Adding a Vignette in Motion?

Okay so I have a psd file (picture) that has a pan effect placed on it. I want to add a vignette around the whole thing but once I add the vignette filter it does it makes it (obviously) around the whole picture. Now I need a fixed vignette to stay there? Anyway of doing this? Vignette is an effect so it needs to be placed on something that is fixed and transparent. I could make on in Photoshop but I want to better my Motion skills and figure how i would do this.. in the mean time i will continue trying

Okay so I have a psd file (picture) that has a pan effect placed on it...
I am not using a psd file.
So, which is it?
Mark is saying that if you place the vignette effect on the Group, and then animate the psd layer instead of the group, then you'll have a stationary vignette.

  • Locking Vignette to Motion Track in FCP, Can it be done?

    Hello All,
I have been watching a tutorial about Apple's Color and there was one section that
used a motion track and connected a vignette to that track. I thought it was neat and
convenient, so the question is, can that be done in Final Cut or the second choice would
    be Motion?
The process was elegant in Color but that puts the effect late in post, at out put stage. I know
something similar can be accomplished with key frames. The idea that a motion track can
    control an effect is intriguing.
    Thank you, Tom

FCP does not have motion tracking. You can send the clip to Motion and Motion track the effect there.

  • Adding Effects like slow motion, fast motion etc...

On the old imovie you could add animations, slow motion/fast motion, and other graphics to clips. How do you do the same with imove 08 most important the slow motion feature?

I'm currently using iMovie 08 and I would switch to iMovie 06 but when I try to install it but the message "Please install iLife ’08 before installing iMovie HD 6" pops up. My computer went through a hard drive crash recently and when they replaced it I thought they popped in iLife '08 (hence being stuck with iMovie 08) but i dunno... suggestions?

  • Motion 2.1.2 crashes, quits unexpectedly, seemingly at random

Bear with me, as I am a relatively new Mac owner; however, I did try to first find, and read, all of the existing posts concerning this same topic, beforehand. I thank you in advance your input, and will mark this thread as "solved" or "helped" if we can get this issue resolved.
I have a Quad G5, running 10.4.8 with 2.5 Gb of RAM, and using the GeForce 6600 video card. In the FCP suite of programs, I have had no problems running Final Cut or DVD Studio (can't say I have found a use for Soundtrack Pro yet).
Motion, on the other hand, has crashed a great deal, and with baffling irregularity. It often aborts on loading (I'd say about 1 out of every 5 of 6 tries to open the problem). Sometimes it crashes when I try to create a new project or open an existing one. In order to dedicate my resources to Motion, I have been closing all other programs before launching.
Other times, I have been working in Motion, and it terminates unexpectedly. This has yet to happen when working with text (unlike many others who have posted here about Motion crashing). Also, I am not using any 3rd party filters. Two of the most recent crashes happened after trying to apply the Basic 3D filter to a replicated object. Another crash occurred when I tried to play a 10 second clip I was working on, with the Light Streaks 1.mov in one of the layers.
Following the advice on the motionsmarts site, I have checked the "fixed resolution" flag of each layer as I create them. I have also been keeping the projects at 8-bit Bit Depth.
The following are some of the header entries in the Motion crash log from the most recent abends:

    Quad G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   2.5 Gb RAM, nVIDIA GeForce 6600

Finally placed a call with Apple support, and they also recommended trashing my preferences. I tried to do that before, but I was apparently looking in the wrong directory (whoops). The correct library is user -> library -> preferences and then the file is "com.apple.motion.plist", just in case others are looking in the wrong location.
I am going to leave this question as unanswered for now, because I want to work with Motion for a few more days before I mark this as "solved". However, at this time, Motion has not crashed once, and I have been giving it a real workout.
The other recommendation from the tech, in case trashing the preferences doesn't work, was to remove the 2 Gb of RAM I added, and then use Motion for awhile. That will be my next step if Motion acts up any in the next few days of testing.
Some things to keep in mind if you are having the problem with Motion crashing:
    - Trash your preferences and then reboot
    - Try to remove any devices since the program last worked, and try Motion without them. If that works, then re-add those components and test Motion again.
    - Upgrade Motion AND the FCP suite (don't just upgrade Motion by itself).
    - Uninstall any 3rd party filters and test again.
These are just some of the recommendations the tech gave me. Like I've said, it looks like my problem has been resolved, but I'm not counting those chickens just yet. I will post again to this thread if it hasn't crashed in the next 5 -7 days.

  • Full-motion Video

OK, I have cerated a number of chapters in an onlien tutorial
and they are all working fine. But now I am creating one chapter
that will need to utilize a long (20-30 secs.) of full-motion
video. When I do the capture, and switch over to full-motion (F9),
it appears everything is fine. I switch back (F10) and then end my
    recording.
The first issue is that Captivate breaks up the full-motion
section into several segments, resulting in a visible glitch
between them when playing back. (I am also finding that the program
crashes frequently when working with full-motion, so I am saving
    and restarting frequently.)
But the real problem comes in playback over the web. There
seems to be a problem in the file picking up the swf video at the
right moment and I am sometimes seeing nothing but a black screen.
If I play the file a few times, then it seems to load and play back
OK, but is there anything I can do to ensure a consistent playback?
    Thanks!

