Adding a facebook link to an iWeb page (08)

I got a free Twitter icon and somehow got it to operate by marrying the link to it.... for lack of a better term; spent the better part of 30 minutes getting it done.
Tried to remember how I did it, and repeat that with a facebook icon.... haven't been able to get it done.
Can anyone tell me how to "widget" a facebook link to my iweb 08 page?
Thanks!

I see this at the top:
"This question is not answered. "Helpful" answers available: 2 . "Solved" answers available: 1 .
It seems there is a "solved" answer, but gives me no link to go to it. I "searched several different options but could only find one thing even close and that was to embed the facebook page in an iweb page... not what I want.
Is there anyone that can point me in the correct direction to go to the link that gives me the "solved" answer?
Thanks.

  • When I send a link to my iweb page it doesn't open

If I want to send a link of my iweb page to someone, the way I do it is firstly open the page online, copy the link from the browsers address and then from mail I goto "add hyperlink" paste the link in and then send, all looks ok, but when the other person tries to open, the link will not.
I sent to myself to test and found that the link address once sent this way from mail, is different than the original. Where the original address would be %20 it is now %2520. The number 25 is placed in front of 20 numerous times through out the link and so of course the site won't open.
    Would hugely appreciate any feedback,
    thanks

I decided to edit my post and add some more info but I guess I took too long. So here's an edited version:
Idea 1 - the simple method: Forget the "add hyperlink" part. Just paste the address into your email message by hand. It comes out as a hyperlink (though it does not appear so when you are crafting the message) and does not create the problem you are having.
Idea 2 - the prettier method: Use "add hyperlink" but do some editing first. When you paste the hyperlink into the box you must replace each "%20" with a space. The link will be displayed in your email message as you would like it to appear - with spaces instead of %20's - but the underlying link will have the %20's. I can't guarantee it will come out pretty with every email program and every preference setting someone might use but any good program should get it right.

  • Facebook Status on my iWeb page

How can I have my current facebook status (i.e. Ryan is ....) on my iWeb page?

Ryan, you can't. At least that is what I was told when I called Apple several months ago trying to update my iweb. iweb is not based on HTML so the code facebook gives you does not work when trying to paste it into your iweb...until they have options to use the HTML codes it is my understanding from Apple, we cannot have HTML code in iweb which prevents us from many of the social networking status items. Hope that helps.

  • Re: Help to remove link on an iWeb page

I used iWeb to post a web-page and somehow there is a "link" on the whole large text block that downloads a photo every time every time someone clicks on the page. I can't figure out how to find and remove that link when I open the page in iWeb. Any ideas are welcome.  Thanks!

Try selecting the text box itself - rather than the text - and look in the Link inspector window to see if it is selected as a hyperlink. Is so, uncheck the box.

  • Adding a "close" link to my web page in Muse

    Hi,
I'm setting up a password-protect website and it has a timer where it will "time out" after 15 minutes.  To encourage users to close their browser window, which will get rid of the password login upon closing of the browser, I added a CLOSE like you see below:
    The code is:
    <a href="JavaScript:window.close()">Close</a>
But for some reason this code does not work.  You click on it and nothing happens.  Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong? Or is there some other way you can do this in Muse?  Thanks.

I actually found a solution in another forum but lost the link to it and believe it or not, I can no longer find that link :-/
But I remember it saying that if you use the close JS code you must also use the open JS code too.  In other words, if the only way to close a browser with JS is if you also opened that same window with JS.
The tut I found said that you can put a close JS link that's actually an open JS that opens a page.  But you also put code on that newly open page that redirects and closes it.  It sounds like a cool solution but I can't find it any more and looked every where.

  • Adding Flickr to iWeb page

Hi. I'm trying to add a link to my iWeb pages which has my Flickr photos on. How do I do it? I know how to just add an ordinary link, but I want to to add one of those links that I see on other blogs that show little thumbnails of the photos.
    Hope it makes sense!

If you can get the code from Flickr, you can add it to your iWeb page after publishing.
Here are some basic instructions for making html changes after publishing in iWeb:
    1. Type a placeholder in place of where you want the item to go. i.e. CODEGOESHERE or something like that. Publish your site via iWeb
    2. Find your html files.
    Go to iDisk/Web/Sites/iWeb/Sitename/Pagename.html
(If you publish to a folder, look in the folder you selected or try looking in your Sites folder of your home folder. )
There are two ways to handle accessing your iDisk.
    Method 1:
Turn on local copy of your iDisk in System Prefs, with or without automatic syncing.
If you publish your site via iWeb, now the updated pages exist online but the old pages are on your local iDisk. You need to sync (automatically or manually) to get the new pages on your local iDisk (on your computer).
Then you can open the updated files, make your html changes in Text Edit or whatever program, and SYNC AGAIN (automatically or manually) to update the online version of the site to match what you have just changed on your local iDisk
    Method 2:
Mount the iDisk when needed via the "Go" menu in Finder. This is the ONLINE VERSION of your iDisk, not a local copy. When you publish your site via iWeb, the changes INSTANTLY appear on the iDisk on your desktop. If you make html edits or other changes, they appear INSTANTLY online.
    I recommend Method 2 - much easier!!!
    3. Make the html changes.
You can open the html files generated by iWeb in any text or html editor. In TextEdit, to view the code in an HTML file, choose File > Open and select "Ignore rich text commands." Then locate the .html file (as described in step 2) and click Open.
Make your changes (i.e. replace CODEGOESGERE with your code!) and don't forget to save your changes (not Save As, just Save)!!!
    4. Remember, if you make a change to a page like this post-publishing, and later re-publish, you have to make the html changes again! Set up a Find/Replace command in MassReplaceIt and you can do this very quickly. You can save your queries so you can make all of your changes with one click the next time you save.

