Adding a 3D file type in Spotlight

Hi All.
Is there a way to add a file type to a Spotlight search . I am using 3D software and would like to add various 3D file types that I don't currently see.
Thanks.

Hi boss. Thanks very much.
Sort of new to mac here so to some extent I have to think these through with only a limited amount of experience.
I guess what I meant to ask was whether there was a way to click on the + symbol and /add/ a restriction to a search that was simply .3DX or whatever. This way I could search for a name and narrow it down to just the 3DX files.
I have been sorting by 3DX after making the search but for some reason it would be nice to be able to do what I can do with a 3DX extension what I can do with the pdf extension.
I guess I'm wondering if I can /add/ this to the list of additional restrictions.
I know I have a lot to learn in this app so I'm happy to stand corrected etc.
Thanks.

  • How can I open a cfm file in Dreamweaver CC using a Mac? Added to the Extensions.txt. Getting error adding to preferences-- file types.

I am trying to open Cold Fusion files using Dreamweaver CC. We've never had a problem with the versions before the Cloud. My co-worker can open using a PC, but I'm using a Mac. I can connect to the server and see the files, but when I open, it opens the file in text editor. I have tried adding the extensions to the Extensions.txt file (they weren't there previously), editing the MMDocumentTypes.xml file (the file type WAS in that file), adding to the Preferences-->File Types/Editors (I can add the extension, but when I try to choose Dreamweaver CC as the editor, I get an error "You cannot use Adobe Dreamweaver CC as an external editor. Please choose a different application."). When I right-click the file, I do not see an "Open With" option, only "Open".  Does anyone know of another trick that could make Dreamweaver CC more than an HTML editor for Mac?  I cannot us CF Builder - no approval for loading the extra files server-side to use that IDE.

    Have you tried these suggestions...

  • File type in Spotlight and Finder search

I have several lectures that are all Keynote presentations (both 08 and 09) and wanted to make a smart folder to have them all in one place. However, doing that, I realized that my Keynote files are not listed as "Presentations" but rather as "Documents", along with my Pages documents and many other files, including images and music files. Actually, almost every file type is listed in the Documents category. Is there a way to manage these File Types? Searching by extensions does not seem to do the trick.
    Very confused.

Thanks, that's much better. However I only find 21 files with this setting, but I know that there are at least 50 in my Home directory. Any idea why? Is there like a time limit as it seems that its mostly older files that are ignored.

  • JDev 10.1.3 EA: Bug in "File Types" preferences

    Hi,
I've found a bug when using 10.1.3 EA, as follows:
    1. Yesterday, under Tools -> Preferences -> File Types I added a new File Type for files with extension ".vm" (Velocity), and I'd associated it with an HTML Source "File Type."
    2. I shut down JDev before going home.
    3. Today, I fire up JDev EA and I decide that I now want .vm files to be associated with a file type of "XML Document." But I can't, because the "File Type" drop down is grayed out, as well as the "Remove" button. I can't even remove the .vm extension to redo it!
So, now I have to either hunt around in the JDev subfolders for the file(s) where this stuff is stored as a work-around, or completely reinstall JDev. Right? User-defined File Type extensions should remain editable, unless I'm missing something here...
    Thanks,
    Chris

    Hi Chris,
We've got a bug tracking this, but in the meantime the extension is stored in \jdev\system\oracle.idex.10.1.3.34.12\preferences.xml.
Shutdown JDev and do the following, search for the extension type in preferences.xml, there will be two occurences, delete the Item element encompasing the type and save the file. Start JDev and the file type will be removed.
I had problems getting JDev to recognize newly added types, let us know if you have any further issues.

  • JDev 10.1.3 / addes File Types don't work

I added 2 new File Types in JDeveloper 10.1.3 (Preview) by selecting Tools - Preferences - File Types - Add:
    Extension File Type
    .hta HTML Source
    .ico GIF Image
When opening a .hta I see the code without syntax highlighting. The .ico image is displayed as hex code.
Is anyone familiar with this problem? How can I solve it?

Please zip me up a minimal 10.1.2.1 testcase that works correctly in 10.1.2.1 and fails when opening and running in 10.1.3 and I'll file a bug and have someone look into what's the cause.

  • Adding images to rows in a table depending on file type

    Hello,
Within Visual Composer we have a table which lists documents and contains information about the document type
    i.e. description = 'This is a Word Document', file type = 'application/msword'
then I have uploaded the images (icons) for the different file types, created a 'Document Type' column (of type image) in the table and assigned the correct boolean statements to determine which icons are shown
    e.g. BOOL(IF(@MIMETYPE == 'application/msword', true, false))
This is the exact steps explained in the how to: How To… Integrate BI Document Store and SAP Analytics Applications
But just does not work? It will not display the icons even though the file type (MIMETYPE) is displayed and is correct.
    Any help much appreciated!

