Adding a bridge to a Linksys E2500 router

Hi All, I have a simple configuration. E2500 using 2.x ghz N-only configuration. The router in in my office. I want to extend the same network ssid by adding another router in the kitchen, on the other side of the house. I haven't purchased the other router yet so I am looking for suggestions on a good one and how to do it. Any advise? Thanks in advance

As you mentioned in your post that you would like to use modem/router with E2500 as WiFi. But that is not possible with the Linksys router. If you are planning to setup your Router in a Repeater Mode or in a Bridge Mode then it will not work. The Router can only work in an Access point mode, where it will only Transmit the Wireless Signals to your Computers.
So,if you need any other device which can work as WiFi then you can go for WET610N or WES610N in combination with WAP610N.

Try putting $ (a dollar sign) in front of the password.

  • Wireless Communication problem between HP Photosmart C309g and Linksys E2500 router

    Hello,
I used C309g  connected to DLink Dl-624 router (wireless connection) and everything was working correctly. Now I changed the router to Linksys E2500 (dual band router) and I've got strange problem I cannot fix.
The printer connects to router, obtaint IP address and network report does not indicates any problem. Also HP Print & Scan Doctor does not report any problem.
But when I try to print from my laptop, the pint start and is quickly broken, and I've got the message that printer is diconnected. The printer stops. When I leave it for a coupl of minutes, the printing starts and after few lines stops again with the same message on the laptop.
When I return to DLink router, everything works correctly.
I tried with 4 different laptops, with different operating systems, and i've gor the same issue. But the laptops communicates well, the network does not break..
I enforced router to use IP reserved number for the printer, used the same IP range and number for my network and printer on Linksys and DLink, does not help.  I've turn off firewall on the router - does not help. I've change the channel range for 2.4 GHz network to 20MHz only - does not help.
What would be the problem with it? Is there something related to dual-band? Any idea?

Well, I did not install the printer drivers from cd, I did it from the Hp webpage. Looking for the potential problems I reinstall the drivers and it did not helped. I also turn off the firewall router application and it also did not help.
I suspect I have the printer firmware up to date e.g my version is WHM1FN0931BR.
I've made some test with router settings:  switch from automatic WPS configuration to manual and tried network mode as wireless b only (default was mixed). This makes the communication between router and printer continuous (no breaks), I could normally scan documents directly to network drive, but could not print at all: the printing option on my laptop pops up, and looks like document was sent to nowhere.. printer did not start to print at all. But other network devices starts to experience connection breaks and performance issues. When I returned to mixed mode, the communication between network devices returns to normal operation, but not with the printer - where I experiences original problems.
My network is quite complex - 4 laptops and 2 TV sets communicates (wireless or LAN 100mbit cable ) via cental router with NAS server (with DLNA) and internet (DSL cable modem). Router also works as DHCP server, where any server type devises (e.g my printer) has reserved IP addresses (based on MAC number). No matter if I try to print from wireless or via LAN cable laptop, no matter what OS is on laptop. I have even tried to connect the printer via LAN (forcing DHCP to give the LAN pronter the same IP as was previously for wireless ), and stil the same: communication is broked and the print starts and suddenly stops.., then starts angain after few minutes - and stops (the same problem as wireless). So I do not understand what the hell is going on. Rest of my network works perfect .. except this printer.. Any other idea, what coul be the issue?

  • Linksys E2500 Router

    Hi
I have linksys e2500 adapter . 1 Internet cable is connected & 1 cable to Switch . What happens after 3-4 hours Network gets off . When i disconnect Server cable from Switch network & internet gets working . All machines have been assigned static I.P
    Thanks

I agree with sabretooth. You need to make sure the cords are properly connected. The cable modem should be connected to the internet port of your router and the switch should be connected to any Ethernet port at the back. Also, please be more specific about your network information. It would help if you can post a diagram of your network setup.

  • Bridging AX from Linksys WRT54G Router using Linksys ethernet port

My Linksys Router's wireless died. Since I need a wired connection (more reliable), I bought the AE hoping I could connect the AE to the Linksys and have the AE provide wireless access for my Mac. I set up the AE in Bridge Mode; however, there's no internet access.
The Linksys is providing my internet gateway.
    AE Internet Setup Tab
    Connect using Ethernet
    Config. IPv4 - Using DHCP
Ethernet WAN Port - Automatic (Default)
Connection Sharing - Off (Bridge Mode)
The AE will work connected directly to my Linksys Cablemodem; however, I would lose my ethernet cability if I operated the AE this way.
If any other settings are necessary, I can provide them.

