Adding 10 gig to new library

up until now ihave stored and used my iTunes on my PC. I have about 2 GB on an small external drive connected to my iBook.
I am getting a much bigger drive and would be over the moon if someone could tell me the best way to transfer all the tunes in both libraries into a new library on my new hard drive. I have my PC and iBook networked so physically moving the tunes isnt the problem, only getting them all into the one library so i can play, organise and fill my shuffle all from my iBook.
If anyone can make sense of what i am saying................. PLEASE help.
Pinkster

i got it.

  • 80G - Creation of new library caused itunes folder content loss

1 computer, 3 iPods. I helped a friend create a new libray. Added folder to new library. Went through and deleted songs not wanted from new libary. However, all the music was deleted from the original iTunes library AND the hard drive.
Question can the content on the ipods be sync back and update the original library and the hard drive?
If not what should we do????
I recently created a new library on my own computer successfully.
Can someone please help, as friend now has very unhappy kids!!

I'm wondering if there is a way to have the OS create these. Or if that even matters.
I wouldn't worry, as you've seen already, they get created as needed.
probably iMovie or such will make a Movies folder, and so on, but you could simply use the Finder to SHIFTCMDN, (Finder>File>New Folder), to make them if you're worried.

  • I added a new iTunes account. Wanted new library, did it, but now my old library dissappeared and I can't retrieve it on my laptop. How do I find it. Is it possible to have two different accounts with 2 different libraries and go from one to the other?

I added a second account to my iTunes on my laptop. I wanted to give 2nd acct. its own library. I did by holding down shift key and going to start menu, choosing all programs then iTunes, then iTunes again. It asked me: choose library or create another iTunes library. I chose the later. I renamed it and saved in My Music. It automatically started up iTunes and brought me to the new library, but I cant get back to the old library with all my purchases, etc... What do I do to get the old library back? Computer illiterate, so please be kind. Thanks

You are going to need to change the email address you use with your old ID. Once you have got access to your old account you will then log into both accounts at the same time on your Mac and transfer your data to a single account. We can do this later, but need you to get access to your old account first.

  • Can music already on an ipod be added to a new iTunes library ?

Hi Everyone - I recently purchased a laptop but have a dilemma with my iTunes libraries and iPods. My Nano was synched to my iTunes library on desktop PC, then I synched new classic iPod to same library, therefore both iPods had same music on them. I then set up iTunes on laptop and added some new music into the new library but then tried to merge Classic iPod (with old music) with new music in new library, but all it would allow was to synch them. This caused the problem I need help with as when synching, old music is erased and replaced with new music.
Is there any way of adding old music on an iPod to a second (new) iTunes library on a different computer ??
If there is, can you tell me step by step how to, as I'm still a novice with these things !!
    Many thanks,
    SC

This is copied from another thread. I think it is pretty clear. Here is the link to the thread as well. You will need to do this for each device if they all have different content on them.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/11527071#11527071
    1) Without connecting your iPad to your laptop, start iTunes. Click on Edit. Click on Preferences. Click on Devices. Check the box next to "Prevent your iPod etc. from automatically syncing." Click OK.
    2) Now connect your iPad to your laptop and start iTunes.
    3) When iTunes starts, right click on your iPad under Devices in the left column. Select Transfer purchases etc.
    4) After it finishes transferring all your apps to your new laptop, right click on your iPad and select Backup your iPad.
    5) After it finishes backing up your iPad, right click on your iPad and select Restore etc.
    6) After it finishes restoring, left click on your iPad , then click on the Apps tab on top, and check the box next to Sync Apps, then click on Apply below.
If everything on your iPad looks good after the sync, go back and click on Edit / Preferences / Devices and UN-check the box next to Prevent your iPod etc. The only other thing you may want to check is if your contacts, bookmarks, etc. are syncing correctly now. If not, go to the Info tab after connecting and make sure you indicate which features you want to sync with what sources.

