Adding a gradient to a style

Hi
no doubt a silly question but I'm having a severe mental
blockage. CS3 I've
created a gradiant I want to add it to styles so I can use it
on other areas
of the graphic automatically rather than type in the hex.
Is there a way to do it?
thanks
Ian

Hi Linda
thanks for that, new Iwas having a senior moment :-)

  • "Text" Crashes when adding new captions; disconnects from "Styles," etc.

    Running Windows 8.1, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770 display adapter, 32GB RAM, 7TB of HDD Space, i7 Intel CPU, etc.
    Application: Adobe Premiere Elements 12
    After selecting "Text -> New Text -> Default Text" from the menu bar with the idea of adding a caption to a video clip, it appears that after 1 or 2 successful attempts that the text module disconnects from the style module; "Absalom" becomes the defaulted font, a series of "UUU UUU UUU" characters appears in the caption overlay screen, and no changes can be made, i.e., I cannot change the text, nor can I pick a new style to match previous styles already in use!
    Sure could use some help with this...I've posted several items so far and have received no help, no fixes, for any of these pleas for help. So far, I've experienced this is typical for Adobe, and that if we want any "fixes" to problems associated with their apps, we're supposed to wait for and purchase the next updates?
    Dissillusioned!

    Thank you for your response! MUCH appreciated!
    Additional fodder re this problem:
    1)      I’ve installed two 250GB SSD drives on this system, one is the C: drive, the 2nd is the D: drive.
    2)      I began installing ALL applications to their default locations (C:\Program Files, C:\Program Files (x86).
    3)      I ran out of room on the C: drive, so began migrating applications to the D: drive, as I’ve done forever in the past.
    a.       Uninstall applications from C: drive
    b.      New install on D: drive
    4)      Tested apps against new installations, seemed to work OK.
    Now…having reviewed your suggestions, with all implemented, I’ve discovered the following:
    1)      The path “Local Disc (C) Users->Owner->AppData->Roaming->Adobe->Premiere Elements 12.0->12.0” contains NO “Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs” file.
    2)      Within that folder, there exists only a “logs” folder, and a “Trace Database.txt” file.
    Thank you for also having taken a look at the Elements Organizer issue as well! Update:
    1)      BEFORE migrating the Adobe applications from the C: drive to the D: drive, and while still having some room left on the C: drive, I had the problems as indicated earlier. My first action was to move the catalog file over to my “E:” drive where there was plenty of room. This action did not solve the problem.
    2)      AFTER migrating the Adobe applications to the D: drive, I easily reconnected to the catalog file located on the “E:” drive.
    3)      The same problem exists while trying to “import,”  ID and create thumbnails.
    a.       Import only 1 file…process is OK.
    b.      Import 100 files, Organizer chokes along the way…and may either:
                                                                   i.      Crash completely
                                                                 ii.      Import all files, creating a “space” for them in the display window, but no thumbnails.
                                                                iii.      Import all files, create space for them, create a few thumbnails, then crash.
    It took me several days to “import” 4,200+  *.m2ts video files into the Organizer. Upon completion, it appears that all is functional with the Organizer app. Must play with it some more to make sure.
    Again, thank you for your help!

  • Applying a gradient to my object results in a tiled pattern.

    Hi,
    I'm not sure how to explain this, and have had trouble trying to find help because I don't really know how to describe what's happening.
    I created a diagonal gradient that I applied to a rectangle with rounded corners. I added the gradient to the swatches pallet. I then created another rectangle which was immediately filled with the gradient swatch. However, the gradient created was shaped like the rectangle and did not line up with the object, thus creating a tiled pattern of the swatch inside the rectangle. Attached image "gradient.jpg" shows the first (normal) gradient and the second (tiled) gradient.
    I moved the rectangle and observed that the gradient did not move with the object. It's like the gradient is stuck to the page and so the tiling pattern changes depending on where I move the rectangle.
    Does anyone know what is going on and how I can get rid of it? I just want a rectangle with a regular gradient across the fill.
    I'm using Illustrator CS4 win.
    Thanks for any help you can provide.
    Steven

    Thanks for the quick reply, Wade.
    Fantastic - it worked just fine. The only thing I noticed is that the swatch doesn't retain the -45 degree angle. Is this something I have to specify in the gradient pallet each time I apply the swatch? Actually I just tested it and worked out that a graphic style contains both the gradient information and the angle.
    Thanks again for your help.
    Cheers,
    Steven
    BTW, were you able to view the image I attached? When I view my post, it has the word QUEUED after it and I can't select it. Sorry, first time I've attached an image... Actually, just worked out there's an 'insert image' button in the editor, so I'll use that from now on. Cheers.