    Hi Ray,
You are experiencing "normal behavior" for the use you are
putting Captivate to. It was never designed as a full motion video
capture tool. I won't argue whether or not the marketing people
ever said it was capable of doing what you say you bought it to do,
but I really doubt they would make a claim that everyone knows is
not true ... if you can find something official from Adobe
asserting that, I'd sure be interested in seeing it.
The full motion feature was intended to be used to
demonstrate 2-3 second drag-and-drop operations, or use of a
scroll bar action of about that duration. In addition, you stated
you are capturing at 1024x768 size, which is an image of truly
gigantic proportions - adding to the full motion load you are
already throwing at the product. Could it be that another product
is better suited for what you want to do? I'd consider that
seriously because you are asking more of Captivate than I believe
it can deliver on anything but a machine designed for 2015
    processor speeds with infinite resources.
It is especially sad that you own and used Captivate 1.0.1,
then spent an additional 30 days using the Trial version of
Captivate 2.0 ... but are just now finding it doesn't do what you
thought it should do. Again, sorry for your trouble.

  • How to motion blur an object into a scene?

I am using match move to attach an image to an object in my video.  The object sometime moves around enough where there is significant motion blur.  Obviously I need the image that I am adding to match this motion blur.  The motion blur filter doesn't seem to work for this (at least by itself).  All it does it make the image blurry within side of the bounds of the image.  The motion blur in any given frame is happening along a path, and the image needs to be stretched along that path as well as blurred into the background.  How do I accomplish this effect?

    Hi,
You can turn on motion blur. Have a look in the view menu to turn this on. Have a look in the project properties to set the number of samples and shutter angle.  However this is a per project setting rather than by layer.
Or you could a directional blur and keyframe the amount as you need.

  • Full Motion Video - memory leak?

    Good afternoon.
I am using captivate 1.01.1418.1418 to record and present
standalone demos of rich client web technologies. The default
capturing techniques just don't cut it, so I need to record the
entire demo in full motion video.
What I have noticed is that when you edit the video AND ALSO
when running the published demo using either stand-alone or swf
object methods that there is a huge memory leak. I am talking to
the magnitude of 20-25 meg / second while displaying full motion
    video.
My latest presentation is 22 slides where 3 of them are short
full motion video clips recorded at 1024x768 with no audio. The
    clips are between 30-90 seconds.
The generated output exe is 6 megs and if I generate it with
all compression off it is 11 megs. When I run it, my memory usage
goes to 1.7 GIG of Physical Memory and over 2 GIG of Virtual Memory
in use. The movie playback then turns solid red and my machine
hangs up until I can manage to kill the playback.
Is there a known issue with full motion video and memory
leaks? I can understand if it took more memory to run it, but using
3+ gig of RAM to play a 10 meg file? Something sounds off to me.
I had purchased this product to record and display full
motion demos and so far it has not been able to meet the needs it
    promised to deliver.
Any help anyone provides is greatly appeciated.
Please respond here and/or email me at
    [email protected]
Thanks in advance for your time.

P.S. I remember seeing the same behavior on my trial version
of Captivate 2, however, my trial has expired and I cannot see if
the leak is of the same magnitude.

  • Iphoto 7.1.3 - cropping the vignette

In previous versions of iPhoto I often added a vignette to a B&W copy of my original picture, saved the picture, re-opened it, then cropped almost almost all of the vignette out, so that I only had a very small amount of the it showing on the corners which looks 'normal'. In the new version of iPhoto, when I crop the saved photo, the original vignette comes back which is NOT what I want at all. I am using version 7.1.3. Any suggestions?

    EStav:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. What's happening with the V7 vignette is that a vignette mask is created and applied to the photo. If you crop the photo the same mask is applied to the cropped area just enlarging the visible part in the vignette.
To do what you want you now have to export the file and reimport as a new photo and crop that one. A bummer, I know. Otherwise get a 3rd party editor that you can do all of that in one step and then save.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Wireframe & Adding Dissolves

I'm putting together a simple picture video for the first time in FCP. I'm adding little zooms in and out and dissolving between each picture. However, 1: it seems like a ton of rendering time 2. My wireframe effects go away if I put them anywhere near the dissolve.
Isn't it possible to have the picture moving as it dissolves in? Any ideas what I'm doing wrong or a better way to do it.
    Thanks!

By "wireframe effects" I think she's referring to the basic motion effects that she applied (scale, centering, rotation, etc). They don't disappear, but if transitions were added AFTER keyframing the motion, the motion doesn't carry through the handle duration that were added to the clip by the transitions.
For example, you have a 4 second still image duration and apply a scale effect from 57% at the first frame to 68% at the last frame. Then you add a 30 frame transition to the beginning and end. In doing so, you've actually added 15 frames BEFORE your starting keyframe and 15 frames AFTER the ending keyframe, so any scale effect isn't seen until the playhead hits the first keyframe.
To do it properly, you'll need to load your clip into the Viewer window and click on the Motion tab after adding the transitions. Hit Shift i to move the playhead to the first frame of the clip and add the initial keyframe there. Then hit Shift o to go to the last frame of the clip and add the ending keyframe. Next, delete any previous keyframes that were added before the transitions were applied.