  • Problem with adding Sun JSF RI v1.2 as a new library in JDeveloper 10.1.3.1

    Hi,
I have a problem with adding a latest JSF 1.2 RI from Sun (https://javaserverfaces.dev.java.net/files/documents/1866/44998/jsf-1_2_03.zip) to JDeveloper as a new library.
I created a new User library and added into it jsf-impl.jar and jsf-api.jar from JSF 1.2 RI.
Then I try to create two new JSP Tag libraries based from .tld files.
When a .tld file is placed in "TLD File:" field there is no information below about Library Version and Required JSP Version. If I check "Execute Tags in JSP Visual Editor" and click "Customize" button - list of tags in "Customize Tag Library" window is empty.
I have errors when I try to use JSF Tags from this new library in JSP page like :
"Can't create tag instance: f:view (class: null). Make sure, that the tag class or a library contained this class is available in this application"
    (free translation to English)
Is this possible to add JSF RI v1.2 as another library in Jdeveloper 10.1.3.1 ?
    thanks for help

    Hi,
This solution is not exactly for Jdeveloper 10.1.3.x I think.
    - "Create a JSF system library." section, point 2. - there is not possible to add library in folder other than User I see, so I added it in User folder.
    - "Register the JSF JSP tag libraries." section, point 5. - in JD 10.1.3 there is no dialog box, I checked checkbox "Show Tag Library in Palette". A new library was added to User folder but there is no new libraries in component Palette.
Even as I use "Edit tag libraries .." from Component Palette context menu and add manually new tag libraries to selected, there is no libraries in Component Palette after it.
I feel so problem is with different .tld files format, not with adding libraries method.

  • Help! I accidentally added a new library and can't get into my old one!

So we recieved this Passport (a hard drive, like a USB Mass Storage) with a TON of music on it. So I was going through the music, manually clicking-and-dragging each music file I wanted into a folder on the desktop. The folder was underneath iTunes.
As I was dragging a Justin Timberlake song, I accidentally dragged it into the iTunes icon. A window popped up and said something along the lines of: "This something cannot support something and iTunes will need to create a new library. Yes. No." So I pressed yes and continued dragging music files into the folder on my desktop.
Later, as I was transfering the music in the folder to iTunes, I finished and pressed sync. Yet, when I looked on my iPod after the sync, none of the music showed up. So I checked my library and it was a completely new library, with none of my old songs on it--- just the new ones!
So as I frantically fumbled around iTunes for a few hectic hours, all I accomplished was getting all of my old music into the new library, and finding my old library.
During that time, I had pressed iTunes help at one point and it had told me that if there are two libraries in iTunes, you can only view the other libraries songs and videos. So when I go to my old library, the songs (titles, album names, and artists) are faded out (grey-colored instead of black)!
So now I have all my new songs and old songs in the second library and also all the new songs and old songs in a playlist. The only way I can even VIEW my OLD library is by connecting my iPod and viewing the old library while it's faded.
How do I combine them? How do I get rid of the old library and just use the new one? HELP!!!

Try holding down the Shift key in Windows when opening iTunes. In the resulting dialogue you will get the option to create a new library or navigate to an existing one. The default location for your iTunes library is in C:\Documents and Settings\Username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\ (or C:\Username\Music\iTunes\ in Vista). Look in there and see if you have more than one library file (they have the extension .itl) If you have more than one try opening them in turn, you may find your original library is still intact: How to open an alternate iTunes Library file

  • Adding new library

Just bought my wife an Ipod Nano. I already have Itunes on my computer which I use for my existing Ipod. I hoped that by plugging the new Nano into my computer Itunes would automatically create a new library for the new Ipod. It didn't. How do I create a new library, which itunes will recognize as belonging to the new Nano??????

There's a number of different ways to do this. If you want a completely separate library, where you and your wife do not share any music, you can create a new user account from your OS and setup iTunes fresh with that new login name.
If you just want to use the same library as your wife, you can set the different iPods to sync with different playlists. The following article gives a better overview and has links to how to perform these specific steps.

  • Creating a new library

I have a question about creating a new library by holding the shift button and starting iTunes. What exactly does this do?
What I’m hoping will happen is that it will allow me to remap the location of my iTunes music folder without actually creating a new folder of music.
I have a hard drive connected to a router and can access and stream my music wirelessly. I want to sync via a wired connection but my computer recognizes the drive as a Z drive wirelessly and an F drive wired.
If I create a new library by the shift start method can I just set my location for the F drive in the advance setting and use that drive to sync my iPod and then go back to the other library for streaming wirelessly? Without creating a new music file?
I have over 300 gigs of music and basically don’t want a duplicate 300 gig file on my external drive. I just want to be able to setup iTunes so I can select which path I use to get to the same music folder….I think this is done via creating a new library.
Thanks all….I’ve be done a ton of research to sort all this out but this one thing is escaping me.

