Adding a background to a photo

hey every one this is my first post and I'm kind of new to adobe Photoshop elements.i make custom spearguns and I just hired a web designer to build me a nice web site but he wants me to take pictures of all my speargun using a green background so that the guns look distinguished so his team can extract the image and put it into a different seen which is fine so I painted a lime green back drop and made a stand and painted that the same color so they can do their magic but the problem is that I have pictures of different guns that I've made taken on the top rail of my truck to where their would be foliage in the background and I would like to use those pictures for the web site but I don't want to have to pay his design team to abstract  the guns from the photos to where we can use them and look professional.SO how do I take the gun from that photo and put a lime green back drop behind it. are their any tutorials that would help me? or maybe one of you guy's are experienced in this matter and can give me some insight.here is a picture like what I'm talking about thank for all your help

Cory,
Here is what I did:
Opened picture file
Duplicated background layer, shut off visibility of background layer, worked on background copy layer
Used lasso tool to isolate the speargun from the background
Went to Layer>new>layer via copy
Placed a blank layer between layer created in step #4 and background copy layer, and filled blank layer with green
Duplicated layer created in step #4, and went to Filter>Stylize>Find Edges, and reduced opacity of this layer to 10%
Sharpened slightly with unsharp mask.

  • Help! Unwanted patterns appearing in the background of edited photos!

Hopefully someone can shed some light on this- I'm continuing to have issues when I open a photo to edit in Elements. I will apply a filter or a distortion or even sharpen the image and then there are suddenly gray and white patterns that appear in the background of my photo. They're not pixels- it looks as though the background of the photo is showing through and it saves as a JPEG that way as well (background showing through). I've included a screenshot of a photo I was editing where it occurred.
I've tried contacting support for this- the first time they claimed it was fixed (it wasn't) and the second time they hung up on me so I'm getting desperate to find someone with an answer here. Any help would be much appreciated- thanks!

Update your graphics driver and flush the disk cache. This is an artifact that relates to that - eitehr the buffer reappears when you set it back to the old resolution or an invalid cache is pulled in. It only disappears when you change the resolution because naturally there is no previously stored data...

  • IPhoto09 v 8.1.2 Problem- Double clicking on thumbnail results in glimpse of photo and changes to ! with black background.  No photo, no slideshow.

    iPhoto09 v 8.1.2
Double clicking on thumbnail results in glimpse of photo before changing to  !  with a black background.
    No photo, no slideshow.
(Preferences set to magnify with double click)

That indicates that the iPhoto database has lost the connection to the high resolution photo - if you have not made any changes to the library (like cleaning uyp, deleting using thrid party software or form the all images list) then rebuilding will probably resolve it - Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild your iPhoto database

  • How to change Background colors in photos

    Hi all,
I could use some help with changing background color of attached example.  I want to be able to change background of this photo and have a few examples of it with blue, red and green background color.
    any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Den

With the selection still active apply a Solid Color adjustment layer in a new colour.
Adjust the opacity and blending mode to suit.
Do a Save as...    using a different file name and repeat with different colours.

  • Erase a White Background on a Photo

I need to erase a white background on a photo of a wine bottle so a web host can use the bottle image without the white background but when I save the image with the background removed, it is still there when I open the saved jpeg image.

    JPEGs don't support alpha-transparency.
If your image is a photo, Save for Web as PNG-24 with transparency.
If your image is a drawing, Save for Web as GIF with transparency.

  • Adding Color to Black & White Photo

I have PE 9 and I know how to change a photo from Color to Black and White.  I am having trouble adding color back to the photo...Could someone please help me selectively add color to my now black and white photo.
    Thanks in advance.

    That's the easiest.
    Open your full colour image.
Choose the Smart Brush tool I showed in my previous post.
On the Options bar for the tool,
    hit the dropdown arrow (1).
Hit the effects dropdown box and choose "Black and White" (2).
    Select "Grayscale" (3).
Set your brush to a small size.
Paint over the areas you want to be in Black & White.  The brush automatically selects entire areas as you paint.
If it goes too far, set the brush to "minus"
and paint over the excess area to return it to the original colour.
The automatic selection kind of "learns" what you want, so by going back and forth between "plus" and "minus", you'll ultimately get what you want.

I am not sure, however you may want to post in the Photos forum, please click Photos for Mac to get there.

  • Should I remove the background  of the photo ?

Should I remove the background of the photo with this app?

Yes, you can remove a background from an image with PS Touch. There are at least a couple of ways to do this. The simplest is to use the Eraser Tool; another way is to select the contents of the background and use the clear command.

  • Adding new backgrounds to Photoshop Elements 11

Hi I have recently purchase Photoshop Elements 11 and i am wanting to transfer all my backgrounds and graphics to the program.  I located the Photo Creations folder and pasted my backgrounds in the "Backgrounds' folder but when going back into the program they are not showing.  Could someone please let me know what i am doing wrong, thankyou

I am wanting to do this as well.  I had more graphics and backgrounds in PSE9 than in this v11 - and I really want to add those back to v11.  I am replying so we can get this back up to the top and maybe get an answer.  How do we get the graphics from previous versions back in PSE11 and add additional graphics as well?
Anyone know how to do this??

  • How do I remove the black background when displaying photos in iphoto 8

After upgrading to iphoto 8 my photos now sit on a black background when viewed from album, library or events. I have changed the slider from black to white in Preferences/Appearance but it only changes the display background for when the thumbnails are shown. The moment I click on a photo it displays at full size with an annoying black background. In previous versions it displays with a grey or white background.
Can anyone help with some advice before I reinstall iphot0 6. Thanks

    wordleader:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. For the background in albums and in the Photos window use the Background slider in iPhoto's Appearance preference pane. In the Events window where you see the square events you can't change the background color.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • White background of cropped photo keeps printing in pdf

    Hi'ya
Using the "Extract" filter to crop a photo in Photoshop 7.0 allowed me to extract a person from a photo and it was saved as a .psd file.
In my InDesign 2.0.1 layout, the psd file looks great and as it was an extracted image, I can put things in the foreground or background for a layering effect.
I go to make a pdf and the pdf looks great on screen but when it comes to printing a white but invisible box prints around the psd file and blocks off items behind it.
    HELP!

I don't have your version of InDesign, but I would export your InDesign file to PDFx-1a (Acrobat 4 compatibility) Advanced> transparency flattener (high-res), then print the PDF.
In later versions of InDesign you can go to window> output> flattener preview> transparency flattener presets> (high-res).
