Adding a prefix to filename in Bridge / CS3

I need to batch-add a prefix only to existing filenames in Bridge, e.g. 15447.dng to become AR_15447.dng etc. I can't see how to place the prefix correctly in front of the filename - does anyone know?
Thanks,
Alex Ramsay

Yes, of course. Problem is, it adds the prefix after the filename (i.e. 15447AR_.dng). I can't see how to put the prefix at the front.

  • Adding metadata to .m1v files in Bridge CS3

I have video files (no audio) .m1v files that I need to tag with Metadata in bridge. One problem when I try to do this in Bridge CS3 version 2.1.1.9- I get an error message saying
"The file "filename.m1v" cannot store XMP metadata. No changes will occur"
Does anyone know of a workaround to this problem
2 solutions I have already considered are to
    1. rename the files to .mpg, but there are many files and I do not want to corrupt any of them
    2. Don't export to .m1v files- instead use .mpg ALWAYS- (export silent audio track)
So anyone? any other ideas of what can be done
    Thanks

    Thanks again Jim
This was not the answer I wanted to hear. So I contacted Adobe directly- They are very quick- they responded within 24 hours via email of course and reiterated what you said- I guess I just needed "official" word from Adobe, before I went to plan B
Anyways If anyone ever has problems like this where you got a bunch of .m1v files and you need to tag them with metadata- I suggest to do what I am doing and download tmpegenc it is a great little piece of software that will convert your .m1v files to .mpg files that you can now tag within bridge, Beauty
I will NEVER export to .m1v AGAIN

  • Adding keywords to MANY pictures with Bridge CS3?

    Hi there,
I am adding keywords to over 10,000 pictures using Bridge CS3.
I'm copying the keywords from their respective sites and pasting them into the metadata fields in Bridge. (Also adding others if they are not included.) I'm also changing them to all lowercase in InDesign so they are not repeated/duplicated. (i.e. "People" and "people".)
There are many folders and sub-folders but they are all under one main folder.
    Two questions:
    1) Anyone know of a easier way to do this?
    2) Is there a way to make the ("People" and "people") problem go away?
    Mac OS X 10.5.5 Bridge CS3 2.1.1.9
    Thanks.

    Thanks again Jim

  • Bridge CS3 Thumbnail filenames different from actual filenames

    This is really weird query.
When I drag a selection of files into Bridge a small number of the filenames randomly appear with different and very abbreviated names (1or 2 characters) in the horizontal filmstrip i.e. 1.jpg, 2.jpg, A.jpg, AB.jpg.
Sometimes the changed filename seems to reflect the original file i.e. Bloggs_Joe_1234.jpg appears as BJ.jpg. The metadata of the files remain unaltered.
When I drag the abbreviated filename unto my desktop and rename it, it opens in the normal way displaying the full filename when I doubleclick it.
It opens in PS Elements displaying the correct name. The obvious difference is that I am by-passing Bridge.
The files concerned have been shot on a variety of cameras and processed originally on a variety of PC & MAC versions of Photoshop. I am presently using Elements 6 for the Mac. I am using OSX Version 10.5.6.
Thanks, in anticipation, for any suggestions as to where the problem lies.
    Victor

Thank you for your unbelievably fast response. I am using Bridge CS3 which was supplied with Elements 6 for the Macintosh. I will also try the Photoshop Elements forum.

  • Stop Itunes adding numeric prefix to song filename when burning playlist?

Hello, does anyone know how to get Itunes to stop automatically adding nummeric prefixes to the song filenames when burning a playlist? For example, if I have a playlist where the 3rd song is "Boom Boom Pow", Itunes will name this song "03 Boom Boom Pow.m4a" For various reasons I really don't want the number "03" added. I can't find how to make Itunes not do this? I just want the filename to be "Boom Boom Pow.m4a"

I am posting this question in the ITunes forum instead.

  • Nikon D60 - Bridge CS3 cannot write Metadata

{This is a follow on to thread: http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.59b6704d/1}<br /><br />It appears that Bridge CS3 is unable to write some of the IPTC metadata to pictures taken with my Nikon D60.  When trying to change some metadata in a file I get the message "There was an error writing metadata to <filename>"<br /><br />Strangely this does not happen with all metadata fields. For instance, I can change the IPTC Core "City" or "Location" and the change works just fine. However, if I try changing IPTC Core "Creator" or "Copyright Notice" I get that error.<br /><br />I have confirmed that the problem is with the D60 pictures, as it occurs in two different machines (Both CS3, one Vista, one XP).  Both machines are able to edit other camera's pictures OK.  All files are in JPEG format, I have not tried anything in RAW format.<br /><br />I did find in a completely different forum (for BreezeBrowser, which I've never used) a reference to a similar problem.  At least in that forum they mention that the Nikon D60 uses a "different" way of storing metadata which leads to the problem.  BreezeBrowser will release a new version to address this issue.  <br /><br />Any idea what the solution might be for Bridge and other Adobe products?<br /><br />Thanks!<br />Carlos

