Adding 3rd Linksys SRW224G4 Switch

Hello,
I am looking for some directions on adding a 3rd Linksys SRW224G4 to our company network.
Our currect setup is as follow:
Exchange Server/Domain Server: Nic#1 and Nic#2
File Server: Nic#1 and Nic#2
Linksys VPN/Router RV016
3 DSL lines and T1 are connected to the Linksys VPN/Router
Switch#1
G1 - Connected to Linksys VPN/Router
G2 - Connected to Nic#2 on Exchange Server
G3 - Connected to Nic#2 on File Server
G4 - Connected to G3 on Switch #2
Switch#2
G1 - Not used
G2 - Connected to Nic#1 on Exchange Server
G3 - Connected to G4 on Switch #1
G4 - Connected to Nic#1 on File Server
How do I go about connecting the 3rd switch?
Thanks,
b

Hi there! You have different ways to connect a switch to another switch. As a matter of fact, you can simply use a regular numbered port. Since you're using G1 to G4 and the second switch has available port (G1), then you can use this port to connect to another switch.
Also, SRW224G4, if I'm not mistaken has 2 mini-GBIC ports. The miniGBIC (gigabit interface converter) port is a connection point for a miniGBIC expansion module, so the Switch can be uplinked via fiber to another switch. The MiniGBIC port provides a link to a high-speed network segment or individual workstation at speeds of up to 1000Mbps. Take note of this, on the SRW224G4, MiniGBIC ports are shared with Gigabit Ethernet ports. If a miniGBIC port is used, then the shared Gigabit Ethernet port on the Switch cannot be used. Mini-GBIC 1 is shared to Port G3 and Mini-GBIC 2 is shared to Port G4 (this has to be considered only if you're planning to use a fiber from one switch to another). Thanks!

  • Reboot just the web server for SRW224G4 switch

    Hello all,
I just bought Linksys SRW224G4 switch for office usage.
Upon programming the switch through the web interface using IE7 suddently the web interface froze.
So I just closed IE and try to get back to the web interface but with no luck. Its like the pages no longer there.
After an extensive search in this forum, the only remedy at this time is to hard reboot the switch and the web interface is working again.
My question is: is there a way to just SSH/Telnet/Console into the switch and restart just the web server instead of rebooting the entire switch ?
If there is no way at present, maybe this can be made available for the next firmware release ?
    Thanks,
    Ben
    SRW224G4
    Boot Version: 1.0.2 (Date:  17-Aug-2006, Time:  14:55:46)
    Software Version: 1.2.1b (Date:  31-Aug-2006, Time:  13:47:21)
    Hardware Version: 00.03.00

Hi.  I know that restarting just the web user interface alone is not an option for the switch.  However, its not normal for the web user interface to freeze up.  Maybe you should try using IE6.

  • Linksys SRW224G4 - problem with WebView

    Hello !
I've bought a Linksys SRW224G4 switch and I have a problem with webview management. I can't use this feature because when I try to open web page, I see "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" message. One way to solving this problem is reboot of whole switch, but after some minutes from start to mgmt via web, problem occurs again.
I've read in internet, this problem is known and it's connected to version of IE, it must be 5.5 or 6, not higher. But these information are old (2007, 2008) and I can't believe that this problem is not been solved yet. I'm using IE v.7.0.5730.13
    Can You help me?
    Some information of my switch:
    Boot Version: 1.0.2 (Date: 17-Aug-2006, Time: 14:55:46)
    Software Version: 1.2.2b (Date: 20-Mar-2007, Time: 11:44:49)
    Hardware Version: 00.03.00
And "SRW224G4 v1.1 business series" information on front pannel.
    BR
    J.

You're correct, it requires to use IE version 5 or higher to access
the web interface of the switch. To further isolate the problem, you may try
different computer also. If you're getting the same problem, you may consider
updating the firmware of the switch. Thanks.

