Adding a new Epson scanner to Photoshop CS5.1 on LION computer

We just recently (today, in fact) installed a new Epon flatbed scanner on an iMac running MAC OS 10.7.2.  It already had Adobe Photoshop CS5.1 on it.  It seems that no matter what we do, when we click on File on go to Import, the scanner option is not there.  I am not an experienced Photoshop user (or an experienced Mac person), I am going by what the end user tells me should be there and how its supposed to work.  She needs to be able to scan from the new scanner in Photoshop.  Is there documentation somewhere that tells us how to get Photoshop to "see" the scanner.
The computer is a brand new (a month old) iMac that came with LION.  We had to replace to replace the old scanner becsause it was not supported in LION (supposedly the one we just bought is).

Are there scanners out there that Photoshop CS5.1 version 12.1 for Macintosh will just recognize without all the intervention by an I.T. person.  Will Photoshop allow scanning from within the application with any scanner?  (the user thinks we should just get another scanner)
It's important to understand that scanning into Photoshop is not directly between Photoshop and the scanner (hardware). The entire process depends on what scanning software mediates between Photoshop and the scanner. Photoshop just sits there and waits for software to hand it an image. The scanner just sits there and waits for some software to ask for a scan. So it should not be necessary to change the scanner itself. Instead, try changing the scanning software.
When the software that comes with the scanner doesn't do what someone wants, sometimes they turn to third-party scanning software. I use VueScan, which has historically run as a separate application, but recently added the option to be launched from within Photoshop as a plug-in and return the image straight into Photoshop, just like she wants. As long as your scanner is on the supported list, this is a possible solution. But it'll cost a little money.
VueScan is an good example of how critical software is to scanning. Many people use VueScan to get around limitations of the bundled software. Sometimes they want more features than the scanner's own software came with. Sometimes they need it because the bundled software no longer works in the latest Mac or Windows OS, so it lets people keep running old scanners for many more years, instead of having to buy a new one.

  • Problem printing with Epson 3800 and Photoshop CS5

I came across a problem trying to print with my Epson 3800 in Photoshop CS5.  I recently upgraded to Photoshop CS 5 (and Lightroom 3).  I tried to print using my Epson 3800 with CS5 but could not adjust Print Settings, Color Mamagement, Paper Configuration, Expand Border because those options are unavailable and there is a line crossing through them. I get a message that says "The bundle 'Print Setting' could not be loaded because it does not contain a version for the current architecture".   It then says to contact the creator listed here for the latest version: PrintSetting version 3.57, Copyright SEIKO EPSON CRP 2001-2006.   I can print through Photoshop CS4 as usual, but CS5 is a problem.  I haven't tried printing though Lightroom 3 yet, and have not typically used Lightroom to print, but I wonder if that will be a problem too?
    Any help will be appreciated.

If you run CS5 or LR as a 32bit application you will have all these option available to you. You can then save these options as presets that can then be applied when you are running the applications in 64bit mode even if you can not access them individually.
Also you might want to check Epson's download site especially the European site to see if there are newer drivers or updates for your printer. The newest drivers for other printers like the 7600/9600 support application running in 64bit mode.

Just to confirm, you're in the App Store application on your computer, not in iTunes, correct? And you're logged into the Mac App Store using the same account via which you purchased FCP?

Nothing wrong with leaving CS5 installed and having both available to you.
You can still run CS5 if you have Cloud versions installed.
    Bottom-line: it's up to you.

The Adobe engineers report that Lion has many problems they can't fix.  Check the Adobe forums for details.

  • Twain Drivers Are Not Recognizing my LiDE 100 Scanner in Photoshop CS5?

This is my first post, mainly becuase I'm stumped on every front to this problem, just bought myself a new 17" Macbook Pro the other day and immediately started to update all my drivers, through on Photoshop CS5 among a few other CS5 programs, but this is where things got hairy...
Since this is a 64 bit intel mac (Snow Leapord) , I went over and decided to download the TWAIN plugin, dropped it in the Import/Export plugins folder, went to the Adobe Photoshop app folder and happily clicked boot as 32 bit... aaaaand... NOTHING.  It didn't see my scanner, and my scanner is a Canoscan LiDE 100, not that old.  I've already had success doing this with Win 64 bit as long as I opened a 32 bit version of Photoshop, but no luck so far on the Mac.  The scanner works fine with Image Capture so I know that he scanner is alive.
I've tried rebooting, finding other TWAIN plugins, even out of curiosity I've toggled between 32 and 64 bit Photoshop to see if the Scanner could be recognized.  I know I could scan using Image capture, but I'd rather get this problem sorted out.  I know that in some cases people boot using Rosetta, but this scanner isn't that old so I don't think that would be the problem.
If anyone has any advice, it would be greatly appreciated, and I realize that sometimes the most simple answer is the one that's the most easily overlooked, and I'm hoping that's the case.
    Thanks everyone!

