Adding another Verizon router....

I currently have FIOS installed at my home.  I have my wireless router installed on the main level in my home.  The wireless signal is great on the main level and upstairs, but the signal in the basement varies from good to low.  I am looking for a solution that will allow for either better signal strength or adding another router in the basement that connects to my existing FIOS line.  This would also require adding a phone line in the basement as well...unfortunately the previous owner of my home did not have lines put in the basement.
At any rate, can someone assist with this solution.  Thanks in advance

If running an Ethernet aconenction from the Current Router to the Baement is not an option you can get another FIOS Router and connect it to the COAX Cabling in your house.  It has to be configured properly and information can be found here:
http://www.dslreports.com/faq/verizonfios/3.0_Networking#15984
Keep the SSID the same and put the 2nd router on a diffent channel from the 1st.

    Hi Kailik Hunter,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  This article has some steps you can try if you're unable to sign in to your Apple TV and continue with setup:

If you are still having trouble, you can try to reset your equipment by unplugging Apple TV, your television, your wireless networking equipment or AirPort Base Station, and your router from their power outlet. Wait 30 seconds, then plug everything back in.

  • Adding another router

I have a primary router for my fios connection on the main floor of the house. This router provides wireless to the whole house and gets the internet from a coax connection. In my office on the first floor I use my main pc via wireless but I do have a coax connection here and would like to connect another fios router and run a lan cable to my primary pc to actually use the speeds I pay for. Is this possible and if so how? Thanks..

There is a newer version that repeats the wifi signal as well.

  • DNS Error when adding another laptop to wireless router

I have a laptop running Vista networked to my wireless router.  I want to add another laptop running XP to the network via a Belkin Wireless NIC.  It makes the connection OK, but when I launch IE it returns "Cannot find server or DNS Error" and does not load the web page regardless of which site I try to connect to.  I have tried porting the IE software from the Vista laptop and that did not work.  I tried to connect to the Verizon router address using an Ethernet cable, but it could not access the router.  I downloaded the Inhome Agent and used the software from it to no avail.  I have been on the phone several times with Verizon to verify the IE Options setttings and procedures, but they are not able to help.  I have no problem accessing the Internet from a public WiFi site.  I'm sure it is something simple to fix.  Anyone have a solution?

You should verify your ip configuration.  To do so go to the command prompt:
It can be found under start, then type run
    or
    Click start
    programs
    accessories
    command prompt
    now type: ipconfig /all |more
Look for your wireless card and reply back with the following:
     IP Address
     Subnet Mask

  • Windows 7/SBS 2003 Networking Issue complicated by Verizon Router

I posted on Answers.Microsoft.com ( http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-networking/windows-7-suddenly-wont-talk-to-sbs-2003-server/e8116774-6b4f-44d3-91cf-b10df236805a?tm=1405553282721 ) and here at TechNet in the Windows 7 IT Pro
forum ( http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/1f8b8cbc-4b9d-4f68-981c-4c71e7a3f24a/windows-7-suddenly-wont-talk-to-sbs-2003-server-and-viceversa-possibly-dns-but-not-definite?forum=w7itpronetworking ) a problem that I was having with our Windows
7 computers suddenly losing connectivity to our SBS 2003 server. Someone posted an answer (rebooting our router), which worked, but only on a temporary basis. After turning off the router and turning it back on, we get connectivity back for about 3 days, then
we lose it again, and we have to reboot the router again.
I called Verizon, and the tech I spoke to claims that the problem is that the SBS 2003 server should not be the DNS and DHCP server for the network - the Verizon router should be. He's claiming that the fact that we have IP Address Distribution turned off
on their router means that the router never properly knows where each address is assigned. The fact that this all worked up until a week or so ago, and that it's only the Windows 7 machines that are affected, he doesn't have an answer for.
His suggestions were either A) turn off DNS and DHCP on the SBS 2003 server and have both run through the Verizon router, or B) assign static IP addresses to each machine. From what little I know (I inherited this system from someone who left little or nothing
in the way of technical notes) DNS and DHCP have to be running on the SBS 2003 server since it is a domain controller. B) seems possible, as long as I note the static addresses both on the server and on the router.
This still, however, does not really address the underlying issue. Somehow, I think there should be another, easier way to make this work. Especially since, as I said, these Windows 7 machines were content to run for about a year, and only in the past week
or two started having this issue.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The LAN is all one subnet (it's not a very big office), a 192.168.1.X network.
I don't think the router's firmware has been updated recently, although I can't swear to what Verizon might have done "behind my back" (they do funny things with some of their routers, from what I can tell),
The router doesn't sit between the server and the clients - it only links our LAN and WAN (there's 1 port on the router hooked to the uplink port of a 16-port Gigabit switch which handles the LAN).
The router is the default gateway for all the systems on the LAN.
When the Windows 7 problem occurs, a Windows XP client can ping a Windows 7 client and vice versa, but a Windows 7 client can't ping the SBS server nor vice versa (and in all cases, I'm pinging numeric IP addresses, not the name). Since the SBS server is
the DNS server, the Windows 7 clients effectively lose the ability to go out on the Internet, although some programs that must cache the data (like Microsoft Outlook) seem to continue working so I think WAN access is still up for them.

