Adding account to computer with existing account

Hi, my computer recently crashed but, luckily, I have all of my songs purchased from Itunes on my Ipod. The other computer in our house contains my brother's Itunes account. I have been reading the information on how to authorize another account and how to manually manage an Ipod, and I have authorized my account for his computer. However, I have not seen the issue I'm most worried about addressed which is my brother's Itunes library. I am afraid that if I plug my Ipod in and begin to transfer the songs on my Ipod to my newly authorized Itunes account on my brother's computer that it will erase all of his Itunes library. Can this happen if I am signed in to my account? The only account that has ever been on this computer is his and I don't want to interfere. Sorry if this has already been addressed but I had not seen it anywhere. Thanks in advance for any help.

Welcome to AD!
My advice is to make a new Windows user account for your name, and then start iTunes after you log in there.
Use the transfer purchases feature to get your songs off your iPod, and it will not touch your brother's account, iTunes library, or music files, at all.
Here are some Apple articles on that:

  • Setting up new computer with existing library

Just got a new computer with Vista. Have current iTunes library on an external HD. (old computer running XP) Can I just plug the HD in and have all my playlists and settings? Or could someone point me where to find info to set this up? We've got 3 iPods running on this library and am hoping this is easy.

See this recent discussion where I think I cover everything that may also apply to your situation as well. Post back with any questions...

  • How do I sync in my new itouch to a computer with existing ipod account?

    Hello!
How do I set up my new itouch to the same computer (PC) that has an existing ipod account. I would like to set it up as a different account for the reason this itouch is for my son. I would like to use 1 computer for 2 ipod & itouch systems. Is there "step by step" information that anyone could guide me to? I've looked a little, but haven't found anything useful. I've tried to do this myself, but when I hook up the new itouch, it takes me to "my" ipod account vs. taking me to "set up a new product".
    Thanks!

  • Unable to set up sync on new computer with existing iPhone

I have replaced my laptop and install Firefox 16.0.2. I have been unable to sync it with my existing iPhone Firefox app. It was working fine on my old computer, both running Windows 7. For my last attempt I logged onto my sync account and deleted it. Now trying to set up a new sync account and it says my email address is already in use. When I launch the Firefox app on my iPhone it goes direct to a screen that Firefox Home requires a sync account. I have deleted and re-installed the app but that did not help. I'm stumped.

Addendum: I tried all of the suggestions on the Firefox web site, but they do not match the options available on 16. There is not "Manage Account" option that I can find on 16.

  • Hooking up new computer with existing Verizon DSL

Hello, Bought a new desktop PC today, with Windows 7, replacing my old PC with Windows XP. Some **bleep** questions that I hope you experts can help me with. Will I simply be able to hook everything up on my new PC as on my existing PC and I'm good to go? Will I need to run my Verizon DSL set-up CD (which I'm not sure I have)? Will my home wireless network (2 laptops) be affected? Thanks, everyone.

Not a problem Let us know if you need anything else.

  • Installed 10g on Windows 2003 computer with existing 9i

Hi, I have just installed 10g on a PC running Win2003 with an existing 9i. When I tried logging on to 10g, it's telling me TNS protocol adapter error. I configured a new 10g listener and setup the tnsnames as well. When I started the 10g listener, it's telling me LISTENER already started (the 9i one). I stopped the 9i listener and started the 10g one, and was able to log on to 10g.
Now, how would I be able to access 9i and 10g at the same time? Also, I noticed that the 9i listener shows as Windows service, but the 10g does not.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

10g listener should be able to server 9i database as well.
If your 9i instance is not self register with 10g listener, run netca to configure your listener to include 9i instance.

  • HT202213 I have 3 users on one computer with 3 unique user accounts.  Each have unique ITunes accounts.  How do we share our music libraries using home sharing?

I have 3 users on one computer with 3 unique user accounts.  Each of us have separate and unique ITunes accounts.  How do we share our music libraries using Home Sharing?  Everything that I can find talks about sharing between networked computers, but this is all on the same computer.  I just want to share between ITunes accounts.  Thanks!

Hi b noir, I also have two users on one pc with two different iTunes libraries.  But I also want to put them onto an external hard drive so that I can free up some memory on the pc.  So I figure I need to consolidate the two users iTunes libraries first before moving to hard drive?  But not quite sure how to do that on the iTunes 11?  Thanking you in advance!!

