Adding a youtube video in iBook Author

I am trying to add a youtube video to my template in iBook Author.  What is the easest way?  Thanks

I don't have a way at the moment to upload. I tried and had a few others try while watching the video and still the same result. When you go to preview the button is present and does launch a blank lightbox without content(youtube video). The youtube video that was drug into the light box displays all the time unless you select the light box trigger and then the light box pops up over the video. I think what is happening is that the video is not inside the container. I have tried several times selecting the container, button as in video and inserting the <iframe embed code but still have the same result.

Only the advertisement from the video plays.

  • How do you add visual video controls to widget video in ibooks author?

How do you add video controls to video using ibooks author?

I have the same question as VideoImage. I would like the controls to appear in some of my videos so that the reader can speed them up or slow them down. This would save me having to run them through iMovie at 4X say and saving them that way. As far as I can see, the video fast forward, fast reverse, go to end, go to beginning controls only appear in the Widget inspector. What is their purpose then?

  • Embedding video in iBooks Author

After embedding a video in iBooks Author, the screen on the iPad stays all black after playing, without showing any steering tools. I need to tip again the screen to get play, rewind, finishing etc. Is there a setting I miss?

I have had the same problem. But when I go to the Inspector, Widget and move the slider for Poster Frame, the Inspector does not allow it to stay there. It goes back to the beginning of the slider, and nothing is then displayed when the video is seen on an iBooks page when the iBooks is either previewed or exported to display on an iPad. Any suggestions?

  • Not able to add video to iBooks Author

A few weeks ago I started tinkering with iBooks Author. I really like it, very easy to work with. I'd also tried to add some movies and that's where it is getting frustrating... I simply cannot add movies. Whatever I try...
Of course I read the help page, browsed Apple support and apparently all I need to do is open a video with Quicktime X, choose export, select iPad and hit the button, but, it simply doesn't work. Whatever I try, I get the message "The media file "test.m4v" wasn't added. One or more video tracks are unsupported."
Here's what I tried so far:
    - Youtube video (mp4) -> Quicktime X -> export to iDevice : Not working
    - Youtube video (mp4) -> Quicktime 7 -> export to mov -> Quicktime X -> export to iDevice : Not working
    - Youtube video (flv) -> Quicktime 7 -> export to mov -> Quicktime X -> export to iDevice : Not working
    - Youtube video (flv) -> Handbrake -> export to iPad -> Quicktime X -> export to iDevice : Not working
    - iPhone 4S video (mov) -> Quicktime X -> export to iPad : Not working
    - iPhone 4S video (mov) -> Quicktime 7 -> export with different settings -> Quicktime X -> export to iPad : Not working
    - Part from a DVD rip by handbrake -> Quicktime X -> export to iPad : Not working
    - Part from a DVD rip by handbrake -> Quicktime 7 -> export with different settings -> Quicktime X -> export to iPad : Not working
    - New video in iMovie -> export to mobile -> Quicktime X -> export to iDevice: Not working
    - New video in iMovie -> export to iTunes -> Quicktime X -> export to iDevice: Not working
    - New video from within Quicktime X  -> export to iDevice: Not working
What the **** am I doing wrong here? Am I missing something? Is it simple too easy for me to see?
In general, Quicktime X poops out the following:
These are settings from a newly created video with my iSight camera. Nothing fancy...
Anyone have an idea on how to proceed?
/edit: to add: I normally have Perian running, but for the sake of testing disabled it. The non-youtube tests are done without it...

    David,
I know you've already solved your problem, but just in case you need to add in some of those components back for some reason....
I had a similar issue, but once I used Apple's "Compressor" app it solved all my problems.  It did require paying for "Compressor" but it was worth it, as I needed to keep some of the other components for other work.
And by using "Compressor" I was sure all my files were as tiny as possible.  "Compressed" to the maximum so to speak.
Our book had tons of video: it's an American Sign Language (video on every page) and English (audio and text on every page).  So making sure our files were as small as possible was important.
    Thanks for sharing your solution.
If anyone is curious, here is our American Sign Language & English book, using Compressor, here it is:

  • HT204391 youtube support in ibooks author v2?

