs that does not play due to this problem.  Right-click on it in any iTunes list, and select Get Info.  On the song's Info window Summary tab, look for Apple ID.  That is the Apple ID used to purchase this song.
From the iTunes menu bar, under Store, select Authorize This Computer.  In the dialog window that appears, enter that Apple ID used to make the old song purchases (plus password).  Do not enter your current Apple ID and password.  Click Authorize.
The computer is now authorized for BOTH your old Apple ID and your current Apple ID.

  • Created a new account - now how do I hide documents?

My friends are always grabbing for my computer for quick internet visits, etc. - but I have some legal documents I'd rather them not see. I created a new account thinking this would solve the issue, but while it reset my internet and applications - all my documents are still visible. I set it so they'd be password protected, but while that stopped videos from being able to be opened, microsoft word and text edit documents can still be opened. I want this user account to have no openable or even visible documents, music, internet bookmarks, pictures. I want all files from the administrator account to not only be inaccessible, but also invisible. It doesn't help that some of my documents cannot be opened, but you can still see the file names which are revealing enough. How do I hide all documents and files - make them un-openable - but not mess anything up on my original (now administrator) account?

If they are using another account, no one should be able to access folders in your home directory unless the permissions allow it. If you have created new folders at the root level of your user's home directory (along side Documents, Pictures, etc), other users will be able to see inside those, since new folders have default permissions allowing them to be read by everyone. If that is the case, just go back to those folders and change the permissions so that others can't read them (everyone=no access).
Your user folder, by the way, is readable by others so that they have access to your Public and Sites folders.

  • Cannot download itune music purchases  -  email account before adding new account email now cannot get without paying again-- what to do???

This is bad - I have an Apple automated response that they got my report on 12/6, 12/10 and 12/14, and I haven't heard anything from them since the 6th when I got one reply that told me to do things I tried before reporting the problem. Between the 6th and 10th I replied to their response 4 times and they ignored me, forcing me to report a problem with two more items that wont download but getting no response.
How do they get away with this kind of behavior, especially for someone with FIVE Core 2 Duo macs and thousands of dollars of of iTunes store purchases? I'm getting really ******.

  • I recently changed my Email for my iTunes account, now I cannot login to iCloud, how do I change my iCloud email address?, I recently changed my Email for my iTunes account, now I cannot login to iCloud, how do I change my iCloud email address?

I recently changed my AppleID, now my iCloud email is prompting me to enter my new password, when I enter the password that I use for my new AppleID it is incorrect for iCloud. I need to change the ID for iCloud, but I cannot find where do change it.  I am not very technical so please answer on my level;)

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your iOS device, you need to delete the account from your iOS device first, then add it back using your updated details. (Settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit "Delete Account")
Providing you are simply updating your existing details and not changing to another account, when you delete your account, all the data that is synced with iCloud will also be deleted from the device (but not from iCloud), but will be synced back to your device when you login again.
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your computer, you need to sign out of the account from your computer first, then sign back in using your updated details. (System Preferences > iCloud, click the sign out button)
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iTunes account on your iOS device, you need to sign out from your iOS device first, then sign back in using your updated details. (Settings > iTunes & App store, scroll down and tap your ID)
If you are using iMessages or FaceTime, you will also need to log out and into your ID there too.

    Hi there,
I've just added a new user account and when. I restated my MacBook pro, i cannot log in to either of my accounts. The screen hangs in the log in page. Doesn't even give me the option to enter password.

  • Mail crashing when adding new account

When I first bought the iMac with Snow Leopard in December I added my .me account and my Verizon account. I took off the Verizon account in January as I had it on my laptop. Now I want to add it back into mail and when I am almost finished it crashes. I have tried some of my own fixes, restarting, disc utility but to no avail. I saw some others had same problem, all with Snow Leopard but they were not getting any response so I thought I would start anew.
    Thank you, Janet

I am replying myself. I went back to mail and when I let mail set it up even though it could authenticate my password it worked. Before I would try to set it up manually and it crashed. So maybe this will work for someone else.

  • Added new RAM - now old RAM not recognised

I've seen several posts where people have had problems with new ram not being recognised, but my problem is this: Following advice from http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/MacProMemoryDIMMDIY.pdf and http://homepage.mac.com/tribe3/.Pictures/MemConfig.jpg, I added 2x1GB Crucial ram to my MacPro today. I put the new sticks on the top riser where the factory-fitted 2x512MB sticks were, and put the 512's in corresponding slots on bottom riser. Now System Profiler shows this:
    DIMM Riser A/DIMM 1:
    Size: 1 GB
    Type: DDR2 FB-DIMM
    Speed: 667 MHz
    Status: OK
    DIMM Riser A/DIMM 2:
    Size: 1 GB
    Type: DDR2 FB-DIMM
    Speed: 667 MHz
    Status: OK
    DIMM Riser A/DIMM 3 & DIMM4:
    Size: Empty
    Type: Empty
    Speed: Empty
    Status: Empty
    DIMM Riser B/DIMM 1, DIMM 2, DIMM3 & DIMM4:
    Size: Empty
    Type: Empty
    Speed: Empty
    Status: Empty
Not sure how to proceed with this, and I don't enjoy the "thrill" of opening up the Mac so I'd welcome suggestions at this point. In particular, is it a good idea to zap the PRAM at this point? Is there any way of checking if Riser B is defective?
    Thanks in anticipation
    Jim

OK- I think I'll just go with it as it is for now. I'll have a chance at the weekend to hammer it with Photoshop and see how it copes. I ran Lightroom this afternoon, and it really was much faster than previous to the upgrade. I'll time its performance in PS with a Photomerge of 24-shots @ 10.1 megapixels each. If it copes with that, and I get the sort of performance boost I'd expect, I'll leave Memtest for now.
BTW - your statements "Memtest is a better choice" and " AHT is good for finding hardware compatibility issues and sometimes finds things (in 30 minutes) that no amount of Memtest would" seem to contradict. Or am I misunderstanding?
    Thanks again for your help
    Jim

  • Help adding new account to iTunes

I bought a new iPod and want to add another account to my iTunes. I would have thought this would be simple - and it probably is for anyone other then me - but I can't seem to figure it out. Can someone please help me...step by step? Thank you!!

Let's clarify, please. When you say "iTunes account" are you referring to the collection of tracks on your computer, or are you referring to an account with the iTunes Store?
If you mean that you want to have a collection of music on your computer separate from that you set up in iTunes for your boyfriend, and you want to keep your boyfriend's iTunes as it is, then what you need to do is set up a new Windows user account. Then you can have your iTunes separate from that of your boyfriend.
