Adding a database instance target.
Hello,
Now That I have OEM grid control install I want to add a database instance to monitor.
So in The OEM console I went to TARGETS -> DATABASES ->ADD.
I enter the database host ip.
(The database is install in a different machine from OEM).
Error message "Host - Unable to find the host name entered."
This means that it can´t find the machine or the agent?
ping to the machime works.
(The database installed is the 10g R2 enterprise edition so the agent is already installed right? )
I can deploy an agent using the console but I think the agent is already there.
Thanks in advance for the help
Gonçalo Ribeiro
I tried to install an agent doing
Install agent->fresh install.
but I have this error: "SSH Server is not up on one or more of the remote nodes"
Both my enviromnent are windows. Do I need an ssh Server? How do I do that in windows?!
Thanks

EM Event: Warning: Database Instance - Agent Down
Hello,
while upgrading plugins for the OMS 12 Bundle Patch and applying the BP on the agents, I get a lot of mails with the above subject - namely, one mail by every database instance and every listener running on the host.
Content of the mail is as follows:
Host=<hostname>
Target type=Database Instance
Target name=<database name>
Categories=Availability
Message=Agent Down
Severity=Warning
Availability status=Agent Down
Rule Name=Database Availability and Critical States,Target Availability Event Rule
Rule Owner=SYSMAN
Blackout on the host leads to the OMS not being able to do the upgrades - obviously a blacked-out agent is not able to do that. What puzzles me that in the Rule mentioned in the mail, incidents should only be created for the target type being down (i.e. for database instance when database is down, and so on) as one would expect.
I would rather not blackout all targets on a host EXCEPT the agent as this gets old with our number of hosts and dbs, does anyone know which rule is responsible for the mails and how they could be suppressed temporarily in an efficient way?I think Jay was referring to selecting availability events by severity. So in the rule create/edit "Select Events" step you can do the following:
1. select (event) Type= Target Availability
2. Leave the radio button in the sub-section at "All events of type Target Availability"
3. select the check box next to "Severity" right below the Type field
4. When a subsequent drop down shows up for severity - select "Fatal"
5. Optionally, check the box next to "Target type" and choose "Database Instance" if your target set includes other targets - this step should not be needed.
6. Everything else should remain the same.
Essentially, the "target down" events come with "Fatal" severity and these "agent down" events come with a "Critical" severity. So this is a way to avoid getting the agent down notifications on databases (or any other targets) while getting the genuine target down notifications. Hope this helps. -
CloudControl 12c: when adding cluster-database single instances are missing
Hello ,
I'e have installed the agent 12c on every single host of our RAC. When adding a database to CloudControl 12c just the RAC-instance gets discovered - but not the single database instances on each host.
Due to this when clicking targets -> databases I just see the cluster-database - but not every single instance of the database.
Compared to another RAC database this is totally different behaviour.
Any help will be appreciated
Rgds
JHHello ,
maybe I should try to explain the issue a little bit clearer...
We have one RAC database called PROD02. When clicking "targets -> databases" I see the following:
PROD02 of type Cluster Database
PROD021 of type Database Instance
PROD022 of type Database Instance
That's the way it shoudl be - that's the way I expected it...
For the newly cofgured RAC database, called PREP02, it looks different when clicking "targets -> databases"
PREP02 of type Cluster Database
The single instances don't show up. Of course I see the single instances when clicking on "PREP02" under the item "Instances".
Now I wonder why these two RAC databases are differently displayed when clicking "targets -> databases". When trying to add the single instances (clicking "Add" under "targets -> databases") and selecting then either "only on the host <hostname>" or "on all hosts in the cluster" no single instances are found or displayed...

Not able to configure database instance on target host in Grid Control
I can see all database instances on a target in GridControl and when I tried to configure database instance, it fails with the following error.
Error
oracle.sysman.emSDK.emd.comm.CommException: java.net.UnknownHostException: <dbinstance name>
Could somebody tell me how to troubleshoot this issue (like logs for more info for this error)
thanksHi
I am also facing the same issue. My Grid is 10.2.0.5 version. With agentca I could able to see the database of this target on grid but their status show pending.
When I try to addthem manually it give me below error.
Error communicating with the agent. Exception message - oracle.sysman.emSDK.emd.comm.CommException: java.io.IOException.

