Adding a file as an attacment ("icon") to a PAGES document

Hi,
Can someone advise how I can attach a RTF file etc as an attachment to a pages document so that whilst viewing the Pages file, it would appear as an icon?
This is similar to adding an object from a file as an icon in MS Word.
Tushar

The reason for this is that I am currently trying to create a library of eye catching headlines, emails and weblinks in one spot.
The document at present has:
1. Some good "article headlines"
2. Some sample well written articles
3. Some good weblinks
The thing I am struggling with is having emails imbed as icons. I have tried "Choose" but that insert the whole email into the document. Another potential (but not ideal) option would be to put a hyperlink in the file to where the file is stored on my hard drive.
Ideally, this document could then be shared with other people.
Hope this helps.

  • How do I script a listbox to display doc pdf file attachments (originally jpegs) in a one page document being viewed in a Reader or Acrobat?

    I have placed a listbox on a one page pdf doc to select and display any of several pdf attachments (originally jpegs). What javascripting will do this? I have tried openDataObject and getDataObjectContents (feeding them the listbox "export value" which is the name of the attached file. Code runs without exception, but no attachment displays?

    I don't know of any way to do what you want using the 'open' command. It can probably be done with Applescript, which you could call from a shell script. The Preview application doesn't seem to be scriptable. I don't use Acrobat, so I can't tell you anything about that. Looking through the dictionaries of the apps I do have, it seems that Skim (another PDF viewer) has an AS 'page' class. Below are a couple of links that may get you started. Look for more specific guidance in Applescript forums.

  • Help converting pages document with images over to a 300 dpi jpg file

    Hi
    I'm pretty new to using Pages.  I have created a 4 page Pages document with a lot of iphoto images.  It's for a elementary school yearbook.  The publisher ulitmately needs a 300 dpi jpg file.
    How do I convert the pages document into a 300 dpi jpg?
    I tried to convert it first to a pdf then to a 300 dpi jpg but when I sent that file over, they said that when they zoomed in, the images all looked blurry.
    Any ideas on what to do without having to start all over again?  Worst case, I guess I can print out in best quality, scan and save as jpg but there's got to be an easier way.
    I'm not a graphic designer, just trying to fuddle my way through so you'll have to go easy on me with the techno speak.  Any cliff notes for mac beginners?
    Thanks much in advance for any help!

    The conversion isn't perfect between Pages and Word. The same font is handle differently in the two applications and so are many other things too. If you are concerned about how it looks use Pdf versions instead.

  • Why is a 4MB Pages document converting into a 20.7MB epub file?  How can I reduce the size?

    I'm using Pages 4.3 to create epub files.  It converted a 112-page, 4 MB Pages document to a 20.7 MB epub file.  Yet when I converted the Pages document to a mobi file (for Amazon ebooks), it's only 3.6 MB.  Obviously I can't use a 20.7 MB file.  Why is it doing this and what can I do about it?
    Thanks for any information.

    that's the thing that pump size.
    Video files.
    Please take note that FLV is not much better than regular
    video. In fact it's
    larger and lousier quality. So you could import MOV to flash
    and keep it as SWF.
    This would keep the file smaller a bit. Than you can always
    load these files
    in run time, swf and flv. Making main movie small and just
    stream the content when
    needed.

  • Different ways of adding FrameMaker files

    What is the difference between the following two ways of
    adding FrameMaker files to a RoboHelp project:
    1. File > Import > FrameMaker document
    2. Right-click project folder & select Add FrameMaker
    File (with Copy or by Reference)
    ??

    This is an old thread, but the answer is not sufficient, so I'm raising the question again.
    RoboHelp is maintaining some kind of knowledge about the FrameMaker files, because the icon on the folder holding the individual topic files for a FM file will change to red, indicating an update is needed. Update based on what? I can make a text change in the FM file and the icon won't change, but at some point in the process, will get the red icon indicating the files need to be updated. It does not seem to retrieve changes to text, but I had a topic in which I had replaced a large graphic with a linked thumbnail image, and upon taking the bait and "Updating" the files, the thumbnail was replaced with the original image. During the update, the message says "Processing FrameMaker Documents."
    So does anyone have a clearer explanation about the Add FrameMaker File > Add by Copy is doing?And should I ever/never/sometimes update the files?
    I have FM 8.0p277 and RH 7.03.001 (can't upgrade due to client request).
    Thx.

