Adding another mailbox to Mail

I have just upgraded to 10.6 on my business computer and configured Mail with exchange support, and it works fine.
I do have one question though, regarding adding other mail boxes. I have my own company inbox, but I also need access to other in-house mail boxes, but haven't found out how I can add them.
Have anyone tried this, and know how it's done?

William,
I dont have the password for that account I'm trying to add. I didn't need it when setting up in entourage. I found the instructions for entourage and it's called a delegate. They authorize me as a delegate, then I type their username in and I'm can then send email on their behalf. I see in iCal there is a tab for delegation, however there isn't in mail.app. I think maybe they left it off? I hope not.
So now with that bit of news, no password is required, what now?
I don't believe that Apple's Mail application has a "delegate" function.
If it's true that other mail applications will allow someone to "impersonate" another with no password, that sounds dangerous to me.

  • E-mail changes to unreadable text when moved to another mailbox folder

    Hi,
when moving a correct received e-mail to another mailbox folder, the mail and the attachment will change to unreadable text and it looks like the column below.
On my iPad and iPhone the mail and the attachment is shown correct. If I forward it to my own account again, the mail is also correct shown an my imac27, as long as it resides in the in-box.
On the other hand, there are lots of mails+attachments with "normal" behavier when moved.
    Any idea about that?

  • I am unable to access my mail on my IMac after adding another email account. Somehow I manage to knock myself out of the Telus acct that I had recently migrated to my IMac. Any idea of how I can reconnect to my Telus acct?

    Hi
I am having trouble accessing my IMac mail after I added another mail account to my list of email accts. I had migrated my outlook acct. from my PC to my IMac and when I went back to use my password it wouldn't let me in. Any ideas of what I should do?

Adding another account would not affect one that you already had. Either the password is wrong, or the server is coincidentally rejecting your credentials for some reason, or you did something different.

  • How do I merge multiple Mailbox e-mails from different Macs in my house?

The iSync does not quite fix what I'm seeking...a way to merge, not replace, all of my various e-mails that I send on different macs in my home. So, for instance, if I send an e-mail on one of them, I'd like to find that e-mail on my other two.
Anybody help me on this? Thanks!

If you adopt the IMAP account approach first - as long as the IMAP account does not have the same user name and incoming mail server as the POP type account which will allow for creating the IMAP account with the POP account, you can transfer messages from the POP account's Inbox and Sent mailbox to the IMAP account's Inbox and Sent mailbox on each Mac.
There is no way to merge mailboxes. You can use the Import Mailboxes feature to import the account's Inbox and Sent mailbox from one Mac to another and then transfer messages from the imported mailboxes to the account's Inbox and Sent mailbox in Mail on each Mac.

  • 2013 OWA - Open Another Mailbox, :-( something went wrong, Error 500

Our client is experiencing an issue where they are not able to open another mailbox even if the user has full access to the account under mailbox delegation.  The user would click on the 'Open Another Mailbox" and they receive the following error
    something went wrong
    The URL shows the following:
    https://domain.com/owa/auth/errorfe.aspx?httpCode=500
The problem I have is similar to the following post but my client is also behind a UAG 2010 server, and I cannot change to forms based authentication.
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/exchange/en-US/9345d396-b5a6-4d26-a498-7d1539f85d13/exchange-2013-owa-http-500-error-when-opening-another-mailbox?forum=exchangesvrclients
The error within the IIS OWA logs shows as follows.
    2014-02-04 17:48:04 10.100.2.10 GET /owa/auth/errorfe.aspx httpCode=500&cafeReqId=f9be7757-b123-4ce1-a585-b9c4ef45cd4b; 443 - 10.100.2.42 Mozilla/5.0+(compatible;+MSIE+10.0;+Windows+NT+6.2;+WOW64;+Trident/6.0)

I'm running out of ideas on what could be the issue and but our users will need to manage other mailboxes pretty soon.
Edit:  I should also add that the permissions are correct as the user can connect to the target mailbox via Outlook 2013.

    Hi Bryan
It should be happening for most of the mailboxes since we ran into similar kind of problem recently
There could be 2 reasons for not happening
    IIS Settings not configured properly
    Permission issues
Check SSL Settings on DWS and ensure Ignore Client Certificates is selected
Also remove SSL from DWS for HTTP to HTTPS Redirect
    Check the permission under ADUC
Check if  Exchange Server Object is member of  tab of Domain Admins if so remove them. Also remove Exchange Organization Administrators and Exchange Servers group from Organization Management if they are added

  • How do I create another mailbox in my email account?

