Adding A Navigation Bar To A Template...

Hello!
I have created a Dreamweaver Template that only needs to have a navigation bar added to it for it to be completed. However, when I click on the area I would like to add it to, click on Insert --> Image Objects --> Navigation Bar, nothing happens.  What am I missing?
Thanks!

The option is there, but the dialog box does not appear.
Thanks!
I would attempt clearing the program cache and see if that does anything to bring back the dialogue box...

  • How can I create a navigation bar in the template so I can change the down state of a button on a page made from the template in DW3?

We're creating pages from a template in DW3. The template includes a header, footer and a navigation bar. We've made the navigation bar an editable region so that we can change the down state of the buttons on pages where it is required. However, when we make a new page from the template and try to change the behaviors of the buttons in the navigation bar it will not allow us to make those changes.

Have you considered using CSS styled text/list menus instead of image rollovers.  It isn't hard really and it's actually a much better choice for   web accessibility and for search engines to find and follow your links.   Here are some links to several CSS menu systems you can try:

  • Modifying a navigation bar in a template

My previous question was so muddled up that I found it hard
to understand the question. I will try again.
What I want to do is create a template with a navigation bar
    - in this nav bar, I will have several categories (buttons e.g.
    range 1, range 2, range 3, etc.)
can I add another category (range 4) to the original template
and when I do, will this update all pages that used the existing
    template?
all of the buttons are linking to other pages (which in turn
will have this naigation bar) - I hope this is a bit clearer.
Thanks for help so far - much appreciated.

If your navigation elements are not within editable regions,
    then changes to
them within the template WILL propagate to all current child
    pages.

  • How do i make a navigation bar for all pages

    Hi friends !
I want the same navigation bar to appear on all the web pages of my website. (As these are the common things that all the webpages will have). But I didn't find any option to use the navigation bar as a template.
Will I have to copy and paste the same navigation bar on all the pages (let's say 50 to 60 pages, I will have). It will be very tiresome and tedious job to do.
And also if I make even a minor change in the navigation bar then I will have to change it in all 50-60 pages.
    What should I do ?
Please help me in this regard.
Imagine a 100 or 200 page site, perfectly functioning and on the air. Then, one day, you need to add or delete some button, or simply change a link. You need to change the menubar in ALL 200 pages, and then re-publish them all. Quite a work, ah ?
    Regards,
    Jtechmiami

Although Dreamweaver Templates and Library items are suitable tools for doing this, they're tedious and cumbersome at best. They get old very quickly.
By far the most efficient method is to set your navigation bar up as a Server Side Include (SSI).
SSIs are not Dreamweaver specific, they're a general web technology available on any server.
    A good primer here
    http://www.projectseven.com/products/menusystems/pmm2/ug-examples/includes/index.htm
Do you already have a hosting account? Does it have PHP available?

Not with SSIs. Simple sitewide menu updates take a few seconds.
You edit a single text file locally (either button labels or a CSS rule for styling the button), upload (1-2 seconds) and every page on the site is instantly updated.
    Much better than DW Templates.

  • Image Object Navigation Bar

    Hi.
I am using DWCS3 to insert the navigation bar into my
templates. Everything is woorking smoothly, except one little
    problem.
My navigation bar contains rollever images are in different
colors (e.g., red, blue, green) Home | Contact | About Us.
When I clicked on About Us, I would like the rollerover
button stay pressed down (green), so I know that I am visiting the
    page.
Does anyone know what I need to tweak to get it to work like
    I mentioned above?
    thanks.

I am finding browsers like IE6 increasingly impossible to
work with, every error that dreamweaver seems to report for browser
compatability seems to be because of this. As far as I know there
is no simple way around this, I will be watching this thread to see
what others have to say though!
I have seen when looking at HTML some site's have a <IF
IE6> or something along them lines, can anyone shed anymore
    light?

  • Navigation Bar Image

    Hello,
Is there a way to display the image of the navigation bar entry on the top instead of in line
with the text? I tried several things with my moderate html knowledge but didn't get it
    working.
    Denes Kubicek

Edit your page template and change the "Navigation Bar Entry" attribute.
This is an example of a navigation bar entry sub template:
    <td valign="top">#TEXT#</td><td valign="top">
    <img src="#IMAGE_PREFIX#themes/theme_9/separator.png"/>
    </td>
If you are using a theme upgraded from a 1.5 version of HTML DB this page template attribute may not be supplied; however if you use a 1.6 or 2.0 theme it should be populated.
You have another alternative as well; you can use an HTML DB list to build a navigation bar. You will need to put a region display position in your page template where you have your nav bar; then you can create a list on page 0 and it will show on all pages.

  • Navigation bar and text next to it, how?

Hello all, this is my first time building a page with
dreamweaver, and I'm really enjoying learning how to use it. So
far, I have been able to figure everything out well enough, however
I have now hit a point from where I cannot continue without help.
I have added a navigation bar/table to the left side of my
page, how to I get the program to let me add text directly to the
right of my bar? Right now, when I try to add text, the default
location is below the navigation bar (which, again, is down the
left side of my page). Any help at all would be appreciated. So,
    thanks in advance!

I never use text wrap because of the IE problem.
When using separate boxes, make sure that none of them are touching or overlapping and that you use a web-safe font.
I would doubt very much that inserting an image into a text box impairs the ability of the spiders to read the text - they just don't "see" the image which is why you should describe it in the adjacent text or with a separate caption.
For SEO purposes, I would do both. For example, if you have a photo of a car, the caption would give its make/model/year etc and the adjacent text would describe the features that viewers would be likely to enter into a search.