  • .INDD files not showing cs4 icon

    ...after an hour on the phone with tech support..I'm turning to the masses.
    I've right clicked the file/prop/to change the program to open the file type with.
    Indesign CS4 is not on my program list.  When I select browse/program/adobe/indesign cs4 and selet the .exe file and hit open..
    the window disappears and indesign is NOT added to the list or available to select.
    I also have tried control panel/folder options/file types and have tried to manually force it to use CS4 to open INDD files...  however, indesign CS4 is not on this program list either..
    I CAN however open and use indesign 4 and open indd files in the program.. however ctrl/s opens the save as dialogue box instead of just saving it...
    all indd files have a 'windows-esqe' icon.
    HELP
    thanks
    Dsgngirl

    Did you by chance delete an earlier version after installing CS4? This has been know to cause this sort of behavior.
    I think the best advice is to reinistall the program, which should repair the .dll file that handles the icons for the various versions.

  • Inadvertantly added music files to the wrong library

    I created a 2nd library in itunes and then inadvertantly added music files to it instead of to the original library. My original intent was to move files from the 1st library to the 2nd but I forgot we had added music that hadn't been scanned into itunes yet and when I hit "scan music" it started to add all those files to the new library, so now what?
    And how do I move the files I originally intended to move from the 1st library into the 2nd?

    Karen,
    There is not really such a thing as "move" in that context.  Get copies of any files that you wish to add to the 2nd library, and add them.  When you are sure that this has been correctly accomplished, then go into the 1st library and delete whatever you don't want to be there.

    Memory on my macbook air keeps disappearing.  I have 120 gigs and I am down to 150mb without adding any files.

    Thanks...I have tried the various options and the only item of interest is that my only account on this computer says it has 102 gig of memory used up.  However, when I open and look at the individual files, they add up to less than 15 gigs.

  • Adding a file to an already created Archive throws error

    Hello Experts,
    In one of the WLST python scripts, we had a piece of code which was adding a file to an already created archive. Below is the code snippet:
    import zipfile
    try:
    conn='1.properties'
    fileName='/home/pbnagara/temp/Zip1.par'
    myZip = zipfile.ZipFile(fileName, mode='a')
    myZip.write(conn)
    myZip.close()
    except Exception:
    print 'Exception occurred while writing to Zip file: ' + fileName
    --> it makes use of the standard python module [zipfile] to add a file to the archive.
    This code has started failing [for some strange unknown reason] when we upgraded.
    The same script works fine in a standalone mode[using the system's default python packages] but fails only when run within WLST.
    Does WLST package a different set of zipfile libraries? Can anyone point out what might be going wrong here?

    I did get a reply from someone on the jfreechart forum, but need to ask more questions. This was his reply:
    Hi Allyson,
    You are trying to add a (subclass of) JFrame to a JPanel...that won't work, of course, and Java tells you so.
    You need to create a ChartPanel to display your chart. This is a subclass of JComponent, which you can happily add to a JPanel (or any other container).
    Regards,
    Dave Gilbert
    Here is the code for the method:
    private void LineChartFrame() {
    double[][] data = new double[][] {
    { 1.0, 4.0, 3.0, 5.0, 5.0, 7.0, 7.0, 8.0 },
    { 5.0, 7.0, 6.0, 8.0, 4.0, 4.0, 2.0, 1.0 },
    { 4.0, 3.0, 2.0, 3.0, 6.0, 3.0, 4.0, 3.0 }
    DefaultCategoryDataset dataset = new DefaultCategoryDataset(data);
    // set the series names...
    String[] seriesNames = new String[] { "First", "Second", "Third" };
    dataset.setSeriesNames(seriesNames);
    // set the category names...
    String[] categories = new String[] { "Type 1", "Type 2", "Type 3", "Type 4", "Type 5", "Type 6", "Type 7", "Type 8" };
    dataset.setCategories(categories);
    // create the chart...
    chart = ChartFactory.createLineChart(
    "Line Chart Demo 1", // chart title
    "Category", // domain axis label
    "Value", // range axis label
    dataset, // data
    true, // include legend
    true, // tooltips
    false); // urls
    chartPanel = new ChartPanel(chart);
    chartPanel.setPreferredSize(new java.awt.Dimension(500, 270));
    setContentPane(chartPanel);
    }And I tried this to add it to my panel:
    jPanel1.add(chartPanel, null);But I get this error:
    java.lang.NullPointerException
    ChartPanel is defined globally in this file.
    jPanel1 is my main panel that I want to add the chart to.
    I am putting my last duke dollar on this in the hopes that someone can help. Thanks.