    Hi y'all
I started creating an ebook in ibooks author version 1 that included a widget I found on the 'net that embedded a youtube video that played from the web. There's also http://bookry.com/author/widget/library/youtube/ widget and http://ibooksgenerator.com
I've since upgraded to version 2 and started working on this ebook again.
however, now, none of the widgets that played youtube videos work any more. When I tap on the video in the preview on my iPad, all I get is a white box and the video isn't visible nor does it play (i don't hear any audio or see video).
I've also seen on another thread something about Apple not approving books any more with videos that play from the web as they expect them to be included in the book so it could be played offline. (reference https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4005675?start=0&tstart=0)
I've spent several hours trying to figure out if this will work (and not having any success). Do any of you have any advice?

Well, heck, I don't know what I've done, but a different day seems to be the player solution... ha! It works today.
I still don't know if I'm going to be kicked out of the ibookstore with my book, but the videos are playing now in my ebook.

  • How do you use a photo as a placeholder for a video in ibooks author?

I am having trouble in ibooks author, I am trying to use a still photo as the place holder for a video, so what I want to do is when you click on the picture, a video will start playing. If anyone knows how to do it, please let me know, thanks!

iBooks Author lets you use an image, such as a .PNG (even one with transparency) as a poster image for your video. When tapped, this image will open your video in full-screen mode.
To do this, first drag your video file onto the page in iBooks Author to create a video widget. Select the widget and, in the Inspector panel under the Widget options, choose the Interaction tab, and check "Full-screen only" (Note: Using a separate image as a placeholder will only work if this option is checked).
Next, simply find the photo file you'd like to use as your poster image—it can be any file, not necessarily a frame from your video—and drag it over the video widget on the page until you see the edges highlighted in blue, and release. That image is now the placeholder for the video, and when tapped it will launch your video in full-screen mode.

  • Converting and compressing mp4 video for iBook Author

I'm working on an iBook on Propaganda in WW II and would like to include loads of videos.
The Internet Archive has a great collection:
Example: "Out of the Frying Pan Into the Firing Line (1942)"
    http://archive.org/details/OutOfTheFryingPanIntoTheFiringLine
Most are in mp4 format.  I have tried bringing the mp4 into QT or iMovie and both seem to do about the same job of converting. Plus they increase file size by about 50%
    Primary question
I'm targeting my iBook as a free resource for schools. File size is an issue for school iPads that might be 16 GB. Is there anyway to reduce file size, without losing quality? I saw some discussions about Compressor, but that seems to be designed for Final Cut Pro and I'm not a video expert.
    Secondary question:
Is there any way to improve the quality of these old videos. Perhaps there are some settings I'm missing in QT or iMovie??
I'm an instructional design guy - not a video guy. Your suggestions will be greatly appreciated ... especially in  laymen's terms.
    Thanks

I'm keeping a "Working with IBA" collection at Scoop.it.
    http://www.scoop.it/t/publishing-with-ibooks-author
I posted a link to this discussion ... and I received a comment (at Scoop.it) from Frank Lowney that's interesting. I don't have Pages, but I may get it try this out. (cheaper than Compressor!)
    Frank comments:
"Strange but apparently true. I downloaded a 320x240 *.mp4 file from the Internet Archive and compressed it with the latest version of Handbrake using the iPhone/iPod touch preset. The result was 2.6 MB smaller that what I had downloaded. As predicted, iBooks Author rejected it suggesting I use QuickTime X Player. I did that using the iPod touch/iPhone 3GS preset but the result was a whopping 21.9 MB larger!
Let's remember that the sole target of what iBooks Author outputs is iBooks on the iPad, nothing else.
Next, I use Pages to create an *.epub file with the Handbrake encoded movie in it. Guess what? It plays just fine in iBooks!
    So something is fishy here."

  • Adding a youtube video light box pop up.

I have been trying to create a lightbox that pops up with a youtube video inside. I have followed Adobe Muse - Lightbox Effect for YouTube Video - YouTube, tutorial to the letter but it doesn't work. And I am completely out of ideas.

  • Anybody has been able to add a video to iBooks Author?