I don't have my camera with me at the moment, so I'll have to shoot in NEF later. However, just for kicks I downloaded the latest version of ACR and checked against my current version. It appears to be the same (same size, same timestamp). I even replaced it, per the instructions with the download. No love.
As mentioned in my original post, the issue is limited to a few fields, in particular "Creator" (XMP) or "By-line" (IPTC). I went and added new data to this field using ExifTool. I added it to both IPTC and XMP fields since I know Bridge synchronizes them. The change took, and Bridge noticed it. But now Bridge will not let me modify any XMP/IPTC metadata. It won't even let me change the rating of the file!
I'm really at a loss here. I've searched through other threads and haven't found anything to enlighten me.

  • Metadata in Bridge CS3 lost after editing NEF file in Capture NX2

Entered keywords and metadata in Bridge CS3, edited NEF file in Capture NX2 and then all metadata in Bridge got lost even if I did not edit any metadata in Capture.
Original Bridge metadata are still saved in XMP file but Bridge does not show them nor can search or sort photos by them.
Is it a Bridge bug or is it connected with any settings?
    Win XP, Bridge CS3 2.1.1.9, Capture NX2 2.2.0, Nikon D300
Will appreciate any help, thanks a lot.

First I renamed photos in Bridge - sidecar XMP files were created with the new filename already, added some keywords and metadata in Bridge. Edited photo in Capture but not changed the name again - the result was the Bridge does not show edited metadata and keywords anymore even all those info are still saved in sidecar XMP file. Capture apparently does not change XPM in any way.
It looks like all the problems are connected with renaming files in Bridge before editing them in Capture as if Bridge cannot read XMP after Capture added its own info in NEF file.

  • Why is my iPhone no longer able to communicate with adobe bridge cs3?

We have 2 iphone 4's that I have been able to download photos from and into my imac for the last year while using the adobe bridge cs3. Recently, it began giving me  an error meassage: " Adobe bridge cs3 cannot obtain files from this device. Please ensure that the device is connected properly,or that the battery is charged, adn try again".
I did both and that message still pops up. My usb ports are working fine as well as the usb cords(as far as I know of) and the batteries are fully charged when I do so. So what is the deal here??? If anyone can please help I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thanks!!!

    Maro,
I'm running VISTA on my PC. None of the suggestions solved the problem. I uninstalled iTunes removing all suggested files from another post and reinstalled iTunes 11.1.3 and removed the iTunes Ibarra from my iPhone Remote. I restarted the computer, iPhone &amp; router. I added the iTunes library to my iPhone remote. I didn't get an icon on the menu bar of the iTunes on the PC but a dialog came up asking for the code which was on my phone. I typed in the code and the library showed up on my iPhone Remote. I selected it and got an error message that it couldn't connect. This is extremely weird and frustrating. What should I do now?

  • Bridge CS3 Does Not Display Pentax PEF files

    Hi,
I am running Vista and have Bridge CS3 installed on my Notebook. I updated Bridge to v 2.1.1.9 and have added Camera RAW 4.5. My problem is that Bridge does not display Pentax RAW files from a K20 camera (its on the supported list). DNG and JPG files show correctly. Bridge only shows a PEF Icon for each image. When you double click on the Icon, the file opens in Camera RAW 4.5 correctly and also in Photoshop CS3.
Can anyone tell me what I need to do to see the PEF images in Bridge?
    Thanks
    Keith

Revisit the download page, look at the instructions, and make sure you unzipped ACR to the correct folder, and you don't have an ACR in two places.

