Adding an effect to a portion of an audio file?

Hello,
For years now I've been using FCP and when STP was first released it seemed wonderful, but very convoluted, so I ended up doing all my audio mixing within FCP.
Recently I've decided to really nail STP and get it incorporated into my workflow, but the old frustrations have appeared immediately, which is why I never continued using it originally.
One problem I'm encountering is this:
I have a recording of a band, which when I open in STP appears on one long timeline. I've added markers where the songs stop/start etc, and deleted bits between the songs. When I save this file I can open it in a project file.
I then use 'S' to split the main track, chopping up the songs and placing them in their own tracks.
My confusion arises when I want to add a touch of reverb to one song.
If i highlight one song on a track, and go to Process>Effects>Reverb/Delay, non of the options are selectable, so I double-click the audio clip/waveform on a track and it opens in the audio timeline (no separate tracks, just 2 large waveforms Left&Right), here I can apply the reverb to the audio file, but it applies the effect to the whole audio file (1 hour long) not the individual song I want.
So... I can drag the playhead to make a selection with the master audio file, ie, select the individual song, and apply the reverb.
Is this the correct workflow? It seems like quite a convoluted process just to add a touch of reverb to one song on my master timeline with all the different tracks.

You shouldn't apply the process to the file, because as you've discovered it will affect all of the other regions of the file in your project.
Either add a reverb to each individual track in the mixer, or better yet to save on resources Add a Bus. On the Bus insert a Reverb. Now on any of the audio tracks you can Add a Send. By adjusting the level of the send of the signal from any channel to the Bus with the reverb you can add as much or as little as you like to each individual track.

  • Applying one effect to numerous audio files.

    Hello,
I'm using ST 2.0.2 and would like to apply one effect to multiple audio files.
I have about 25 audio files (voice-overs and translations for numerous programmes)
I've used Process>Effects>Dynamics>Compressor to set the level I desire, and have saved my settings in the 'User Presets' box, but it's taking ages to click - click - click - click - click etc to apply my preset to each audio file.
There must be a way to apply my preset to ALL the individual audio files in one sweep surely?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Probably much too late to be of help to you by now but in case others are puzzled by this +(as I was)+ you simply adjust one audio file using whatever effects etc you need, then go to:
File > Save Soundtrack Pro Script.
Then in the FCP Timeline, you can select as many clips as you want to add these effects to:
Right-Click > Send to > Soundtrack Pro Script.
All the STP Scripts you've saved will then appear for you to choose from.
This works exceptionally well - but do not save a script which has been added to a selected area on your original audio file as this causes unreliable results when added to other clips!

  • Why is a layer blending mode result altered by adding and effect?

I've done a search online and haven't come up with an answer but does anyone
know why a layers blending mode result is altered by adding an effect?
I am using CS3 on a PC (Windows XP SP2) and have two layers; one a Tiff and
a second a text layer with an ambient light and a spot shining on them. Both
layers have 3D turned on and accept lights and are in the same position in
    space.
To make the text, which is coloured black, sit better I changed the layers
blend mode to soft light which works well.
I wanted to soften the edge of the text a little so I added a Fast Blur
effect and suddenly the result of the blend was completely different. If I
turn off the effect it goes back to what it was before but even if the Fast
Blur is set to zero, ie no blur on the layer, the blend result is altered.
Does anyone know what's going on?

Many thanks for that. I tried the Box Blur but it too shifted the result of <br />the blend. In the end, to get this job out of the door, I changed the colour <br />of the text to orange, lowered the opacity and used Multiply as the layer <br />blend mode. Adding the Fast Blur effect to this didn't shift the result of <br />the blend mode. It's not as sexy a look as using Soft Light but it works.<br /><br />I wonder if it's something going on with the maths or this a real bug?<br /><br /><br /><[email protected]> wrote in message <br />news:[email protected]..<br />> Presumably a bug that uses the blur's convolution kernel when it <br />> shoulddn't. Please report at <a href=http://www.adobe.com/go/wish>. Still, <br />> sometimes changing the blend behavior is inevitable. Even if the layers <br />> visually look the same, the actual pixel values may change and thus create <br />> a different result in the blend formulas. • Inserting plug-ins/effects to specific portions of track

    hey there,
I've been using logic express 8 for a few weeks now and must say i do like it a lot. Although this one issue im not able to figure out on my own. I want to know how to insert a specific plug in to a specific portion of my audio track.
For example....I want to insert a flanger and adjust its parameters to only a small portion of my track 1....(minute 1:30-1:35)?
    Is this possible?