  • How do you add a gradient to a (bezier) stroke?

    I created a stroke with the bezier tool, just two points. I want to have a distinct gradient to the color but I can't figure out how to do it. I added the gradient colorize filter but it doesn't seem to do it. Any advice?

    Gradient Colorize works a little differently than you expect.  If you already have a gradient image (any image that has a dynamic range will do) and apply a Gradient Colorize filter, the image will have its colors remapped to the gradient colors based on the luminance levels (0 - 255; color converted to gray/brightness) -- light colors assuming the left end colors in the filter gradient; dark colors assume the colors at the right end.
    So, to create a line colored as a gradient, the easiest way is to create a shape, color it with the gradient you want, add an Image mask to it and apply the line to the mask.
    OR
    you can convert the outline from a solid to Airbrush. In the Style. Go into the Stroke inspector and select Stroke Color Mode > Color over Stroke and select your gradient there (I used one similar to Rainbow). You'll probably also want to tighten up the spacing (in Style) and the Brush Profile (open up the gradient and move the white tab far to the right.)  The problem with Airbrush is the brush dabs are always circles and your gradient will look like a pole:
    So the solution to that is to use Brush Type  > Image, draw a small white rectangle or square and drop it into the Brush Source.
    There are other ways (involving a replicator -- use your line as the source for Geometry (if it's not a simple straight line); set the color mode to Over Pattern; adjust the Points higher for a smoother effect.)
    There's usually more than one way to accomplish things in Motion.

  • Remove gradient banding

    Hi
    I'm using Photoshop CC and I am currently trying to remove some background gradient banding seen in some corporate style photographs I've taken recently. I've basically added a gradient circle of light to the black background.
    When viewed on computer the gradient works perfectly - but, when viewed on a mobile phone (which these would most likely be viewed on - on apps such as linkedin etc), the banding seems to be very apparent.
    I've tried various techniques such as creating a dithering layer while working in 16bit: following this guide (Photoshop Actions to fix the banding of Photoshop's gradients.):
    Create a new layer (should be topmost).
    Fill it with solid 50% gray.
    Make some noise: Filter > Noise > Add Noise. The settings are Amount = 25%; Distribution = Uniform; Monochromatic = checked.
    Now hit Command+F (Ctrl+F on Windows) to repeat the noise filter on the same layer (if you're curious why, watch the layer's histogram as you perform the noise filter the first and second time).
    Set the layer to Linear Light. A great blending mode for this purpose. The darker half of the shades is implemented as inversed linear subtraction (like Linear Burn), and the lighter half as linear addition (like Linear Dodge).
    In the Layers palette, set the magic values for the layer Opacity to 1% and the Fill opacity to 19%. You could (but don't, really) read the small note below about all the gory details*.
    We're done. Now lock the layer (the padlock icon in the Layers palette) so it won't react to mouse input. You can forget it exists.
    I've also added noise to the gradient layer to see if that seems to help - but it doesn't really.
    I'd then merge all working layers together, resize to 960 x 640, convert to 8bit and save.
    Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Stephen.

    Without being able to test various approaches to solving the problem before posting one here, all that is available is to work with images you posted.  In both the original and in the second image (which has increased contrast that makes the banding more apparent), making a loose lasso selection of the offending area and applying a Gaussian blur eliminated the banding. Not fancy, but it worked as a final step. Perhaps it is worth a try.

  • [CS2][AS] Make XML import map is calling a refresh on styles?

