Adding another HD and making it raid

I currently have one Hitachi 250 ata HD and I want to add another one.
If I add the HD and put it in raid format from disk utilities will I lose all my data??

To the best of my knowledge no.
Why don't we back up a bit here and tell us why you think you need RAID. Generally it has been my experience that people have totally unrealistic expectations of RAID. Once we start looking at what you want then maybe we can either explain to you if is a valid reason to use RAID and process to do it.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

Adding menu items and making system calls in AfterEffects (AE,CS3)

We are looking to do the following things via javascript in AfterEffects CS3. It does seem straight-forward, but am unable to find a good reference or example.
* Add at startup a menu item under "File" (or similar main menu) and have it call a script function when clicked.
* Have a script make an external system call (to launch an external application/executable with a few parameters)
Any insights on how to achieve this?

I wanted to see if there was any update on this, I'm writing a series of tools and would love to create a custom menu for quick and easy access.
If it turns out there isn't an "easy" way to do this (env variables, special directory locations, javascripts) would anyone know if access to the menubar is possible from the Plugin API?
I'm fairly new to After Effects, just getting up-to-speed on the environment now... seeing if I can duplicate the functionality of some old Nuke scripts in AE.

ADDING ANOTHER 4GB MODUAL..

Hi - I think I would only need to add another 4GB module for what I use my Macbook Pro for. I have read that this would reduce it's performance by about 15% as apposed to having 2 x 4GB module. Does this sound right to you. I can not afford 2 x 4GB modules. Has anyone added another 4GB and did this help?

It's clearly not impossible, just different than you expect. Create your playlist as you want it to appear in the Current tab (meaning don't dump every single song from your library in there, just the ones you want) and then save the playlist.

I have HP ML370 G6 with 2 harddrives sas 2.5' 300GB hotplug on raid 1.
And it is almost runout space. I have plan to adding another 2 harddrive with same type.
Is is possible to add another harddrive on raid 1 without change or re-install the operating system installed ??
My operating system is Redhat Enterprise Linux 4 (RHEL 4) and oracle database inside.
Please I need your suggest and advise, what should I do to add more space on existing raid 1.

There is no BIOS in OS X. There is only the EFI stored in ROM that is not user modifiable. OS X is probably checking Bay 0 for the boot drive since that is where it should be. It won't check the Tempo drive since it is treated like an external drive. I suggest you open Startup Disk preferences to see if the Tempo device is selected as the boot device. If it isn't, then select it. That will probably shave off a few seconds in the startup time.

I am not sure where you mean when you say the green LED should be on. Do you mean the TC?

In order to help troubleshoot ethernet connections all routers use connectivity leds.. even APPLE.. it has one big LED on the front.. and 4 tiny leds beside each ethernet port. That light has to come on for ethernet to be active.. if you plug an ethernet cable into the port and the light doesn't come on.. then there is no connection.. either the other end isn't plugged in.. or the cable is bad.. or the ethernet port is bad.. something is wrong.
To get access to the TC you need this led to be green.. is it?
If it is green and the WAN is also green.. then I want you to unplug the WAN connection.. the blue wire in the picture.. the port slightly separated from the 3 LAN port.. computer plugged just into LAN port.. no airport turned on.. and press the reset again for 10sec until front led flashes rapidly.. then try and bring up the airport utility again.. assuming the ethernet led is green.
How old and what model is the TC?

I've never seen this issue, and I handle many iPads, of all versions. WiFi issues are generally local to the WiFi router - they are not all of the same quality, range, immunity to interference, etc. You have distance, building construction, and the biggie - interference.
At home, I use Apple routers, and have no issues with any of my WiFi enabled devices, computers, mobile devices, etc - even the lowly PeeCees. I have locations where I have Juniper Networks, as well as Aruba, and a few Netgears - all of them work as they should.
The cheaper routers, Linksys, D-Link, Seimens home units, and many other no name devices have caused issues of various kinds, and even connectivity.
I have no idea what Starbucks uses, but I always have a good connection, and I go there nearly every morning and get some work done, as well as play.
You could try changing channels, 2.4 to 5 Gigs, changing locations of the router. I have had to do all of these at one time or another over the many years that I have been a Network Engineer.