How do I create another mailbox (not account) in my existing mail account?  I have Inbox, sent and trash.  Would like to create 3or4 other ones to sort my mail.

Open the mail app, then under "account" tap on the email account you would like to create the new mailbox in.
Once in that particular account tap on "edit".
At the bottom you'll see new mailbox.
Tap on new mailbox and you'll be able to create a new mailbox for that particular email account.
    Hope this helps.

  • Problems importing Thunderbird Mailbox into Mail

I am having problems importing my Thunderbird mailboxes into Mail. I won't go into the many problems and issues I had to solve (but there were many) but would ask if anyone can help me solve the one I still have.
In Mail I used the Import Mailboxes command, located the Thunderbird profile in my Home directory and imported it. I may have done this some time ago, but in any case, when I decided to start using Mail as my main email client this week I only had emails up until 6th November 2008.
Now I find it impossible to import the rest of my Thunderbird Inbox - only the sub-folders show up and Mail does not let me import the emails in the main inbox.
How can I get the remaining emails?

Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
A folder window will open. Inside it there should be files with names as follows:
    Envelope Index
    ExternalUpdates.storedata
Move those files to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have longer names that begin as above. Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is damaged and that Mail has to quit. Click OK. Typically, the process takes a few minutes, but it may take hours if you have gigantic mailboxes. In that case, you may be able to speed things up by temporarily adding your home folder to the Privacy list in the Spotlight preference pane. Remove it when Mail has finished importing.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the files you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.

  • Certain mailboxes freeze Mail

One of the mailboxes is locking up Mail when I select it. I get the first 10 emails listed then nothing and the program freezes. Strangely, I can right click on items but I can't choose another mailbox or perform any other functions.
I had this problem before and deleting plist or rebuilding didn't fix it. I had to use a back up which did work.
In this instance I don't have a backup as it's on another system.
Are other people getting lock-ups in Apple Mail with certain mailboxes?

Use the Finder to open Home/Library/Mail, and if these are On My Mac mailboxes, then further open the Mailboxes folder. If the mailbox that will freeze is the Inbox of the account (which I have not understood it to be) then in the Mail folder, open the POP account folder, and then the INBOX.mbox folder and tell me if there is anything in the INBOX.mbox except one Info.plist file and one Messages folder?
If in an On My Mac mailbox, then after opening the Mailboxes folder find this particular xxxx.mbox folder, open it, and observe the file and folder contained within.
If only one Info.plist file an one Messages folder are found, then do the following:
See the following support article for forcing a reindexing of all mailboxes:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mail/3.0/en/14019.html
Be sure to Quit Mail before doing this.
If other files and folders were found within any observed xxxx.mbox folder, post back before doing this.

  • Imported Mailboxes from Mail, but Emails Didn't Import

I am upgrading from a Mac with OS X 10.3.9 to a faster Mac with OS X 10.4.8. In doing so, I'm trying to get my Mail emails from one computer to another. I went to LIBRARY / MAIL / MAILBOXES on the old computer and copied that folder into the same spot on the new computer. Then, in Mail, I:
    • selected FILE / IMPORT MAILBOXES
    • checked "Mail for Mac OS X"
    • found the appropriate mailboxes in LIBRARY / MAIL / MAILBOXES
    • had them all checked to import, and
    • seleced "Choose"
This successfully imported all of the mailboxes. Unfortunately, it didn't import any of the emails. I saw on another posting that a bug in Mail causes the LIBRARY / MAIL / MAILBOXES folder to sometimes be a file rather than a folder, but that doesn't seem to be the case here. Any thoughts about how to get all of my emails imported?
    Thanks!
    G4 Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Not sure what the problem is, but you did it wrong. You shouldn’t have moved the mailboxes to be imported into ~/Library/Mail/. Why did you do that? Actually, you shouldn’t have tinkered with the contents of ~/Library/Mail/ at all, amongst other reasons because ~/Library/Mail/Mailboxes/ is precisely where Mail would create the mailboxes resulting from the import.
Quit Mail, move the Mailboxes folder out of ~/Library/Mail/ (e.g. to the Desktop), and start over, i.e. import the Mailboxes folder that’s now on the Desktop and post back with your observations -- you may want to get rid first of any unnecessary folders that Mail may have created there.

  • Why can't i add top level imap folders (mailboxes) in Mail???

