Adding a Print Server

Hello,
I have a WRT 300N Wireless Router and plan to install a print server.
Is there any special settings I have to perform manually since the print server is a D-Link DPG 321?
My actual set-up is working fine. ( no problems at all).If I isntall this print server will I start having problems?
Any help will be appreciated.
Thaks
Eris

There is no such special settings however you need to configure the D-Link Print server same as the Linksys router ....
The wireless settings in the Print server should be same as in router ....
Connect it with the router ......connect the printer also to the print server ....
Run the setup disc .... it should work....
After installing the printserver you can disconnect it from router & use it wireless ....
As your network is already established there would not be any problem installing Print server ..........

  • Usb print server maybe wireless

We have two windows computers with attached printers. With our MBP we tried sharing either the canon Pixma mp830 or the HP PSC 700 but the results were I used windows printing with a "closest" match driver which seemed kind of goofy. I am thinking of adding a print server to the network so we dont have to have a pc on to print. Does it really matter what brand I get (of course I will get something like hp etc) to work with the apple, I am hoping with the print server that I can get more features of the printers than using windows printing?

    Beberas,
I'm not sure why you would have problems with that particular print server, being unfamiliar with it.
But, I can tell you about the Airport Express
Your profile mentions you have a G5 tower (do you also have a Macbook Pro, and that's why you are posting here??). If there is already an Airport card installed in it, you will not need another. If you have a Macbook Pro, it already has an Airport card.
The Airport Express would allow both wired and wireless printing, and it will do so seamlessly. As far as the AE is concerned, there will be no need for drivers, but you will need drivers for the various printers that are connected (I'll talk more about that).
Whether you want wireless connections, wired, or a mix of both makes no difference. If you want to go exclusively wireless, your Macbook Pro is ready, but your tower may not be. If you need an Airport card, it would be for the tower. The AE will either join an existing wireless network, or connect directly to the router via ethernet; your choice. If it is connected via ethernet, it could serve as a wireless "bridge" to the wired network, if you like (I am also unfamiliar with your router, and whether or not it is wireless).
Now, let's talk about printers and drivers. You should already have drivers for most popular printers installed with OS X. If the drivers for all your printers are present, any connected printers will be automatically recognized via Bonjour, and they will show up in your list of printers.
If you don't have the drivers for one or more printers, all is not necessarily lost. You might be able to find OS X native drivers on the manufacturer's website. If not, it is likely that OS X native drivers for a similar printer from the same manufacturer will work, but perhaps without all of the printer's features. I have a laser Samsung laser printer that works this way, and it works flawlessly (I had to find an appropriate, but not "dedicated," driver on the Samsung website).
Even if no appropriate OS X native driver exists, it still might be possible to use the printer. You see, OS X uses "CUPS," the Common UNIX Printing System. Using CUPS, it is possible to print to almost any printer, provided you can find a "Printer Description File" for that printer. That's all CUPS needs, in most cases, to print to that device. Again, all features might not be available, but CUPS can turn an otherwise useless printer into an asset.
In general, if you can print to something that is connected directly to your Mac, you can print to it through an Airport Express.

  • Print Server Setup/Config

ok, i have a 2008 R2 server that i added the print server role too.
i have been following this article: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc753109(v=ws.10).aspx
but my question is when i add a printer by IP address (the search brought up 0 results) do i need to leave the "Share Printer" box checked? or uncheck it?
after i add the printers to this server, i will then go to our AD Server and connect the print server in the print management console that is there on the main AD/Domain Controller.
also plan to create a user based GPO to so specific users will be mapped to printers. do i need to create/add printers to the same OUs that the users are in in ADUC?
i want to get the server right before i add it into AD as a designated PS.

In order for clients to connect to the shared printers, the Shared box needs to be checked.
Printers can be Published but that is not a requirement to deploy connections to the shared printers.
If you would like printers discoverable when clients attempt to find them in the domain, then Publishing the print objects to the domain would be needed.