  • Problem with changing Label in Bridge CS3 and CS6

    Hi there,
I am having some problem with changing Label in Bridge CS3 and CS6 in windows.
    1. In Bridge CS3 (Windows XP), most of the time with most of the files, there is no problem. But I found that in some files, the Label does not get changed. I usually change Label by right clicking on the picture, then Label and select any Label. When I do so in those files, nothing happens. But when I rename the file by changing or adding just a single character, then it works. And if I again rename to original name, it still works. But without renaming the Label does not change. Again this does not happen with all pictures, but occationally with some. We usually receive pictures from different clients for editing purpose.
    2. In Bridge CS6 (Windows 7), if you create lot of Path using Pen tool in Photoshop for the purpose of removing background, you save the file, close, and change Label in Bridge, again open the file in Photoshop, you see no Path in the Path Pallette. So that means, changing Label works, but it removes the Path from the file. But if there is small amount of path, then no prboblem. But if there is lot of path, like you need to create for a necklace to remove background, then the problem arises.
I am using Bridge for a purpose where it is very helpful so I really need to use Bridge, and Labeling feature is the most important to me, but after feaguring out this problem, I am really tensed as to whether or not I will find a solution to this. So any help, guidance will really be appreciated.
Thanks very much in advance for any solution.
    Best regards

I have re-checked the issue and I found that the problem is with JPG file.
I wasn't even aware you could save a path to a jpeg file (always use PSD because of wanting to keep the Alpha Channel, jpeg only can contain 1 layer and no alpha channels and/or transparency).
However I tried it on a file with a simple path and one with a complex path. It seems indeed you have found a bug. The simple path is no problem but the more complex path is indeed disappearing.
It is not only label but also rate or adding IPTC in the description field. The moment metadata is saved to this jpeg file and reopened the earlier present work path of a more complex path is gone.
Despite the fact that to my opinion a jpeg is not the most suitable file format for saving a work path this should not happen. If a work path is saved to a jpeg then it should be kept saved after just altering metadata in Bridge.
It still is the same behavior in Bridge CC because that is what I use. Don't know when it started but it still needs to be repaired

  • Bridge CS3- My find command has quit working, any help?

In my Bridge CS3 the find command cannot find any of the keywords that I spent hours adding. It has been working fine, but one day stopped. I have deleted the plist, the cache, and the recent workspace to no effect. I have not added any new software recently. It doesn't work if I am searching a file that I have open in Bridge so it is not a matter of not waiting long enough for the thumbnails to generate. Those were the only suggestions I found anywhere. Does anyone have any other suggestions? I am running this on a Mac if that makes a difference.

I may have to upgrade as you suggest. I did find one thing that is interesting, though it doesn't explain where the problem comes from. If I open a folder in Bridge that holds files that I have added keyword to, when I close it Bridge can find those files with the find command. I am not sure why opening the folders would make a difference, but it seems to. This only works one when searching one sub-folder deep. If there is another folder in that, even though I've opened it, it will not find it.
I guess until I am ready to spend the money to upgrade I will spend an evening opening all my keyworded folders. I better find a good video to watch while doing it!

  • How to tell if Bridge CS3 can modify XMP?

    Hi Folks,
How can one tell, using a JavaScript for Bridge CS3, if XMP for a particular Thumbnail can be added or modified by Bridge? I'm currently using the sample code below from Bridge CS3's SnpModifyMetadata JavaScript to write the XMP to the Thumbnail:
        // ...SNIP...
// xmp is a XMPMeta object, thumb is a Thumbnail object
        var updatedPacket = xmp.serialize(
           XMPConst.SERIALIZE_OMIT_PACKET_WRAPPER |
           XMPConst.SERIALIZE_USE_COMPACT_FORMAT);
// Have Bridge update the thumbnail's metadata.
        thumb.metadata = new Metadata(updatedPacket);
So, is there a way that a script can tell if the "thumb.metadata =" line actually knows how to add XMP to the Thumbnail before calling it? Also, if XMP can be added, what is the best way to tell if the XMP was successfully updated/added?
I know I can use the XMPFile object's canPutXMP() method from the AdobeXMPScript library, but the documentation states that Bridge can support more formats than AdobeXMPScript library can, so, since I'm using Bridge to do the update, I don't think this helps me. But maybe I'm wrong?
One more question, can Bridge add XMP to a file that doesn't already contain XMP information? I ask because the SnpModifyMetadata JavaScript file doesn't try to do anything with a thumbnail's XMP if it doesn't contain any XMP.
    Thanks in advance for help!!
    -- Jim

    Jim,
You can try to check the Bridge' cache's value for the canSetXmp field...
    myThumbnail.core.itemContent.canSetXmp;
See the "Core infosets" section of the Bridge CS3 JavaScript reference in the SDK for more of the "capability" type info that's in the cache. You will probably get better results checking canSetXmp after you've extracted XMP from the file. Only itmes in the "immediate" infoset are set when a thumbnail are created, others may be set later. Finally, these should all be treated as read-only properties for file system Thumbnails.
In general, if you can get "pencil" icons in the Bridge metadata panel for the visual Thunbnail, then yes you should be able also set the XMP through scripting the Thumbnail object. Generally the model is...
    1. Get the xmp from the file...
var md = myThumbnail.synchronousMetadata; // this will return something even if the file does not actually have XMP in it
    2. Make an SXMPMeta out of it
    var xmp = new SXMPMeta( md.serialize() );
    3. Modify the SXMPMeta object using its API
    4. Update the file...
    myThumbnail.metadata = new Metadata( xmp.serialize() );
YMMV - there are some annoying restrictions on what changes actually get written into the files, and it may depend on file type. Rule of thumb is any custom XMP properties (custom namespaces) and anything that you can edit in the UI should be changable this way.

