Adding a program to automatically open on a Managed Account

Is there any way to add a program to a "Managed Account" to automically run upon login without the "Managed Account" holder having to login and add it to the "Login Items" under their account preferences?
For example, as an administrator, I would like to auto-run a program on a Managed Account but do not want the Managed Account holder to know it is running.
Thanks,

In private browsing not working in Firefox 3.6.12 If I open yahoomail one session for one account and if I open other session for yahoomail, it automatically opens the earlier mail account. But if I want to use more than one yahoomail accounts, in private browsing is not working. Please suggest.

That problem isn't related to Private Browsing specifically, that's how Firefox works with regards to multiple "sessions" with the same server - only one logon is allowed at any time. Try using one of these extensions to be able to run multiple session cookies.

  • Programs that automatically open on startup

Can anyone tell me how to STOP Skype from automatically opening on Start up of my MBPro ? It never did this and I haven't updated OSX lately, nor can I with 10.4.11. Skype now opens when I power on my mac, then hangs - always, and I have to force quit it. There is NO option in Skype's own menu list to stop it from auto opening on start up. Grrrr
Thanks to you if you can help.

Open the Accounts pane of System Preferences and check the list of login items for your user account.

  • Can't remove automatic opening program

When I want to remove a program from the list of programs that automatically open when my MacBook Pro starts up, there is a specific program that I can't remove of the list.
Strange is that Sophos is even installed anymore on my laptop. So normally it is possible to remove it by selecting it and clicking on the - , but here the - is grey and can't be selected.
Has anybody an idea how I could remove it?
    Thanks

Maybe this will help. If you monitor the "More Like This" box, other solved threads appear. Opening them usually displays other threads.

  • How do I set up iTunes to automatically open when I plug in my iPad

How can I set up my iTunes program to automatically open iTunes once I plug in my iPad ?
    MacBookPro IOS  M-Lion
Whenever I want to sync my ipad- once I connect both units I have to manually open itunes to continue ???
    Any set up suggestions ?
    Thanks

You might want to check this as well... Although I'm not familiar with Mountain Lion since I am still running Lion, but I think it is pretty much the same in ML....
Open System Preferences and click on Users and Groups. Click on your your account and then click on Log In Items and make sure that iTunes Helper is checked.

  • [Solved] Auto-open a file manager after mounting with udev rules

    Hellooooo,
I followed the udev Wiki for auto mounting USBs and it now works great.
The only problem is: how can I automatically open a file manager of the mounted directory? I tried putting this at the end of the "ACTION=="add"," section in "/etc/udev/rules.d/11-media-by-label-auto-mount.rules" but for some reason nothing happens:
    , RUN+="/usr/bin/dolphin /media/%E{dir_name}"
Even if I just try to open dolphin with the "ACTION=="add"," section nothing happens either way.
So what am I doing wrong?

In that case, the best choice in my opinion is to use Automounting UDisks Wrappers :
devmon is a script developed by IgnorantGuru. He left Arch Linux, but the package in AUR is still there and is the last version. For a future new release, it should be available at his blog site. The script is distro independent.
My udisksvm script, in its default state, doesn't launch a file manager after automounting, but it is not a big thing to let the automounting be done and then manually open a file manager (a new entry in the traydevice right-click menu can also be added for that).
If you can do without automounting, there is also the bashmount script from jnguyen.
All these scripts don't require writing any udev rules, they use udisks instead.
I hope you could find something you like and which will suit your wishes.

  • Automatically open a program after opening a program

Here's what I want to do... I have a menubar program that gives me info about the current iTunes track. Thing is, I don't want the program to open until I open iTunes. Is there a way to have the program automatically open when I open iTunes? (and maybe even automatically quit when I close iTunes?) Thanks!

Scripts run under the current user account and can only affect the current user's environment. Therefore you can't have a script run as user A that affects user B's environment (e.g. launch an application in the other user's environment).
Therefore there's no way (I can think of) for a script to initiate a fast user switch followed by launching an app in the second user's account.