  • Default D:\i386 When Adding 86 Print Driver To Server 2008 R2 64

This has happened several times with a printer that i have installed on the server.
Printer works fine, but in sharing, additional drivers, when adding a 86 driver, i get the box "PLEASE PROVIDE PATH.....COPY FILES FROM ........D:\i386.
I have the proper driver, i installed it on my 32 bit xp computer, and printed fine by adding the printer by tcp on my computer.
I am trying to add this driver, so when i share the printer on the server, an xp machine can receive the drivers and install .
    Any ideas

  • Adding printer from print server

    Hi All,
We are migrating to a new print server, and i am writing a script to detect a users installed printers, change the server name and re add the printers (and also set the default printer). This is to be deployed from SCCM 2012 R2
The problem is that the deployment runs but doesn't migrate any of the printers - when run manually, the script asks for drivers to be installed for certain printers.
Is there a way to bypass this in pwershell?
I have already tried to get around the problem in SCCM but it hasnt worked.
    My Script is below.
Thanks in advance for your help :)
    $net = New-Object -ComObject WScript.Network
    $oldqueues = Get-WmiObject -Class Win32_Printer | Where-Object ServerName -Like '\\ukhem02001*' | select Name -ExpandProperty Name
    $default = Get-WmiObject -Class Win32_Printer | Where-Object Default -EQ 'True'| select Name -ExpandProperty Name
    $default = $default.Replace("oldprintserver","newprintserver")
    foreach ($queue in $oldqueues){
        $path = $queue.Replace("oldprintserver","newprintserver")
        $net.AddWindowsPrinterConnection("$path")
            $net.RemovePrinterConnection("$queue")
    $net.SetDefaultPrinter("$default")

You should be using PrintManager to migrate printers.  It is part of the Server set and needs to be used because it will manage all printers in an AD domain correctly.  SCCM is only useful when you are running a pre-WS2008 domain.

  • Adding x86 printer drivers to x64 print server

When attempting to install X86 inbox print drivers to an X64 W2K8 print server, the drivers are not found.  Where do I locate the X86 inbox print drivers on an X64 W2K8 Server?Tyler McLaughlin

    Hi,
    Thanks for the post.
Please understand that we need to manually install 32bit drivers on a Windows 64bit 2008 printer server since the 32bit drivers are not stored on 64bit server.
In this case, I suggest we first contact the printer manufacturer to check if the appropriate driver is available. If so, please download it to the printer server.
After that, please try the following two methods to install the additional printer driver.
    Method 1 (Preferred):
Step 1. Share a x64 print queue out
    ==============================
On the x64 Windows Vista RTM/SP1 or a x64 Windows Server 2008 RTM
Login with the Domain Administrator account or Local Admin account
Click on Start, Control Panel, Printers, Press the ALT button or Click on Organize, Layout, Menu Bar
    Click on File
    Click on Run as administrator
    Click on Add Printer...
Choose "Add a local printer" or "Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer"
And go through the rest of the steps to install a printer and make sure that you share it for example PrintShare1.
Step 2. Add the x86 print driver
    ==============================
    On a x86 Windows Vista RTM/SP1 or a x86 Windows Server 2008 RTM
Login with the Domain Administrator account
Click on Start, \\x64W2K8 PrintServer (or a x64 Vista acting as a Print Server)
    Double click on "Printers"
    Right click on the PrintShare1
    Click on the "Sharing" tab
    Click on the "Additional Drivers..."
Check the box for 'x86 Type 3 - User Mode'
    Click on Ok
    Click on Close
    Method 2 (Alternate):
    On a x64 Windows Vista RTM/SP1 or a x64 Windows Server 2008 RTM
    Click on Start, Control Panel
    Double click on Printers
    Press the ALT button
    or
Click on Organize, Layout, Menu Bar
Click on File, Run as administrator, Server Properties...
    Click on the Drivers tab
    Click on Add...
    Click on Next
Uncheck the 'x64 Type 3 - User Mode'
Check the 'x86 Type 3 - User Mode'
    Click on Have Disk...
Click on Browse... (to the x86 (32-bit) machine)
    \\x86W2K8\c$\windows\system32\driverstore\filerepository\prn*.inf_{GUID}
    or
    \\x86Vista\c$\windows\system32\driverstore\filerepository\prn*.inf_{GUID}
    For example: \\x86W2K8\c$\windows\system32\driverstore\filerepository\prnhp001.inf_5fecfc5e\prnhp001.inf
    Click on Open
    Click on Ok
    Under "Printers"
Select the print driver that you want to install
    Click on Next
    Click on Finish
Now you should be able to see the x86 print drivers installed under the "Processor" column.
    Click on Close
For your reference, here is some useful information about managing printer driver.

    Does it work?
If this issue still persists, please collect the MPSReport from the Windows 64bit 2008 printer server.
    1. Download proper MPS Report tool from the website below.

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=CEBF3C7C-7CA5-408F-88B7-F9C79B7306C0&displaylang=en
    2. Double-click to run it, if requirement is not met, please follow the wizard to download and install them. After that, click Next, when the "Select the diagnostics you want to run" page appears, select "General", <and other necessary catalog>, click Next.
    3. After collecting all log files, choose "Save the results", choose a folder to save <Computername>MPSReports.cab file.
Please send the files to me directly at [email protected]
    Hope this helps.