Never mind - I found something on Macoshints forum. All I had to do was change the DHCP setting to Manual on the AX and enter the DNS addresses when the AX prompted me to. Now I can access the internet.

  • I have a cisco-linksys e2500 router. Can someone help me reconfigure my router, please?

It says I cannot reconfigure my router to MAC OS X 10.9.4 but it can do so with a MAC OS X 10.5.8, MAC OS X 10.6.1, and/or a MAC OS X 10.7 or later operating system. How is it even possible that my MAC OS X 10.9.4 is later than MAC OS X 10.7 model but unable to configure the router?
Can anyone help me with my dilemma?

  • No Internet Access after 20 minutes in the router Linksys E2500

    Hi,
I have a new Linksys E2500 router. Whenever I try to connect to the internet, it works only for 20 minutes. This problem started 15 days ago. At the first time, the problem was with the Internet Service Company, " Comcast ". After they had fixed the problem, the internet worked only by a direct  wired connection between the mofem and the laptop. But when I connect the modem to the router, the internet works only for 20 - 30 minutes. Knowing that I tried  the following: 1 - to use wo  different laptops ( windows 7, and windows 8 ); 2 -  to use  differenet DSL cables; 3- to power down the modem , the  router, and the  laptop , then I turned them on in that order, but the problem is still existed.
Have any one faced this complicated problem before ? Please help me .

    @alimil,
I agree with jibjib. Changing the local IP address of the router may help resolve the issue specially if your modem is a gateway.. Aside from that, check the firmware of your router. Upgrade the firmware if it’s not the latest. Click this LINK for the latest firmware. Cloning the LAN mac address of the computer that’s able to go online with your modem can also fix the issue.
    Try to do these steps…
Connect a computer to the modem and make sure it’s able to get online.
Once the computer is online, disconnect the computer from the modem and connect the computer to one of the numbered ports of the router (ex.Port #4).
Clone the LAN’s mac address of the computer. Click this LINK on how to do it.
After cloning the mac address, connect the modem to the internet port of the router.
Check the status page of the router if you have an internet IP address. If you have an internet IP, try to go online with your computer
If the computer is online with wired connection, proceed with wireless configuration.
If not online, restart your computer
    Goodluck….

  • Unable to configure Linksys E2500 to use PPPoE connection

I am using the Ubuntu Linux 12.04 operating system and have been able to use the Linksys E2500 router with Automatic Configuration – DHCP setting and my modem in PPPoE mode to use my DSL connection. But I would like to be able to use my router with the PPPoE connection setting so I can use a firmware like Tomato which has more advanced features like bandwidth logging.
I was able to log into the configuration page of my SpeedTouch ST516 modem and set it to bridge mode according to the instructions here: http://www.speedtouch.ca/bridgemode.php
I then tried to set up the router to use PPPoE according to the instructions here: http://kb.linksys.com/Linksys/ukp.aspx?pid=80&vw=1&articleid=3687
I get the message "Can not get an IP address from PPPoE" again when I try to set up the connection in step 4. Resetting the router does not help. I also tried running 'sudo service networking restart' and the 'sudo dhclient -r; sudo dhclient' in Ubuntu's terminal but still got the same message.
I double checked that I used right login information and vpi from my ISP. I used the same info to configure the modem to PPPoE mode again so I can connect to the internet. I had to reset the modem back to factory defaults using the reset button at the back to access the modem configuration page after I disconnected the ethernet cable from the router and plugged it into the modem.
Is there a possible bug with using PPPoE with this router? Is there anything else I can try besides what is stated in the instructions linked to above?

    jaymay
"If you are getting an error "Can't get an IP from PPPoE Server", that would mean that it's possible that the account information you've typed in is incorrect or the modem is not set properly to bridged mode. You can test this by connecting your computer directly to the modem and create a PPPoE dialer. If it will let you connect successfully then you are using the correct username and password. If not then you might have to verify the correct info from your ISP."
    > Again, "I double checked that I used right login information and vpi from my ISP. I used the same info to configure the modem to PPPoE mode again so I can connect to the internet." And yes I was also able to connect with a PPPoE dialer and computer directly connected to the modem.
"It could be possible that what you just need to do in the router is to change it's LAN IP address to a different range compared to what you are getting from the modem to avoid IP conflict. For more information about setting up the router with DSL connection, you may refer to this link: Setting up a Linksys router for DSL Internet connection."
    > That link is exactly the same link in my sentence: "I then tried to set up the router to use PPPoE according to the instructions here: http://kb.linksys.com/Linksys/ukp.aspx?pid=80&vw=1&articleid=3687"
The router ip address used is set to http://192.68.2.1 which differs from the ip addresses of the modems I tried.