You can have as many library files as you want and have them point to the same files.
Just make sure the copy when adding to itunes library is turned OFF.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TA26579
It says itunes 3 and 4 but still works in itunes 8.
Also - when using multiple libraries, the itunes preferences never change. So make sure you have the path for the itunes library set correctly right after you open a different library. I wish apple would have an options to let preferences be different for different library files.

  • Creating a new library from a DVD Burn library

I have my entire library of photos on my iMac in iPhoto 6.0.6. I recently spent quite a bit of time cleaning up what had been a rather messy, unorganized, photo library. My organizational method consisted of consolidating old film rolls which were inherited from original imports that were in different folders by moving groups of photos into single "film rolls" for older years and making fewer rolls for the last few years. I then went back through and corrected photo dates for a bunch of images that were scanned in, etc. I downloaded Keyword Manager, which I like a lot, and applied keywords to every photo in my collection. I also deleted a bunch of old photos which were too similar to better shots or simply not worth keeping. Once I finished all of this I had my new library consisting of 1892 pictures, which I hoped to backup and allow to serve as a "gold master copy" of all of my photos to date. In browsing the database in Finder, I noted that there were a lot of images in the "Original" folders that were not in the library. Some of these were images I had deleted in the library. (I know better than to do anything through the finder other than browse. I know that to maintain integrity of the library it is necessary to only perform actions through iPhoto.) I did a database rebuild and asked iPhoto to recover orphaned files which did nothing. I really wanted this database to be in pristine condition since I was using it as my master copy, but could not figure out how to do away with old unwanted images in the "originals" folders. I went ahead and created a DVD library with "Share -> Burn", and voila, the new iPhoto Library that was created on the DVD appeared to be "clean" with only the 1892 pictures in my viewable library existing in the Originals folder. OK, so far so good. I then took the DVD I had burned and attempted to replicate my library on my iBook which had a clean install of iLife '06 on it. When I launched iPhoto with the DVD in place it showed me an empty hard drive library and the burned library from the DVD. At first I attempted to just copy individual Film Rolls from the DVD to the local library. While this worked in bring the images over, the keywords became all jumbled. The resulting photos would have keywords attached which did not belong to them and were different from what was on the DVD. I then deleted the iBook library and tried copying the entire iPhoto Library folder from the DVD to the iBook via the Finder. When I relaunched iPhoto, presto all the photos were in my local library with keywords, film rolls and other metadata intact. However in browsing the library I came across a few photos which would cause iPhoto to crash when I tried to edit them. This was a consistent behavior on specific images. Reading through the forums I came across the color profile bug and through testing verified that this was not the problem. Meanwhile back on the iMac I could edit the photos in question with no problem. I verified that the image had not been corrupted during the DVD burn as well. The files are identical between the iMac and the iBook. I know this is a long drawn out post, but if anybody has read this far, here are my questions ...
    1) What is the best way to go about creating a "clean" database with internal integrity after a doing a lot of edits and metadata changes? Shouldn't the burn to DVD do what I want?
    2) How come when I copied subsets of my library over to a new machine from the DVD, the keywords seemed to get all jumbled? Is it a matter of indexing them? If I added all the keywords to an empty library before copying the images over, would it work? Is there not a way to just copy portions of a DVD library into another library?
    3) Any ideas on the crash while attempting to edit problem? The image will load as a thumbnail, and then briefly flas the full size image, before iPhoto crashes and pops up a dialog asking if I want to restart it.
    Thanks for staying with me!

Problems solved with iPhoto Manager's rebuild function! Thanks to Brian Webster of Fat Cat Software. Great program!

  • New library or new project?

I Have just started using FCP X after using FCP 7 for many years. I went on a course of 3 days and came out more confused than ever. One mystery is this, the tutor said, "YOU MUST NEVER START A NEW PROJECT WITH 'FILE NEW PROJECT' YOU MUST START 'NEW LIBRARY' AND THEN IMPORT YOUR MEDIA AND ONLY  THEN CAN YOU START NEW PROJECT!" All well and good except last night I watched a good tutorial on FCP X hosted by a very good teacher and the first thing he said was, "To get started, go to file and start New Project, create an event and then import your media to this," I nearly fell over backwards in shock, because this seemed incredibly simple.Within 15 minutes of this tutorial I had learned more than 2 days sitting at a desk.
Can anyone advise who is correct, my tutor from Mars or the YouTube tutorial? BTW all my projects start life from SD Cards with HD material on them, in this case some with 50 FPS and some with 30 FPS (action cam) it must all be finally exported in Pro Res LT 25P 1920 x 1080.

