Adding and deleting music via itunes

i recently bought a 4 gig nano after using sandisk mp3 players for years and im trying to get use to itunes. how do i delete and add music via itunes?

To add music already on your PC (Like MP3s) you goto the file menu at top and select "Add File to library". If you have a folder full of music, like "My Music" folder you can hit "Add FOLDER to library".
To add music from CDs, you put the CD in and at the top right corner you hit "Import" which is the same as ripping in other programs. You goto edit>preferences>Advanced tab>Importing sub tab to set what type of format you want to import in like MP3 WAV or ACC.
To delete music you rightclick the name of the song in the main library and selct "Clear". This clears the song from iTunes and then you will get a pop up asking if you want to move the song to the recycle bin or not
Also just to mention to you, iTUnes is not like other players you may be use to like Windows medisa player in that it does not "Watch" files or folders. In alot of programs like WMA, they "Watch" folders and files so when you change there location, the player knows this and ajust for it. iTunes does not so when you move music out of..say....the My Music folder and put it in My docs folder or whatever, iTunes will loose its location and show a ! mark beside the song in the iTunes library denoting it can not locate the file/song

  • You can download individual tracks and delete music with itunes match on

You can delete music with itunes match on:
settings - general - use - music - all music
in the right corner above you can click on edit and choose delete.
You can also download individual tracks:
click on the "cloud download" icon in an album. It displays the icons to start downloading. You can tap on stop of the songs you don't want to download and then those songs won't be downloaded.

unfortunately the delete method deletes all the music you downloaded, not possible to delete individual tracks

  • Manually Adding and Deleting Files in iTunes

    Hello Folks
    Got a few simple questions:
I'd like to manually add sound files to my iTunes Library
(preferences - yes but where exactly)
I'd like to also 'DELETE' some sound files that were stored in the Library
(preferences - yes but where exactly)
And do you guys have any other sound file player that will open tunes and sound files automatically INSTEAD of iTunes?
    Perhaps WinnAmp Free Player?
Or is there another one that you recommend?
    Thank you
    Mike

OK, maybe I am duplicating your problem. When I do a Spotlight search on the song's filename without the extension, I get a list of files. The track I added to iTunes is still in the appropriate folder and it looks like iTunes copied the file I wanted deleted to the trash instead of moving it. Additionally, the first file was named "bell.wav". I copied it to the desktop, changed a tag in the original file, and then imported the copy. iTunes named the copy "bell.wav.wav". I then deleted the song from iTunes, or thought I did, and what showed up in the trash was a file named "Bell.wav.wav.wav". I emptied the trash and "bell.wav.wav.wav" disappeared from the Spotlight list, but "bell.wav.wav" did not.
I repeated the above using an mp3 file and exactly the same things occurred, except that iTunes did not add a new extension to each iteration of the file (they were all called "test.mp3" rather than "test.mp3", "test.mp3.mp3" and "test.mp3.mp3.mp3").
I had never noticed this behavior before and I will look into it some more. I have recently imported some cds to manually put on my iPod, after which I deleted them from iTunes, so I have plenty of deleted file names to look for.

  • Adding and deleting music

I just got an iphone, and I already had an ipod, so I have been using itunes for a while. When I try to drag music from my existing library into my iphone, it won't let me. It will let me "sync" my iphone. I want to be able to add individual songs to my iphone by dropping them into the device like you do on an ipod. Also, when I look at the music that is on my iphone (from doing the "sync" thing) all of the music is listed in a light gray, and it won't let me remove or edit any of the songs on there. Can anyone help me to add and remove one song at a time to my new iphone?

Allan's right, but you can set up a playlist which can do much the same thing.
You can drag and drop to the playlist, delete from it, etc. Then just sync only to this playlist and it will have the effect you want. I call my playlist "My iPhone".

  • Am I the only person who misses the drag and drop method of adding and deleting songs on iTunes devices?

I am constantly getting frustrated with the newer versions of iTunes because my different apple devices have different amounts of storage. I miss the days when I could drag and drop songs to various devices. I don't always want the same songs on all devices, so I don't like to sync because I sometimes lose something I want to keep on that device. I am just curious if I'm the only one who misses this feature or is there a way of doing this that I've just not found? Thanks.

In the Summary tab of iTunes - when the iDevice is connected to your Mac - select Manually Manage Music and Videos. You should be able to drag and drop.
If you don't see the sidebar and the device is syncing automatically, you can enable the sidebar from the ITunes Menu - View>Show Sidebar. The. You can click on your device name imder the devices heading, then click on the Summary Tab.
You can also disable auto syncing in iTunes>Preferences>Devices>Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing autonatically.
I never auto sync and never have. I select Sync Only Checked Songs And Videos in the Summary tab and I can still drag and drop songs. I can also select the albums, playlist, or artists that I want to sync by using this method.

    Hello Salmomma,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing when trying to connect your iPhone to your Mac.  I recommend following the steps in the tutorial below for an issue like this:
    iPhone not appearing in iTunes
    http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/assistant/itunes/
Additionally, you can delete music directly from the iPhone by swiping the song:
Delete a song from iPhone: In Songs, swipe the song, then tap Delete.

I have bought a new airport express and using it with my macbook (iTunes 10.2.2). I have joined an existing wireless network for internet in my home and with that i am trying to play the music via itunes but there is audio dropouts every 60 secs or so. I am using a set of speakers from kenwood connected to the airport express. The operating system on my macbook is mac os X 10.5.8. i am sure it is not a problem of streaming music online because i have even tried playing music which are stored in my macbook.
Is there any problem with the setting in itunes or quicktime ? Kindly reply...... I am waiting for your valuable suggestion.
Thank you a lot in advance.