ITunes adding another copy "Someone Like You" by Adele over and over and over.... literally every 10 seconds

I recently bought a used Mac Mini which has a fresh copy of Mountain Lion 10.7.5 installed on it which includes iTunes 10.7
Since my time machine backup of my now dead iMac (very 1st Intel iMac) has far more data on it (the iMac has a 250 GB internal HD and my "new" Mac Mini only has a 160 GB. internal HD) So I did a minimum transfer of my user data using Migration Assistant from a Time Machine backup of my old iMac.
I manually copied the songs from the iTunes folder from the back up drive to the iTunes Media folder on the new Mac Mini
Everything seemed fine until started seeing iTunes adding another copy "Someone Like You" by Adele over and over and over.... literally every 10 seconds, as long as iTunes is open and running, this song just keeps adding another copy. The program has been open again for a few minutes and there are now over 100 copies of this song in the iTunes window! I've never seen anything like this.
I've selected the songs deleted them from itunes "MUSIC" window in the program and it just keeps replicating the song.
I turned off in "ADVANCED PREFERENCES, "Keep iTunes Media folder organized and also unchecked Copy files to iTunes Media folder when additng to library" to see if that would make this behavior stop.
I've removed the "Adele" file folder from the iTunes Media/Music folder and trashed it...
Still keeps adding the song....
(I just bought my iPhone 5 today and this is stopping me from transefering and syncing my apps and other data from my old iPhone 3GS for fear it might do something strange to iTunes or the iPod function in the new iPhone.)

Create another sid and "database"?

I've just installed a Oracle 8.0.5 into a linux box and
making some tests using the SID (ora) I gave to the installer
prompt. This means I can make a connection to this
database using sqlplus, e.g sqlplus user/passwd@ora.
I'm missing some terminology here, but I'd like to create
another database/tablespace/instance/whatever to be something
for testing, e.g. sqlplus user/passwd@tdev.
This far I've managed to alter the files listener.ora and
tnsnames.ora, so that the listener now says:
./lsnrctl status
Services Summary...
extproc has 1 service handler(s)
ora has 1 service handler(s)
tdev has 1 service handler(s)
But what is the next step here? When I try to create a
database that corresponds with the SID "tdev" I get:
./svrmgrl
connect internal
shutdown
startup nomount
create database tdev <lots of parameters>
ORA-01501: CREATE DATABASE failed
ORA-01504: database name 'TDEV' does not match parameter db_name
'ora'

Many thanks for your advice, now it almost works.
I was able to create the database tdev and
after after adding users in it, I'm able to
connect it as well.
However, if I now try to connect any other database
(those ones on the same machine or those ones that
are depicted in tnsnames.ora), I always get the message:
ORA-01034: ORACLE not available
tnsping to those databases works fine and lsnrctl start
command gives me:
Services Summary...
extproc has 1 service handler(s)
ora has 1 service handler(s)
tdev has 1 service handler(s)
The command completed successfully

Cyrus: Adding another mailstore

The RAID disk with our mailstore on it is full. Unfortunately, adding another mailstore to the Cyrus mail server isn't quite as easy as the documentation states.
I added a second one and moved my account there, but I wasn't able to access it.
The original mailstore was on raid1. The new one was on raid0. Every possible setting that I can find reflected that account move to raid0. However, the logs had complaints stating the the account was 'not found' on raid1...
Does this really work? Our server is currently online and I am on-hold for the Apple tech support phone line.

I haven't found an answer yet, but I did find the reason my disk was full. I discovered the following CRON job.
0 3 * * * /usr/sbin/mailbfr -b /Volumes/raid1/mail_server/backup --mode rotate
It copies the entire tree every morning and keeps the Saturday copy forever.
Deleting these backup copies freed up enough disk space to get us going again.