  • Creating vignette

I have some DV footage I am editing in FCS2 and I am putting a vignette on it using the filter inside of Final Cut Pro. When I play the footage in the timeline there is a somewhat noticeable gradation to the vignette which is still there after rendering and exporting the video.
My question is would I be better of creating this effect in Motion and exporting using an animation codec or an uncompressed 8 or 10-bit setting? If so, how do I bring this back into FCP in a dv timeline and still retain the quality of the codec exported out of Motion?

I had done an export and then watched the resulting file in QT and had pretty much the same results. I have since tried doing the vignette in Motion and having the project setting at 32-bit float and then changed my sequence setting in FCP to high-precision and have gotten better results. I am curious though if I could have gotten these same results from the vignette filter in FCP without going to Motion. Would me simply having changed the sequence setting in FCP and using the filter there likely achieve as good a result?

  • Labview 7.0 VI with Motion doesn't work standalone

I have a vi that uses NI-Motion to control 4 axis. I built it in Labview 7.0 Professional. If I run the VI directly in Labview it communicates with the motion controllers just fine. However, if I build a standalone executable using the Build Application tool. The executable does NOT communicate with the motion system. In the build application step I didn't see any setting for adding something related to motion. My vi does include Port I/O and VISA, but that is for other parts of it. What did I do wrong?

    Hi Kirk,
You are probably missing the NI Motion driver on the target machine. Make sure you have it installed.

  • Ssible to add multiple e

    Hi All,
Is it possible to add multiple effects to a single video clip? For example, adding a vignette and film grain?
    Many Thanks

Unfortunately you can't add all at once. But you save a lot of time by the copy/paste method (double-tap at a mail address, tap "copy", go to the "Contacts" app, enter the contact you want to paste the address in, tap "Mail address", then double tap again and tap "paste").

  • "Lassooing" or isolating a part of a photo for editing

Is there a tool in Aperture where you can isolate or lassoo one section of the photo and edit only on that part?
More specifically, while shooting football or baseball I often have to isolate dark faces and / or shadows on faces, and lighten only them, and not bleaching out white uniforms at the same time.
    Thanks

I've been asking for this since v.1.0. In wedding photography we often need to light up faces. If I could do this in Aperture as well as adding a vignette I could adjust 95% of a wedding album with no round trips to photoshop.
Use the Aperture Feedback web and hopefully we'll see it soon.
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/aperture.html
LightZone can do this right now but I prefer photoshop as external editor so doesn't really fit in my workflow.

  • Still Images In FCE

Working with 3 still photos as a test I have taken to 2 Procare Sessions. Using DV-NTSC Easy Setup for output in TV aspect ratio burned through iDVD.
When adding a push in motion via 2 keyframes the photo "swims". A 2nd photo with a 360 degree rotation and moving from full frame to 10% is jagged edged, and "swims".
The workaround my session instructor settled on was to create in 1080i Easy Setup, then copy the sequence to NTSC and change the aspect ratio of each photo. This improves the swimming and edges, but they still are present. (This also resulted in something he was stumped with: why the Export-Quick Time file from 1080i was worse than the Export-Quick Time conversion using the same codec. He suggested I try this forum for answers.) If I can work in widescreen and lose the "swimming" it is something I can offer clients.
The JPEG images ARE large enough resolution for the motion. I have tried TIFF, png and every kind of NTSC safe color in Photoshop Elements, as well as trying the gaussian blur in both Photoshop and also FCE. The blur only degrades the images. I have tried interlacing, de-interlacing, sharpening, flicker filter, image de-stablizer filter, de-saturate filter, adjust brightness. I have spent a month testing this issue.
I view on a TV monitor. There must be an answer as this program has stunning color and clarity.
I have used a PC program for clients with better image results (but lacking the controls from FCE). iPhoto doesn't have the swimming but also doesn't have the control I need from FCE, nor the quality of colors.
I am hoping someone has an answer. Thank you, Brenda
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Tom,
Thank you for your help. I am making progress. For the first time I was able to work in DV-NTSC Easy Setup.
    My original image: 1 MB jpg, 1020 X 1419 - a client scanned I am guessing 600 dpi - since this was a 4 X 6 print.
After testing I had good results with adding the 1 pixel vertical blur you suggested to this original file, still over 1 MB and dimensions same. Swimming was next to nothing.
When I resized 720 X 540 the image was distorted (I followed your link and thought "unconstrained" was to be de-selected...perhaps not?, haven't retested yet.). When I changed the aspect ratio in Motion in FCE to 60 the image was normal AND I lost the "swimming". This file is 720 X 540, 504 KB.
Is the answer lying in perhaps the file was way too big? Doesn't make sense to me, but I don't code programs
Thank you so very much! I will be glad to be able to begin working with the tools of FCE.
I DO set the QT Conversion to "High". Is this better than "Best"?
    Thanks, again,