  • Help for my new E2500 router port forwarding

My home web hosting used to work. But because of changing ISP from Verizon to TWC, TWC gave me a modem-router and I bought my own Linksys E2500 router. Both Verizon and TWC services I subscribed are Dynamic IP. I use a third party to redirect the web traffic to my home.
TWC gave me a simple modem-router in a box. Input is coax and outputs are 4 ethernet ports. I use one of the 4 ethernet outputs of the TWC box to connect to the internet ethernet input port of the E2500. All my wire and wireless devices are now feeding off the E2500. All wireless and wired devices work and can browse internet through the E2500.
I have assigned one computer as the web server and set the internal IP addess of this computer as 192.168.1.128. This is the same for the setup with Verizon before.
I loaded the CD came with the E2500 router and can see the LAN 192.168.1.128.
My problem starts from here, I do not know how to set the port in E2500 to make the web traffic to 192.168.1.128
    1. Using the E2500 CD, I click to "APPLICATION AND GAMING", then "SINGLE PORT FORWARDING". under the APPLICATION NAME, I select one of the box to HTTP and type in 128 under "TO IP ADDRESS". I then click ENABLED, then "save settings" . The 192.168.1 is fixed in this window, I can only type 128.
This does not work. I can browse internet but cannot access my website from any machines using domain name.
    Then I tried:
    2. with item 1 above, I continued to do SETUP>>BASIC SETUP>>DHCP RESEVERSATION. I can see the compute/sever name and the 192.168.1.128. I then click the "select" and save the client.
I restarted the computer/server, I unplug and plug the E2500 power. I check the server internal IP address and it is still the same. But I just cannot browse to my website. I can browse other places.
Any idea of what is wrong on my doing? Please help.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Your modem is a router. Any incoming internet requests end at the modem/router. You have to configure port forwarding on the modem/router first before the E2500 will see anything incoming from the internet.
    Alternatives:
    1. Set the modem/router into "bridge" mode which turns it into a simple modem. Then you can connect directly to the internet with your E2500.
    2. Set up the E2500 as simple access point and keep the modem/router as your main and only router. Then all forwarding is done on the modem/router.

  • Help setting up linksys E2500 with OSX 10.9.5 - no connection

I just received a new linksys E2500 router to set up with my RCN service.
My MacBook Pro is running OSX 10.9.5 and I know I cant use the linksys connect software to set it up but I am having no luck setting it up manually.  Neither my laptop or my phone (iPhone 5S) can see the router when it is plugged in. Trying to connect via 192.168.1.1 doesn't work - says there is no internet connection if wired to router, if hardwired to modem it just spins.  (I have tried via Safari, Firefox and Chrome)  When I hardwire modem-> computer my internet is fine. but when I connect router to modem and then hardwire from router to computer via ethernet ports, my laptop says nothing is connected via ethernet.
I have a technician from RCN coming later this week, but I really want to get this working sooner.  Any help would be appreciated!

Where did it say that?  Network Diagnostics?
First contact your ISP.  You need to confirm that the issue is not on their end.
Change your router channel.  Sometimes this is all you will have to do.
Power cycling the router.  Read the router's user manual or contact their tech support for instructions.
    System Preferences/Internet & Network/Network
    Unlock the padlock
    Locations:  Automatic
    Highlight Airport
    Click the Assist Me button
In the popup window click the Diagnostic button.
System Preferences/Network- Unlock padlock.  Highlight Airport.  Network Name-select your name.  Click on the Advanced button.  Airport/Preferred Networks-delete all that is not your network.
Place a check mark next to "Remember networks this computer has joined."  Click the OK button and lock the padlock.  Restart your computer.
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1920 Mac OS: How to release and renew a DHCP lease
    No internet connection (wireless)
Check to see if an extra entry is present in the DNS Tab for your wireless connection (System Preferences/Network/Airport/Advanced/DNS).
Delete all extra entries that you find.
Place a check mark next to "Remember networks this computer has joined."

