has anyone added another monitor to your I-MAC? Are there ports/slots in these I-MACs?

iMacs have a mini dvi port on them, you just need to get the correct cable to connect it your an external monitor.
The cable would be either the Apple Mini DVI to VGA Adapter:

How do I move Adobe apps to another monitor in Mavericks?

Hi guys, sorry if I'm being obtuse, but since upgrading to Mavericks the one issue I can't seem to figure out is how to completely move my adobe apps across to another monitor.
The problem is now that apps like Illustrator CC, InDesign CC and the like- those with free floating palettes, seem to be stuck on my little 13.3 inch macbook screen unless I move each palette individually to the big screen, but then the menu bar remains on the little MBP screen. If I do anything to the workspace it all then snaps back to the little screen. In ML it seemed to treat the large screen as the primary display automatically and so this was never a problem.
I've let Adobe CC update everything, added mavericks updates, etc but still not having any luck. So far the only option i've found is to mirror the displays, which, honestly, defeats the purpose.
Is there anything I can do? This is a huge workflow issue for me because I do a lot of work on my macbook while connected to a 23" Samsung display via thunderbolt/DVI adapter. I love the size and weight of the smaller macbook but as a primary screen, 13.3 inches just isn't as comfortable to work on as 23 inches

I have this same problem. The other day I solved it using CfMcBlob's first solution, and I was very pleased. However, the problem is happening again with InDesign, but this time I can't try the same solution because "Displays have separate Spaces" is already unchecked.
Just to reiterate, I can drag my workspace window to my second monitor, but all of the tools and top menu stay over on my first monitor. I know that the "actual menu" has to stay on one monitor, but indesign has a top bar with several tools in it that I use all the time, and I'm having to go back and forth. When I first solved this problem, the entire window with the menu bar and tools would open on my other monitor.
Also, I do not want the second solution, because I still use many applications on my original monitor, and I don't want to lose having the "real" top menu here on the left.

How do I hook up another monitor, besides a mac display, to my macbook pro (2011)?

Dual Link DVI allows for seriously high resolution monitors (up to 2560 by 1600 like the Apple 30inch LED Display - Not manufactured anymore), I believe HDMI has a cap of traditional 1080p (1920*1080).
Edit: according to the HDMI Wiki Article it supports resolutions MUCH higher than 1080p, it's a matter of finding a Computer Monitor that supports higher than that (as I believe most Televisions only support up FULL HD 1080p)

Connecting my TouchSmart to another monitor

Hi. We use our TouchSmart PC as a set up for medical training. It operates as a stand alone monitor for observing vital statictics during training. We have it connected to a MacBook which runs software displaying 2 differnet images - on the MacBook it will display the software needed for the training operator, and on the TouchSmart it will display the vital signs which is basically a second window of that same software. So, it's essentially an extended desktop setup, displaying 2 different images and not mirroring each other. We need to take the vital signs feed from the TouchSmart and duplicate it so it is mirrored on another monitor that has VGA input.
Is this possible, and how? It is essential that the VGA input remains in the equation.

First off, SSH is not VPN, so don't confuse the two.
There are similar elements in that they secure the connection between two machines, but they use different approaches and using the wrong term can lead to confusion.
As to the specifics of the problem, the fact that you get in doesn't seem to be the problem, just that you're not prompted for the password. There are a number of reasons for this, including the use of private key authentication (the server knows it's you coming in, so doesn't need to ask for your password), Kerberos (or other single-sign-on technologies) that say once you're logged onto the network anywhere you're logged on everywhere.
To debug this, turn on SSH's verbose mode which will give you information regarding the connection setup. Buried in the log should be the information about how you're authenticated, which will answer the question.

Assuming the thing has any of these inputs it's fine:
Mini-display port
DVI
HDMI
VGA
You will need an adapter as a your late 2009 iMac has minidisplay port output. You will probably need a mini-display port to DVI, HDMI, or VGA adapter. Apple sells all of them in it's online store.

Recent MacBooks have a Mini DisplayPort or a Thunderbolt port, which can be converted to DisplayPort, DVI, VGA, or HDMI. A Mirrored second display is supported by all MacBooks, and many support the more useful "Extended Desktop".
Extended Desktop combines the screens along an edge of your choosing to form a much taller or wider desktop. You can drag windows to either display or split them across displays, and the two parts will scroll and update in perfect synchrony. The feature has been present in the operating System since at least System 4.2 in 1987, and is supported by all well-behaved Mac Applications.
NB: "Full Screen" feature in Mac OS X 10.7 is an iPhone feature ported to Mac OS X, and is useless for large displays and completely frustrating for multiple displays. Do not activate it thinking it is part of the solution -- it is for 4.7 inch single displays.