  • Assistance pls: ~50% links not working on page, iWeb 3.0.4

I built a new page on a longstanding iWeb site last night, uploaded it (to my own domain hosted at Earthlink) and discovered that about 50% of the links on the page are not working, though all the links are formatted identically.
    Here's the page:
    http://www.MarynMcKenna.com/magazines.html
Here's how this page is built:
         - Each visible box is a shape
         - Within each shape is a text box with outline set to None
         - Each link was individually cut-pasted into Inspector (I have double-checked that none of them pasted 2x.)
         - I have checked that, in Inspector > Hyperlink, the settings for each link are:
              - Enable as a Hyperlink
              - Link to an External Page
              - Open link in new window
Also, I have checked (Command-Shift-L/Command-A) that the boxes are in the Body of the page, not in the Header, Footer etc.
When I am in iWeb, all of the links work fine.
When I upload the page and check it at Earthlink, however, the links in the larger boxes (Scientific American, Self, Annals) don't work.
I cannot see any reason why this would be going on. Any thoughts would be welcome.

Use the Inspector/Text/Text pane to adjust the inset margin to assure a uniform margin around the text in the text box.  This screenshot is without any margin:
And this is with a margin added:

  • Adding a "print" link to a document with iweb?

I want to put my resume on my web site and add a "print" button on the page that will only print my resume and not the whole page, but I can't figure out how to do it (if that's even possible on iweb)
Can anyone tell me how to do it?
    Thanks!

I see this at the top:

It seems there is a "solved" answer, but gives me no link to go to it. I "searched several different options but could only find one thing even close and that was to embed the facebook page in an iweb page... not what I want.
Is there anyone that can point me in the correct direction to go to the link that gives me the "solved" answer?

  • Adding Java to a iWeb page

I am looking into getting an iWeb account and such to create a webpage for a business I am starting. I would be creating virtual tours that would export into Java where the viewer would be able to look into a home by clicking and dragging the pictures to move through the home, and then clicking links in the Java to move to another room in the home.
What I want to know is: Is there a way to add Java to an iWeb page? I have seen that movies and photo albums I create can be added, but what about Java?
Any help on this would be great! THANKS!

If you want to do this, then don't get an MMe account. Use an external host/server that does support java and php. If it is a business site too, it will be more worthwhile, as you get a better service - quicker upload and generally more for your money than MMe can offer. MMe was not designed for business use really, but for ease of personal use with one click publishing.

  • Tip: How to link to a non-iWeb page in the main navigation menu.

I've figured out an easy way to add a link to the main navigation menu which links to a URL of your choosing. For example, I have an older .Mac site using the now archaic HomePage. Instead of rebuilding all of my old pages in iWeb, I thought it would be nice to add a link to the old site from the top main navigation of the iWeb pages. Sounds easy, right? Apparently Apple has other ideas as iWeb doesn't allow you to do this.
    Here's a work-a-round:
Step 1.) Open iWeb and add a new page to your iWeb site. Pick any template, it doesn't matter which one.
Step 2.) Change the page name to whatever you want using the page inspector. Whatever you choose as a name here will be reflected in the main navigation menu. For example, I named my page "Photo Archives".
Step 3.) You don't need to edit this new page at all. In fact, we're going to erase all of the content in it later. Now publish your site.
Step 4.) If you're using .Mac, mount your iDisk to your desktop. Then navigate through the folders to: Web -> Sites -> iWeb -> <Your Site Name>. If you're hosting your site somewhere else, navigate to your root directory.
Step 5.) You should now be looking at all of the files which make up your iWeb site. Open the dummy page we created in Step 2 in a text editor. I used BBEdit, but TextEdit (see note below) will work just fine. For example, my dummy page is named "Photo Archives.html".
Note: If you're going to use TextEdit, you need to select the checkbox "Ignore rich-text commands in HTML files" from the Open & Save pane of the Preferences dialog PRIOR to opening the file from your iDisk.
Step 6.) Select all of the text (Command-A) and Delete.
Step 7.) Paste the following text, substituting the URL you want to link to.
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"><html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><head><title></title><meta http-equiv="refresh" content="0;url=http://www.mydomain.com/mypage.html" /></head><body></body></html>
Step 8.) Save the file. You're done! You now have a link in the main navigation which goes to any URL you want.
      Mac OS X (10.4.4)

    Hi,
I'm OK to step seven but in your example can you highlight or make bold the "url address part " I'm to replace with my own?
    Thanks!
Step 6.) Select all of the text (Command-A) and
    Delete.
Step 7.) Paste the following text, substituting the
URL you want to link to.
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><!DOCTYPE html
    PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN"
    td"><html
    xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><head><title></ti
    tle><meta http-equiv="refresh"
    content="0;url=http://www.mydomain.com/mypage.html"
    /></head><body></body></html>
Step 8.) Save the file. You're done! You now have a
link in the main navigation which goes to any URL you
    want.
