Adding a infoobject

Hi all,
i am having a Cube in BWproduction system which is already in use and now the client has come with a request to add one more infoobject to that already existing cube.
i already have the data in that cube..so if i want to add a infoobject in Dev and then transport that to the Prd will the data existing will be deleted.
and if i add this field to the Datasource will i have to reinitialize from first like delete the old req and then initialize...any options. plz

so even if i add this field in datasource also i don;t need to do the re init right..jus do the replication and carry on with my normal delta loads.
if yes then how this infoobject will be populated
and is this the same even if its a key figure and i am not worried about the past data
any specific steps if this datasource is from Logistics
like clearing the RSA7 and clearing the extraction queue
please i am very confused and worried as its going to be into production system

Unless you delete data from Cube , Data from ODS can not be deleted and this behavior is to maintain consistency of data and subsequent delta updates from ODS to Cube.
You cant delete the data from ODS if data is already in Active table of ODS.
In this scenario you can do only delete the whole data & again upload.
ODS ---> Rightclick -
> Delete
You will have to activate ODS in order to delete data from ODS.
Ideal sequence could be
1. Delete data from ODS
2. Do enhancement in R/3 side
3. Do enhancement in BW side ( add/ remove info object )
4. Activate ODS, Update Rule.

Adding new infoobject to cube with data

Hi experts
Our cube contains data and is fully compressed (E-table), there is are no requests in F-table.
We need to add 2 key figures and 2 characteristics.
The characteristics get a new dimension table.
We don't use the remodel technique. We add these new infoobjects.
There is no need for a reload of historical data for these new objects.
We only need data starting from the first load date after the changes occured.
Are there any errors in this approach?

When you are adding a new dimension to your cube - you are adding a primary key to your E and F Fact tables - therefore when your transport goes it - it will reorganize your cube tables.
For this - assuming that you are collecting the changes in the normal way and not changing any settings ....
1. Check the UNDO table space in target system , the UNDO table space should have enought free space available that will be greater than the size of your E and F Fact table sizes - because , the way the transport moves is that a copy of the table is taken in the undo table space in the database and then the tables are adjusted - if your undo table space is insufficient - the transport will fail after some time
2. If this is a big cube - then the transport will take time to go in - if BASIS imports transport requests in sequence - then this transport will hold the queue and might delay others whi have smaller transports.... make sure that your transport goes in last if there are others waiting for you to complete
3. Also inform BASIS that the transport is going to take time - sometimes long running transports can get the BASIS team excited :-)
These are not technical but some bases that can be covered in advance...

Adding More InfoObjects into a Dimension

Hi Team,
I have enhanced 2lis_11_vahdr with 5 partner functions (in 7.0).
In order to load the data into 2sd_c03 ,
Would it be OK to add these 5 infoobjects into the CUSTOMER dimension which already has 10 info objects.?
Is there a better way to handle this.?
My generic question is how many infoobjects should a Dimension contain for optimal purposes.?

I am not sure if there is limit on the number of char you can have in the dim table, you can have all the char added to the customer master data but if you need any of the fields added is required for nav. then you need to turn it on as nav. attribute which will slow down the query peformance. Instead you could just add the fields in the cube in one of the dim related to customer so that your query performance is not affected, but the problem with is this that if one of the attribute you just added changed over time, the user will see the historical value of the attribute but not the new one. So, basically based on the scenario you have, you can come up to the best approach.

InfoSet maintance - added new InfoObject, not available in query

Hi,
We appended a new field to the 0VENDOR_ATTR extractor and the data comes accoss fine. We are using InfoObject 0CREDITOR in an InfoSet. When I did an 'adjust' step to the InfoSet, the new InfoObject became visable but the check box is grayed out and the new InfoObject is not usable in a query. Is there any way to change the check box so that the new InfoObject is available in a query?

Hi John,
Change your 0CREDITOR InfoObject and make sure that the 'Attribute Only' box is not checked. You will be unable to make it usable in an InfoSet query if this box is checked. Let me know if this solves your issue.

Problems with transformation; infoobject not updated in DSO.