Seem to have fixed the problem.
By adding a filter before the table view it seems to allow a slight delay which allows the file types to load and the IF statements run correctly and display the correct images for the various file types.
Still seems that there is a slight Visual Composer Issue there? (but now with a work-around)

  • When adding ringtones (created by ringtone app) they show in music tab nor tones. the file type in 'get info' is 'ringtone'. Why is this?

When adding ringtones (created by ringtone app) they show in music tab nor tones. the file type in 'get info' is 'ringtone'. Why dont they display in the 'tones' tab in itunes?  How can I get them to display under 'tones' not 'music'.

Well, I tried rebuilding the Launch services with the command listed but still no luck. After having no luck with that and deleting caches, etc....I also, went to my home (user) directory and in Preferences, I deleted the com.apple.launchservices.plist file. I restarted and checked and still the same result.
Also, I want to emphasize again that the file type I am discussing DOES actually launch with the correct application. (Cubase files in my example).
But it is just annoying that ALL of my Cubase files display the Pro Tools application icon, and in Get Info they are listed to open with Pro Tools. But they actually do launch Cubase if double clicked.
And one other VITAL note....if I open Get Info for one of these files, and change the Open With from Pro Tools to Cubase....then that choice DOES "stick" and retain. (if I "don't" also click Change All)
It's only when I click "Change All" that it DOESN'T stick and the list selection jumps back to Pro Tools. I hope that may offer some clarity.
Thanks for the tips but I am still back at square one.

  • Spotlight/Finder Doesn't Search In ASP and other file types?

.asp and .c file types are nothing more than .txt files with different extentions..
Am I correct in thinking that Spotlight doesn't search inside these files? I have a folder full of asp files and spotlight doesn't seem to find anything when I type text that I know is inside one (as a test)
It does appear to search INSIDE .html files in the same folder.. Can you add different file extentions that spotlight will search into?
If not, then "Spotlight" is much ado about nothing as google desktop search, X1 and the msn desktop search (Windows) released years ago search inside ALL files..

Spotlight makes a content index for files using mdimporter, and that process depends on mdimporter modules for the specific file type. Thus in /Library/Spotlight you will see a collection, such as Microsoft Office.mdimporter, of "extras" for special file types. There are also the built-in ones in /System/Library/Spotlight. If you installed Xcode/Developer Tools, there should be a SourceCode.mdimporter, which I imagine would index the asp and c files. If not, some people have modified it to also index php files, see this discussion:
    http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20050514182520714&query=spotlight%2 Bphp%2Bfiles
at MacOSXHints. I think you could do something similar (at your own risk of course) for other pure text based files. Be sure to expand the the replies and read them.

  • Adding New File Type/Editor (CS6)

There are a number of posts around editing Extensions.txt and MMDocumentTypes.xml but those posts don't seem to be solving my issue.
I have 40+ Dreamweaver users and I'd like to be able to send them one or two configuration files that add new extensions ALONG WITH primary and secondary associations for editing.
For example, I need to add the extension for PowerPoint (.pptx) and associate PowerPoint as the editor. I want to do this for all Microsoft Office file extensions - associate the extension with the default editor.
As a test, I've changed both Extensions.txt and MMDocumentTypes.xml in my local user folder, but the only result I get is that the .pptx file extension in the list of extensions Dreamweaver can Save As...
That's not what I'm looking for.
When manually adding an extension and a primary (or secondary) editor in the DW preferences File Type / Editor panel, I get the result I want... double-clicking the file from the Files palette opens the file in the specified editor AND the file extension (.pptx) does NOT show up in list of extensions in the Save As... dialog.
I have about 10 different extensions/app associations I'd like to add. Is there someplace else I should be looking?

  • Process Multiple Files Adding File Type as Part of Name

I'm using the "process multiple files" command to converts folders of tiff files to jpeg.
I routinely hide extension names of my files.
All my files are being converted with the ".tiff" extension added as part of the name, and I can find no way to prevent the process from adding this suffix.
So, for example, a tiff file I see as "Name" gets converted to jpeg as "Name.tiff"
So, if I then display the extension/file type on the new file, what I see is "Name.tiff.jpg"
Is there any way to prevent the process from adding ".tiff" to the end of each filename? I have a few thousand of these to do, and am not looking forward to manually deleting that suffix off each file.

