Adding a photo gallery to a blog page?

I see the last queries about being able to do this are from 2006.  I'm wondering if it is any easier now.  I'm creating a website for a film series project.  I used a 'blog' template so I could easily manage about 20 separate films (without having scores of pages to deal with).  Right now each of those 'blog' pages has a large number of free floating photos (shots from the film).  They take too long to load.  I'm wondering if I could create a photo gallery instead, ON the blog entry page, that would contain the pics, and allow for fast loads?
Just wondering how one might create a photo gallery on a 'blog' entry page.
Ben

Having looked at your site, I would say that you layout is very artistic and would be completely ruined by using a photos template.
DPI doesn't realy come into it as this is used for print. iWeb does have image optimization but its better to turn it off and reduce the image to the dimensions (in px) that it will appear on the web page before dragging it into the app.
If you want to maximise the SEO and make the pages more interesting for us humans, I would add descriptive captions to the images and put them in the spaces between the staggered image layout.
If you are comtemplating designing for mobile devices, you need to use every trick in the book to to reduce file sizes and cut content to the bone.
I have been using responsive designs for quite a while now and learned a lot of hard lessons along the way on what works and what doesn't on mobile devices. Some more examples HERE.
iPads are big enough for a traditional website to work on them as long as you pay attention to making the links and other user controls finger sized. I did figure out a way to make an iPhone compatible site using iWeb if you are interested...

I must admit that I detest Wordpress although there are some responsive desgns available now. I did a test with one of the free ones but its a total pain and there doesn't appear to be any plugins for HTML5, responsive media players. I had to figure this out all on my own. If you click the Blog button on this page you should get there.

  • Adding a photo gallery loses the editable region

Hello I have a test site that I am road testing for my client and have noticed a slight problem when adding a photo gallery. When a photo gallery is added to a page the once editable region then loses it’s editable status. When I take the page back in Dreamweaver the div is still showing as editable but this is not the case when using incontext editing.
Any help would be most welcome
    thanks
    Martin

It is a module, there is nothing to edit, the content isa  module generation which renders the gallery based on its paramaters. In the case of a gallery you go add the images into the folder, give them captions in the admin if you wish and depending on the CSS setup you have they render.
I personally teach no client to use that editor, everything is through the admin with good web apps use and pages and good templates etc.

  • Need help in adding Cooliris photo gallery to premade web template.

    Hi,
I purchased a flash template that has nice effects. I would like to add Cooliris or a nice photo gallery page to the site. I contacted their help forum from where I bought the template and they say the effects are an embedded video that has to be custom editied, which I don't know how to do.
What do I need to do? Can I upload the template in this forum to show exactly what I mean? or, I can show you the sample template at:

            <p><a href="contactacs.htm"><img src="button.png" width="266" height="56" border="0" align="right" /></a></p>
    to this -
            <p><u>Welcome to Automated Compliance Solutions</u></p>
            <p><a href="yourlink.htm"><img src="yourbutton.png" width="266" height="56" border="0" align="right" /></a></p>
            <p><a href="contactacs.htm"><img src="button.png" width="266" height="56" border="0" align="right" /></a></p>
Be aware that my suggestion here is NOT valid XHTML, but since you are not a web developer, and the 'invalid' markup that I have suggested will not affect the rendering or operation of the page, I decided to keep it simple for you.  In my suggestion, "yourlink.html" refers to the page to which you want this button to link, and "yourbutton.png" refers to the filename of the button image (obviously you'd want to change this to correspond to the filename and extension of the image you have created).

  • Adding a photo gallery

Ater a search, I'm more confussed than ever. I have the site to the point where I'm ready to add photos.
I'm a photographer( I have PS cs2 and a trial DW CS4) I would like to display 5-10 photos on my index page in the form of an automated slide show. So that when a viewer comes they will see some samples of my work. I didn't know if it is ok to post links to examles of other sites on this form.
On my gallery page I would like to have my thumbnails across the bottom of the page so that the viewer can scan across the bottom and then click to enlarge the ones that they want to use. It doesn't have to be elaborate, I don't need music or popups, I just want to show the photos not all the magic of the website, if that makes sense.
Is this possible with these two products or will I need more?
Could someone point me to a tutorial?
In my search there seems to be this debate of the use of flash, could someone steer me in the right direction on it and if and why I would need it?
Please forgive me and my noobie-ness.
    Thank you

There are so many ways to do this... Dreamweaver itself has a "Create web photo album" under Commands on the menu. Fireworks has something similar. These pre-packaged solutions will not give you what you want. You can get the automated slide show for your home page without too much trouble with Flash. Take that "too much" with a little grain of salt. There is a pretty big learning curve for anything in Flash.
You might be able to  do the gallery page that way too, but  that's not at all straightforward. Odd as it might sound, Javascript is  a much easier way to go.
Is the idea of keeping file information in a database out of the question?
I am a photographer as well as a web designer so I've been dealing with these questions a lot. Take a look at http://www.secondsightimages.net and the Gallery link.

  • Adding a Photo Gallery to website

Does anybody know of any good, free, photo galleries that can
be embedded/added to a website in Adobe Contribute CS3?

Someone with a basic understanding of HTML/CSS/JS code can get the location of your images and download them, even if there is no direct way to download or save them from the site front end.
Since the path to your image is right there in the page code somewhere, you can only make it difficult to find, but not impossible to download for internet users.
    Hope that clarifies.

  • Photo gallery limited to 5 pages?

I have over 200 photos for some of my galleries. I would prefer to keep around 20 or so photos per page, but it seems iWeb limits the number of pages to 5, and it wont display the remaining photos. Is there a setting somewhere that tells it to limit it to 5 pages?