  • Can't print through Linksys Print Server with PowerMac G5

Just wondering if anyone out there has been able to print using their PowerMac while spooling through a print server, specifically a Linksys PSUS4? I have a desktop and a laptop PC and a PowerMac g5 1.6Ghz and a MacBook Pro 2.0Ghz and only the HP laptop is able to print when my Epson R340 printer is routed through the print server.
I was using a Belkin switchbox to switch between USB hubs when printing with the desktop computers and this worked fine, other than having to remember to switch the connection when using a different computer.
Since then, I have added a Linksys wireless G router and a Linksys PSUS4 print server to allow the two laptops to print wirelessly. Now the only machine I can print from is the HP PC laptop. Neither desktop can print, nor my Macbook.
I am trying to use GIMP to print with my G5. When I send a jpb, it spools all the way through the job, but the printer never responds or prints a single sheet.
    Again, I am using a PowerMac G5, 1.6Ghz and MacOS 10.4.8.
Any help anyone can give would be greatly appreciated!
    PowerMac G5 1.6Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   Also using MacBook Pro 2.0Ghz

I've only been able to get it to work with my wife's HP laptop. So far, GIMP priting with the Mac is a no-go. It spools, but the printer just sits there.
As of now, I'm trying to print from my wife's desktop, which is an older model eMachines 1.1Ghz with XP Professional. Right now, it's just sitting there with a "Printing" window.
I have called Linksys, but to no avail. Couldn't understand they guy was speaking with. According to a networking friend of mine, there must be a PC host machine which is on all the time which acts as a "bridge" to get the files to the printserver. I don't know about that, but my father-in-law uses a PSUS4 to print wirelessly from 2 PC laptos with no problems.
Gonna try calling Linksys back and see if I get anywhere with that. If not, we'll try another route.
I'll post with what I find out.

  • How to print to Canon irC5051 with Print Server?

    [edit] I am using 10.7.5 not 10.6.8 sorry [\edit]
My company recently upgraded to Canon Image Runner C5051 units.
They added print servers with authentication for follow me printing (print at any machine around the building by authenticating).
I have read tons of discussions, forums and google articles on how to get image runners to print with os x - yet to no avail.
I have downloaded both the recent drivers from canon (the PS and URII) updates.
I can only seem to connect to the printer using the "Windows" domain feature in the add printer settings.
    The Windows URL is \\printARL\ARLC-Secure.
I can ping the \\printARL and retrieve the IP address.  But I cannot do the same with the full path (\\printARL\ARLC-Secure)
Trying to LDP print to the printARL ip does not work.  I have no way of figuring out the full path ip address of the print server.
On my windows computer it shows "null" in the port/ip address on the PORTs tab.
So with URII I cannot identify the LDP ip address to use so if I connect via the windows domain it keeps returning error -50.
I guess this makes sense because its not LDP.
Using the windows search to connect and applying the Canon 5051 PS driver it seems to function.
It connects, allows to me authenticate, moves the file to the print server, and shows up at the printer.
But when I print, it does nothing.  No output.  ...sometimes it even makes the sound like it is printing, but then no dice.
If I try and Generic PS or PCL driver, it sends the document.
But when I print, it seems to produce a paper format error (thinks it LGL)
So if you force the printer to print to LTR, it spits out reems of giberish.
There must be something I am missing.

Sorry for missing your post. I don't check the 10.6 forums too often.
Reading your post it sounds like your are using uniFLOW, which is the follow-me printing app. So if you want to continue using this with the Mac there are a few things to note.
    1. The Mac UFR2 driver wants to communicate directly with the copier. With print jobs being routed via the Windows print server (uniFLOW secure input queue) there is no chance of there being two-way communication and this often causes the -50 error you mention.
The solution is to use the Canon PPD, but this would require the ADV C50xx to have the optional Postscript kit. And given the gibberish output you mention it would seem that this kit was not purchased. So I would be talking to the Canon rep. If they had scoped your business correctly and saw the Mac/s then the PS kit should have been ordered.
    2. You cannot ping the printer queue on the Windows server. So pinging \\printARL\ARLC-Secure won't work as you have found. But you can ping the Windows server, which you did and this worked. And, your issue is not due to an inability to connect to the Windows queue. It is a driver issue.
    3. Using the PS driver appears to work. Lets you authentice but does not print. This is due to the lack of the Postscript kit in the copier.
    4. Re the Generic PS, no PS kit means no printing. And the same goes for PCL.
So, in summary. The UFR2 driver is not designed to print via a Windows server. For your setup, the Postscript kit in the copier would solve your issue.