  • Problems with SRW224G4 switch and Bridged Network Cards

    Hello,
We have recently installed a SRW224G4 switch and have discovered that when we plug our DELL PowerEdge 2900 server into the switch, the switch loses all network connectivity and all of the LED's on the switch start flashing.
The server works perfectly well plugged into another switch, but as soon as we introduce the SRW224G4 into the network, either with the server plugged into that switch or any other, the problem re-occurs.
The only way we found we could eliminate this issue was if we disabled the Bridged Network connection on the two network cards on the server. If we do that, everything is fine, except the network performance of the server has dropped significantly.
The server is plugged into the 1GB ports on the switch, although we tried it on the 100MB ports and received the same problems. The switch reports that the ports are running at full-duplex.
Has anyone noticed this behavior before, and more importantly been able to rectify it.
Thanks in advance for your assistance,
    Paul

I had this problem as well with any Linksys 2024 or rackmountable switch..  The trick is, you need to use the network cards management software to "team" or bridged the 2 NIC's otherwise the switch detects a loop and the whole thing locks up. So lame...  Windows built in bridge mode stinks dont use it.  When you use the Intel management software or Dell or HP's NIc management software you have the option to actually choose "redundant mode" where you can pick a Nic to be the primary, or you can choose Load Balancing where you can essentially double your throughput by joining the 2 nics.
In Windows 2008 Server, you actually do this by going to the Properties on the NIC in  Device Manger.  the software controls are now built right into the driver.  pretty neat.  2003 you can check Device Manager the same way but not sure if it's the same as 2008, you might need to run the actual NIC management app.
    Hope this helps

  • Difference between Linksys SRW224G4 & Cisco SF300-24

    Hi Guys
I was wondering if there was a difference between the Linksys SRW224G4 & Cisco SF300-24 switches. Going through the support docs I see the SF300 has limited L3 functionality in terms of being able to establish static routes between VLANS. Any further information would be of use.
Also any recommendations for an equivalent switch for access layer/distribution layer use would be most welcome
    Thanks
    GR

SF300-24 is a brand new product with vast improvements over SRW224G4. Here's a few of the major ones:
    1)    1) Overall Value:
    -          > 80 New software features:
o   Layer 3 Routing for improved network performance where multiple VLANs are used
o   IPv6 support to protect investments as you evolve your network to the Next Generation Internet
o   Advanced VLAN Services enabling new application support (Voice VLAN, Guest VLAN, MAC-based VLAN, Protocol-based VLAN, Dynamic VLAN assignment)
o   Advanced Security – Denial of Service Attack prevention, Protected ports, Private VLAN Edge
o   Unique things to Cisco - like CDP, Auto Smartports, CCA, FindIT - deliver simplified management and autodiscovery
o   Others including Energy Efficiency, IGMP Querier, LLDP-MED, Time-based 802.1x, etc
    -          Numerous hardware enhancements
o   Energy-efficient technology, helping save power and reduce costs
o   Fanless designs on many models for silent operation
o   Advanced and latest silicon with larger memory and flash footprints deliver confidence in this state of the art solution
    -          More ports per Gigabit switch. In the case of low density (10 port), equates to 25% more ports. With 24-port switches, 16% more ports
    -          Very competitively priced – in most cases below comparative competitive products while delivering more capabilities
    2)     2) Unique Cisco Value deliver simplified management and autodiscovery – CDP, Smartports, CCA, FindIT
    3)   3) Lifetime Warranty with Next Business Day Advanced Replacement (where available) and lifetime warranty on power supplies and fans
    4)     4) Localization into seven languages - English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Simplified Chinese, and Japanese

  • Linksys EZXS55W switch much slower than rest of network

I have a Linksys G router in the house and a mix of Macs and PCs gets 20mbps download speeds from our cable modem. An ethernet cable running off this to my office 40 ft away gets the same. But when I plug this into my Linksys EZXS55W switch, I can only get 5.5 mbps out of it. For whatever reason, the switch is radically reducing my Internet speed. Is it just not fast enough? Is there some setting I need to change? Any help appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks for that. If true, can you or anyone else suggest a specific product? I already have a Linksys WRT54G in the house and I am leery about adding a second router. Also the office already has an Airport Express for wifi, which acts as a print server too. I could use the Airport elsewhere if there is a Linksys product that would fill these various roles. Many thanks.

  • SRW224g4 Switch

I just bought SRW224g4 switch but i dont know how configure it. i tried with ip address provided by vendor but could not access to it. i tried hyper terminal only see blank screen.
Question 1: in which port i have to connect to ping the ip address
i dont want to do anything special just need to connect with router and expand more connection for the pc,
    please advise
    thanks

Connect a computer to any of the 24 ports on the switch, make sure that the link light is ON where you have connected the computer. Assign a static IP address on your computer that is on the same LAN segment as the switch (Ex. 192.168.1.10), Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0. Follow the steps on this link to access the switch using hyperterminal: http://linksys.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/linksys.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=16619&p_created=1212...
Please make sure that you click on restore to default button after step 4.