    Yea I'm retarted, I didn't notice the arrow ><

  • Problems displaying blog&photo gallery in Chrome

    Hi everyone,
I'm rather new to site-creating. I've made a site with 2 photo-galleries and one blog-page in iWeb and published it to a local folder on my mac. Before moving forward and dealing with ftp-client etc., I just tried to check the general view. I opened the htlm-file I've got in my site-folder in Google-Chrome, everything is perfect, except for those galleries and blog. They aren't there. The headings and text-blocks are where they should be, but galleries and the block with a photo and beginning of my article on the blog-page are lacking. I've checked the "media" folder, all the photos are there, but they are lacking in the html-file opened in Chrome. When I open my site in Safari, it's looking correctly.
Probably, I could try to make the same pages without galleries, just adding independent photos, text, hyperlinks etc.. But this will be a bit time-consuming and not a "beautiful" solution.
I haven't found any idea how to fix this problem, so I'm waiting for your ideas and help!!!
    Thank you in advance,
    Kira

Don't open local files in Chrome. A page may not display properly.
    Publish and then try again.
And if the pages look good in Safari they look good in any browser, except MSIE.
Remember, webpages are meant to be viewed on a webserver, not on the desktop.
    Or use your built-in webserver.

  • How can i optimize my SEARCH ENGINE???I use godaddy.i contact them and they give me this conclusion:Search engines are not pulling up your other pages on your website because it is created with javascript. the content on the pages, (photo gallery.....

    conclusion from godaddy:
Search engines are not pulling up your other pages on your website because it is created with javascript.
the content on the pages, (photo gallery, My Recipes/Blog, History, Friends) need to be formatted to HTML, PHP or CSS. No search engines (google, Yahoo, Bing) can crawl//analyze webpages built with javascript.
See if Apple allows iweb to create the pages in HTML format and ask how to make those changes.
I spend more then 1 hour on the phone with them but we didn't find the solution...
please i need help because like this nobody can rich my website...
    www.chefdiego.com
    thank you

The part of iWeb pages that give the search engines problem is the navbar.  That's javascript based.  One way to get around that is to create another blank page in the site that's not  included in the navbar.
Add a text based navbar in that page with just the other pages in the site.
Also you can use that page for creating the sitemap for Google at Create your Google Sitemap Online - XML Sitemaps Generator.
Have you let Google know your site exists? This website describes how to get it recognized: Get your iWeb website found in search engines like Google Yahoo MSN and Bing.

  • Photo gallery navigation Master/Detail

I am trying to make a photo gallery with Master/Detail pages
in one - which is working up to a point.
    I have 2 recordsets:
    - A: one with all records which displays thumbnail icons in a
    horizontal looper.
    - B: another with a single url-parsed value.
With the help of Tom Muck's Detail Page Navigation Suite, I
can have First/Prev?Next?Last navigation set to the recordset B
and I can have the full set of thumbs with links to the
    correct pic.
What I can't figure out is how to get the thumbnail icons to
have a 'Down' state based on the URL variable. I have tried onload
image swaps based on the dynamic id of the thumbnail images, to no
    avail.
    Any suggestions much appreciated.

what code are you using that's failing?  copy and paste only the relevant code, not all the code used in your app.

  • Scrolling photo gallery

I need to create a scrolling photo gallery on my web page, which programme would be best to use and instructions would be great. THanks

I would use a "jquery slider" or "jquery slideshow". You can do a search in Google for those phrases and come up with hundreds of free scripts to choose from, most with a "how to" to get them into your site.
If you want to use something integrated into DW's Design View interface, Project VII has a paid extension to allow you to do it.

  • Photo Gallery Grid style

Is there a way to have a photo gallery on a web page but in the style of a grid instead of a slideshow? Im going to have a lot of photos and would like my clients to be able to scroll through them all.
    Thanks

    Hello,
You can  either add the images individually or can use a Lightbox widget (if you wish to have the Lightbox effect).

  • Photo gallery able to reorganise into subcategories + adding new images via in-browser editing

    Hi,
I'm looking for a photo gallery which has the ability to reorganise the images displayed based on subcategories or tags. For example I want to add a gallery which contains photos of a clients projects. The client wants site visitors to be able to shuffle the gallery to view only for example "stone walls" or "timber decking". A tagging system would be handy rather than having to load the photos into each subcategory.
The other consideration is that my client needs to be able to add new images with tags using the in-browser via Business Catalyst. So far I have only succeeded in replacing existing images rather than adding new images.
Is there such a widget for Muse or are there anyother widgets for wordp-ress or other which could be embedded to tdo the job.
    Thanks in advance,
    Jimmy

    Hi Jimmy
If I am not wrong, basically you want to provide users an option to select category of images which they want to show up on page.
From Muse we cannot tag or categorize them , also photogallery module in BC does not provides this option, but there is a workaround with web apps.
You can create a web app and then web app items as images and then categorize them. On page insert the web app with categories drop down, so when users will select the category those web app items would be displayed on page. Additionally you can add custom fields in web app to search using keyword.
With editing , clients can login to BC admin and then using photogallery module or web app module ( if used ) to edit the images, add new ones. IBE cannot be used to add new ones but to replace existing ones.

  • Links get broken after adding photo gallery

I discovered a strange problem when creating a website with photo gallery.
I have a menubar with static links to all pages of the website which worked perfectly. Now after adding a photo grid the links of the my menubar are not clickable at all. This problem exists only if the photo thumbnail row is displayed. Do you have any ideas how to disable the thumbnail row automatically or any other workaround for this bug?

I have the same problem. Please see http://www.campfieldhouse.co.uk/Campfield_House/Gallery.html The page links 1, 2 and 3 just don't work. This is all coded automatically and there are no options for this. Thanks