    Batch Rename:
You can rename original/input files or you can copy/move original files to output directory and rename the files in the output directory. For renaming, you can generate a name pattern for new names and the starting index for numbers.
Please be very carefully when you use rename and first test your options with dummy files; batch rename can be very powerful = dangerous! Using bad name pattern, combined with options like Move/Rename original/input files and/or Overwrite existing files, you can, under special circumstances, remove all input/original files! Please do not use these options, until you REALLY know what you are doing.
    Hint:
If you want e.g. 3 digits in the new rename name, you must also write 3x "#" in the pattern!
    Example:
Pattern image_### with start index 1 will produce file names "image_001", "image_002", etc.
Click on Set rename options to open a dialog for further options for the renaming process.
Check those you want to use, then click OK. To exit without making any selections, click Cancel.
    Batch Conversion + Rename:
This option combines the normal Batch Conversion with Batch Rename. You can set the name pattern for the output files
The above is from the help file of Irfanview, a free program, which you can obtain here:
    www.irfanview.com
This will rename in a pattern, but I don't know if this is suitable for your purpose.

  • EA1: Adding file types does not work.

The File Type preferences panel doesn't seem to work.
    1 Go into Preferences
2 Click on File Types in the tree
3 CLick Add, enter an extension and click on OK
You get the stack dump below in the console.
The extension you just entered goes in a 'DeployableTextNode' with a tick in the Open with SQL Developer column.
But the check box in the bottom panel is Unchecked and all the other fields in bottom panel are disabled (Remove button; File Type drop down; Content Type Radio group).
    4 Click on OK
5 Go back into Preferences | File Type.
The first time I did this, the extension I just added was gone.
Going through it again for this post, they are all gone, including the pre-supplied ones.
6 Exit SQL Developer and go back in and they are back.

  • Spotlight: How to search for specific file types?

Hi. I'm looking for bookmarks that may contain a particular word. Is there a way to filter my spotlight (or finder) searches just for a particular file type? I know you can sort results by file type, but it's rather just filter in the first place...

Command F should do it. Once the search window appears, you should see a drop down box headed kind and next to it one headed any. Select PDF from the any one. Click the plus button, and another field will appear and you can see again more drop down boxes. You just want to set these up so you end up with name and contains, you can then add your text to the remaining field.

  • HT2531 Spotlight won't open finder for certain file types

I had Evernote installed a year or so back and used it for a short while. Then I started using springpad and deleted Evernote from my Mac.
Ever since, old notes have shown in spotlight, but CMD+Click wouldn't reveal them in finder. I've re-installed Evernote to try and help the situtaion, but alas, the old notes are still indexed (not merged from wherever they're hiding as I'd hoped).
I've re-indexed the Mac, (exclude HDD from spotlight under system preferences and then re-indexed) but they've re-indexed again. So they must be actual files somewhere.
Example, I have an old note called 'expenses address'.
Finder won't find 'expenses address' but Spotlight does. CMD+ click opens evernote... but not the note.
The quickpreview from spotlight shows exenses address as p36.ennote (in the quick preview), but again, finder won't find that either (p36.ennote). I've used terminal to show all file types, but still no joy with either search.
I've dug around in the User>LIbrary>Application support, found the evernote folder, but it's not in there either.
I've also had a poke around HDD>Library>Application support, but evernote doesn't seem to save data there either.
I share my iTunes folder with another user on my Mac and my Apps are backed up from my Iphone and iPad, but the evernote app isn't one of them.
I'm at a loss with regards to where these msytery files could be.
    Any advice?

Not sure if this helps, but this is how a 're-indexed' file shows up in Spotlight, but finder won't locate it and CMD+click won't either.

Please try to define a reproducible test case. Is this happening in all content area? Is it happening with all files, or only particular ones? What platform are you running on? What version of the database are you using?
Have you checked your repository for invalid objects? If any exist, please try to recompile them.

  • Syntax for adding the file type

    Hi,
I am trying to add the file type source in the SES server. The SES server is running on a remote machine and I try to add the file directory on the local machine as a source. Could someone give me the syntax please. Also is there a link which helps me with the syntaxes for the different sources in SES.
    Thanks

Is this on Windows? Handling remote file crawls on Windiows can be a bit tricky.
    If so, then:
1/ You should to use a UNC-style path to the file, eg \\servername\share\folder\. It will automatically get converted to a FILE url. (Or you can directly specify the file URL). You can't use a "drive letter shortcut".
2/ You need to make sure that the owner of the Oracle database service (normally called "OracleServiceSES") has access to the shared file system. The service is started by the "Local System" user by default, which does NOT have access to remote file systems. See the NTFS crawler section in the admin guide for more info.
3/ The connection to the share must be automatic (eg via Active Directory) for the user running the Oracle database service. If, when you access a UNC file path on the server it prompts for a username and password, this isn't going to work.
If you want to directly enter the URL, the syntax is (non-obviously)
    file://localhost///servername/share/folder
Note "localhost" is not a placeholder. You need to ALWAYS put "localhost" in there, regardless of the server you are accessing. And note that there are three slashes after it.