FCP X when newly installed will by default give you one Library and one Event in that Library.
You can add a Project to this default setup immediately.
However, you can create new Libraries and an Event will be added, any Library will always have one Event. Try deleting the last one, it won't allow it.
As Russ points out: Libraries are the main container in which Events reside. Events are where Projects go.
Any Library can have new Events added in addition to the default.
Any Event can have multiple Projects.
Regarding the Timeline and Project settings:
The first clip that is added to a blank Timeline dictates the Project settings based on the clip specs. eg a 50P 1920 x 1080 inserted clip creates a PAL HD 50P Project.
You can override this auto select setup by manually creating a Project.
When Exporting you can change to codec to ProRes LT regardless of the origin.

  • How do I take an iTunes library from an older HD and dump them into a new library on a Macbook?

I recently bought a Macbook Pro back in March 2012 to replace a deceased iMac G5. Assuming all my music was dead and gone, I began building my new library on my Macbook ever since. Recently, I was able to remove the hard drive from my older G5 and found out it still worked. Now my problem is that though I'm able to add all my old missing songs into my new Macbook, it's missing "Date Added, Plays, and Playlists". I tried copying over the "iTunes Library.itl" file, since I read that this is where all your info is stored, but it's asking me to replace the already existing iTunes Library.itl with the older one I'm trying to import.
Replacing the newer .itl file with the older will only create a new problem with the info of the songs that were already on my laptop.
    Any one have suggestions?
    Thanks a billion!

  • How do I combine an old itune library thats on an external hardrive and a newer library thats on a newer computer into 1 library and keep them on the external hard drive so I won't use up all my memory on my newer laptop

I copied an old iTunes library off my old Toshiba laptop with windows xp and put it on an external hard drive.  I have a newer Microsoft surface pro laptop with windows 8.1.   I have a small iTunes library on my newer laptop.  I want to combine the 2 libraries into 1, add newer podcasts to the combined library daily, but keep it all on my external hard drive, so I don't use all my memory on my surface pro.  I have an older ipod classic that I have all my old library on.  I love it and don't want to stop using it, but want to be able to add podcasts from my 1 library from time to time.  What I usually do is download podcasts for a few weeks then, download them to my ipod.  Haven't done any of this in about a year.  But want to start getting regular with it again.   PS  I'm not very computer savy  Thanks for any help or advice!

This article explains how to open a different library: iTunes: How to open an alternate iTunes Library file or create a new one. The assumption is that the whole library was copied to the external drive from the old Toshiba laptop, not just the media. If that isn't the case make a new library on the external drive in a folder called \iTunes and move the media inside \iTunes\iTunes Media before adding it to the library.
Once iTunes is using the library on the external drive you can add any content stored on the internal drive to the library by drag & drop or by moving/copying the content into \iTunes\iTunes Media\Automatically Add to iTunes. Make sure the option under Edit > Preferences > Advanced to Copy files to the folder iTunes Media when adding to library is selected. Once complete you can delete the original copies on the internal drive.
Should your library contain duplicates after merging see this recent post on deduping.
If there are ratings, playlists, play counts, or content stored on the iPod classic and not located anywhere else then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.
Ideally you should backup your library to a second drive for security. See Backup your iTunes for Windows library with SyncToy for a suggested strategy.

  • All of a sudden (video) files added to my iTunes library after a certain date aren't playable on other devices.