Some people use MIAWs (movies in a window) to utilise 2
screens -
essentially 2 separate files running in 2 different windows
that can
communicate with one another if needed.
An alternative is to simply set the rect of your single
"stage" window
to span both monitors. However, you'd perhaps want to be sure
that your
users have 2 monitors before doing so. Try the following:

I have a good split-DNS configuration that has been working without issue for some months now since I installed OS X Server Snow Leopard (Mac Mini) at my company's office. We have another machine used as a file server (Mac Pro), without the dedicated server OS installed.
We want to add a virtualized instance of Windows Server 2008 R2 as a guest OS on the Mac Pro via VMWare Fusion. We want to use this Windows Server instance to host some private web based services for our corporate team (intended to be reachable from within the local private network, and remotely, from the public internet (with proper authorization to access only).
So far so good:
-WinServer2008R2 installed as a guest OS on the host Mac Pro
-WinServer's virtual NIC is in bridged mode (joins the host OS's physical network)
-WinServer instance configured with an IP 10.0.1.33, which is set aside and reserved for the WinServer by the local DHCP service on the same network
-WinServer successfully installed and tested IIS7 - both localhost from the WinServer instance and http://10.0.1.33 from other machines on the local private network (and from remote VPN clients) resolve to the WinServer's IIS default page properly.
Where I am stumbling now in configuring DNS on the Mac Mini to properly forward requests aimed at the WinServer instance.
DNS for the local domain is controlled by the Mac Mini. The configuration has been quite simple up to now, as that has met our needs. Just one Primary Zone and one Reverse Zone. We have an external DNS service from DYNDNS that handles any request for our domain from the external public internet. For now I'm not concerned with altering the external DNS service. Once I get the name service to properly resolve requests for the WinServer instance from the local domain, then I'll move onto matching up the external DNS.

So I attempted to add a Machine Record to the Primary Zone with the following settings:

IP Address: 10.0.1.33
When I did this it added the following Reverse Zone:
Reverse Zone:
Reverse Zone Name: 1.0.10.in-addr.arpa.
Nameservers: Zone: 1.0.10.in-addr.arpa. Nameserver Hostname: server.ourcompany.net.
Resolve 10.0.1.33 to: dash.ourcompany.net.
And with the following records added I don't seem to have a proper resolution to 10.0.1.33 when requesting dash.ourcompany.net.
I'm wondering where I should look next in troubleshooting this issue. Any pointers or advice would be very appreciated.

Remove the "Reverse Zone Name: 11.1.0.10.in-addr.arpa."
It's probably left from when you first configured the server.
Though the "Primary Zone Name: ourcompany.net." seems correct.
Then update the 10.0.1.11 record so it's added to the right reverse zone - "1.0.10.in-addr.arpa."
In a MacPro we run VM Ware on a separate interface (en1/"Built in 2") that is forced up using a LaunchDaemon. "Built in 2" must be active in Network config in OS X but don't need to be configured (red "LED").
That way the MacPro can use it's own IP on the en0 interface without disturbing en1 and vice versa.

Powershell script assistance - adding another property to existing script

This is not my script but was written by Richard L. Mueller. It works perfectly for us but I would like to know if the account is enabled or disabled when the output is created. Basically it would output the name, lastlogon and then either enabled or disabled.
I've attempted to add a new property by adding another " $Searcher.PropertiesToLoad.Add" and "$Result.Properties.Item ".
It works fine if I add something like "givenName" but I can't find the property name to show if the account is enabled or disabled.

It is part of the userAccountControl attribute. Retrieve that attribute for each user and test if the ADS_UF_ACCOUNTDISABLE bit (2) is set.

Adding another account would not affect one that you already had. Either the password is wrong, or the server is coincidentally rejecting your credentials for some reason, or you did something different.

I am not sure where you mean when you say the green LED should be on. Do you mean the TC?

In order to help troubleshoot ethernet connections all routers use connectivity leds.. even APPLE.. it has one big LED on the front.. and 4 tiny leds beside each ethernet port. That light has to come on for ethernet to be active.. if you plug an ethernet cable into the port and the light doesn't come on.. then there is no connection.. either the other end isn't plugged in.. or the cable is bad.. or the ethernet port is bad.. something is wrong.
To get access to the TC you need this led to be green.. is it?
If it is green and the WAN is also green.. then I want you to unplug the WAN connection.. the blue wire in the picture.. the port slightly separated from the 3 LAN port.. computer plugged just into LAN port.. no airport turned on.. and press the reset again for 10sec until front led flashes rapidly.. then try and bring up the airport utility again.. assuming the ethernet led is green.
How old and what model is the TC?
The A number from the rubber mat will tell us the model.
