Adding a letter to names of open files while saving

I would like to be able to run an [action (?)] script to all open files in photoshop that 1. adds the letter "e" to the beginning of the current filename and 2. saves the file as a .jpg
I am sorry if a similar question has been answered before, I cannot seem to find it... and/or I do not know enough about scripting to be able to edit it to do what I want it to.
It is totally possible that I also do not know the simplest way to do this, so suggestions are welcome- I am trying to streamline my saving process. Typically after I run a batch of an action that applies a filter to every open file, I have to go to each and save, adding "e" to the beginning of the filename. I would like for PS to do this for me!
Any helpers out there? I would be so appreciative!!
Thank you!

Some of the opened documents may need some processing done on it before it can be saved be save as a jpeg.  Like Lab color not supported either is transparency and 32 bit color the easiest way to do it is to download and Install the Image Processor Pro plug-in script.  Then use menu File>Automate>Image processor Pro...  and fill out its dialog something like this

  • I have difficulty pasting text into the file name field(prefix only) while saving files.

    OS: WinXP sp3
    FF: 3.6.3
I have difficulty pasting text into the file name field (prefix only) while saving files. example: File name is Pic123.jpg and I want to rename it ABC123.jpg and I have ABC loaded into the WinXPsp3 clipboard. When I highlight\right-click\delete "Pic" then attempt to paste the ABC, I get either no reaction, or upon multiple paste attempts, the ABC is appended to the end of the file, after the extension, as "Pic123.jpgABC". If I delete this unwanted suffix, or repeat the process several times, eventually I can delete the unwanted portion of the prefix and paste the desired text. Sometimes it works fine first try, but mostly it takes several tries. I'm using Firefox 3.6.3 but the problem existed in whatever previous version I had too. This issue only occurs when using the delete/paste; I can always manually change the name by typing. Thank you for your help.

  • InDesign CC can't open file - error: saved in newer version (CS7.0)

My coworker and I set up CC accounts last month (upgraded from CS5) but now when I'm trying to open a file she edited recently I get this error: "Cannot open "file name.indd" because it was saved with a newer version of Adobe InDesign (CS7.0). You must use that version or later to open the file. To then enable it to be opened in this version, choose Save As InDesign CS4 or later, or export to IDML."
Both are PCs. We are using the same software it seems so I'm confused as to the CS 7 version she is saving in and doesn't allow me to open the file.
    Any suggestions?

Here we see what happens because Adobe went for CC instead of CS7: people that have a Creative Cloud account get confused: 'a creative cloud must be version CC' - while it still can be CS6. Not the first time I've heard this confusion the last fee weeks...
Imagine later when hew versions come out and Adobe sticks to its plan to call all versions CC instead of CC1, CC2 etc.

  • Cannot open file because saved CS7.0, what?

Sorry - i do not understand this: i try to open a indd file with Indd CS6 and i see this alert:
I do not use CS7.0 but i use CS6 8.1! What is the problem?
I do not know what Indesign have created this file.
(Note: InDesign CC open the file with no problem!).
    Many thanks!

The error messages were written before the decision to name the new versions CC instead of CS7 was made. The file was saved in CC (version 9.x)

  • I'm having trouble opening files back-saved to Illustrator 3

    Can anyone help?
I work for a commercial printer and we regularly have to supply files to our suppliers so they can make dies for pattern cut items. The normal process for us is to create an imposed PDF straight out of our workflow and supply that, but sometimes, if the pattern is intricate for instance, our supplier will ask for an eps file back-saved to old Illustrator version 3. I think is because their CAD machinery and software is rather old.
Historically this has never caused any problems but I'm now finding that the V3 files won't re-open after their initial save, either on my own Mac or at our supplier. I get this error message
and then Illustrator just opens a blank document.
My colleague, using an Identical Mac and the same version of Illustrator (CC 2014) has no problems. We've gone through all the settings and preferences and can find no differences between mine and his.
    Any thoughts?

    Rich,
You may try to find out whether there is any difference in your settings, or look at the list below.
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

  • Photoshop gives "Program Error" when I try to open files while VPN

I think this may be a new one. While VPN on my company network, Photoshop CS cannot open any files. Either drag and drop, double click or even file open command. You get the clock and the message "failed to open because of a Program Error.... " or something close to that. I'm sure it says Program Error though. Works fine if I'm not VPN but soon as I'm on it stops opening files or even creating a new blank canvas gives that error. I checked Adobe forum and nothing there to find about this one. Anyone else have this happen?