Scanning with TWAIN has become increasingly buggy.
Why not just use the Epson scanner software that came with the scanner?
That way you can continue to use Photoshop while using Epson to scan.
There are more features available from Epson than with Image Capture.
However, if you feel the need to use TWAIN, here is the link for Mac CS5 plugin.
Five seconds with Google would get you this:

  • How can i import my scanner into Photoshop CS5?

    Hi.
I have just installed Photoshop CS5 for Windows. I went to import my scanner (Epson Lide 500F) and it's not showing up.
I have reinstalled it, but it still doesn't show up.
Do i need to save it into a particular PS file? At the moment it's going into the Programmes file.
    Thank you

Photoshop CS5 doesn't ship with a TWAIN scanner interface installed, because it sometimes causes problems due to buggy drivers.  It does have a WIA scanner capability; that your scanner does not show up may mean that the drivers for that particular model are not being actively updated by the manufacturer of the scanner.
You can install the optional Twain plug-in into Photoshop CS5 32 bit only, which may get you the functionality you need:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/405/kb405072.html
Failing all of the above, you may need to get a new scanner.  I have had to buy three myself over the history of Photoshop releases since the '90s simply because of cessation of support.  It is the way it is.
    Hope this helps.

  • Can't find scanner in Photoshop CS5

Recently, I have had to upgraded to a new Mac Pro /Tower & also had to upgrade all my programs/ apps. I can't seem to get my scanner to work through Adobe Photoshop CS5. [I have a CanoScan LiDE 30.]
I've downloaded all upgrades and have read about similar problems other users have had (on other discuss sites). I came across a discussion about a missing plug-in CS5 was missing.
From the Adobe website, I downloaded, what was said to be the missing plug-in [PSCS5OptionalPluginsMac_enUS] and have tried placing it in different folders all over the place (with restarts) & it either is in the wrong place(s) or its just crap.
Does anyone know which folder this plug-in goes or knows anything about it?
In the mean time I down loaded the canon toolbox (from the Canon website) and have been scanner to the desktop. It works, but there is no extras, just a scan and at optional dpi's.
If anyone else has had this problem, please let me know if you were able to fix it.
OR if you know of a scanner that works well in CS5. THX!!

TWAIN scanner drivers are still supported in Photoshop CS5, but the TWAIN support plugin is no longer installed by default.
You need to do the following:
    • Go to the Adobe website. In the Download section, look for Photoshop CS5 updates.
    • Download the "Photoshop CS5 12 Optional plugins" file for your language version of Photoshop.
    • Once the download is complete, double-click the "CS5Optional_PlugInsInstaller.dmg" file.
    • Double-click the file "CS5 Optional Plug-Ins.mxp". The Adobe Extensions Manager will launch and the install process will start.
    • When it is finished, quit the Adobe Extensions manager.
    • Launch Photoshop CS5.
If the scanner driver is still not visible in the Import menu, your scanner driver may not be 64bit compatible. In this case:
    • Right-click on the Photoshop CS5 application icon and select "Get Info".
    • In the information window, check the box that says "Run in 32 bit mode".
This solved the scanner problem for me.

  • Will photoshop CS5 work with Lion

I need to get a new photoshop, mine is out of date. Will Photoshop CS5 work with OS 10.7.2? Adobe doesn't include 10.7.2 in their tech specs.

  • Photoshop CS5.1 and Lion Server (MacMini Mid 2011)

    Hello community,
I have a very big problem using Photoshop CS5.1 (Mac Mini Server-Edition Mid 2011, Lion 10.7.2) - there are several mouse-pointer issues when I try to work with brushes or stamps. Depending on the size of the brush it's not shown the correct way. The icon does not show the brush itself and when I try to use the brush the mouse pointer is not the center of the brush but the uper left corner. If I zoom into the image it's possible that the same brush is working the way it should be but if I zoom out the brush does not work again. The issue seems to depend on brush size and zoom-factor of the image.
My idea for better understanding of the problem was to record the screen activity with QuickTime. I did but as I watched the recorded photoshop activity looked perfect (allthough it did not as I recorded the actions). Now I recorded the screen activity with a movie camera, just to show, what's wrong here. Please excuse the not so perfect video quality...
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZzLJFDOWLWo
    It's annoying.
Very similar problem in Lightroom, mouse pointer do not work the correct way depending on brush size (brish icon is not shown in image depending on size).
Adobe does not offer support for the Server-Edition. Apple does not allow to install 10.6 on Mac Mini Mid 2011 (on my MBP Early 2011 PS CS 5.1 runs without such problems). Something's going wrong here.
I need a solution, Photoshop CS5.1 is not useable under 10.7.2 Server. Anyone may help?
    Thank you.
    André