    Hi,
Logic can do this easily with Automation.
In the arrange window click View > Automation. In the left side of the tracks you'll see buttons pop up, often with "Volume" written on it (be sure that the height of the track is large enough; you may have to zoom in a little to see them). Press-hold the button, and you'll see a "chapter" called main with a little arrow next to it. Behind that you can choose things like "Insert #1 Bypass". Now you can draw automation lines in your track, that will switch you effects on or off.
Or you can choose ANY parameter of ANY plugin to automate.
If you click on Help > Logic Express 8 User Manual, and go to page 605, you can find detailed info on automation.
    Kind regards,
    Jaap

  • Noise after adding visual effects or tranisition

    Hi there!
I recently edited a movie with iMovie. After adding some effects or transitions I noticed a strange noise (some kind of crackling).
    Here are my questions:
How can I restore the original clips? I saved and closed that project before I noticed that crackling.
How can I avoid that noise when adding effects or transitions?
    Thanks for your help!

    Hello,
After adding some effects or transitions I noticed a strange noise (some kind of crackling). How can I avoid that noise when adding effects or transitions?
Unfotunately, that is a known problem with iMovie sometimes. See this:http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107945
How can I restore the original clips?
Remove any transitions on either side of the clip you wish to restore. Click on the clip. Under 'Advanced' you should see the option to 'restore original clip.' Just select that and the entire clip from which that part came will replace it.

  • Looking for adding machine effect seen in "Supersize Me"

Does anyone know if you can do the following effect in Motion 3:
I'm trying to do an adding machine effect where you see figures change like you would on altimeter of an aircraft or an adding machine. I saw this effect in Morton Spurlock's "Supersize Me".
There must be some Motion 3 behavior or plug-in that can do this.
    Thanks very much in advance,
    - Nicholas

altimeter of an aircraft or an adding machine< </div>
Altimeters are usually analog dials. Adding machine would be an analog paper tape.
There are many cool gauge objects in Motion 3 and designing a paper tape simulation could be fun.
No idea how you would create a behavior to run the displays, though. (Easy in After Effects with an expressions control)

  • Why am I getting a delay on one of my tracks when I have added no effects?

Why am I getting a delay on one of my tracks when I have added no effects? It sounds like a latency problem.

AVI should never be used for iDVD.  Even Microsoft abandoned AVI and moved to WMV.  The reason for this is that AVI is limited to 2 GB is file size and has limited video codec support.  If you have problems with AVI in iDVD, convert it to Quicktime right away.

  • Adding sound effect

Hi ... I have done a search but not found quite what I'm looking for ... very new to imovie and don't want to screw up in the same way I did with iphoto and imusic by getting the file structure messy ... ie I don't really want to touch anything ! but i want to use a sound effect (waves on a beach) I have a .wav where do i put it ? is it OK to use a .wav ? should it go in the same library folder as the default imovie fx (ie somewhere deep in the bowels of garage band's support files) ? Thanks for your time ? Roger

    a) iM uses internally 48KHz aiff...- no .wav
    b) if you just want to use it single shot, simply drag'n drop your audio file into the timeline/audio track (iM will convert into aiff... donb't care)
    c) if you want your waves permanently in your "sound effects" pane, you have to wait until someone else answers, or I'll be home at my Mac (posting from an alien machine...)

  • Help with adding audio files to page

I am using DW CS5.  I have had numerous troubles adding audio files to any page.  Please know that I am not at all computer savy when it comes to html codes etc.  But I have been working with DW CS5 and have a functional website and my pages validate.  That being said, please be patient with me if I am asking stupid questions or don't understand the solution.
Now to the problem....I originally wanted to add mp3 files...but I am not sure how to work with plugins or which plugin to use.
Therefore, I converted my mp3 files to swf and used the insert media file feature in DW CS5.  But when I look at the finished page...I only see a big white box.  Nothing happens when you click on it.
First question...which is the best method to add audio files?
Second question...what steps do I need to follow achieve the desired result?
Note:  there is one validation error on this page and I'm not sure why or how to fix it.  Any suggestions here would be greatly appreciated.

