Adding a new device to my current itunes account

Hi,
I am very frustrated my husband bought me a iPad 2 yesterday.  I already have a itunes account with my current Ipod how do I synch itunes with my new device.
I have connected it to the computer opened Itunes but nothing no device comes up at all.
What am I missing I have wasted 2 hours already and no further advanced. I thought it would have picked it up and walked me through the process but so far nothing.  I can't even manually go to synch as it isn't showing to choose.
I tried downloading a newer version of iPod software thinking this was the issue but it froze and I had to pull the plug.  I have heaps of memory in my computer so that isn't the reason.
HELP

If you haven't even activated the device yet - I'm not sure what to do - but I think you will have to do some experimenting.
iTunes should recognize the device - under normal circumstances - and then walk you through the process like you said.
Make sure that you are running the latest veriosn of iTunes - 10.5.3 is the most current now. You said you downloaded the latest version of iPod software but that doesn't make sense if the iPad is not being recognized - unless you just mean that you downloaded it but it has not installed yet.
So .... Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Quit iTunes if it is running, and reboot your PC. Turn off your firewall and disable any security software that you may be running.
Then connect the iPad to the PC again and see if it will recognize it and start the activation process.

  • How do I add my NEW iPod to my current iTunes account?

**Let me just start by saying, iPod's don't swim.**
*Bought a used one from a friend.*
    *2 Questions:*
*1. How do I add this new nano to my current iTunes account?*
*2. How do I take off the music files on the "new" one?*
    TIA!

if you just plug it in to your computer i believe it should give you the option of who's songs and other info to keep, or download.

  • I have 5 devices authorized to my itunes account. 2 of them crashed but I am unable to authorize my new pc. From what I can see it looks like I may have to "deauthorize all" and then re authorize my current devices? Please help!

I have 5 devices authorized to my itunes account. 2 of them crashed long ago.  Now that I have a new pc, I am unable to authorize it.  I think from what I've read that I should "deauthorize all" and then go back and authorize my current 3 devices.  Is this correct?  I have tons of music and need to make sure I won't lose anything.  I would sure appreciate the help!  Thanks!!!

    No that is not correct.
Devices do not count toward the 5.  Authorization is only for computers, not iphone/ipod/ipad/Apple tv.
You do not authorize or deauthorize devices at all.
If you have reached the limit of 5 authorized COMPUTERS, then deauthorize all and the authorize the active COMPUTERS.

  • I registered my new iPhone 5s to my usual Apple ID, however it isn't showing in my devices when I log in. I tried to register it by adding a new device, but it tells me it's already registered to a different Apple ID. I'm really not sure how to fix this.

I registered my new iPhone 5s to my usual Apple ID, however it isn't showing in my devices when I log in. I tried to register it by adding a new device, but it tells me it's already registered to a different Apple ID. I'm really not sure how to fix this. I only have the one Apple ID and the phone is brand new, purchased directly from Apple.
When I check on the phone itself (iCloud and App Store settings) the Apple ID is correct. I'm not sure where else to check.
Whilst setting up the phone, it prompted me to register, which I did. Then when connecting to my laptop through iTunes it prompted me again so I registered again. I even got a confirmation email to the email address associated with my Apple ID that the registration was successful.
How can I add my iPhone 5s to the list of devices on the correct Apple ID?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

It is easy to download items you have purchased from iTunes again; this article will walk you through it: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519
You want the "Apps on iOS" section.

  • HT1766 can I back up my new device with both icloud & itunes

Can I restore my new device from both itunes and icloud ?

    You've asked 2 different questions.
can i back up my new device with both icloud & itunes
You can set it up to backup to iCloud. Once you've done this you can back it up to iTunes on your computer manually, so technically, yes. You can back it up to both.
Can I restore my new device from both itunes and icloud ?
If you have backed up a device to both, then you can restore either one. Restoring completely overwrites the contents of the phone, so if you restore it from iCloud, then restore it from iTunes, the data you restored from iCloud will be wiped from the phone and replaced with the data you restored from iTunes. The only way to initiate a restore from iCloud is to wipe the phone and start the iCloud restore from the setup wizard...
Now, maybe you'd like to re-state your question so that you get the answer you're actually looking for instead of answers that correctly address what you asked, but do not address what you meant to ask.