I followed the export instructions in the help but I always get the same error message: The media file “Untitled2.m4v” wasn’t added. The file is an unsupported format. My video is in 1280x720 resolution. This is what I did to export my video:
    Convert a video file
Open the file in QuickTime 10.1 or later.
    Choose File > Export.
    Do one of the following:
To create up to a 420p movie: Select “iPod touch & iPhone 3GS.”
To create up to a 720p movie: Select “iPad, iPhone 4 & Apple TV.”
The numbers refer to the number of vertical lines. For the best quality, select the 720p (iPad) option. If you’re concerned about file size or want better performance, use 420p (iPod touch).
    Click Export.
Add the exported file to the Media (or HTML) widget.
    No luck...

    hi Robert,
I'm able to do this in any plae within book (video in intro media or within video widget) - though I'm using 420p m4v vidoe content (generated with QT Player X as in help file).
Have you tried 420p movie size?
    regards,
    Peter

  • Videos in iBook Author

I am putting together an iBook that will include a large number of self-recorded videos of presentations I have made. I'm a bit nervious about the file size limitation of 2 gig but I don't know how to estimate the size of the book. Any suggestions/advice?

640 x 480 video looks decent on an iPad and works out to about 10 MB per minute. You can estimate the total size of your videos for that. For 720p video, it'll be larger. Just encode your video at the resolution you want and look at the file size to get an idea of the amount of space per minute.
    Michi.

  • HT5065 Why can't I upload m4v videos to iBooks Author?

I recently managed to add an m4v video to one of my books, after several days of trying, without succes, it finally worked, but without me changing anything. Now I have a new book, with a new video, (m4v) and this doesn't work as well. I get the note that one or more of the settings are not supported...
I converted the video files into m4v with Wondershare.

open your .mp4 or m4v in QuickTime 10
choose File > Export to > Web
in the resulting folder, use the size your need.
I have found that changing the extension to .m4a works well
    hope this helps

  • Creating a youtube widget in iAd Producer for Ibooks Author

    Hello,
I am trying to create a widget in iAd Producer to add to my iBooks Author template featuring a youtube video.
I am able to create and save the widget but when I place it into iBooks Author template I get a large gray box with a small black box in the center (the video).
Is there a way to correct this?
How can I eliminate the outer frame?
Any other suggestions on adding a youtube video to iBooks Author?
    Thank you.

  • Keynote slides with video - not linking in Ibooks Author

    Hi
I have a problem with linking Keynote slides containing videos in Ibooks author. I am using the latest version of both programs on Yosemity (6.5.2 keynote, Ibooks Author 2.2 )
The keynotes is set up with ‘Links Only’ and it works perfectly in Keynote. In Ibooks author the ‘link only’ is not working and the slides just progresses to next one. Like the Presentation type was set to normal, whether or not I press the link or outside the link. The exact same keynote slides without the video doesn’t have this problem and links perfectly in Ibooks Author. The result is the same testing the Ibook directly on the Mac or on the Ipad Air (8.1.2)
To make sure about the video types I tried a number of different ones (different Mac/Ipad video conversion programs) all with the same result. The result is also the same whether it plays ‘on page’ or ‘full-screen’ in the Ibook. The videos all plays perfectly but the links are not working.
Saving the keynote to 09 seemed to solve the problem. I am new to Ibooks author …. And the whole Mac environment. But I am thinking it’s supposed to work without having to do this????
The same happened when I tested a linked keynote example from Lynda.com. ‘Ibooks essential training’.  Only in the 09 version it was working with the links, when the slides had videos. This example was off course also created in an earlier Keynote version.

This is a problem that I've reported both here and via bugreport.apple.com. However, I don't think that it has to do with screen resolution (retina/non-retina). Rather, I think it has to do with setting the widget to "full screen" where transport controls cannot be used and selecting a "Links Only" presentation.
I used simple forward and back arrows set (Control-click on object) to go to next slide or previous slide. What I found was that while this works as designed when played back in Keynote (OS X or iOS) but not in the Keynote widget. The links only  setting and these hyperlinks are totally ignored in the Keynote widget. Tapping anywhere went to the next slide. Tapping on the back arrow also went to the next slide,