  • Help with adding audio files to page

    I am using DW CS5.  I have had numerous troubles adding audio files to any page.  Please know that I am not at all computer savy when it comes to html codes etc.  But I have been working with DW CS5 and have a functional website and my pages validate.  That being said, please be patient with me if I am asking stupid questions or don't understand the solution.
    Now to the problem....I originally wanted to add mp3 files...but I am not sure how to work with plugins or which plugin to use.
    Therefore, I converted my mp3 files to swf and used the insert media file feature in DW CS5.  But when I look at the finished page...I only see a big white box.  Nothing happens when you click on it.
    First question...which is the best method to add audio files?
    Second question...what steps do I need to follow achieve the desired result?
    Note:  there is one validation error on this page and I'm not sure why or how to fix it.  Any suggestions here would be greatly appreciated.

    Woohoo! I was able to resolve the issue including the validation issue.  But I have a follow up question...
    Currently if you click on the play button another window pops up which has the play/control/stop buttons to control the audio file.  The attribute is set to new window.  If I change the attribute to parent window, then the page that has the control buttons overlays ontop of the page with the link.
    To get back to the original page, one must click on the back arrow near the address bar.
    Isn't there a way to not have a separate window appear?  In other words, the controls are embeded into the parent page?

  • Full file names on Desktop Icons

    coming from 10.5, all of my desktop icons revealed the full file name. under the icons. Now on 10.6.2, they are "..." abbreviated. I've looked everywhere and through the "Show View Options" by right-clicking, it only allows me to choose between showing the file info (like size), but not the full names.
    Is there an option somewhere to address this?
    Thanks!

    Set the grid spacing wider in the view options (View menu, Show View Options).

  • Adding zip file to classpath or -Xbootclasspath on J9

    Hi,
    I'm trying to add a zip file containing javax classes (jscience-vm14.zip) to the classpath when running my program. I haven't had any problems adding jar files for instance, but I can't seem to have this zip file included so that it can be recognized by the jvm.
    I've noticed in the installation document of the J9 that if you want to add javax classes it has to be put on the -Xbootclasspath. So I've tried including the zip file using -Xbootclasspath/p:path/to/zipfile/zipfile.zip and I've tried -Xbootclasspath/a:path/to/zipfile/zipfile.zip. I've also tried just including it in the classpath with no luck either. I keep getting a NoClassDefFoundError: javax.units.Unit which is part of the jscience package
    Any ideas how to get the zip file included?
    Kind regards
    Simon

    Hi,
    Thank you for your answer!
    I'm using SWT and here's the code:
    lstBread.addListener (SWT.Selection, new Listener () {
                   public void handleEvent (Event e) {
                   System.out.println("Widget selected!");
    It's working wtihout error on win32 platform. But there is no call on Windows Mobile 5.0 platform. It doesn't run and no exception is throwed on J9 console.
    However, when i use the same way for event handling in SWT Button, there is no problem both on WM5 and win32 platform. It's executed as i want.
    The code for SWT Button:
    btnSView.addListener (SWT.Selection, new Listener () {
                   public void handleEvent (Event e) {
         System.out.println("Widget selected!");
    I couldn't find the reason of that. Why doesn't the list#addListener run on WMobile?
    Best Regards,

  • LV 7.1 - How can I use installer to create folder with its files included w/o adding each file?

    I have several files to place in folders created by the installer. Can't seem to see how I can avoid adding each file individually at build time. Is there an easier way to do this? Simply "adding" a folder would be a solution.