How to create a new database instance from an existing one?
Hi, I basically want to create a snapshot of a production
instance (version 8.1.7) for querying purposes. Would anyone
tell me the steps involved? What I did as follows:
1. Copy all data files to a new location
2. Modify init.ora accordingly. I believe there is no separate
control file for this version.
But when I startup the instance, got this error:
ORA-01103: database name 'TRITON' in controlfile is not 'HERCULE'
What is missing? Do these data files contains links to the
previous instance name?
Thanks for any help.Hi All,
I need some help in recreating new database instance.
Here are the steps I have done so far:
1. Created a database with name 'LASTDB' using DBCA
2. Connected to RMAN.
3. RMAN>SET DBID=******; (of the source database)
4. Connect to target. RMAN>connect target SYS/*****;
5. Executed controlfile restore on RMAN.
RMAN>Run{
Allocate channel D1 Type DISK;
Set controlfile autobackup format for device type DISK to
\\<ip_address>\Backup\Prod\%F;
Restore controlfile from autobackup;
6. RMAN> ALTER DATABASE MOUNT;
Now got an error saying ORA-01103: database name PRODDB' in control file is not LASTDB
I tried using NID to change the database name but it's throwing an error that database is not mounted.
I have browsed a lot and found that I need to recreate a control file of the production database using ALTER DATABASE BACKUP CONTROLFILE TO TRACE and should edit the trace file. But it also says to shutdown the source database which is production database and I cannot try that.
Also I have tried adding a line to init.ora like lock_space_name = LASTDB. Also tried replacing everything from LASTDB to PRODDB but that didn't work either.
I have been trying to find a solution to this. Please bear with me as I'm a beginner and please let me know how I can fix the error.
I am running oracle 10.1.0.2.0 enterprise edition on windows 2000.
Thanks for your patience,

Ent. Manager is not able to connect to the database instance. ORA-12541
Hi
I have installed and configured Oracle 10.2.0.1 on a Microsoft Cluster with Windows 2003 Server.
Database instance and listener are running OK on both cluster nodes.
On one of the nodes (pwmssrv1) I configured Enterprise Manager to monitor and control the database.
At the beginning it worked fine, but after making a reboot on this server the Enterprise Manager cannot see the database instance and listener anymore.
I already recreated/reinstalled EM and the problem persists.
When I try to access the Oracle EM I get the errors (it do not show the login page):

I would try adding epdadm and SAPServiceEPD accounts to Administrators group and give Administrators full access to sapmnt shared area. Also double check SAP_EPD_GlobalAdmin domain admin authority and SAP_LocalAdmin and SAP_EPD_LocalAdmin accounts.
Open
DCASAPHR05\sapmnt\EPD\SYS\profile folder using explorer and created file and see if there is any authorzation issues with domail\sapinst account.
good luck

Not able to connect linux database instance in another machine
Hi,
I have installed oracle 10g database server in Linux, and i created one database instance. and i have added tns entry and listener entry.
I am to connect the database on that machine. but not in different machine. i am able to access/ping linux machine in another machine also.
while creating tns entry for linux database instance in another machine using "netca" i am getting this error.
Connecting...ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
The test did not succeed.
Some of the information you provided may be incorrect.
Click Back to review the information provided for net service name, or Change Login to change username.
I verified listener and tns entry ( i think for this listener configuration is enough) also. and database is up.
If anybody knows why i am not able to connect linux database in another machine. is there any network configurations other than listener configuration.
Thanks in advance.yes i tried to connect with ORACLE_SID, its successful. and using tnsname like you said.
Instead of using netca to create the tnsnames.ora entry on the second server, copy the tnsnames.ora entry from the DB server. Then use tnsping to test connection :-i done above but not able to ping the tns name, i am getting this error.

Problem in accessing second database instance on same host (ORA-12514)
Hi,
I had a database ICMDB installed on my machine. After that i created a second database instance (Service name: BI_APPS) using DBCA on the same machine. Using NETCA i also created a new listener OracleOraDb11g_home1TNSListenerBI_APPS_LISTENER on port 1522 on my machine. Then i configured this listener to listen for connections to service BI_APPS by adding the following to my tnsnames.ora:
BI_APPS_LISTENER =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 192.168.2.109)(PORT = 1522))
Then i changed the port in my tns entry for BI_APPS to 1522 as follows:
BI_APPS =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 192.168.2.109)(PORT = 1522))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVER = DEDICATED)
(SERVICE_NAME = BI_APPS)
I then restarted the following services:
OracleOraDb11g_home1TNSListener
OracleServiceBIAPPS
OracleOraDb11g_home1TNSListenerBI_APPS_LISTENER
After this, when i try to access my first DB ICMDB via toad, the connection is successful. However, when i try to access the service BI_APPS i get the following error:
ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor.
What am i doing wrong? Here is the content of my files:

Hi Ed,
I understand your point, however whenever i have tried to use the same listener to access my second instance, this is the error i have always received:
ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor.
That does not indicate you need a second listener.
And, after deleting the listener.ora file ,if i try the the command lsnrctl start, i get the error:
ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
Hence i restored the files. What do i do?
I've never experienced a 12560 trying to start a listener. I'll need to see if I can create a test system on Windows and try to recreate. Will be a good subject for my blog, that has been too long with no new content.
Since this is windows, I'd first check that the Windows service for the listenr is started.
Whatever, multiple listeners is NOT the solution. -
Database Instance Using Swap Space even When There is Plenty of Free RAM
Hi,
I am facinga strange issue in oracle on solaris 5.10
Platform:solaris 5.10
Database version:11.2.0.1.0
Our database Instance Using Swap Space even When There is Plenty of Free RAM.
We have 80GB of physical RAM, 32GB is set to oracle SGA_MAX_SIZE
memory parameters:
memory_max_target big integer 32G
memory_target big integer 32G
sga_max_size big integer 32G
sga_target big integer 32G
but still oracle is taking memory from swap even though we have enough physical memory.
please find the top output

