we purchased the license for a 3rd clusternode (sles10.3+oes2sp3).
Are there any special license related steps with the installation of a third node (activation, registration etc.) or is it just like installing a second node?

The license is pure paper only, no technical steps necessary to use it.
Just add the third node regularly.

Question about adding an Extra Node to SOFS cluster

Hi, I have a fully functioning SOFS cluster, with two nodes, it uses SAN FC storage, Not SAS JBODS. its running about 100VM's in production at the moment.
Both my nodes currently sit on one blade chassis, but for resiliency, I want to add another node from a blade chassis in our secondary onsite smaller DC.
I've done plenty of cluster node upgrades before on SQL and Hyper-V , but never with a SOFS cluster.
I have the third node fully prepaired, it can see the Disks the FC Luns, on the SAN (using powerpath, disk manager) and all the roles are installed.
so in theory I can just add this node in the cluster manager and it should all be good, my question is has anyone else done this, and is there anything else I should be aware of, and what's the best way to check the new node will function , and be able
to migrate the File role over without issues. I know I can run a validation when adding the node, I presume this is the best option ?
cannot find much information on the web about expanding a SOFS cluster.
any advice or information would be greatfully received !!

Sorry for the delay in reply.
As you said there is no much information which related to add a node to a SOFS cluster.
The only ones I could find is related to System Center (VMM):

However adding a node to SOFS cluster should be simple as you just prepared. You can have a try and see the result.

Windows 7 won't boot after adding a third partition with gparted

I needed extra space on my bootcamp partition so I :
1. resized macintosh hd partition with disk utility
2.booted with gparted live disk and "growed" the bootcamp partition
Now Windows doesn't boot. Any suggestions?

So what is the right one ?

Adding a third (down" behavior to my navigation buttons

Hello, I've designed my first two-state navigation bar using
DW-generated behaviors (Javascripts).
I have an "up" (inactive) graphic, and a "mouseover" graphic
working. I also have a "down" state
graphic created, but don't see how I would apply that in
Dreamweaver. This means I have to go
in and modify the nav bar on every page (swapping out the
"up" graphic for the down, as the default),
a real hassle.
I'd like to modify the Javascript so that the "down" state
button is displayed whenever
the browser address = the page's address (when you've landed
on that page).
I don't see a way to do that in DW, but perhaps there is a
way? Or would it require
manual JavaScript coding?
If I can get the third (down) state added to every button in
the nav bar, then I would be able to maintain
ONE nav bar and just replicate it on every page. What would
be the proper way to set that up, so changing the
nave bar one place would change it everywhere (without using
templates?).

I've also attached the code for the table that the nav bar sets
in, on the "attach code" button.
I am going to have to rework my button graphics, don't like
the way they turned out (dark at the center when active),
but that is an easy task in Fireworks. I'm more concerned

I think I may have figured out how to do (at least part of)
this in DW. My new
'nav bar code) is attached. I added a third behavior,
onMouseDown,
but the third ("down") graphic doesn't work reliably on all
buttons.
Wonder if I should have used the "onKeyDown" behavior
instead?
I want the darker button to display when you're on a page.
I manually copied the nav bar to each of the 10 pages. At
least it's now
the same for every page. But I would like to have a way
(without using
frames or templates) to keep the nav bar in one place, and
just "invoke"
or call it, on every page it's used.
I also fixed the button graphics... that was the easy part:)
Am I approaching this reasonably correctly, without getting
too fancy?

Hi,
The JLaunch starts a Java program. It loads the JVM into its own address space and then represents the required cluster element. The program can receive notification from the JControl process via named pipes to stop the cluster element, and terminates, if the JControl stops running (fork emulation under Windows).
So Jlaunch consuming high CPU time means that server, dispatcher or bootstrap process consume it. If there are not enough system or application threads avaliable means that the engine must buffering requests for web application or system processes. Things to check in this case are:
SAP NOTE 1016241 - J2EE Engine hangs because of unsufficient system threads
SAP note: 716604 and upgrade JDK.
SAP note: 723909 -> set correct VM parameters
and if issue persists, then you will need to analyse the application causing teh leak...
SAP note: 1259465: Memory analyser.

Adding a Third Display

Hi,
I run Apple 30" and 23" displays off an ATI 1900. These handle most of my 'real' work, but I still find I could do with more real estate for things like, iTunes, Safari, et al (i.e. low demand applications). What would be my best (not necessarily cheapest, but cheapest not to compromise my rig) option for adding a third display? Can I mix ATI and nVidia in the same machine without worries? Presumably, if I have a lower powered GPU for the third display, providing I keep the power apps on the original two, I don't lose any performance? (Incidentally, what are the impacts on performance if I ran, say Photoshop or Apertue's main winodws off the 1900, and the palettes off a lower powered card? Can't get my head round this).
(BTW, I would probably be looking at another 23" ACD or maybe a Dell equivalent – if there is such a thing!).

