Adding a New Song on Different Computer, without losing current library

I would like to add a single song to my Ipod and am currently using a computer that is not my usual computer. I normally have my Ipod (a 120 gb classic) set to automatically synch on my Itunes on my usual computer. If I were to download Itunes on this computer to add a single song to my Ipod here, what is the way to make sure that it does not automatically synch to this computer & thus delete/lose my current library? I know there is a way to just make a few changes/additions without having it automatically synch it all & am looking for the answer as to how to do that.

The only way to sync content from multiple computers is to set your iPod up to "manually manage music and videos" by enabling this option from under your iPod's Summary tab in iTunes. However, you can only enable this option on the original computer you set the iPod up with. Otherwise the option will be grayed out.
Other than that, there is no other way to add the single song without erasing your currently library on your iPod. A possible, but not a recommended solution in any way, is to copy all the content from your iPod to the second computer, then erase and restore via iTunes, then sync all the old and new content to the iPod. Just an option, because other than that there are none. Sorry.

Yes. Your iPod is designed to sync with only one iTunes library at a time, meaning that when you try to sync it with a new library, it will erase everything that is currently on the iPod and replace it with what is in the new library.
So the first thing you are going to want to do is copy everything from your iPod back to your PC first using one of the methods described in this older post from another forum member Zevoneer.

quit iPhoto on both computers and connect the two computers together (network, firewire target mode, etc) - if the target computer has an iPhoto library that you want to save rename it (Dads iphoto library maybe) ad drag the iPhoto library form the pictures folder (the default location) of your computer to the pictures folder of your dad's - to switch between two libraries on a Mac launch iPhoto while depressing the option (alt) and use the select library option - or download iPhoto Library Manager to do it on the fly - and to be able to easily move photos between libraries

my phone randomly "deleted" all of my music. It all shows up in itunes when I plug it into a computer. The only problem is MY compuer is currently out of commision and wont be fixed for at least a month. What Im trying to do is plug it into my friends computer and get music from her iTunes but when i go to move over specific songs a little window pops up that says my iphone can only be synced with 1 itunes at a time and that the current content will be erased if i do this. Im just not sure if this means all of the music content or all of the content including apps, pictures, etc.
all i need to know is how can i put music onto my iphone from someone elses itunes without losing my pictures or affecting any other content on my phone?

Did they change that or is it just that way for iphone? because I know when i had an Ipod classic.. or whatever theyre called.. I could definitely get music from mulitple computers. I had music from at least 4 different itunes accounts when I had that ipod.

Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself independently backed up against loss. To use a device with a new computer you transfer the content from the old computer (or its backup) directly to the new computer, not the device to the new computer. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.

If you only have iTunes Store purchases transfer them to the computer, then erase sync them back again. Either that or transfer the iTunes library to which the phone is actually synced. Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings: Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive. Open iTunes and immediately hold down the option (alt) key (shift on Windows) so you get a prompt to select a library, then guide it to the 'iTunes Library.itl' file in the moved iTunes folder.
If this is to a new computer and you put the copied iTunes folder in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there. (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)

I usually use the iPod with my G5 at home. Last time I travelled I tried charging the iPod with the USB cable and my laptop. Unfortunately, it decided to use the library of iBook.
I know there is a setting for manually updating, etc. Isn't that option only available when the iPod is plugged into the computer? I would rather do it now while I am at home then on my trip and lose my tracks.

Since you have a fifth generation iPod and a machine with FireWire ports, you can do this by plugging it in through the FireWire connection; that iPod will charge but not sync through FireWire. Otherwise, set the iPod to update manually when it is hooked up to the main machine, or use these instructions to change the synchronization mode.

Yes, if you choose the Erase and Sync option (or restore your iPod) you will be allowed to sync your iPod with the new computer.

Theaftr transfering the stuff, restore the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod and then sync.
If you can move the iPod backup file to the new computer you can restore from backup.

I just found out my incredibly stubborn teenager's iphone hasn't been backed up at all since last spring. Her old 3gs was previously synced with my computer, but I thought she was syncing her 4 with her own macbook - evidently not. Well I've got them in itunes, no problem, but I can't get them on her phone because it says it is synced to another computer. The only computer it could have been synced to is my old computer which is no more. How can I get these songs on her iphone? If I back up her phone in itunes and then restore from the backup I'm afraid it will lose something and she will freak out. I mean the world will end if she loses a single text message from last year. Can it be done? And if it can, I need step by step, idiot-proof instructions so I don't mess anything up. My husband says if she will get it to back up to icloud, it will automatically sync the songs from her laptop? Is that right? Or does it still need to be synced to itunes on that computer?