  • Linksys SRW224G4 Fail After Firmware upgrade

    Hello Everyone,
I am a newbie in this forum, so please excuse me If I may not make all things right.
I have a serious problem with my Linksys SRW224G4 managed switch.
After the one and only time that I have tried to update its Firmware, a couple of weeks ago,
although that the firmware upgrade ended with a success, When I tried to reboot the switch
the device went broken. Now it does not recieve an IP from the DHCP, hence I cannot see it in a list
    with the IP scanner.
I have read and followed the manual, in order to be able to connect to the switch with Hyper Terminal
via an RS232 serial port cable and managed to reach up to the following screenshot.

It's not unrecoverable. It just looks like the existing image didn't take and the boot process wants you to load a new one over the serial link. You're using HyperTerminal, so you already have what's necessary to load the image.
As soon as the switch indicates that it's downloading code using XMODEM, select the file transfer option in the HyperTerminal menu and upload the "SRW2xxG4_FW_1.2.3.0.ros" file using XMODEM. It will take awhile, but should recover the switch.
Also, make absolutely sure that you're using an SRW224G4 revision 1.1. If you upload the firmware from the 1.0 firmware, this sort of thing will happen.
If you happen to have a revision 1.0 switch, you can still recover it via XMODEM, but use the "fesm-12216.ros" firmware instead.

  • Does SRW224G4 switch supports IEC61850 Protocol?

Does SRW224G4 switch supports IEC61850 Protocol?

    Hi,
Please correct me if I am wrong, but that protocol you speak of, is more for power  control type networks.
For my own education, I was trying to check any reference to the protocol and came up virtually blank, all i could see was, like most protocols or proprietary protocols  these days, they can  run encapsulated inside a standard Ethernet frame?  Looks like the seimens folks help create this protocol  and some other manufacturers have jumped on that band wagon.
Maybe the question almost could be, does IEC6150 protocol hosts interface or run over  standard Ethernet switches.  If that answer is yes, then the SRW224G4 can support that protocol over Ethernet.  But i'm guessing seimens may have tied switch management into the protocol.
Would you be so kind and  have a word to the supplier of IEC6150 equipement and pose the question to him/her, if their equipement can run over stock standard ethernet switchs that support, jumbo frame technology,  fiber SFP's  and VLAN technology ?  I suspect you may be locked into a limited number of suppliers.
    regards Dave

  • Linksys SLM2005 Switch and Apple Computers HELP!!

I have a MBP 17 inch, MB 13 Inch and and ATV. I have a Linksys SLM2005 Switch. When ever I plug in an apple computer into the switch, it keeps telling me that a cable is disconnected and the port light on the switch will not light up. I can take the same cable to a PC or any other device that is not an apple product, and it will work just fine, lighting up a light and allowing access into the switch.
Can anyone tell me what is going on here?? Why will my Macs not work, I have tried to manually set the ip address as well, to no avail. just keeps acting as though there is nothing connected. I have tried all resets as well. Any help here would be great.
    Thanks

What are you using the switch for?

  • Linksys SRW248G4 switch is killing my router

hello all. i hope someone can help me with this.
i run a business network. it is very simple.
we have a comcast business class router plugged into a linksys SRW248G4 switch.
everything runs fine for a while but at times during the day i am locked out of our comcast router.
we have had comcast come out and look at it many times. they have replaced the router 3 times.
comcast tells me that it must be the switch.
the problem is that when i log into the router. 192.168.1.1 i get an error message
Document Error: Data followsAccess Error: Data followsCan't get memory
if i go and unplugg the router and plug it back in, than i can log into it.
so, is it possible that the linksys switch has something to do with this? i have not changed any settings. the switch is just plugged in right out of the box.
is there something i can change or try?

I don't see any reason for the router to affect your switch. If you could just give the details of the router (model, manufacturer and firmware version) it would be better for us to check on the possibilities.
Another thing is that, I don't remember any switch that will cause problem with the router if you were just using the switch as a passthrough to the router.