  • Windows 7 client can't connect to Server 2008 R2 Print Server VM (ESXi 5.5)

I have an issue today that is driving me bonkers.
I recently came on-board to a company in my area as the system administrator and this network has everything and the kitchen sink wrong with the network layout, probably the worst I've seen and I'm slowly but surely fixing it day by day.....
Well today I decided I was going to spin up another VM from a template and make a Print Server, seems harmless right? --- I thought so too, added all of the printers to the server and did test pages, all was dandy, but then I tried to add the printers to
clients and other server and the real fun has begun, I'm truly perplexed now...
I added a VM to my esxi 5.5 cluster at work that is a 2008 R2 server with only print management on it. I can map all of the printers on the network to the print server as-well as install the drivers correctly and I can resolve the IP and server name via
DNS. I can test printers directly from the print server successfully printing out test pages however whenever I try to map printers you know from the directory in 'devices and printers' from any of the Windows 7 clients or any of the other 2003/2008 servers
I get the classical "Windows cannot connect please check the network connection and make sure sure the printer is turned on". I disabled the windows firewall and I made the point to print GPO set to disabled and still no luck. Again I can print to
all of the printers internally inside of the VM (so I know it communicating to all of the printers), I just can't connect to the printers listed in the directory on any of external desktop/client, it's like so annoying. spent about 6 hours until my brain just
couldn't think anymore, was about to go BS on the VM.
The only thing I can think of, as I was driving home, is that there is a GPO on one of the DC that has a desginated print server policy set. But prior to last week the forest leve was 2000 and now it's 2003. I just don't know Server 2000 enough to know if GPO's
worked in the same way they do in 2003.
Right now printers are connected to other servers in a ad hoc mentality it seems, there has never been a true print server.
Anyone ever have this problem before?
    I'm truly puzzled...

    Hi Mid.Hudson-IT,
Before we begin ,we should ensure we have configured the printer server correctly .
Here is a link for reference of configuring the printer server .
Print server role: Configuring a print server
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc775791(v=ws.10).aspx
"I can map all of the printers on the network to the print server as-well as install the drivers correctly and I can resolve the IP and server name via DNS"
From this sentence ,I can`t figure out whether you have tried to ping the server both with the IP adress and name adress from the client ?
If we can ping the print server from the client,we can ensure the connection to the printer server is good .
Then we can try to install the printer driver directly to have a check .In the adress bar of Windows Explorer ,input "\\server name \the printer name"
If we cannot ping the print server ,we should troubleshoot the network issue firstly.
We also can check the event viewer for more information to troubleshoot this issue .
    Best regards

  • Adding Windows Printer Tab in Snow Leopard

    Hello,
I have a HP Deskjet F2280 connected Via USB into my Windows XP PC. I have been using this PC as a print server and have had no problems connecting to it through my macbook running leopard through SAMBA.
Now after my upgrade to SL i am unable to connect to the printer. I have tried deleting the printer under the printer system preferences, but i am now unable to add the printer again - I installed the printer in leopard 10.5 previously through the windows tab under add printer in printer preferences.
Now in SL the Windows tab is greyed out. I have doubled checked that my mac is part of my workgroup in the WINS tab in network preferences, and i have checked if file (SMB) and printer sharing are turned on. My firewall is also off. For some reason i cant work out why i cant add a windows printer. Does SL require a new way to register workgroups?
    Any help would be appreciated.
P.S: I know HP drivers arent really supported in SL, but usually i could use the generic postscript driver, and this usually works under 10.5

I don't believe you need to do anything different in SL to connect to a Windows shared printer.
On my SL Mac, the Add Printer > Windows icon is still available and that is with both File and Printer sharing disabled on SL. I also don't a Workgroup name entered in WINS, although if you did I don't see this stopping the add Windows printer function.
If you open Finder, do you see the Windows box in the Shared view?
You may be able to work around the Add Printer issue by adding the Advanced menu to the Add Printer toolbar (control-click on the toolbar, select customize and drag the Advanced icon to the toolbar). If you then change the Type to Windows, you can enter the path to the printer in the URL section (smb://Windowsname/printer_sharename) and select the Generic PS in print using menu. Hopefully the Windows menu is available for you in this view...