  • Linksys E2500 Rounter and DHCP Addressing

Recently Bought a new Linksys E2500 Router to replace my D-Link router and move to Wireless N Speeds.  Was having problems with the D-Link and the Client Machines getting a 192.168.203.x DHCP Address (never did figure this out).  No idea where this address was coming from and the Client Machine Wireless Connection to the D-Link was getting spotty at best.  Client Machines include a Sony Laptop with a Aethos(sp?) network card, a Dell M4600 with Intel(R) 82579LM Gigabit Network Card, a MAC Book (not sure about the Network Card) , a couple of Workstations (HP and Home Built) and Samsung and Panasonic Network TV's.  I am once again seeing this 192.168.203.x Network address being "given" to the client machines every once in a while.  Some of them are actually wired and some are wireless, either of which can get this IP Address Subnet.  Why?  Where is this coming from?  I could see this happening to the wireless clients possibly from another wireless network and crossing over, maybe (which is one of the reasons I replaced the Router).  The Wired Clients getting this address I just don't understand how.  The problem went away for about 2 weeks after I replaced the D-Link with the new Linksys Router, but now seems to have resurfaced.  Is this somehow coming from the Time-Warner Motorolla Modem for the Cable Internet?  How do I fix this?  How can I figure out where this is coming from?   I've tried using Wireshark to isolate what is going on, but can't figure out the right parameters to isolate the issue.
    Thanks,
    Loren

  • Missing MAC addresses filtering in Linksys E2500 config

    Hi,
I'm currently setting the MAC address filtering for my Linksys E2500 router.
I have about 20 devices which i'm allowing to access my router, so i keyed in the MAC addresses into the config page and save setting.
But only 16 addresses are registered, the rest refused to register no matter how many times i key in, it just reset back to 00:00:00:00:00:00 after i click on save setting.
    Please help.
    Thank you.

I am having exactly the same problem with the same device (E2500; Firmware Version 1.0.01).
For the first several days (less than a week after I upgraded from excellent by every measure WRT54GL) E2500 worked fine with twenty one MAC addresses in the list.
Yesterday I tried to add a twenty second MAC address, and the list went down to 16 items (the rest being zeroes) .
Now I am limited to 16 addresses in the list.
It looks like a firmware bug to me.

  • Question about VPN connections on a E2500 router

    Hello,
I am working with vpn setups for the first time, so I have some questions I would really appriciate some help with. I would like to be able to connect to a computer on a home network through a linksys E2500 router. I have found alot of documentation on connecting to an external vpn from a computer on the lan side of the router, but nothing on connecting from the outside in. The router does have a static ip address with my internet provider, so I can contact the router from the outside. But makeing the connection to the computer on the other side of the router is where I am missing something or I dont realize that it is not possible. On the lan side I am using DHCP to assign the address to the computer I want to connect to. Perhaps I need to make it have a static address also? I realize that when I configure the connection from the outside that I need to direct the connection to the remote computer in some way, unless vpn connections are fully passed through the router and the connection issue I am haveing is with the "inside" computer.

  • Linksys E2500 - Guest Network help

I recently purchased a Linksys E2500 router and currently have it set up with my main network and a guest network. Everything works as normal, except my devices are not prompted to enter the guest password every time. I logged on the guest account (and entered the password) the first time I set up the router, and then logged back onto my regular network. I then logged off the regular network and went back to the guest network and it operates as if I were still on the regular network, and doesn't prompt for a password and allows me to go to websites as normal. I was under the impression that it wouldn't save the password and would be required EVERY TIME a user logs on, not simply once and then in the future it never asks again. If anyone could help me with this issue I would be really appreciative. Thanks!

Let me know the current firmware version in the Router? If the firmware in the Router is an older version then upgrade it with the latest one which can be downloaded from the Linksys/Cisco website. After successful firmware upgrade you need to reset the Router. It is recommended to reset the router once. Steps to reset the router:
Push the reset button on router for 30 seconds, turn off the router wait for 30 seconds and then power it on. Power light should blink when you perform the reset process.
After reset, reconfigure the router and then check the connectivity status of the Guest Network..