Having used MS Outlook for a while with my IMAP account, i thought i would try out the new and improved Mail in OS Lion. The structure of my mailbox on the left hand panel is as follows:
    MAILBOXES
          INBOX
              CLIENT 1
              CLIENT 2
              CLIENT 3
                   SUBFOLDER

                   SUBFOLDER
              CLIENT 4
              CLIENT 5
              CLIENT 6
              CLIENT 7
         SENT
         TRASH
    MY COMPANY NAME
         TRASH
         JUNK
         SENT
This has worked fine with outlook and with outlook i am able to add extra IMAP folders (or mailboxes as Mail calls them). In outlook i can add to the flient folders and the subfolders inside a client folder.
However, with Mail, when i 'add new mailbox' it will only let me add a new 'folder' inside one of my client folders. It will not let me add a foler to the 'Client' level.
If i add a new mailbox and try and place it at the top 'Client' level, the new folder ends up going here...
    MAILBOXES
         INBOX
              CLIENT 1
              CLIENT 2
              CLIENT 3
                   SUBFOLDER
                   SUBFOLDER
                   SUBFOLDER
              CLIENT 4
              CLIENT 5
              CLIENT 6
              NEW FOLDER DOESNT APPEAR HERE
              CLIENT 7
         SENT
         TRASH
    MY COMPANY NAME
         TRASH
         JUNK
         IT APPEARS HERE INSTEAD???
         SENT
    and NOT in my inbox...
Can anyone help? As this is the reason i have to use outlook because Mail wont let me create new IMAP folders at my 'Client' this level?!?
Any help would be appriciated, maybe im looing at it wrong as im used to outlook

I am having the same sort of problem with my IMAP e-mail account. My INBOX has several subfolders, but most of the time, those are not visible. Sometimes (what causes this, I don't know yet), the subfolders do show, but then all the e-mails in it, including those in the INBOX, are not visible...
Some weird bug this is, which may be related to Shaun's problem? I hope this gets fixed, or somebody knows what causes this and/or how to circumvent this.
    -edit-
Maybe it is an old problem, but just like Shaun, I thought I'd would give Mail app 5 a try after the upgrade to Lion, so I wouldn't know. But I think it is an old problem, since my e-mail provider has a work-around posted on their support site, for Apple Mail and iOS Mail. This seems to work great for me (removing the root path 'INBOX' and using another connection port in the account settings), but might not be a solution to other people having the same problem.

  • Every time I move emails from the inbox to another mailbox, then click on any mailbox, and then go back to the inbox, the moved messages have returned to the inbox

Every time I move emails from the inbox to another mailbox, then click on any mailbox (the emails are there fine), and then go back to the inbox, the moved messages have returned to the inbox. I have moved them out of the inbox to other mailboxes again and again, but then they keep showing up in the inbox again as soon as I click on any mailbox other than the inbox. Very frustrating.
This has only happened since I installed Mavericks on both my Macbook Pro and my iMac. It happens on both of them.
Any ideas how to fix it?
    peter

This may be one of the known issues with Gmail and it's IMAP settings working with Maverick's Mail.
It all comes down to if you have the ALL MAIL folder visible or not via IMAP.
If you do not, then you get the behavior you are describing.
If you do have ALL MAIL visible, then there isn't a problem.
    Odd, I know.
Anyway, check out this article on Wired which describes the problem and work around. You may have to click on the NEXT button at the top of the window to advance to the proper gallery image that describes this issue:

  • Cannot Delete my domain controlled mailbox in mail.app

Hi. I just got a Mac Server (Mac Mini). I set it up i plugged it into my network at home. For some reason, my iMac prompted me to setup ical and mail. Not knowing much about it, I just proceeded on with it. A mailbox appeared in my mail.app which i could not remove. I searched around and tried my best to remove it without avail. The mailbox name is
    <my username>@CYC-MAC1.local
Problem is, I've reformatted my server and reinstalled the OS and so CYC-MAC1.local does not exist anymore.
How do i get rid of it? I tried
    1) Deleting the com.apple.mail.plist file
    2) Deleting the mailbox from mail.app preferences, but it just keeps coming back.
Not sure what else i can try. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!

Duh, I managed to solve it myself.
What I found out is that my ISP's DNS as well as invalid certificates were the most likely culprit.
What I did was go to System Preferences -> Network -> Click "Advanced..." for my Wi-Fi -> then selected the "DNS" tab.
For "DNS Servers" I added in Google's public DNS which is 8.8.8.8.
Once set, I started the Mail app and went into the preferences for the mailbox that had the issue. Immediately I received a prompt for the certificates. I then displayed the certificate and then set "Always Trust" for the certificate.
When done, it was all ok!