  • Bridge CS3 frozen

I am using a MacBook Pro with OS 10.6.3 and have been having ongoing problems with my Bridge CS3 running slowly and freezing after being in use for many hours.
My immediate problem is:  I went into preferences/cache and checked the 'Automatically Export Caches to Folders When Possible' box thinking that it would help the program run more smoothly, and now Bridge is unresponsive.  I have tried force quitting, restarting both the program and my computer, and still Bridge is frozen.
When I launch Bridge CS3 the program window appears on the screen, and if I move fast enough it allows me to perform one click (I have tried directing it to a smaller folder and/or opening preferences and unchecking the 'automatic export caches to folders' as well as purging my cache).  Once I have made my one click, the program freezes again.   There is also a little spinning icon in the bottom left corner of the window that indicates that something is happening, but even after letting the program run for up to an hour, nothing.
Using Bridge is a vital aspect of my running my business ~ I am dependent on it, so need to use it daily.  Please help me resolve this issue.  I am dead in the water until I get Bridge up and functional again.
    Thanks!
    Susan

One last question: I'm a professional photographer, but I do not depend on
cached folders and files.  I edit in Bridge, previewing almost every image
(there are thousands of them - hi res too), and then process only the choices
(very few) in Camera Raw, and then retouch in Photoshop; saving my finished
files in new folders on my external drive (which is backed up).  I don't
understand the value of cached folders.  Can you explain please.
    HI Susan
Glad to hear your problems are solved, just keep a record of this method, as
long as you are in CS3 you will certainly need it again sooner or later I'm
    afraid...
The value of keeping folders cached can be very great although keeping the
Cache forever is not the best choice. But that is the way Bridge works. You
can compress the cache and customize  the size (that is, in CS5) so it
overwrites the oldest files but still not ideal in my opinion.
I have a similar workflow as you do with selecting lot's of files and use
only a few to work with. But I don't use much separate folders, usually have
one main folder that is set in Photodownloader as default destination.
I use PDL for downloading from card reader, converting to DNG, renaming with
shot date and sequence number and adding metadata template with copyright
and back up original Raw files to separate HD.
Having Bridge mostly pointed to that main folder the caching starts
automatically for the files (Always HQ) and when the downloading is finished
the caching is almost also done. Plus I don't have to navigate to many
    different folders.
Mostly I don't start immediately on a large project for several reasons and
therefore put them away in stacks. I sometimes have 5 or 6000 files in this
folder but with organizing in stacks it is very easy to overview and find
    them back.
And here is for me the great value of a cached folder, The next day after
restart I can immediately start again to work on that folder and see the
previews in HQ and being able to start selecting with arrow keys and
    cmd+.(dot) to increase rating.
The none selected (using the filter panel to sort and select those easily),
go to separate folders (one folder each day) for my DNG archive using drag
and drop in the folder panel. I don't bother about caching for them, if I do
I use the prefer embedded method, fast and for that purpose enough quality.
The developed  DNG files (rated/labeled) are after finishing in PS moved to
the same DNG archive (with rating and settings so if needed easy traceable).
The saved PSD files go in an other main folder and after adding additional
metadata (IPTC description etc)and proper renaming I can distribute them
with Save as actions customized in size and resolution for client needs,
    leaving the originals untouched.
It would be nice if Bridge was also able to work as a Digital Asset
Management Application but during the cycle from file browser in PSCS to
current Bridge 4 in PSCS5 it failed me many times for this purpose and to be
honest it still is not capable to work with tons of files in a way a
specialized DAM application does. Mainly due to cache problems and slow
    indexing and find options.
Each new version is getting better (faster, stable) but I decided to use
Canto Cumulus as DAM for my main archive of finished imaged that I need to
keep and easy to find. Cumulus does so and I'm very happy with that
It would also be preferable if Bridge deleted cache for older files but to
be honest, I yet have to figure out how that can be done together with
    satisfaction for all users....
Meantime I can't imagine working without Bridge and I learned to live with
deleting the cache file (in my case it grows sometimes to 35 GB in size)
every now and then. As said, for CS3 very often CS4 and especially CS5
rarely and mainly for saving space

  • How to embed my name within multiple image's EXIF data at once-Bridge CS3

I've been trying to figure out how to do this for some time and just can't understand how to get my images both Raw and JPEGs to show my name in the EXIF copyright or author entry when entering it in the "File Info" dialog box so it shows up viewing EXIF data using EXIF Viewer or within Bridge CS3.
Can I get some help on this? Point me to a tutorial or something?
I've already read Bridge Help and it's worded in such a way that isn't very clear to me on how to do this.
Thank you for your help on this.

