How do I add or change a cover of a book I have in iBooks (Mac, pad, & phone)?

Edit metadata with Calibre for Mac
Although edit metadata with iBooks is impossible, it doesn't mean this is the end of the story. With another software, Calibre for Mac, we can edit book's metadata then load the book into iBooks for Mac app.
First we import the book into Calibre and delete it from iBooks
Right click on the book title, choose "Edit metadata", then "Edit metadata individually".
In this window we can customize almost all the important metadata, including adding a cover to the book
After you finish the editing, click "OK" to confirm.
But job is not finished yet, in fact the editing is only done in Calibre's library. To display the edited book in iBooks for Mac, we need add the editing into the book file.
No matter if we are adding cover or modifying other metadata like title, author & publisher, genre, etc. , converting the book to EPUB again is necessary, only in this way, we can completely edit the metadata inside the book, not only in Calibre library.
So the last step is to convert the book to EPUB, even this file is already an EPUB file.
Find the converted file in Calibre's library and drag it into iBooks for Mac, now we can see the book displayed in iBooks for Mac with all the gorgeous editing present.
Using the same method we can also add or modify other metadata like title, author & publisher, genre, etc. on Mac OS X Mavericks even the iBooks for Mac won't permit us to do so.
I have tried this and it works!!!

Well, to paraphrase the old line, "What're you gonna believe, that email or your own lying eyes?"
The first thing I'd recommend trying is to power down your iPad (press & hold Sleep/Wake until the red OFF slider appears, then slide it to shut down), and then boot it back up and try again. You're resetting a bunch of state signals by doing that and this simple action (the first of a series recommended by Apple in your Users Guide) will quite often clear up these sorts of problems.

The cloud icon means that they are only in the cloud, they aren't currently stored on your iPad, so there isn't anything to delete. You can turn off the showing of the books that are in the cloud via Settings > iBooks > Show All Purchases 'off'

Family history/genealogy book by Ibooks Author

Hello,
At the moment I got a Family history/genealogy book in hardcopy (2003) it's 11 years old.
In these eleven years a lot of events happend. To get an updated family book I want to use Ibooks Author to create a digital version so you can added information to your book anytime.
I allready got all the current information till 2003 in a spreadsheet
I would like to know if there is a template/format to create digital family history book with Ibooks Author.
Specially for all the links between all the family members so they are clickable.

You can also contact Bookry or ibooks-widgets.com and other similar online outlets who are possible able to create a template to your specifications.
You could aalso take time to learn how to modify existing template to suits your purpose.

iBooks Author as an "Insert Hyperlink" function which covers, website, email, Book marks and Figures.
Portrait mode free templates may not be suitable.. but Landscape templates will only allow a short "tree" unless you use smaller print or sectionalise the families lines.

Authoreware Book into ibooks author

I am in the process of converting my book which was made in authorware to ibooks author. I need some info to be given to the graphic artist for layout, images and 3d animation work.
1. What should be the size and resolution for the layout (for cover page, content page)
2. What should be the format of images and maximum size of the images
3. What should be the format of 3D animation and 2D animation.
4. Is there any other information required other than the above mentioned?

I am using 3D graphics for my book too. I am almost finished and I might as well share some of my discoveries using iBooks Author.
1. So far I have read that you should make your images larger than the ratio of the ipad. Since the iPad 3 has a retina display (2048x1536) render images at this resolution, since iPad 2 will downsize it anyway. The cover image is 600x800. Since no one can actually zoom in on this image, it doesn't have to be HD like the other pages. (If you see a real ibook, it shows the cover for about 2 seconds and then opens the book).
2. I have read that JPG is the best image file to use since you can reduce the file size and keep the resolution while PNG you can't.
3. WIth the 3D widget, I think .OBJ is the file you can use.
4. All you need is iBooks author, assuming you have updated your mac to 10.7.2. You must have MAC OSX lion, ibooks author and download iTunes Producer (an app to send your book to itunes) iBooks 2 reader app and an ipad with iOS 5.1. Assuming you are going to make an interactibe book, you may need iWorks 09 to make Keynote stuff to add it. You will need an audio editor and a ePub compatible text editor to edit the code (XML) to add read aloud features. (Assuming you don't know what the next steps are, you will need an ISBN number first soon after you finished the book, second you need your tax id to enter into itunes account, bank account, and then you can submit book. I heard it takes from 2 weeks to 2 months to find out if it has been accepted or rejected. It can be rejected by simply having the word "iBooks" in your text, as an example).