  • Bug with template + navigation bar

    Greetings...
I have created a site with DW CS3 and like many others before
me, i can't edit a navigation bar added to the editable area of a
    page that uses my template.
I can create one and save everything but i can't modify
    afterward.
I always get the "making this change would require changing
code that is locked by a template..." window.
    Thanks for any help

It's quite simple, but we would need to know how you have
    built your
navigation, and what your skill level is with HTML and CSS
    first. Can you
post a link to the page, and tell us how well you know the
    underlying
    technology?

  • Adding a button before the TOC button in a WebHelp Pro navigation bar

My client wnats to add a "Home " button to the left of the TOC button in the navigation bar. I can ad buttons to the right of the "standard buttons": TOC, Search, Print, and Glossary, but even if I go and edit the skn file and add the "Home" botton before the TOC one, it still displays to the right. Is there anything I am missing?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
I don't have RH Server, so this is a bit of a guess but I think one method will work.
Modify the toolbar order in whstart.js.
    1. In whstart.js, go to line 184 (RH10), it has the text else if (nMsgId == WH_MSG_TOOLBARORDER).
    2. Below the opening bracket add the following code:
    oMsg.oParam = "CUSTOM|toc|glo|idx|fts|blackblock|searchform|banner";
    return false;
    3. Open whskin_tbars.htm and go to the bottom of the file to find a few calls starting with addButton.
    4. Copyt the id of the button (customxxxx) and replace the text CUSTOM in whstart.js.
    Modify whskin_tbars.htm
    1. Open whskin_tbars.htm
    2. Go to the bottom of the file and find a few calls starting with addButton.
    3. Set the lines in the order you want the buttons to appear. (Don't forget the 'blankblock' button to push certain content to the right of the toolbar.
    4. Remove the call to the function ReSortToolbarButtons() from the file whskin_tbars.js.
If WebHelp does still resort the buttons, try adding return false; as the first code in the function ReSortToolbarButtons() in the file whtbar.js
    Hope this helps,
    Greet,
    Willam

  • Adding Content To the Top-Level of Navigation bar ?

    Hi,experts ,
i have a problem with adding content to the top-level of navigation bar ?
I have the authority of administration.I have added a customizing role with the entry-point property to myself userid . I have checked my navigation-target page's property can be visible in top-level navigation. I checked my my display level is set as 2 .
However ,i dont get the folder content at the top-level navigation.Anyway, when i check the delta link trace, there is no folder that connect to my role .
       Anyone helps me out ?
    Thanks in Advance .

    Hi Eleanor,
If you already created a role with an entry point and assigned it directly to you user, you may just have to refresh the portal page. You may also check the authorizations of you role.

  • Altering text on 'template' navigation bars

Is there any way in iWeb 9 to alter the text - font, color, size - in the template navigation bars. I remember it wasn't possible in earlier versions.
I know I can create my own navigation bar, but then there is no automatic process when building the separate pages (other than hand copying the navigation bar from page to page).
    All ears,
    Ben

It can be done, but it means altering javascript code - how are you at doing that?
Do a search of the site and there have been lots of questions relating to how to alter the page template nav bars over the past month - lots should come up and just have a look at the code that has been posted.
You either do this or build your own text based nav bar. I know it is a little more fiddly but does not really take that long - I build my own all the time for both my sites and I don't find it time consuming - you can always just build one page and duplicate to save time.

  • Error adding Navigation bar to Library

I've created a navigation bar that does not use a table, and
I want to add it to the Library, but when I attempt to do that, I
receive an error "Making this change would require changing code
that is locked by a template or a translator. The change will be
discarded", and although an item is created in the Library, there
is no code in the original document showing conversion to a Library
item. If I then try to insert this Library item into another page
into which another Library item, such as a copyright and last date
changed item, I receive the same error message as when I tried to
create the Library item in the first place. If I delete the
copyright/date changed Library item, then I can insert the
Navigation bar from the Library, and then I can reinsert the
copyright/date changed item, and everything appears to work.

    page and its
code. Can you post a link to one of these pages, please?

  • Adding ana archive page with a link in the Navigation bar

I am really new to all this so don't think that I'm a 'tard. I am building a blog on '06 and I like most of what I can do, but I can't figure out a couple of things. My current blog is with Godaddy (pronounced blow-daddy) and with that blog I have archives, recent entries and a calendar. Is there any way that I can duplicate that here? If not, how about just adding a blank page that I use for archives. I know that I already have one but I can't seem to make it visible in the navigation bar. Any help?

No, you have to have a page for it to show up in navbar.
The work around is to use refresh tag to redirect to your email address, here is how:
    http://www.geocities.com/[email protected]/Test/Front.html
    1) make a Front page
    2) make a Contact page, link Contact page to Front page's navbar
    3) editing Front page: search for href="Contact.html" change to target="_blank" href="Contact.html"
    4) copy contents of index.html
    5) editing Contact page: replace contents of Contact the contents of index.html
    6) search for http-equiv="refresh" content="0;url= some page.html" change it to http-equiv="refresh" content="0;url=mailto:[email protected]"
    7) add the following to the end of Contact.html
    <script language="Javascript">
    <!--
    setInterval("window.close()",2000);
    -->
    </script>