    If this can be of use to someone else... it's probably not CS2,AS specific.. but this is what i use.
    It's the second time i have a bug like this, where changing the order of my calls is fixing the problem. With this one, i was getting random missing font error (times(1)) while batching documents(wich make the batch script batch crash as there is a modal dialog open). Not always on the same document, it was really fustrating as i was not able to get my finger on the problem!
    I actually knew the source of the problem as i had added a fix (maybe not the best solution, but it was working well) that actually was removing the style from all the text frame (i noticed that using map style to tag was not always working well(when text frame had overriden?), so that's why i added code to reset the style before doing a map. But i was not understanding why it was happening so randomly...
    I tought at first it was happening during save (as it reopen the document) but after a few experimentation it looked like it was occuring during the import map redefinition (See code below: make XML import map with properties {markup tag:tStyle, mapped style:tStyle}).
    Looks like the make XML import is calling some sort of document refresh wich then pop the font missing dialog (even with never interact as script preferences!)! (missing font is actually a bug i had also in other circumstances.. exemple when you have a extra return at the end of a tagged text (outside the tag)). A bit unexpected, i really tought that creating a xml import map was just creating data structure in document model to be used later on by the auto style call...
    The problematic script:
    tell application "Adobe InDesign CS2"
    set myDocument to document 1
    tell myDocument
    --Reset styles.
    set applied character style of every text of every text frame of every spread to character style 1
    set applied paragraph style of every text of every text frame of every spread to paragraph style 1
    --Create a tag to style mapping.
    set tList to name of every XML tag
    set tNumItems to count of tList
    repeat with i from 1 to tNumItems
    set tStyle to item i of tList
    make XML import map with properties {markup tag:tStyle, mapped style:tStyle}
    end repeat
    --Map the XML tags to the defined styles.
    auto style
    end tell
    end tell
    And the working solution (just moved the reset of style after the import map creation loop):
    tell application "Adobe InDesign CS2"
    set myDocument to document 1
    tell myDocument
    --Create a tag to style mapping.
    set tList to name of every XML tag
    set tNumItems to count of tList
    repeat with i from 1 to tNumItems
    set tStyle to item i of tList
    make XML import map with properties {markup tag:tStyle, mapped style:tStyle}
    end repeat
    --Reset styles.
    set applied character style of every text of every text frame of every spread to character style 1
    set applied paragraph style of every text of every text frame of every spread to paragraph style 1
    --Map the XML tags to the defined styles.
    auto style
    end tell
    end tell

    it doesnt print any server control message. in my "page_404.jsp" I am printing current date and time (to check if the server visited that page) everytime when i refresh "index.jsp" the server goes to "page_404.jsp" and prints the current date and time.
    so basically the only message which the console shows is the current date/time which i am printing in the "page_404.jsp"

  • RH-generated WebHelp doesn't display some CSS styles

    I've worked with RH for a while, including creating other WebHelp projects in RH that have been deployed without any problem. On my current RH9 project, however, some of the CSS styles are not being applied after the project output is moved to a network directory. When I open the project output on my Desktop, the styles all render correctly.
    The styles in question aren't especially unusual:
    DIV.text {
              width: 640px;
              padding-left: 25px;
              padding-right: 25px;
              padding-bottom: 25px;
              margin-left: auto;
              margin-right: auto;
              background-color: #EDEBDE;
    P.footer {
              text-align: center;
              font-size: 8pt;
              line-height: 25%;
              color: #A13619;
    The kicker is that some of the styles ARE being applied (e.g., background image), while the 2 styles above are NOT being applied.
    Some of the things I've already tried include:
    - creating a new copy of the CSS file
    - making sure the correct stylesheet is referenced in the HTML files
    - making sure the correct stylesheet is referenced in the MasterPage
    - making sure the correct CSS type is specified in the HTML files
    - adding "!important" to the styles that aren't being applied
    Has anyone seen / resolved issues like this before?
    Thanks!

    Solution:
    My supervisor and I huddled on the problem and eventually found these discussions:
    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4966952/ie-not-rendering-css-properly-when-the-site-is- located-at-networkdrive
    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/167657/will-targeting-ie8-with-conditional-comments-wor k#answer-168131
    I opened the IE Tools > Developer Tools panel, and used the Browser Mode settings to check the variations (IE7, IE8, and IE8 Compatibility). IE8 displayed all DIVs correctly, while the other two apparently severed the CSS file from the HTM file.
    I had to do a mass find/replace, pasting another meta tag below the RH generated compatibility check:
    <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=8" />
    And there was much rejoicing.
    As an aside, the new meta tag did not work when I tried to apply it to the Master Page....which makes sense, I guess.

  • Applied styles aren't showing up in preview or generated file

    I have added a number of new styles to my stylesheet. They show up fine in my Design view.  However, once I apply them, then click on the preview button or even generate webhelp to see what they look like as generated, the styles are not showing up.  What am I missing?
    btw.. I am using RH10.
    Thanks!

    Hi... it's happening in the generated output as well as the preview.  I tried generating various outputs... same result... no styles applied - no apparent errors.  Here's what appeared in the Output View for each:

  • Where are the Gradient color presets in CS6?