  • When viewing documents on a Web Server, IE automatically opens a blank page and then opens the document in the default program. The blank screen should close automatically but isn't happening.

So here is the situation, my company uses a third party scanning software, that puts documents scanned or created onto a webserver. We use a program that grants a user access to view the documents on the webserver. The user will have to log into the system
using credentials, we have Kerberos doing this. Once the user is logged onto the system they navigate to the document they want to view or edit. So the user wants to view a .pdf file, they click the document they want, and it is supposed to open in the default
program associated with file extension. ie: .doc would open Word, .xls would open Excel. When the document is loading in the default program Internet Explorer opens a blank page, this page is supposed to prompt the user if they want to open or save the document.
(I changed the registry to have the files selected to automatically open without this prompt.) The blank screen generated is still staying open, this screen is supposed to close automatically after the prompt or close automatically after the document is opened.
So when a user is looking at several documents, this floods the screen with all these blank Internet Explorer pages. This problem is only occurring for users that have Windows 7 PC's, XP users do not have this problem at all. My PC is the only one in the company
that is Windows 7 64-bit, and working properly with the IE blank page automatically closing. I'm wondering what can be done to fix this problem, is it as simple as registering some .dll files or do I need to make a registry change? Any help would greatly be
    appreciated.

What is the registry change exactly?  Sounds like one which is supposed to avoid the prompt.  I know
that there used to be such a thing, before the new prompt and I know that some users think that there should be such a thing for any program but I'm not sure if that expectation is valid or not.  I think this may also be related to a concurrent change
in the OS.  E.g. in XP we had File Types Options editor but starting in Vista that was removed.  You might get some more clues on this tack from NirSoft's FileTypesMan utility.
The registry change that I did was to remove the open and save prompt. I will be sure to look into that. Our company
isn't worried about the user's automatically opening the files since they are all trusted. They also do not have the ability to install anything, so if they were to download a potentially harmful file they could never install it. We monitor downloads as well,
if they download files off the internet that aren't work related we remove their download capabilities.
Sounds like a scenario for using ProcMon to take two traces and compare them for their essential differences.
I talked to my boss about using this tool and he is worried about using it. I'm only an intern at my office and do not have the authority to use a program without their knowledge or consent. I will run the idea by them again and see if it's okay I use this.
I'll maybe make some presentation about how it can help us with our problem and how much time and money it will save. Because I really want to get down to the bottom of this.
Probably the most significant thing is going to be the Content-type that the files are being served by.
You could use the Developer Tools, Network Capture to check on that and ProcMon could help explain what happens after that.  A related workaround to change the symptom when the Content-type is not what is expected is to disable MIME Sniffing (e.g. in
Security options, Miscellaneous section).  In fact, perhaps that could explain your machine's difference with anyone else?  MIME Sniffing is a default, previously known as "save according to type not extension" (or some such wording).
Okay I will be completely honest I have no idea how to use Developer Tools (F12), yes I could google it, when I tried using it on the blank pages it would never work, I also have no idea what I'm looking at. I should mention that I do not have access to
the web server. Our programming and development side only has access to our AS400, which is where the web server is located. I do have MIME Sniffing enabled and so does everyone else. I may be wrong but, I believe it is needed in order to open the file extension
in the correct default program, yes? I thought MIME Sniffing would see a .docx file and then find the appropriate program to open that .docx file in. I may be wrong but I know it's used somehow along these lines.

  • Automatically open newly added files in a folder?