Reinstall Mac Pro and OSX on Raid 0?..

I have several 1TB drives and I want to chain 2 using the built in OSX software to make a Raid 0 drive (for speed) for the main system drive.
How do I go about doing a complete OS X reinstall, and creating a Raid? Which comes first? What are the steps? Any suggestions for settings? (Raid block size...small blocks or large?)
Lastly...does this make sense? So much of my data is on the main drive (iphoto photo sets, imovie projects, etc..all mirrored to another drive via Time Machine) that it seems to make sense that the main system drive should be fastest.

I would not recommend using a RAID for a startup volume. However, if you're dead set on doing this, then you first need to erase the two 1 TB drives you plan to use in the array. Then create the RAID using Disk Utility. If you're not sure how then select Disk Utility Help from the DU Help menu and search for "raid." You should find article and help links on how to create RAID arrays using DU.
Once the RAID array is created clone your current startup volume to the RAID using the Restore option of Disk Utility:
How to Clone Using Restore Option of Disk Utility
1. Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
3. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (journaled, if available) and click on the Erase button. This step can be skipped if the destination has already been freshly erased.
4. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
5. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
6. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
7. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the RAID array.
Source means the current startup volume.
Finally, open Startup Disk in System Preferences, select the startup volume on your RAID, then click on the Restart button. Your computer should boot from the RAID array.
Bear in mind that if one of the drives in the array fails your startup volume is lost.

RAID is a method of combining multiple disk drives into a single entity in order to improve the overall performance and reliability of your system. The different options for combining the disks are referred to as RAID levels. There are several different levels of RAID available depending on the needs of your system. RAID Hardware is always a disk controller to which you can cable up the disk drives. RAID Software is a set of kernel modules coupled together with management utilities that implement RAID in Software and require no additional hardware.
Pros and cons
Software RAID is more flexible than Hardware RAID. Software RAID is also considerably less expensive. On the other hand, a Software RAID system requires more CPU cycles and power to run well than a comparable Hardware RAID System. Adding another link with etherchannel-PAGP

Hi all,
I have a 10g trunk link between my two 4510 coreswitches. Now the utilization on this link is shooting up to 9.5gb which is forcing us to put another 10g link between these two switches.
We are planning to configure Etherchannel-PAGP. There should be any sort of downtime on the current link while adding another link to it.
How do i add another link with etherchannel -PAGP with out having downtime on the current link? could you please guide me on this?

Jon is 100% correct, that since this is not already and Etherchannel, there will be downtime, but it should be minimal. Now, what you could do, is depending on your physical topology, you should connect these two switches together with a GigbitEthernet link in the meatnime, it will be blocked by spanning tree (if it's a L2 port), since the 10G link will be give priority by default. Then you could afford downtime on the 10 gig link, while you create an etherchannel, If these two links are L2, you could configure UplinkFast, so the switchover is VERY fast.
I've done this same setup before when making changes, but it all depends on if you can acutally physically do that. If not, you will have some downtime involved.
You can also, just configure all this on notepad, and copy and paste.

Problem with NT4 and 120 Gb. raid partition

My motherboard is a 694D Pro AR (MS-6321, rev 1)
This has onboard Firewire (IEEE 1394) and onboard RAID (via the Promise Fastrak100 RAID controller built on the board).
The Operating system is in an IBM 45 GB. disk. attach to
IDE 100 controller 1. The system is 100% stable.
I buy 2 new Hard disk (Maxtor 60 Gb. 7.200 each) and make a raid with them (120 Gb.) in promise bios.
I Start NT, all ok, and recognise the 120 Gb. partition, but
Occurs the following:
-- If i write data from the hard disk 1 (IBM 45 GB.) to the 120 Gb. partition all is ok and fast.
-- If i write data from disk 2 (120 GB. partition) to the disk 1 all is ok and fast.
And now is the problem, if i write data from disk 2 (120 GB.) to another directory of this disk the system become slowly and CRASH.
Help please.