    Hi,
    I've gone from CS4 to CS6 and when using the Gradient tool, there used to be a properties box that you could open with a whole list of preset color gradients to choose from, i used to use the 'Black - White' one all the time, which kinda blurred the edges, made a transparent gradient and allowed, for want of a better word, montages to be created easily, but now this function seems to have gone. Is it hiding somewhere that I don't know about? Or alternatively, can someone advise me on how to get the same effect that the Black White Preset used to give me?
    Thanks a lot
    Jules

    Yeah, those gradients are gone in CS6. On the one hand, most of them were pretty cheesy; on the other hand, it's a bit surprising they took away those presets but still didn't offer users a simple way to save gradients.
    One way that you can save gradients is as Styles. As an experiment, I actually did this one day for the classic Fireworks gradients. Once created, styles can be saved as a library, where you can call on them from within any FW document.
    Another way to quickly create a black and white gradient is by setting the fill and/or stroke colors, which are the basis of gradients. You can reset the default fill and stroke colors within the Tools panel. However, this can be tricky, at times, depending on what objects are selected and what type of fill they already have; it can be easy to accidentally apply a stroke to an object this way. Alternatively, if Stroke is set to None, then setting Fill to Black will result in a black and white gradient when you switch to a gradient Fill type.

  • Add multiple gradients.

    I've found this tutorial on adding multiple gradients to form a glassy text http://wegraphics.net/blog/tutorials/illustrator/how-to-create-a-glassy-text-effect-in-ill ustrator/ and I never knew you could create multiple gradients on one object.
    I can only manage to apply one gradient. On the tutorial it sounds easy to just draw a gradient, then draw another. However it is not that simple; I draw a gradient, then I attempt to draw the second, and it just moves the first gradient.
    How does one draw multiple gradients on the same object?

    Thanks Kurt, I am using CS5.5.
    I see what you're saying I think. Add a new fill, turn the opacity down.
    To others who this may help in future, I can't seem to rotate the angle of the gradient by using the gradient drawing tool. But as Kurt says go from the appearance panel and use the angle of the gradient there.

  • How do I change the gradient so my background colour goes from dark to light?

    I am a relative newbie to PSE. If have tried adding a gradient to my background colour but I have noticeable lines. I need it to go from dark to light from left to right.
    Can anyone help me?
    Mike

    Hi Mike
    You use the gradient tool (foreground to background color)
    e.g set colors to black/white at bottom of tool pallet
    Select gradient tool and set mode to lighten
    Click on top of your image and drag down to the bottom (holding the shift key whilst dragging ensures a vertical line)
    Then release the mouse.

  • Gradients are not appearing smooth

    I'm having a problem in that the gradients I'm placing on background images are appearing very grainy as though they are bands of increasingly shaded color.  I tried setting the color up to RGB 32-bit but i'm still getting an unusual amount of grain.  I'm positive it's not my monitor as I can see other gradients just fine and smooth.  Attached is a picture of what I mean.  The left is a gradient made in another program while the right is a gradient made in photoshop.  Anyone know what's up?

    I did have dither selected when I made it.  One thing I think might be causing it is that I'm setting the gradient layer to a blend mode of multiply to infuse it with the grey rectangle, which causes it to be more grainy.  I also tried just adding a gradient overlay as an effect but had the same problem when I set the blend mode to multiply.  I noticed the gradient looks pretty descent on its own but I can't think of any other way to blend it with the grey background.  Any suggestions?

  • Type Gradient Question

    I am looking to change the gradient from bottom to top in Layer Styles.
    I have used the layer style > gradient overlay. This causes a gradient on the typeface to be darker at the bottom. I can't find a way to make the gradient darker at the top. I will also be using a drop shadow which will close the lighter typeface bottom areas. Any suggestions?
    Thanks

    Double-click on the Gradient in the Styles dialog. You can edit it there with the little sliders.

  • How to bring Sample CSS Style Sheets into a Template?

    I am creating a site from scratch using CS4 Template.  Can I incorporate more than one DW Sample CSS Style Sheet?  And how do I bring them into the Template site?
    Thanks, g

    Thank you.  I added the 3 sample css style sheets I want to use into my site.  Now I am trying to bring a different sample css into different sections of the layout.  Example:
    Sidebar 1: green/yellow
    Sidebar 2: red/yellow
    Middle: blue/yellow
    I seem to only be able to have one for the whole page.  Is this true?
    What I am doing is clicking on the div tag: <div.sidebar#sidebar1>, then "Edit CSS" and then scroll down in the Class window to "attach style sheet" and there at the bottom is a link to the sample css style sheets.  I click on the one I want and it changes the css for the whole page not just the sidebar 1. Is there a way I can get a different css sample style sheet for each sidebar in a 3 column layout, and a different sample css for the middle?
    thank you very much