    Hi there.
I own a Nikon D80 and I want to have the images I take transfered directly to my Mac to be stored and displayed. I found this om flickr: http://www.flickr.com/groups/d80/discuss/72157603787246133/ where a user describes how to automatically add the photos to a folder on the Mac, now all I need is a script that will automatically open the newly imported photos, is it possible to do - and how? (I figured it probably had something to do with automator, but since I don't know anything about coding anything, I need some help).
The script could either open the pictures as they are added (10 photos taken will result in a total of 10 windows when done) or replace the current showed image (10 photos taken will result in a total of 1 window when done)
Hope it all makes sence, thanks in advance!

All I can suggest is peruse the AppleScript forum for possible scripts or post your query there. It's under OS X Technologies. I don't do workflows, so I just pointed you to the basic starting point. Alternatively, post your query to the Flickr forum.

  • When i click on links in other programs, where the link should automaticly open in firefox, nothing happens. Firefox is my primary.

    Example:
software for games, where developers post headlines for news. Those are actualy hyperlinks, and should automaticly open in firefox, when customer clicks on the headline. When i click on a headline, nothing happens. They just stopped working a while ago, which is pretty frustrating. Firefox is my primary web browser.
Please help, becouse I've searched and never found a solution for this issue.
Looking forward to your answer, thank you for reading this!

This is a known bug, and has been for years. It occurs when Firefox is your default browser and some glitch (or program) changes that default. Thankfully, there's a fairly easy fix, though it does involve monkeying around in the Registry.
(Note: These instructions apply to Windows Vista and 7 only.)
    1. Click Start, type regedit, and then press Enter.
    2. Navigate to the following entry: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\FirefoxURL\shell\open\ddeexec
    3. In the center pane, double-click the Default entry, then remove whatever value is there (it'll probably be a weird string of numbers and commas).
    4. Click OK, then exit Regedit.
    5. If Outlook and/or Firefox are open, close them, then restart them.

    Any one can help me

Thank you for your response - I'll give it a go.
Also, just to update, my iMac cursor seems to glitch a little bit less now. It seems that at least ONE of my problems may have been caused by sitting my iPhone upon my WACOM tablet. The tablet must receive some sort of disruption from having my phone on it - and removing it seems to remedy a fraction of my mouse-jumping problems - if only for a meanwhile.
The mouse cursor still does jump around on its own occasionally, and the other mouse problems do persist - so this must not be the only culprit for my array of problems.

  • Programs automatically open last several documents - causing serious lag and confusion.

Since upgrading to Lion (clean install of 10.7.3), I've noticed that many programs have some extreme lag.  Programs that used to love because they were so fast (like preview) now take up to 45 seconds of spinning pinwheels before opening.  I've also noticed that when I open a program (such as preview), the program automatically opens the last several documents I had been working on. This is true across several platforms and programs including Preview, Word, Powerpoint, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc., etc., etc.,  - - as you all are probably aware some power point and InDesign files can be pretty massive and hog up a lot of processing power/RAM when opening.  It's really frustrating when these are documents I'm not actually interested in working on.  It's also frustrating that when in a meeting with my boss, if I open photoshop pictures of a recent family vaction will automatically open up.  Terribly unprofessional.
How can I make this stop?
    If I didn't already say, I'm running 10.7.3 on a newer (fall 2011) 13" MBP.

Couple of things to try -
    • Go to System Preferences > General; in the Section "Recent Items", uncheck the item "Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps".
    • With the program (such as Preview) open, go to its File menu, select "Open Recent..." - from that submenu, select "Clear menu".

  • E-mail program won't open PDF attachments automatically with Adobe Reader

When I get e-mail with PDF attachment I get a message saying I must open only from trustworthy source.  Then I click it open, but it won't open.  So I click save, and it is saved to desktop where I can then open it with Adobe Reader.  I prefer that Outlook automatically opens it with Adobe Reader when I click it just once.  I have updated Adobe Reader from 9.0 to 9.3.2, and it still won't work,

I have had the exact same problem, i use windows mail because my computer was unable to run outlook for a reason i can't remember and this is dead-set exactly the process i go through constantly. I have unistalled/reinstalled adobe multiple times.