Let me see if I understand this correctly. That "Digital Workflow 1" pdf told me to uncheck all IPTC boxes which is opposite what you just said.
You are free to create the workflow that suits you, check or uncheck IPTC in Bridge prefs is only a way to organize the view in the metadata panel, not adding or deleting info from it.
So I'm suppose to enter my name in the IPTC Contact-"Creator" entry section within the "File Info" dialog box of a selected image/images within Bridge CS3 and check the IPTC boxes in the Metadata section of Bridge's Preferences dialog box to turn them on so my name I entered as "Creator" in "File Info"/IPTC can be seen in the Metadata placard Bridge work space interface but does NOT guarantee my name will be EMBEDED IN THE EXIF of the selected image/images?
As above, all info you add to IPTC and apply to an image is embedded in the exif and xmp data of that file, no matter if the boxes are checked or unchecked for visibility in metadata panel.
IOW checking the IPTC boxes in Bridge's Metadata Preferences is just for previewing within Metadata Placard work space interface in Bridge? I'm using Filmstrip view as a Bridge work space BTW.
Yes. And consider an other workspace for metadata, I attach some screenshots from my workspace I crerated myself in Bridge using the prefs and drag and drop with panels. It is from Bridge CS4 and apart from the top pathbar it is basicly the same as CS3.
Filmstrip is very nice for sorting with big preview but not the best for adding metadata. You can create as many workspace as you like and you can easily switch between them (in CS3 use the number buttons bottom right.
To actually embed my name entered as "Creator" in "File Info" IPTC section in a selected image/image's EXIF data I have to apply a custom made template to the image/images already residing on the hard drive and viewed in Bridge OR append the IPTC data within the EXIF of the image/images upon import from camera CF card reader through Bridge's "Get Photos From Camera" drop down menu. Correct?
Yes, I have choosen for the last option because now all my downloaded files have this template in it and I don't have to bother later. No matter if the files are keepers or not. You only have to create a template once. See also a screenshot from the info I filled to the template but it is up to you what you like to appear in there.
Another question, what is the difference between the "Description" section where you can enter "Author" (which would be my name) and the IPTC Contact section where you can enter "Creator" (again, my name) both within "File Info" dialog box?
check this wikipedia info about IPTC:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Press_Telecommunications_Council
Another question, I just selected a batch of images within a folder in Bridge and tried to create a Metadata Template and it shows a blank box with a statement at the bottom "Only checked properties will be added/changed to this template"...and below this "Properties selected: 0". What and where are checked properties? Does that mean I have to check the IPTC boxes in Bridge's Metadata Preferences?
Don't know that. You should first create a template without selecting multiple files. After you saved this template select the files you want to change and click on the append template option.
I have to wonder how and why another photographer would need all this nested clutter to accommodate alternate workflows on something as simple as input/output processing on a batch of images. It's beyond my understanding. This just seems way too complicated to have to sort out. Just my opinion.
Nothing is ever that simple as it seems....

  • Keyboard Shortcuts - Bridge CS3

    Hello,
I am trying to figure out what my keyboard shortcuts are for Bridge CS3 on a Windows machine.  That is the set up I am working on currently for a contract job.
Primarily, I am trying to find a quick way to navigate and modify multiple file names (I basically need to remove the first 3 to 5 characeters of the filename) with out having to right-click and choose rename on all of them. I found the keyboard shortcut for Rename to be space bar, however, that doesn't seem to do anything for me.  I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or need to enable a preference, etc.  I run Bridge CS4 on my own Mac machines so I'm not familiar with the variations on the Windows version.
    Any info would be great!!
    Thanks!
    Stef

This is not something I am familar with, but guess no one else is either.
On your Mac do you have a shortcut to do what you want?  If so then a Win machine can do the same thing I would suspect.
If you are looking for some auto process to scrub the first characters then you may have to employ a script.  Here again I know nothing of scripts.  But visit the Bridge Script froum and they can probably fix you right up.