There is no 5 device limit.  There is a 5 computer limit.

  • How to set up iTunes on new Mac if already have iTunes account on old PC

I got a new iMac and started an iTunes account and hooked up my iPhone.  Now it says that I can only use my iPhone on 1 computer and I would need to erase my current iPhone and sync it with the empty new ITunes account. How do I make my new computer the one that I want to use?  My old IBM doesn't work anymore.  I don't want to lose all of my things.  Thank you.

  • HT201304 It would be tremendously helpful to be able to access, set restrictions, and make changes from the parents device to all devices under the same iTunes account, so that I could make changes to my kids devices without physical access.

    Please help!
It would be tremendously helpful to be able to access, set restrictions, and make changes from the parents device, to all devices under the same iTunes account, so that I could make changes to my kids devices without physical access.
I understand that I can set up a different Apple ID for the kids devices, or take physical control of the device and make the changes myself. However, my teenage son is technically savvy enough to have a job in Silicon Valley, as are most young people these days. However, in order to access his devices the current way, I first have to bypass the four digit pass code. This starts a fight of why I need in the device and continues to escalate. The argument that I am the parent will gain access but the fight is simply exhausting, and quite frankly shouldn't have to happen at all. He is not yet an adult, he did not pay for his iPad or iPhone and I, as a parent, should have not only have the right to change options at will, and from anywhere, but look at history or current activity when I feel like it.
I currently have the settings where app and in-app purchases require my password to be put in, and he must come to me to type it in, but I need more control and would like, and should be able to access any of our six devices and make individual changes simply by logging in to my account, with my password.
If I can see all my devices on the "Lost My iPhone" app, this technology should be easy to make happen.
C'mon parents! I have a pretty good kid, given all things that they can get into, but I am not stupid. For everything I see has been done, there is much more I haven't seen. I want my children to be kept safe and be able to know what they are looking at or listening to. We parents are the only ones who know our beliefs and what our kids can handle and when.
Thanks for any support or information that I may be missing in order to fulfill my request.

There are mobile device management solutions that can do this, including in Apple's OS X Server system, but most parents generally find that setting this up is more work than it's worth. If you're interested, though, there are a couple that at least purport to be free (I don't know if there are any hidden "gotchas"):
    http://www.unwireddevicelink.com/features/
    https://meraki.cisco.com/products/systems-manager
    and Apple's system:
    http://www.apple.com/osx/server/features/#profile-manager
I don't think any, however, allow you to see current activity or browser history. iOS doesn't expose those to access from MDM solutions, to the best of my knowledge.
    Regards.

  • How can I tell how many devices are connected my itunes account via icloud?

How can I tell how many devices are connected my itunes account via icloud?

I only know what it says in the article.  There it specifically says "iOS device" and it says. "You can view which devices or computers are  currently associated," and, "Next to each device or computer name, you will be able to see when each was associated to your Apple ID."  However, this is all in the context of, "When you turn on iTunes Match or Automatic Downloads, or when you download past purchases on an iOS device or computer, that device or computer becomes associated with your Apple ID."  I guess if somebody simply logs in it won't show.

It won't show up on your Apple TV until it is fully downloaded into iTunes on your computer, have you done this.

  • HT1311 can you see which device bought something on iTunes where you have multiple devices on the same iTunes account?

is there any way to find out which device dowloaded apps when you have multiple devices using the same itunes account?

The purchase information does not include the device used, but does include the Apple ID used for the purchase.
Apps downloaded on one device with the same Apple ID can be downloaded on another device with that Apple ID.

Unless you subscribe to iTunes Match, iCloud doesn't sync music.  Just set up every person's devices on a separate iCloud account and your iCloud data and photo stream will remain separated.  Each iCloud account will need a separate ID, but it does not need to be the same as your iTunes ID.  You can continue to share the same iTunes ID and maintain separate iCloud accounts with separate IDs for iCloud.
You'll also want to use separate IDs for each person for iMessage and FaceTime.  This will keep your text messages and FaceTime called separated as well.  The easiest way to do this is to have everyone use their iCloud ID for these two services as well.