  • Can't print from print server

I have an HP PSC 1610 all in one. To set up my printer I pluged the USB cable into the Mac and had no problems. It obviously has the drivers because it added my printer in Print & Fax and it prints with no problem. What I want to do is unplug my USB and plug it into the print server, and then tell the Mac that the printer is located at IP address. This works very well with a PC. I just can't find out where to put in the IP address. If I install an IP printer, I have to use the drivers from another printer because my PSC 1610 is not on the list of drivers. It will print, but I'm not sure what i'm sacrificing. I doesn't make sence.

    cadillacjoe,
Have you played with this network configuration guide offere by DLink?

I ran some senarios and came up with assorted products and plug-in options.

What flexibility do you have in where you locate the G3 and the printer. Could the D-LinkDPR-1260 be hardwired to the B&W instead of the otherway around?

  • When adding a printer share within Print Management receive "There are no more endpoints available from the endpoint mapper."

I've installed Server 2012 as a print server (Print server will be the only function of this server). I'm now trying to add printers. The first one I've added is a HP 2035 with the Windows update HP Universal PCL6 driver. If I chose to share the printer
during the setup I receive "There are no more endpoints available from the endpoint mapper." If I choose not to share during the setup, it adds without any issues...until I launch Properties and attempt to share it. I'm finding it doesn't seem to
matter what driver I use, whenever I share I end up with the same result. I've also tried using the PCL6 Universal Driver from HP, no change. I'e been researching this issue for hours without any change. By default, we disable firewalls on servers (Some TN
thread suggested checking to ensure the firewall is disabled). Spooler isn't crashing. I've tried adding a few others printers, running into the exact same issue. Why is trying to share the printers causing this issue?

I've seen some people state they get this error when disabling the Windows Firewall service.  I've never seen the error with the service disabled but it may be the replacement software interfering.
If it's off start up the service and let us know the outcome.

  • Problem Installing a LaserJet P1606dn on a printer server using the HP UPD

I'm trying to setup a LaserJet P1606dn printer as a local printer on a 64bit Server 2003 print server.  I'd like to use the HP Universal Print Driver as the printer driver for Citrix compatibility (per the HP whitepaper entitled "HP printers supported in Citrix XenApp server environments").  I successfully downloaded, extracted and installed the latest HP UPD PCL5 driver on the print server without issue.  I then successfully added the P1606dn as a new local printer (using a new Standard TCP/IP port directed to the IP address of the printer) and configured it to use the UPD PCL5 driver.   Everything appears ok with the setup, but when I try to print a test page, nothing prints out.
I've confirmed that I've configured the TCP/IP port with the correct address and that the printer is connected to the network and pingable from the print server.  I also tried using the HP UPD PCL6 driver with the same result.
    Thanks.

  • Printing to a Linksys Wireless Print Server with my MAC

have a small home network using an ATT DSL modem-router. I have several PCs hardwired to the router and 1 older MAC wireless. I have a MAC G4 laptop and a Dell laptop (my wife's) also connected wirelessly and all work well. I have added a Linksys wireless print server today and am able to get my wife's laptop to print easily and reliable as does the hardwired Dell. What I need is to get my MAC laptop to print wirelessly as well. I have tried all the options in the printer set-up but it does not see the print server. Linksys does not support MAC and there are no MAC drivers for the print server to download that I know of. Does anyone know of a fix on how I could configure this equipment so I can print wirelessly from my MAC laptop. Or perhaps bypass the print server and print using the modem-router and the same printer. I would appreciate any suggestions one could lend. Thanks much.
Power Book G4 17" Mac OS X (10.4.10) Virtual PC capable

Looking at figure 8-5 and the text to its left in the User Guide.
Click Add in Printer Setup, then select IP printer > IPP. Enter the print server's IP address AND queue name P1. With that info filled in OS X has all it needs to address the printer on the print server.
Download and install the CUPS driver version 1.1.0, and choose it when you Add in Printer Setup.

  • Printing on a Wireless Network through a Wireless Print Server Resolved

    Ok,
I have been working on this all day and no one at apple could help me.
I have a linksys router with a dlink print server hooked up to it.
my macbook would not recognize the printer. if I added it manually it wouldnt print. so I was trying to find a solution myself. I was thinking if the Printer Queue Name was the issue. It was, that must be correctly entered for the printer to work. Now my Leopard will print.
    Hope this helps someone.
    Nick

This will not be specifically helpful, but it MAY help you get started.
I had the same problem too, when initially setting up wireless printing for my Mac Pro.
I ended up specifying the IP address of the wireless printer server and to identify the print q name, I printed out a status sheet from the printer.