  • HT5649 Our family has a shared computer with itune software. We have multiple apple devices and multiple itunes accounts. Can we share the computer and iTunes software to back up each apple device separately?

How do multiple users with multiple devices share one computer with iTunes software to back up multiple devices and individual iTune libraries?

    Hi Goodguy147,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
The easiest way to have multiple users with multiple devices share a single computer is to create a User Account on your Windows PC for each person.  Each person should also have a unique Apple ID.  That will keep each individual's iTunes Library separate from the others and each individual can associate and backup several devices to their iTunes library.

  • 1 Apple TV 2nd Gen, Windows 7 Computer with multiple user accounts

The issue that I am having is I have 1 Apple TV 2nd Gen and Windows 7 Computer with multiple user accounts.
When I log onto my Windows user account, open up Itunes and turn on home sharing my Apple TV work perfect but if another family member switches to their Windows user account without logging me out, the home share shows up on Apple TV but it just says "Loading ... Library" and never loads.
If we switch back to my user account, restart iTunes, everything is fine. Is there a way to keep my home share active in ATV2 across multiple user accounts? All of my video is under my account.

You can home-share multiple libraries but only use one account at a time.

  • Can I have 2 accounts, one on each computer, with the same e-mail address?

I have a video ipod and an itunes account on my computer. I would like to set up the other computer with itunes as well. It would be used with a shuffle only. The computers share an e-mail address. Can I just download itunes on that computer and set up another account there, or will that cause problems? I do not want to risk the current library on my current account.
    dell   Windows XP

I'm beginning to understand what you are driving at now. iTunes (the program) and iTunes (the account) are only peripherally related to each other. If I so chose, I could install and use iTunes (the program) without ever creating an iTunes account. I'd install the program, rip CDs (or if I wanted to raise the pirate flag, download music illegally) and import those songs into my iTunes library. Then I'd listen to the music and sync my iPod.
My iTunes account serves only two purposes - to buy and download music from the iTunes store and to limit my use of the songs that I buy to only 5 computers. (An observation, not a complaint, mind.) The iTunes account has nothing to do with keeping my iTunes (the program) library in sync.
With a single exception what songs my wife and I keep on our individual computers has nothing to do with our iTunes account. This is especially the case since the vast majority of our music comes from CDs we owned long before Apple invented the iPod and even now we buy CDs rather than download. So two external drives connected to my home desktop is the repository for all our music and our other computers contain only a subset thereof. If I rip a CD on my desktop and want those songs on my work computer I either have to take the CD into work and rip it there or copy the mp3 files and take them into work. The same would be true for music I buy at the iTunes store. I'd buy them using one computer and then manually transfer them to all the computers I've authorized for playback.
Should one computer go belly up, it would have no affect on our other computers. As I said, with one exception, the iTunes library isn't tied to our iTunes account. That one exception is the authorization to play music we've bought from the iTunes store on up to 5 computers. If some disaster struck one of my computers, depending on the severity of the disaster, I'd either deauthorize that single computer or if the computer were totally unusable go to Apple's website and deauthorize all my computers.
Hope this helps, and keep asking if it doesn't. Marking a thread answered doesn't kill the thread or stop those who are subscribed to it from getting notified about activity.

  • Can I use 1 computer with 2 different iTunes accounts and devices? We're afraid we're going to wipeout one library or the other if we do??

My son got an iPhone and wanted his own iTunes account. Now his computer died, and he wants to connect to his iTunes account on my computer. When it asks to sync the computer, a message comes up and we're afraid either his or my library are going to be wiped out by trying to do this. Is it possible to use 1 computer with 2 different iTunes accounts and devices without wiping out one of the libraries? Thanks for any info.

If the content was not originally purchased/synced to the device from your computer it will erase and replace the content from the device with that of the computer. If you have content that you want to backup you can transfer purchases http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1848 check this link out

  • HT1495 I have just purchased a second ipod and have 2 computers can i use one ipod on each computer with the same account. I have a different playlist on my second computer. Thanks,

I have just purchased a second ipod and have two computers w7 and xp, can i use one on each computer with the same account. I have a different playlist on my second computer. Thanks.

Sorry to ask, how do I do it please. I have my first ipod with the same account on both computers that have different libraries one of which I am building now. Do I have to de-authorise my original ipod on the computer that I want to use my new ipod on with the new library and then register my new ipod. I would rather do this than have 2 libraries on one itunes, but keep the same account details.
