Adding a safari icon to/in the dock

How may I accomplish this? Thanks very much.
Mike Long

"Don't forget while dragging to hold-down the 'Option" key Otherwise you will drag the original Application to the Dock."
I think that you are mistaken there, Dimaxum. Dragging anything to the Dock only creates an alias to it. I have never had to option-drag anything to the dock to keep the original where it should be. The original remains wherever it was.

  • Safari icon isn't on dock

I have a Mac IOS 10.9 and  when I turned on my computer today the Safari icon was off the dock. I couldn't find it but I was able to get online with Firefox. When I did it asked me to upgrade and gave me a choice of new browsers I could download - Safari being one of them. I don't understand Firefox too well. Should I download the Safari if I already have it?'
My most important question is: how do I get the Safari icon originally from my Mac back on my dock? I can't find it.

Click Finder in the Dock to launch it.
Open  Application Folder and then Safari.
When Safari is open, right click Safari icon in the Dock, move mouse pointer up tp Options and select "Keep in Dock".
    Best.

  • I have managed to download Firefox - the first two steps apparently successfully but I cannot seem to drag the icon down to the dock. I use a mac mini. Thank you.

Make sure that Firefox gets installed properly.
Open the DMG file and drag to Firefox program to the application folder on your hard drive.
You shouldn't double-click the Firefox application to run it from the disk image, but drag it out of the DMG folder instead.

  • Finder icon is outside the dock

I don't know what I did, but my finder icon is outside the dock. It's just sitting by the dashboard but outside the dock shaded area.
The thing is, I can't click on, move or do anything with the finder icon. It's just sitting there. What can I do? How do I move the icon back to the dock so I can use Finder again?
    Please help! Thanks so much!

Restarts apparently will come into vogue on Mac too more and more.
I lost my Network-Connection yesterday. "network cable has been removed" was the message.
    A restart solved it.
Furthermore some drivers need a restart by installation.
It's like new Adobe Trial-Software needs to be uninstalled by uninstallers, if you want to reinstall the licensed version.
Otherwise it gives you loads of trouble.

My maiil icon is in the dock but I am unable to bring up the program when I click on the icon.

It may have lost its connection (it is only an alias).
Delete it and create another one by dragging Mail from the Applications folder to the Dock.

  • I upgraded to snow leopard, since then safari does open in the dock but does not load as set in my preferences and the title page remains blank even though I have set-up a home page. I completely re-initialised safari, but no change.

I upgraded to snow leopard, since then safari does open in the dock (white dot) but does not startup as set in system preferences. Also, if I open safari, the title page remains blank even though I have set a home page under safari's preferences. I re-initialised safari, but no change.

Having put my home-page under "new windows open with home-page" solves the "blank title page problem".
One problem left: "safari" does not startup automatically as set in system preferences, whereas "mail", also set for startup DOES startup

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Find the com.apple.dock.plist file in your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder, drag it to the Desktop, log out/in or restart and let us know what happens.

When updating my spreadsheets (iWork '08) the umbrella icon appears in the dock, and the software backs up what I've entered. I don't recall setting this up.
    Anyone know what's going on?

Thanks, but I do know what the software is for as I occasionally use it to back up stuff onto my iDisk, but I don't understand why I'm getting backups of stuff like spreadsheets when I haven't set the system up for it.
The only back up I do have set up is for my iPhoto album to back up to my Lacie external hard drive...that's all.

  • Safari/internet launcher icon deleted from the dock and now missing

I am new to the Mac so there is probably an easy solution I just haven't discovered yet, but when playing with my preferences yesterday, I switched the dock to the left side and mistakenly deleted the internet launcher icon (the springboard-like icon with the @ symbol) but couldn't figure out what was gone and then emptied my trash later in the day. It doesn't help that I don't know exactly what the shortcut/launching icon was called, but I can't find it anywhere in Applications or through Safari. Now, in order to go on line I have to pull up Safari and then go from there.
Any idea how to restore the launching icon since it appears to have been wiped from the harddrive?

Hi vin, welcome to the Mac world.
The little icon that looks like @ on a spring is nothing but a web location. If you click on it and your browser isn't running it will launch your browser and then open the web page it references. I believe the original was a link to Apple. If you want it back just click on the wee little icon at the start of a URL in your browser address space and hold that click while you drag it to the Trash side of the Dock.
You can add and substract anything you want to the Dock--just drag whatever it is to the Dock or from the Dock. Applications go on the side of the Dock with the Finder icon, other things on the side with the Trash. Running Applications (there should be a little triangle next to the ones that are running) can't be removed while running.
I strongly suggest you get David Pogue's Missing Manual book on Tiger, you will discover many many things to help you get the most from your new Mac.

  • Make Safari thumbnails permanent in the dock?

When I have a Safari window minimized, it appears as a thumbnail on the right side of the Dock.  But when I click on it to make the window appear again on the screen, the thumbnail disappears.  Which means that I can't just use the thumbnails in the Dock to quickly switch back and forth between Safari windows…the only way to maintain this is to manually minimize the Safari window each time I want to switch to another window.  On a Windows PC it's easy…the browser window thumbnails simply stay in the tray at the bottom, allowing you to just click back and forth to activate whichever browser window you want.
Is there a way to force a Mac to emulate this?  Just have all Safari windows appear as thumbnails in the dock no matter which ones are minimized or maximized at any given time?

This how it is done in Yosemite.
I don't have Mountain Lion installed to test.
    System Preferences > Dock
Enable "Minimize windows into application icon".
Click yellow navigational button to minimize  windows into  Safari icon in the Dock.
Once windows are minimized, right click on the Safari icon in the Dock and select the desired window.
Windows will be listed with a diamond icon beside.

  • Why has my safari icon disappeared from the applications bar after the recent software update?

Everything was working perfectly until I uploaded the most recent software update. When I restarted my laptop I found that the Safari icon had disappeared from my applications bar.  If I go to my 'recent places' and click on Safari it then reappears but only until I close the laptop down as the next time I start it up, it's nowhere to be seen.  Can anyone help?

by applications bar you mean "dock"? After you click on recent places and start safari it will reappear in the dock and at this point you will want to control + click (right click) on the SAFARI icon and hover to options, make sure that "KEEP IN DOCK" has a check mark next to it. If it does not, click that option. Now it will keep the Safari Icon in your dock.