    Hello Doug,
thank you for your answer. First of all: Adobe says that it's an Apple problem. Apple says that I'm not allowed to install any other OS than Lion Server on my machine - even the "normal" Lion OS seems to be not allowed.
For me as a customer this situation is not very satisfying - I try to run a 1500$ software suite on a 1000$ Apple computer and it does not work, but nobody even tries to solve this issue. Adobe offers no support, Apple offers no bug fixes.
This problem, btw, also appears when a MacBook Air is used. Even some MacBook Pros seem to be unable to run Phootshop CS5.1 under Lion. For me this does not look like an Lion server-issue.

  • Printing on epson cold press bright paper with Epson 2200 in Photoshop CS5

The printer is old. Epson chooses neither to support it, nor does it seem to have anyone in their tech support knowledgeable about paper profiles. The paper is the whitest of white, and a bit thicker and stiffer than any of the usual watercolor papers i have been using for years by the likes of Hannemuele and Arches.  The profile that came with this paper is actually made for an Epson 3880 printer, I suspect because the 2200 is no longer supported by Epson.
Usually with any new unsupported paper, I'll experiment within the photoshop print and profile settings, and eventually jerryrig something that looks decent. However, this particular paper is quite expensive, so before I waste a bunch of it, I thought maybe someone on this forum could offer some advise. I have tried printing with it only once so far, using the Apple (1998) profile with Photoshop in charge of printing. The result was that it "almost" works, except the red or oranges won't print at all, and instead, they both print as yellow. I also noticed that the paper ran through the printer much too quickly, as if it wasn't printing all of it.
Immediately after this test, I ran my usual watercolor paper through the printer with the same settings. it printed true, AND, significantly, it took 3 times as long to get the paper all the way through the printer.
Can someone here offer me any guidance? My own next (blind) choice would be to try the Epson 3880 profile that's made for this 13X19 inch paper, and also let the printer control the colors. But what about all the other settings? blackpoint? colormetric? all that stuff. Any help is much appreciated.
One other thing. Even with this throw-away test print, i can tell that the EWpson cold press bright is something special. Both the detail and the color (those colors that were true) were very deep indeed.

Well, my Epson 2200 may be old but it normally does a fantastic job on any paper I throw at it—provided the target profile is accurate and tailored for your particular unit.
It's not clear to me who supplied the target profile you are using to print on that Epson Cold Press Bright Paper, but I'm unaware of of Epson ever having offered a target profile specifiocally for using that paper on the 2200.
Frankly, I never even attempt to use any given photographic paper on my 2200 for which I don't have a custom profile for that specific combination of paper, ink and exact printer model.
My advise is to have a professionally generated profile made by one of the several excellent commercial profiling services that send you one or more target images to print on your printer and then you sent them your prints for them to generate the specific profile by using the best available  colorimeter.
Using a profile made for a different printer model borders on the absurd, in my opinion.  The least I would accept is a standard profile made by the paper manufacturer on a range of units of that specific printer model, and I would still not be as comfortable as with a specific profile derived from target-image prints made for my particular 2200 unit.
The prices for this service vary widely from one service outfit to another one, and some are very reasonable (try Inkjetart<===click*  for the $25 price range, for instance).  In most instances, it can be considerably cheaper than the amount of wasted ink and paper from repeated and futile trial-and-error attempts to get an optimal print from your 2200.
    * I have no connection to Inkjetart whatsoever,

  • New 8core mac pro, photoshop CS5 running slow

    Hi all
I recently decided to switch from PC to MAC. I used to work on a quad core Dell XPS 710 which was very good but decided that an 8core mac would improve the performance of my work flow.
My new mac is a 2x2.26 quad core xeon with 8 gigs of ram and running the latest Mac OS. The computer itself runs fine but photoshop seems very laggy doing simple tasks such as moving images on layers etc. I've tried allocating up to 85% of the memory to photoshop in the preferences but nothing seems to make any difference.
At the moment I would say it runs at 3-4times slower than my old PC which seems madness to me
Any help, tips or advice would be much appreciated
    Thanks
    Trevor

Yes, something is wrong if it is running slower.
Did you install the 12.0.1 update?
Have you tried disabling third party plugins?
Have you tried updating your wacom tablet drivers?
Have you tried font cleanup as suggested in the other topics on slowdowns?