You will have to learn them yourself or talk to someone who has already finished an ibook and get tips from many sources. No one source will have all the info you need, yet. Well, it is possible to delete it permanently.
At first I should notice the problem is that, when you delete a book from ibook in mac the notification which comes up tells that the book would remain in icloud so you have to delete it from icloud.
To do this, open itunes, click on itunes store link on top right, now your your apple id should be show up on top left side, now click on books link next to app store on top, this full page is apple bookstore, on the right bar under "books quick links" you would see "purchased", click on it.
THESE ARE ALL THE BOOKS YOU HAVE BOUGHT. IF YOU SLIDE OVER EACH OF THEM YOU WOULD SEE A "X" SIGN ON TOP LEFT SIDE OF EACH COVER CLICK ON IT, BY DOING SO YOU WOULD DELETE THE BOOK FOREVER FROM ICLOUD IN YOUR APPLE ACCOUNT.
BY NOW IF YOU DELETE THE BOOK FROM YOUR IBOOKS APP IN YOUR MAC, IT WOULDN'T TELL YOU THAT IT WOULD BE STORED IN ICLOUD.

How to publish Italian books on ibooks?

how can i publish an italian book on ibooks? i am reading on various blogs that

2. there are no aggregators in italy who can help you export the content of the book to ePub files
does anybody know what can be done from here? i know that there is at least one publisher who successfully added italian books and i would like to know how he did it

Can I organize my books on iBooks for Yosemite?

Hi,
I want to know how to organize my books on iBooks for Yosemite editing the details of each book.
I wantt to edit some features like name of the books, genre, collections and other things. In Mountain Lion this was possible but in Mavericks or Yosemite I can't do this anymore.

When you see the book, does it indicate you have already purchased it? If not, then yes, it is a different edition and you would need to repurchase to get that cover (not sure why you would want to do that, but ok).
If it indicates you already own it, you could try deleting it from iBooks and redownloading, I suppose.

Ghost Books on iBooks

I purchased some books from itunes on my pc. When it came to syncing my iphone with itunes it will display a front cover of these books (with the download progress bar on empty), but i can neither redeem the books, nor delete them. If i search for them in iBooks store it has 'downloading' greyed out, but has never made progress.

Try deleting iBooks app from your iPad and then download the app again to remove any previous books that were downloaded or attempted to download. Then just download your books purchased again.

If it's not in your country's store then you won't be able to buy it from Apple. You can try requesting that it be added, but ultimately it's the book publisher that will have to create an ibooks version of it and then grant Apple a license to sell it in your country : http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunes.html

How do I delete an unuseable faded out book in iBooks?

I attempted to purchase a book in iBooks on my iPad Air. it downloaded successfullly to my iPhone 5, but it's hard to read there and I really wanted it in my iPad. The download to the iPad failed, leaving me with a faded cover of the book (In list view the title cover is desplayed and on the right there is a circle with a solid square).
I have been in contact with iTunes technical support and after several emails back and forth, Jonathan from Tech support has arranged for me to get my money back. That's fine. But he was unable to suggest how to get rid of unuseable version on my iPad.

Is there a way to go back to the cover of a book once you've started reading it?

When you open a book in iBooks, the full size cover appears briefly before the book opens to the beginning or the last place you were reading. But, I can't find a way to go back to the cover. Sometimes I'd like to look at the full size cover, but it doesn't seem possible.

Go to the table of contents is one is shown at the top of the page and then use the left arrow key or click on the left side of the page to move back to the cover page. If there is no ToC then just use the left arrow key or click on the left side of the page to move back to the cover page.