I am shocked to have found this same AX audio dropout problem starting TODAY, every few seconds the audio just drops for a couple seconds and then resumes:  Latest software versions of everything.  No iPad, iPhone or Touch.  Internet hardwired to D-Link DES1105 (1000baseT Switch) hardwired to new 80211N AX, AX optical to stereo, AX Wi-Fi internet to basic 1st-gen MacBook operating at 80211G, and an older 'G' AX extender at the far end of the house, away from all this.  The MacBook streaming iTunes is usually 12 feet from AX.  I've used this setup for years of trouble-free AirTunes / Airplay until today.  Today I also found 2 very reliable fixes and 1 way to force a dropout, but first, I read some posts and tried ALL following settings one-at-a-time and restored them ALL because NONE of them helped:  Turned off IPV6.  Streamed to multiple speakers 'Computer' and 'AX' (restored to just AX).  Turned off 'Ask to Join new (WiFi) Networks'.  Turned off Bluetooth (can't live without Magic Trackpad, so glad that wasn't it).  Here's my discoveries:  Lo and behold, each time I click the Airport icon in the Menu (you know it shows you've got 4 bars from AX) when the status switches to 'Looking for Networks' for a second it CAUSES the AX audio to drop out for a couple seconds (it never did that before today.)  iTunes still playing, streaming, AX laser still lit, but the 'PCM' light on stereo and the sound GOES OUT EVERY time I click the Airport icon in the menubar, just like the regular, annoying dropouts.  So, to reduce traffic I quit Safari (3 tabs, no streaming, just Gmail, Google, and Netflix browsing).  Lo and behold, the dropouts stopped altogether.  No other Web apps going (not iTunes Store, Genius, Ping, nothing), so I launched Chrome to the same 3 tabs and the dropouts HAVE NOT RETURNED.  That's right, not only did simply QUITTING SAFARI cure it, and Chrome doesn't contribute to it, but I can demonstrate it just by forcing my Airport to re-scan.  Works for me, written using Chrome.  The other reliable fix is to hardwire MacBook to the Switch.  This is obviously not ideal, but Airplay audio doesn't drop out over Ethernet.  Also, in all my tests, it made no difference whether iTunes did the streaming, or Airfoil did.

    Most Windows users don't.
Purchase an external hard drive and use the backup software that comes with it to backup files from your computer.
Buy TouchCopy and install it on your new computer, connect your old iPod and transfer your songs to your computer.

  • As of today I can no longer delete music from iTunes.

    Hello friends!
I can't seem to delete music from iTunes 10.(whatever the latest version is) or on my iPhone4. I just want to change what I have on my iPhone, but then I realized that it may be an issue with iTunes after I tried to delete something there.
I only know of two ways to delete music. One is to select/ highlight want I want to delete and select the delete funtion in the edit part of the bar. The other is to do the Command D shortcut. Neither of these work as of today. Yesterday it did indeed work for I changed some stuff before work.
I am nothing of a techy sort. Here is some info, but it may be invalid.
*I have an eMac running Leopard.
*iTunes 10.4 (I think) last update a few days ago.
*iPhone 4...updated today with the new updates.
*I have my music saved on an external harddrive. I have the folder set up to put my library there.
*Edit/ Delete doesn't work, neither does Command D.
This is the only issue I've ever had. Any suggestions?

It could be an issue with permissions on your system.
I would suggest beginning your troubleshooting by running Disk Utility (In the applications--> utilities folder), and choosing "Repair Permissions".
You should also check to see if the music has a little exclamation mark next to the song -- that means it isn't able to find your music, and you'll want to doubleclick the song to make sure it plays okay.
Secondly I would suggest you run Disk Utility again and this time you run it on your external drive and select "Repair Disk".  That will check your external drive for problems.
My guess is that your iTunes Music Library file inside your User folder--> Music folder is damaged.. but see where you get with the Disk utility repairs first and let us know!

  • HT204406 I deleted music on iTunes music library but didn't delete on icloud. Is there a way to delete on my iPhone 5?

I deleted music on iTunes music library but didn't delete in iCloud. Is there a way to fix so deleted music isn't on my iPhone 5?

You can't change it.  It's red to warn you not to tap it.
You don't need to worry.  If you accidentially did tap it, you would see a message like the first image below (this is an example from an iPhone).  As you can see, you have the option to tap Cancel.  And even if you didn't, the next thing you would get is a message like the second image below, which gives you a second chance to tap Cancel.  And if you choose Delete from My iPad on the second prompt, it would still only delete the account and your synced data from your iPad, not from iCloud.  It would be synced back to your iPad if you signed back in.
If you're worried about your contacts, download the app My Contacts Backup and use it to back up your contacts as an attachment to an email.  Send the email to yourself and keep it on your computer.  You can later open the email on your iPad and tap the attachment to import your contacts back to your iPad should you ever need to.

  • On my daughters IPHONE 5 i want to know which apps she has added and deleted.  Is there a log or way to track?

My daughter has an IPHONE, i want to be able to track which applications she has added and deleted.  For instance, if she adds an application she shouldn't and when it comes time to verify and she doesn't have the application because she deleted it so i wouldn't see, is there a log or way to track what application have been added / deleted with dates and times?

If you go to a computer that has the itunes program on it you are then able to go to the APPs store on itunes and login in with  your daughters apple id. Once logged in with her apple id you then are able to see all historical archies by simply clickon in the apple id going from there to 'accounts' from account you are able to see purchased items. Not clear exactly what the 'deleting' of apps is all about but certainlly this will allow you to track what has been downloaded to her apple id.
    Good luck.