    Hi, SSI.
    1. What VPN client are you using?
As a guess, your VPN client may be blocking a port that PS CS may use for license verification over the Internet. The fact that it works AOK when not using the VPN would tend to support this hypothesis. As to what port it may be attempting to use, I can't say, but you may be able to find this out from Adobe and then work with your firm's networking staff to see if this port can be opened for use when the VPN is active.
    2. You noted that you "checked Adobe forum and nothing there to find about this one." Did you post to the Adobe Photoshop forum? If not, I recommend doing so.
    3. You wrote: "You get the clock and the message "failed to open because of a Program Error.... " or something close to that. I'm sure it says Program Error though."As FYI, in cases such as this, copying down the exact text of the message is helpful.
    Good luck!

  • ActiveX Excel Prevent Open File While Writting

I'm having some of the same problems with Excel and ActiveX found here:
    http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=170&message.id=254019&view=by_date_ascending&page=1
The last post from the above link gives an acceptable workaround (not ideal, but hey, what can you do?) to preventing the user from closing Excel when files are being written to with ActiveX through LabVIEW (since a user can open an Excel file while LV is writting to Excel files with ActiveX and all the files will share the same Excel application, instead of Excel opening a seperate application like one would hope).
My question for this post: In the previous post Ben had a problem with the user opening a different Excel file than those being written to. My VI opens an exisiting Excel file (test.xls) and writes to it. If the user opens test.xls while LV is still writting test.xls, it will throw an error. Note that the error is not thrown if test.xls is open before the VI starts writting to it, only if the user opens it while its being written to by LV.
Any ideas on how to lock the file so the user can't open it while it is being used by LV?
    Michael

Thanks thols. Thats a great solution, I actually had tried it but gave it up since the user could close out of "their" Excel (closing the reference), then open a new spreadsheet which would open in "my" Excel (if done while my subVI was still writing to Excel). At the time, this was a possible scenario for my program, and since I was writing so slowly had happened. I just sped up the writing of the Excel file (I had all the data to write, but was writing with "Set Cell Value.vi", which wrote one cell at a time; instead I wrote whole ranges of data). If Excel was already open, I would set interactive to false and have my spreadsheet minimized while writing to it. If Excel wasn't open, I would just make it invisible. Since I cut the time down to about a second, this worked for my application.

  • Can Photoshop CS5.1 open files created/saved in CS6?

I work in a collaborative environment. I've upgraded to CS6, but those i work with are working in photoshop cs5.1. Will they have problems opening files i create or save in CS6?

I don't know that I can offer a better long answer, nor do I know of any published list of things you can save in a Photoshop CS6 document that won't open properly in an earlier version.  I have tried a few things myself, like creating shapes, text, etc. and found that Photoshop CS5 sees them all just fine.  But it's not hard to think of things that wouldn't work, such as putting a brand new filter as a smart filter in a document.
Just using the cool new features would not necessarily net you incompatibility.  For example, doing a Content Aware Move or one of the new blurs just manipulate pixels, and at the end of the day the layer will just have pixels on it, which every version of Photoshop has known about all along.
Things like recording brush strokes in an action and trying to run the action on an earlier Photoshop would yield incompatibility, because older versions wouldn't know how to play such brush strokes back.
There is a "Maximize PSD and PSB File Compatibility" setting in the File Handling preferences, and the implication is that others will always be at the very least able to open a flattened version of the document, but I'm not sure that covers every case of individual incompatibility between recent versions of Photoshop.  I've never had occasion to test it out thoroughly.
Maybe one of the Adobe people can speak to this in more detail.
Do you still have a copy of Photoshop CS5 installed?  If so, and you're not sure about whether your PSD file is going to be compatible, you could of course try it yourself to be sure.

  • Find out the name of parameter file while oracle is running

can any one please tell me how can i find the name of oracle parameter file while oracle is running, i mean is there any parameter that specifies this thing, or is there any data dictionary view
second thing i want to change the default database i mean istead of starting the default database at startup the oracle should start the database that i specify,
i would be greatfull if any one could answer my questions

Ok, so you're running with SPFILE in default location. The file you speak about is used during the database create phase.
Just having a look at the file:
    c:\oracle\admin\orcl\pfile\init.ora.1142006183316I can say that:
    . The SID is ORCL
. You used DBCA to create the database
. DBCA started creating the database: Saturday 11 of February 2006 at 18:33
This file is used by the DBCA because when you create a database, you must have a parameter file in order to start the instance. This file is easily created as a text file (PFILE) first, then the instance is started. Once the database creation is over, the SPFILE is created from this PFILE. If you check the database create logs (in the %ORACLE_BASE%\admin\ORCL\* directory) you'll see a "CREATE SPFILE FROM PFILE" is ran after the database creation, or before, it depends, and the instance restarted in order for it to use the newly created SPFILE. After that, this file is useless.