I refered the metalink document id: [ID 761960.1]
Database Instance Using Swap Space When There is Plenty of Free RAM metalink note [ID 761960.1]
and tried the disabling the sga_max_size and memory_max_target and memory target with all different combination but no use.
We have one more box where same setup was configured in solaris platform but there the above memory parameters are not disabled but it is not using swap space it takes memry only from physical RAM
Can any one throw some lights on this issue. It wopuld be great if I come to know where the exact problem
Thanks in advance
With Regards,
Boobathi PHi,
I didn't say I am not using 11gr2 memory parameters I am using all the automatic memory parameters but the thinks is as per the metalink note I tried by disabling the automatic memory parameters. but that didn't help me in preventing unnecessary swap usage. So I reverted. now it is using automatic memory parameters.
so What is the solution for this?

Boo -
Adding a standalone instance to a farm
We have 2 application servers running 10g.
The first server I have created a farm (new file based repository). I have added that servers instance to the farm.
What I want to do is add the other application server instance to the farm.
When I issue this command either manually or through iasconsole, I get this error:
Command: dcmctl joinFarm -r myrephost.mydomain.com:7100
ADMN-202501
Base Exception:
The exception 202001, has occurred in the cache layer of the persistence manager on the Oracle Application Server Instance "myrephostInstance.myrephost.mydomain.com",
"An exception has occurred while accessing DCM repository. Please refer to the accompanying base exception for more details.
Resolution:
check the details of the base exception.
Base Exception:
The exception 202504, has occurred in the cache layer of the persistence manager
"No network connection to [192.168.2.8:7152, pos=2, uid=0, name=, pri=0]".
Now I'm executing this command from the standalone instance that I want to be added to the farm. The ip is 192.168.2.8. The machines are on the same switch, so there is network connectivity because I can ssh, smb, etc. I guess the real question is, how does it pick port 7152? I know my dcmCache.xml states the following:
<port lower="7120" upper="7179"/>
So I guess it just picks a port in between? I cannot telnet from my repository machine to the machine i want to add to the farm via any of those ports. I dont see anything from "netstat -natp" running except dcm-daemon on port 7100.
I cannot find one single person that has this issue based on forums, yahoo, google, etc. Anyone know where I can look for more guidance?
Thanks so muchI guess a way around this..and a really better approach is to create a database-based repository. Although, my oracle database doesnt have a dcm schema. Does anyone know if i can export a file-based repository to a database-based repository or how would i go about created a database-based repository for the first time ?

Regards,
SalaiIt would appear that your archive location is full. If it is full, then try to get some more free space there by either deleting the old archives or specifying a different location.
I don't see any mention of a flash recovery area in the log message, but you may also want to confirm that you have reached your space allocated to the FRA. -
Homogeneous System Copy - Installation of Database Instance not possible...
I try to create a SAP NetWeaver 7.0 SR3 Portal based on a homogeneous SAP System Copy. Therefore I already installed in a first step (first option within SAPINST for installing a target system of a system copy) the Central Services Instance successfully on a machine. In the next step I'd like to create the Database Instance with SAPINST but I cannot choose the DB instance that I already created based on a restore within the new DB server (MS SQL 2008 Cluster installation). I can only choose the local machine for using a DB instance but there is no MS SQL Server installed!
Do I have to start SAPINST on the DB server itself which is not possible/allowed (due to operating/organization reasons)?
Is there any SAPINST parameter which I have to use for telling SAPINST that the DB is located on a different server?!?
The documentation just says:
The target system is installed using the exports from the source system.
Choose the installation services exactly in the order they appear. For more information, see the MS SQL Server installation guide for your SAP system at http://service.sap.com/installnw70.
On the SAPinst screen SAP SystemDatabase make sure to select Homogeneous System Copy (MS SQL Server-specific: Detach/Attach or Backup).
Thanks for supporting and Regards,
Claudio SchmidtOK, SAP Note 1076022 says:
SAP installation packages on SAP Service Marketplace
On March 27, 2008, SAP released the Netweaver installation package SR3, which supports SQL Server 2008 (R2). Note 1152240 discusses the details and lists some restrictions. Make sure you carefully read Note 1152240 and use a recent enough installation master DVD.
SAP Note 1152240 says:
If you want to perform a system copy of an SAP system that is based on SAP NetWeaver 7.0 SR3 on SQL Server 2008 (R2), you cannot use the Installation Master and Kernel DVD that you received from SAP or downloaded from SAP Service Marketplace (SMP). Instead, you have to do the following:
- Patch your runtime libraries as described in SAP note 684106
- Use a modified Installation Master DVD. For more information, see section "IV Creating a modified Installation Master DVD".
- Use a modified Kernel DVD. For more information about how to create a modified kernel DVD, see SAP note 1480785.
What problem is fixed by using the modified Installation Master DVD? Is it possible to install the DB part on a server apart of the local machine where SAPINST is run (my initial question/problem I want do resolve)?
