Adding a web link to a page design

I am a new user of Portals and currently learning the product. I have been trying to figure out how to add a portlet that simply displays an external web page (e.g. web.mit.edu as an example). I created a link object under the application tab but even though I have full authorities to publish portlets, the publish option does not appear for this object type. I realize this is a pretty elementary question, but I'd appreciate anyone advising me how to accomplish this. I'm probably overlooking the obvious. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Actually, you aren't overlooking the obvious. The best way to do this is via the URL portlet that is available from the PDK site. You install the portlet and are able to use the customization to point to a specific URL. In the latest release of the PDK, we released the URL services which extend the capabilities to allow things like authentication etc. You can get to the PDK via the Portal Page on OTN.

Is it possible to add web links or text or even tool tip texts to parts of FIM?
For example, I would like to add a compliance statement for photos in the FIM portal so that when users choose to upload their own photos, they're prompted with a statement about acceptable and professional photos. I haven't seen any customization examples

Adding a web link to the timeline

Is it possible to add a web link to a FCP timeline so that it is clickable in a QuickTime movie? It looks like you can do this in iMovie using markers, but I can't find anyway to do this for FCP.

Poor Performance of OBIEE url after adding BI Publisher link in a page

Hi Gurus,
I've added a BI Publisher report link in my existing OBIEE dashboard page.
After adding this BIP link,the performance of the obiee url becomes very poor.....and it's taking around 10-15 to open the page.
Earlier it use to open with in 5-10 secs.
Is there any resolution for this.
Any help will be more appreciated.

I have been able to improve processing speed up to
6-8 times with these two techniques:
1. A separate trickle thread was created that would
periodically call DbEnv::memp_trickle. This works
especially good on multicore machines, but also
speeds things up a bit on single CPU boxes. This

1. what was the % of clean pages that you specified?
2. What duration were you clling this thread to call memp_trickle?

I've dragged my Facebook, Google , Twitter and LinkedIn icons into the Signature box of Mail. Is there a way of adding the web links behind each icon? i.e. like PC Outlook

I've just purchased a new MacBook Pro and am having problems with the Signature section of Mail. I've added Facebook, Google+, Twitter and LinkedIn logos to my Siganture, however the associated weblinks behind each logo are not copying across. Is there a way of adding the website links to each logo in the Signature section of Mail?

Firefox 10 - Needing to Click on web links twice before page loads

Hi all
Any one else got the same problem as me? I've upgraded to Firefox 10 on two systems now and have the same problem on both, When you click on a weblink, some times you need to click on the link twice or press F5 before the new page loads. it dont happen all the time. It kinda bugs you after some time lol Never had this problem on pass versions of FF, crome and IE seem to work fine

You may have an add-on doing this. Start FF in [[Safe Mode]] and see if the issue still persists. If it doesn't disbale your add-ons one by one to see which one is the main one causing this issue.

Web links open black page and no file is downloaded

Problem started under Lion, and continues under Mountain Lion: When I click on a Download link, the path of the file displays in the address field and the page goes black, but no file is downloaded. On links that allow it (not from the Flash Player, Skype, Mozilla, or Chrome download pages, for example), I can control-click to download a file. Under the Downloads button, if you erase the list, the button disappears. Before I had tried to download via control-click, that button wouldn't appear, not even among the toolbar customization options. I have upgraded to Mountain Lion, re-installed Mountain Lion, to no effect. Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

Web link work around for Pages

As of March 2014 Apple hasn't fixed the Export to PDF preserving web links bug! Pages 5.1 build 1769. This means that any PDFs you create from Pages won't have clickable web links past the first page.
Here are the work arounds that I have found so far.
In Pages keep your document to 1 page. Web links on the first page are fine.
In Pages 5 choose File > Export > Pages '09 and then on your Mac if you have an older version of Pages '09 in your applications folder, open it and open your exported file. Now when you export the PDF the web links will be there. If you don't have the older Pages '09 see the next solution.
Use a free web tool like PDF Escape to recreate the web links. PC like interface and you have to be careful to not leave the web page or you'll reset everything, but I found it was really helpful in copy/pasting the web links from Pages to PDF Escape. Didn't seem to work with HTTPS links, but others were fine. http://www.pdfescape.com
If anyone sees an inexpensive or free solution on the Mac App Store please share. Adobe Acrobat Pro CC or CS will also work, but it is too expensive for most folks.

i don't know about handling the multi tier issue but you can easily put an instance into the ServletContext that keeps track of the associations between users and sessions and can react accordingly.

How to open files from web links in safari

II can't figure out to get a file downloaded from a web link into numbers, pages, etc.

I think the App that uses the files must have its own web access to be able to download. Perhaps another App that has web download capability can act as an intermediary using the "Open In" option.
One candidate might be GoodReader. It has some web download and file transfer capability, and does have the Open In option. However, it apparently must be able to read a file before you can get to the Open In option.
Another approach is to use iTunes on your computer. With the iPad connected to the computer, run iTunes and select the iPad under DEVICES. Click on Apps at the top of the window and scroll down to File Transfer. If an App appears there, data files can be synced to it by selecting it and dropping the files in a folder in the right hand window.

In version 3.6 I can not open a website link from original page, I keep getting a new window that is blank and asking me to put in a web address. What has changed with the new version?

When on a page if I click on a web link I get a new window that is blank and asks me enter a web address. This started happening with the new 3.6 version. It seems to have something to do with what I choose for the location in my privacy settings as the window changes with each setting but I still cannot get to the new site. Any ideas? I have no problem with this in IE and I have to keep opening IE when I encounter the problem on Firefox which is annoying.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.

Web Link to Open to a Specific Page

I have a pdf document that contains links to other pdf documents. This document is fully functional on our network. I am trying to transfer this set of documents to an on-line file management system. I have almost accomplished this goal with the exception of not being able to have the on-line links open to a specific page in a document. It is possible to do this on the network by going into link properties and adding the action, go to a page in another document. Then you can edit it to open to specific page, for example page 6. Is there a way to specify a page on the on-line file management system?