  • PDF Generation Error Message:Couldn't open File while generating PDF from a Frame (7.2 Version) book

    Hi,
I'm trying to convert a book into PDF and I get the error message Couldn't open a file (... <filename>.fm) and the unavailable Fonts dialog box also appears. The tricky thing is I've converted the same book into PDF just a couple of days ago. Now when I tried to do it again, I get the above mentioned error message. I tried unselecting the File > Prefrences > General > Remember Missing Fonts checkbox too. However, it didn't help in generating the PDF. I will be thankful if anyone suggests a suitable workaround for this issue. Thanks in advance.

Usually, deselecting Remember missing fonts works.
The missing fonts message displays when you or FrameMaker opens the file. The workaround is to open all the files in the book, or at least those with the "missing" font, clearing the message for each file. Now print the book to PDF, while keeping the files open. This usually works because you have already cleared any missing fonts messages.

  • Cannot open files while printing

Does anyone know of a reason why when printing a large pdf (say around 100+ pages) i cannot open another file in the same program? The only way i have found around this is to: open one file to be printed in Reader then once the printing process has begun open another document via Open With and select Acrobat.
This is slightly more productive than only being able to open one document at a time but only slightly. NOTE* If i open, say 5 documents before i try to print then choose one to print the printing dialog box will appear in each document i have opened; at this point i still cant do anything witht the opened documents but at least i can read them.
This is really a major hiccup in my daily activites, what other options do i have and is there any way to open a PDF while printing another large one.
**PLEASE NOTE** There is never an error message that comes up when i try to open a PDF while printing, simply put nothing happens until printing finishes then all of the files will open at once. I had a reccomendation to make sure it wasnt a system resources issue, which I can safely say it is not.
Your help and observations would be greatly appricated.

I am still having this really strange problem, anyone have any suggestions? **NOTE** I did try using a different comp to rule out hardware problems, the same thing happens, while printing when you try to open a document nothing happens at all until printing finishes then all of a sudden all the files you tried to open while printing open up all at once. Is there some setting or restriction i dont know about that is forcing me into this? I am printing 100+ pages of paper size Arch D (36X42) so having to wait to do any work on pfd's while this massive print job is going on really sucks. Also the printers are network printers to the information being sent to the printer is off the computer really quickly, so i dont think it has something to do with being lagged out or anything.
Really any help at all would be great!

  • Solution to: AE CS4 Crashing when opening files or saving

My After Effects kept on crashing whenever I tried saving a file or open any file. It took me hours but I just simply reset my preferences. You can do this while After Effects is opening - just hold CTRL/ALT/SHIFT.
    I hope this helps somebody!

I installed CS4 on one machine but never booted it. Somehow today the CS4 icon started showing up on files and we're having trouble with files. We close them but the .idlk extension stays in the folder. I move to trash and get a prompt that the file is open or the same prompt when trying to empty trash. How do I stop CS4 from opening ID files short of removing the entire install? CS4 on Leopard iMac G5. The only way to get back to normal is to reboot. Constantly.

  • Can't open file I saved previously--help please

    Hello all,
I completed a very long editing session, saved the file(in multiple locations for backup purposes). When i tried to open it today, i get the following error.
    [/Buffy/pro/3.0/MediaCore/ASL/Foundation/Make/Mac/../../Src/Mac/MacFile.cpp-943]
    About my computer:
    G5 Dual Core / Intel
    6 gb ram
    2 x 500 mb hard drives
    Thanks for your help.

How about using your "Auto Save" Project Files?

  • Adobe won't give me the option to 'open' files without saving.

I was not able to open .pdf files at all and realised that Adobe Reader had somehow 'gone' from my laptop. I have reinstalled the latest version but if I want to 'open' an attachment in n email it will only give me the option to 'Save' the file. I don't want to Save every file. Can someone please advise me how to get back the option to just ' open' the file?

I use Internet Explorer for my browser.
A/A - I have reinstalled the latest version of AdobeReader.
When I click an attachment to view it, the first option I am given is to 'save' the file, and then the next pop up message gives me the option to either 'open' or 'view file'. The thing is that I don't want to 'save' each file to my laptop to allow me to see it. I want to be able to merely 'open' the file to view aithout actually saving it first.