Hi all,
We are having some problems with one of our transformations between PSA and DSO.
Suddenly some of the fields are not filled in the DSO. The mapping for field Sales order number worked fine, and then I added an infoObject in the DSO to hold the info for Sales order item. I also replaced the infoobject that was supposed to hold the sales order number. After this, none of the two fields has any data in DSO. I checked the PSA, and the data is available here. I tested the rule in Rule details and for sales order number it gives the correct result, but for sales order item it gives a runtime error; assertion failed. I checked on SAP Notes, and found 929934. But the corrections are already added in our system.
Has anyone got any ideas on what to do?

Hi,
There are a number of problems in Transformation when either a source field or target field is changed.
This can lead to inconsistent transformation.
You can raise a message to SAP or best thing is if possible delete the Transformation and create a new one.

Data not loading for new Fields InfoObjects from DSO to InfoCube

Hi Gurus -
               I have a DataSource that is providing data to existing DSO then to Infocube. My client asked me to added couple fields to DataSource and get the data to DSO and then DSO to InfoCube.
Here is the Old scenarion:   DataSource -> DSO -> InfoCube.
Here is the New Scenation:
     DataSource ( Added new fields) -> DSO (added new InfoObjects for Corresponding DataSource FIelds) -> InfoCube( Added new InfoObjects to mapped from DSO)
I added the new fields to DataSource, added the corresponding InfoObjects to DSO and InfoCube.
I successfully loaded data from DataSource to DSO. Data is populating for the new Fields/InfoObjects in DSO.
But when I load data from DSO to InfoCube, I don't see any data for New Fields InfoObjects in the InfoCube.
Data from DSO to InfoCube is loading fine for the Old InfoObjects Fields but not for the New InfoObjects I added in InfoCube.

Hi,
Why dont u debug the load through DTP debugging and check what happens to the source field and target field once it passes through the transformation. You can easily trace back where the fields are becoming blank.
The loads which you have mentioned earlier did it have values in Added Records/Transferred Records column for the cube.

Problem while adding a new dimension in a existing cube with data in BW3.5

We are trying to create a new dimension with new characteristics in a existing cube. But while activating we are getting error that "InfoCube contains data; intentional changes not permitted". Can we add a new dimension in a existing cube with data in BW3.5? If it is not possible then we can take the backup and delete the data from cube and then change the cube. But my question is that, when we will transport the cube with changes to quality then will it transport successfully or same procedure needs to be done there as well.

Adding new infoobject /dimension to the cube containing data in 3.5 is not possible.
easier solution is create a new cube similar to old and add the new dimension and proceed.
else you have to drop data and transport.

Problem in assigning Infoobjects to Catalog using BAPI_IBOJ_CHANGE

Hi Gurus,
I am creating infoobjects using BAPI_IOBJ_CREATE and assigning the created infoobjects to a catalog using BAPI_IOBJ_CHANGE.
But, while assign the info objects to a catalog, if the catalog already contains infoobjects they get unassigned, and the data they contained is lost.
Is it possible to assign the infoobjects to a infoobject catalog without affecting the already existing infoobjects in that catalog?
If yes, please mention how it can be done.

How to remove existing infoobject from infosource?

I was added one infoobject Z01 into DSO ZDSO01 and Infosource 2LIS_08TRTLP
, and did mapping in the transfer rule. Now I removed Z01 from DSO ZDSO01, but I'm unable to remove Z01 from infosource.
System show me error message like:
The InfoObject ZO01 is still used in the following places: In routine xxxxxxxxxxx of the update rules for Data Target ZDSO01 InfoSource 2LIS_08TRTLP
Anyone know how to remove Z01 from DSO ZDSO01 in my case.

Hi,
I tried replicating your scenario and got the same error like you. I guess you did not follow the below mentioned steps in sequence.
1) Delete the infoobject from DSO and activate it. This would put your update rules in revised status.
2) Reactivate your update rules.(if you dont perform this step, system automatically compares with the last activated update rule, where your infoobject was used, therefore it gives the error)
3)Remove the transfer rule for this infoobject.
4) Delete the infoobject from communication structure.
This should work.

Add new infoobject to LARGE ODS

I am adding new infoobject to existing ODS. This ODS has over 100million records. It takes forever to add the infoobject.
I think the issue is SAP does not allow nulls so actually drops all the data and reloads with the new field populated with spaces.
In our environment the problem is noramally not an issue in DEV since there is limited data but when transporting through the landscape the transport takes forever since in other environments we have lots of data.
I proved it is not just a transport issue by doing it directly in a system with over 100million records - still took forever and no transport involved.
Anyone else had a similar problem with large ODS's and any workarounds?