The best option would be to simply get a second ATi X1900 XT. Apple don't recommend mixing card so I wouldn't go for a cheaper Nvidia 7300 GT.

Questions about adding a 3rd node on a 2-node RAC cluster

I have created a 2-node cluster on 1 VMServer machine following the steps as described in RAC11gR1-OVM-template-TestConfiguration.pdf
Now want to add a third node as documented in Appendix B of this document, but this is not clear to me.
Here it is stated in step 7: "Do not run this procedure on a node with RAC software already configured.", while on the other hand step 9 says you need to run the Add Node procedure with the -noCopy option since the software is already loaded on the new node. This seems a conflicting message to me.
Can anyone clarify this?
Can't I just add a node using this procedure when you already have a 2 node cluster up and running?

Step 7 says to run on the new node this to setup the network:
"Invoke the network configuring script in silent mode as root on the new VM:
# /u01/clone/netconfig.sh -n3
Flag -n3 means 3rd node, -n4 would be 4th node, etc. Do not run this procedure on a node with RAC software already configured."
Step 9: says to run addNode.sh, as normally in the documentation, this is run from existing cluster member. You need to add the -noCopy flag so that software doesn't get copied to the new VM, since the software is already there, it is not configured or running yet, but the software is there.
In such procedures it's often the case you need to run some commands on existing, and some on new node(s). I think the misunderstanding is that software existing on the VM doesn't mean it's running or configured.
This entire process is fully automated in the 11.2 templates.

Parent of Top node is getting added as Orphan node

When I am trying to import the below test import file in DRM 11.1.2 -

the parent of top node P000000 which is 'None' as defined in System preferences , is getting added as an Orphan node. We dont want any orphan node to be created.
Can someone please help in avoiding this.

Adding Java Server nodes Causes msgs to send multiple times

i added 2 more server nodes in our system for load distribution and after turning on the comm channel, i see that every msg goes three times now.
I have tried removing these 2 server nodes and then it sends it one time only. I dont know whats wrong and why it sends a msg three times with three server nodes.
Can anybody help me with this?

With which adapter(s) are you having this issue ? I had a consultant from SAP tell me to avoid multiple JVM nodes with JDBC, and maybe he said file too. He didn't have a solution, just sounds like it doesn't work too well (yet).

Improve Portal performance with BI-Java by adding additional server node.

In an environment with BI-Java and Portal Java stack installed on the same server, is it possible to improve the system performance by adding additional portal server node? or is there any improvement seen by adding the extra server node?
I am after suggestion and experience on how the portal performance can be improve, with consideration of BI-Java sharing Portal resources.

We've this configuration at our site, Portal and BI running together (not federated). Recommendations would be to:
1. Set a sensibly large max heap size on each server node of Portal (at least 2GB if not larger) and implement several nodes at least. For example we have 4 x physical nodes, each running 3 server nodes of 2GB max heap size apiece so a total of 12 nodes.
2. Implement the BI Safety Belt for large results sets (1127156)
3. Implement the latest JVM / JDK you can on your environment. We found much improved performance after implementing JDK SR10 with the J9/2.3 options enabled e.g., -Xjvm:j9vm23
-Xsoftrefthreshold0
4. Patch your BI components on the Portal (BIBASES, BIWEBAPP etc) to the latest available patch level for your Portal SP level
5. Make sure all your RFC connections are load balanced to the backend and tuned for the kind of load you expect on your reports, and the BI is sized appropriately in terms of app servers and dialog work processes, RFC-enabled login groups in SMLG etc.
6. Consult notes 1048691 (especially useful, opions &PROFILING=X&TRACE=X added to reports for example for performance tracing), 937697, 1021921, 948158 for information about problem analysis for this scenario
7. Implement SAP Web Dispatcher for Portal to reduce load on static mime files
8. Tune the Portal application. There's plenty information on SDN related to Portal performance tuning.

Adding a third hard drive without an extra controller...

I've got a G4 PowerMac (800MHz single CPU, a QuickSilver I think) for which I'd like to add a third drive without (if possible) adding an extra IDE controller in. Now the only obvious spot is in the floppy tray under the CDRW. Unfortunately the side holes in the tray don't quite line up with the HDD mounting holes, so I thought about drilling through the bottom of the tray to use the bottom holes.
The IDE cable isn't long enough (and I haven't found any long enough) to connect to the existing expansion spaces for hard drives and then to the CDRW.
Other than modifying the floppy/tape/zip tray, any suggestions?