Woohoo! I was able to resolve the issue including the validation issue.  But I have a follow up question...
Currently if you click on the play button another window pops up which has the play/control/stop buttons to control the audio file.  The attribute is set to new window.  If I change the attribute to parent window, then the page that has the control buttons overlays ontop of the page with the link.
To get back to the original page, one must click on the back arrow near the address bar.
Isn't there a way to not have a separate window appear?  In other words, the controls are embeded into the parent page?

  • After Effects Error: rendering error while writing to file...Output Module failed - 1610153646

Hi – I’m currently working with someone who is running After Effects 5.5v10.5.0.253 on a PC which is running Windows 7 Ultimate. The computer has just recently been built and the software is newly installed. (ie. a couple of weeks old, max). Up until now, we have been using After Effects with no real issues. But tonight, we started to see the following error message, when trying to render something out:
“After Effects Error: rendering error while writing to file xxxxx. Output Module failed, the file may be damaged or corrupted -1610153646” – displayed during render, which meant the render failed.”
We started to review forums to see if we could come up with a fix and tried a few of the more common suggested solutions, including:
Make sure there are no third-party plug-ins or Windows incompatible elements installed - as it’s a pretty new install, we haven’t added anything except out-of-the box elements.
Clear the render queue – did this, no change.
Reinstall Quicktime – did this, no change.
Reinstall Creative Suite – also no change.
Check the default program to open .mov files is Quicktime – Quicktime was already the default.
A bit more detail about the machine...
    Ram is 32gb
    GPU is GeForce GTX 660ti
    250gb soild states
    2tb raid drive
Any help would be much appreciated. This is now happening on all AE files, even files that worked fine earlier in the week. Other than the AE and QT reinstalls mentioned above, nothing new has been added to the machine this week. On a deadline – so a quick response would be amazing, right about now. Thanks.

Hi Mylenium- thx for the quick response. We have have tried a bunch of different settings. AVIs work and we can do image sequences too. The only major problem seems to be with Quicktime files. While I appreciate your suggetion to convert with AME - this is only a workaround. Was really hoping for a solution that will fix the problem in After Effects? Heard rumor from a few friends in the biz, that this is a major bug... if possible, some feedback from Adobe product devs or someone with a technical background would be great! Thx.

  • After Effects wont let me scrub through audio or render it in one project, why is this?

Only 1 project has this problem when I open it up. It uses more content than others, but when I delete that content and leave just the audio in, it still wont play. Then I open a new project and insert a music track... and suddenly there's sound. Obviously I'm using ram preview with sound, and output options are correct, and it's not muted... I have 16gb of ram on my macbook pro, so having too many resources can't be the problem.

It's mp3, but when I created a new project and imported this audio file it was fine, just not in my original project.
Forgot to mention that when I open the project it says there are 3 missing effects, I started the prject on my PC and brought it over. But when I did that, the sound still worked... while some plugins obviously didn't carry over. Says it's missing a font family from text layer too, but that didn't effect anything last time either. Iswitched the fonts just in case it was and deleted those effects, but nothing changed. Whatever happened the last time I opened this project months ago, something happened that caused this.

  • After effects error: rendering error while writing to file. Disk full.

    Hi,
I tried to render a video in AE CC 2014, with RGB + Alpha as I wanted to keep the background transparent (rotoscoped) so that I can then use it in Premiere.
I chose to export in Quicktime, with uncompressed 8bit.
After it rendered it for a little while I had a window pop-up saying
After effects error: rendering error while writing to file "E:...blabla". Disk full. The file may be damaged or corrupted. (-1610153463).
I read a thread posted in the forums but i do not understand the solution provided there.. What is a POD??
I have a Win7 Ultimate, x64. Plenty of disk space, and 16 Go ram.
Please help, I canoot go further in my project with this bug...

Is the drive you are rendering to formatted FAT32 by any chance? If so you can only render up to 4Gb for one file. Try rendering out a TIFF sequence instead. Litte tip - push the LZW compression tickbox in format options for a lossless compression, this will keep you file size way down.