    hello!
All of a sudden I have a weird issue with playing video-files added to my iTunes library after a specific date.
This is the situation so far:
I encode the video for iTunes with the same settings for the last 3 years. I know these vids play on all my devices. AppleTV & iPad. All of a sudden videos added to my library after the 8th of september aren't playable on my AppleTV and iPad. I can play them directly in iTunes and by accessing them directly via the finder and quicktime.
    The following errors occur:
When I pull the video from iTunes on my AppleTV.. the video simply doesn't play.
When I pull the video from iTunes on my iPad I get a message that the file can't be found.
When I push the video from iTunes to the AppleTV using airplay I get a message that there has occured an error while connecting to the AirPlay-device "Apple TV". The necesary file could not be found. In addition when the AppleTV is switched off it doesn't turn on doing this, suggesting that there is something missing on my mac itself.
All the above errors aren't popping up when I choose a video that has been put in my library before the 9th of september. Then everything works as expected.
    This is what I tried:
Turning off and on home sharing on all devices including the mac.
Logging in wiht a different apple ID though using the same ID as before.
I created a new iTunes library and populated with a video that was added after the 8th of september and one that was added before the 9th of september. Surprisingly the older one played and not the newer one.. while they both used the same encoding settings. The new library was locally on my mac as my original library is on a NAS.
I encode my videos with Quicktime 7 Pro using the following settings:
H.264 (current frame rate, key-frames:automatic, re-order frames, automatic bitsize)
    Medium Quality
    Multi-pass
current resolution (which is always 1280 X 720)
    AAC sound
    44.100 kHz
    128kbps
I'm using the Mountain lion 10.8.2 and iTunes 10.7 Mountain lion got updated a few days after 19th of september and iTunes i think as well. Both versions were released after this issue seemed to pop up.
I also have two video-files encoded on the same day with the same settings that dragged into the iTunes library on the 9th of september. One works.. the other doesn't.
So I wonder if there is somebody out there that can tell me what might have happened here and how I could fix this issue.
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi Seraphiel07.
I have a very similar issue. Hardware involved:
Apple MacMini (Mid 2011) - OSX 10.8.2. iTunes 10.7. Home Sharing enabled.
Apple TV (3rd Generation). Home Sharing (access) enabled.
Apple MacBook Pro (15" Mid-2009). OSX 10.8.2. iTunes 10.7. Home Sharing enabled.
Apple iPad 2 (Wifi only). iOS 6
    Apple iPhone 4S. iOS 6
    All connected through:
Apple Time Capsule 8.0211n (4th Gen)
I have an iTunes library on the MacBook Pro, shared over "Home Sharing" and another (duplicate content, different library name) iTunes library on my MacMini, which is also accessed through the Apple TV.
All software is current (as of Sep 26th).
All movies are iTunes purchases. 80 in total.
All files are purchased (and home shared) under one account.
My last two iTunes purchases both HD movies on 09/17/2012 and 09/05/2012 refuse to appear on any device accessing either of the two Libraries over Home Sharing. It should be noted that every other movie (the other 78) all show up and play correctly. I therefore know it is not an issue with connectivity, otherwise I would see zero movies available.
    I have:
    1. Removed all content from each Library and re-added
    2. Upgraded the OS on the MacMini 10.8.2
    3. Tested viewing the two missing movies on other Apple devices and no luck.
    4. Turn home sharing on and off within iTunes and also on each device.
It would appear to me that the issue is with the files themselves, rather than the devices as different devices and different versions have been tested.
    All comments welcome.

  • Create a new library out of a huge mess?

I was looking at the iTunes library that my wife has on her PC which is made up of a few hundred tracks all of which she has on her machine & all of which were copied from her CD's & thus don't have any DRM problems associated with them.
Her file is a mess what with artists names spelled incorrectly, tracks from one album sometimes being displayed as coming from 2 different albums etc. I know that it would take a long time to correct all of the errors so I'm looking for an easier way.
What would happen if I were to delete her old library & start a new one then Just tell the program to search for MP3 file only in locations that I nominate or else just do a cut from the same locations & then just paste the tracks into automatically add track to library folder. Would this work, or would I just end up in the same place again? Would doing this cause other problems like loosing cover art etc?Create a new library out of a mess
    Any other ideas?

I had the same problem for a few days... really really annoying. I did three things and ONE of them fixed the problem.
    1. I created a new event. added video to the event. right clicked on the video and clicked add to timeline. this allowed me to edit and export, but it did not save my project because there was no project.
    2. I moved final cut studio to the trash (I did not have 7, I had final cut pro 6)
    3. there are THREE places to create a new project. I tried 2 of them a hundred times... but when I tried the third hidden one, it worked.
    a. under file... no good
    b. the big "create new project button.... nope
    c. in the very lower left... there is a picture of a reel of tape... clicked that, and everything worked.
it is actually the "show the project library" button.
Go into the library, right click, and select create new project. NOW A, B, and C all work