SE14 will do the same...
it is the RDBMS which does that internally; I did once this with a huge table in Oracle with and without logging the operation; the perf is way much better.... on the other hand it's bit risky therefore we usually plan this accordingly (week-end) and just wait until this is finished....
another option is to extract the whole ODS into PSA; delete it remove secondary indexes, add the IObj and then reload the ODS from PSA and rebuild indexes; this is actually the most secure way, again you'll need to be patient...
Finally you could perhaps logically partition your ODS in order to avoid having such monster in your DB although 100 mio is still OK; it really becomes a problem when above 500 mio records...

Adding a Field in a Transaction Datasource

I have created a ZAUTH InfoObject in BI for the field Authorization group (BEGRU - MARA). This ZAUTH Infoobject is getting filled in through Master data Load of 0MATERIAL. I have added the Infoobject ZAUTH as a Navigational Atttribute in 0MATERIAL.
I have created a Billing DSO for the Transaction load which gets data through the Datasource 2LIS_12_VDITM. In DSO, i have a requirement wherein i have to write a routine using 0customer & Authorization group (ZAUTH). The requirement goes like this:
If the Customer number = 100 & Authorization = ABC, Put Detail = Stock.
If the Customer number = 200 & Authorization = XYZ, Put Detail = Trade.
The Problem here is i dont have the BEGRU field in the Transaction Datasource 2LIS_12_VDITM. I know we can customize the Datasource & add this field. But, is there any other way to do this?

I guess you can realize this requirement without enhancing the datasource. There is 1:1 relationship between material and auth group as it is added as an attribute on it. You can derive the auth group by looking up material master data in the code, for the material on the billing document. Once this is derived you can build your logic for detail. You need to derive auth group at a lower level in the data flow and put logic for detail at the next level or you can consider using start (derive auth group) and end routines (logic for Detail).

Delete infoobject from an infocube with data

Hi,
I have just added an infoobject to an infocube which has data. Now, I need to delete that infoobject and I think that if the infocube has data I couldnt delete the infoobject.
How can I delete the infoobject without removing the data?

Hi David,
deleting an infoObject from an database table is everytime difficult. The correct solution depends on different requirements:
How many datasets are in the infocube - how large is the cube.
Can you reload the data from a source or an DSO
Does your release support remodeling.
The best solution would be - delete the data, transport your change of datamodel to prod system and reload the data. The second solution could be: create an copy of the actual infocube, load the the data from the original cube to copy, delete the data from original cube, transport your changes to prod system, load the data from copy to "new"original cube, delete the copy.
You can also try to use the remodeling function. But there is no guarantee that this will work correct. We made some good and some bad experiences with this tool.

Problems adding new caracteristics ti 0IC_C03 Cube

Hi people:
We made a copy of standar cube 0IC_C03. We add some new time characteristics (0halfyear, etc..). De activation of the cubes is OK, but when we try to map the corresponding fields in the tranformation rules, the new fields doesn't exist. Like the group of transformation are standar, we try to add them manually, but the infoobject isn't seen.
Does this cube has a limitation for adding new infoobjects? Am I misssing some step I don't know?

There is a relation between time characterstics ,
We have to take care of this relation in the transformation mapping where we are mapping source fields to target fields.

Insert an infoobject in a multiprovider?

Hi Experts,
The particular infoobject that I need in my zquery is not available in the multiprovider of my query.
1. Can i insert the infoobject directly in the multiprovider? This infoobject is not created as a infoprovider. what will happen if i change this infoobejct as a infoprovider? when i did the where used list for this infoobject, it did not display any data target. all i see was transformation rules. that means it is not used in any data target right?
2. All i want is to include this infoobject in my zquery, How to do it? what is the best way to accomplish this task?
3. There are two DSO's included in my multrprovider. If i add this infoobject to one of the DSO, what are the consequneces? The other reports that are based on this multiprovider will get effected? What will happen to the existing data in the DSO's? Do I have to reload the data again or can i just do a full repair request after adding this infoobject.

No you cannot insert a char into a MP w/o the same being avialable in any of the underlying datatarget

What is the purpose of the infoobject?

Reports will not be effected, you may have to change queries and add the new infoobject if needed. MP needs to be changed as well.
4. The attribute only flag is checked for this infoobject? what it mean? what are its effects?
You cannot drilldown on that char.