  • How to create Windows 7 Homegroup with Verizon Router

I have a desktop and a laptop, both running Windows 7 (the desktop is running Windows 7 Home Premium, the laptop  is running Windows Ultimate).  With XP I had a nice network and could share printerhs, files, etc .
After I upgraded both machines from XP to windows 7 I cannot get the homegroup to create AND share.  I can create a homegroup on either machine, but in either case the other machine cannot see the home network.
Windows 7 says that Homegroup requires IPv6, but Verizon Routers don't support this protocol.  I have attempted, as noted on the internet, to disable IPv6 on both computers,  but this didn't seem to solve the problem.  I chatted with an Verizon tech support person who told me no IPv6 routers.
I am looking for suggestions on how to successfully network my computers with Windows 7 and my Verizon router.  (Actiontec M1424-WR).  We previously tried to put another router in the interface to do wireless and that didn't work.
    Thank you.

IPv6 connectivity needs to be enabled on the Windows 7 machines to support HomeGroup networking. Make sure you re-enable those. Once IPv6 is re-enabled, verify that the PCs are at least holding a Link-Local IPv6 address. Open up command prompt and type in "ipconfig" to verify it is holding something, first of all. It's also a good idea to make sure Teredo is in working order as well, as it's considered to be needed in order to use IPv6 on an IPv4 router.

My time capsule was working and then I added another Macbook pro. TC stopped appearing in Airport Utilities. I have tried resetting TC, I have turned if off and held reset button with pen for >10 secs. I just cannot work out what else to do? I have turned router off and on. Amber light is flashing.

The ethernet says self assigned IP 169.254.67.6
Then the ethernet is not getting an IP from the TC.. there is no connection.
I am not sure where you mean when you say the green LED should be on. Do you mean the TC?
    Thanks
In order to help troubleshoot ethernet connections all routers use connectivity leds.. even APPLE.. it has one big LED on the front.. and 4 tiny leds beside each ethernet port. That light has to come on for ethernet to be active.. if you plug an ethernet cable into the port and the light doesn't come on.. then there is no connection.. either the other end isn't plugged in.. or the cable is bad.. or the ethernet port is bad.. something is wrong.
To get access to the TC you need this led to be green.. is it?
If it is green and the WAN is also green.. then I want you to unplug the WAN connection.. the blue wire in the picture.. the port slightly separated from the 3 LAN port.. computer plugged just into LAN port.. no airport turned on.. and press the reset again for 10sec until front led flashes rapidly.. then try and bring up the airport utility again.. assuming the ethernet led is green.
How old and what model is the TC?
The A number from the rubber mat will tell us the model.

Help! We have a form with more than 200 entries and when I looked at it yesterday it had one! When you download the form to excel they all show up. However, when I added another record today it disappeared. Can you tell me what's happening? I've been using adobe forms for 2 years with mass response feedback and have never had this problem.

    Greetings,
I've never seen this issue, and I handle many iPads, of all versions. WiFi issues are generally local to the WiFi router - they are not all of the same quality, range, immunity to interference, etc. You have distance, building construction, and the biggie - interference.
At home, I use Apple routers, and have no issues with any of my WiFi enabled devices, computers, mobile devices, etc - even the lowly PeeCees. I have locations where I have Juniper Networks, as well as Aruba, and a few Netgears - all of them work as they should.
The cheaper routers, Linksys, D-Link, Seimens home units, and many other no name devices have caused issues of various kinds, and even connectivity.
I have no idea what Starbucks uses, but I always have a good connection, and I go there nearly every morning and get some work done, as well as play.
You could try changing channels, 2.4 to 5 Gigs, changing locations of the router. I have had to do all of these at one time or another over the many years that I have been a Network Engineer.
    Good Luck - Cheers,
    M.

  • Can't get ip from verizon router to iMac over ethernet

I've got an MI424WR verizon router that is running wireless fine. I also have a Apple Airport Express connected to the Verizon router via ethernet that is running in bridge mode so I can have access to all of my other Apple wireless points and printers in my house. All of this works flawlessly over wireless.
If I plug my iMac into my ethernet cable and then attempt to plug into the back of the Verizon router, I can only get a self assigned IP address on my iMac over ethernet. I've tried many suggestions on the Mac side, from using a manual IP to trashing several prefence files in the system etc. I've also tried a factory reset on the Verizon router. Nothing is working to get the ethernet working to my iMac.
I'm beginning to think it could be a MAC address issue where the Verizon router is not passing or getting something from the iMac correctly, but I have not idea how to really dig into the Verizon router settings to check this out.
Verizon support is less that useless so I'm hoping some savy network folks out there may have some suggestions for me.
thanks for any help you can offer.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Finally a successfull update.
The crux of my problem was something to do with either the last upgrade to Yosemite or to how my Mac was loading startup items or both of these issues.
First, I confirmed that I could connect to the same ethernet cable with another Mac running one OS back from Yosemite. It connected instantly and the Verizon router passed it an ip address with no problem.
Next, I connected my iMac back to the ethernet and then booted my iMac into safemode and then made a new network location in the network prefs. I then turned off the wifi antennae and had the ethernet set to use DHCP. Renewing the DHCP lease still did not work, but once I rebooted again in safe mode with wifi still turned off, after about 5 minutes, the iMac was able to pull a working ip address from the verizon router.
All on the network side was working fine, but once I booted out of safe mode, my finder went into a horrific crash loop. After doing some cleaning of my system preferences and clearing out all startup items I am now back in business.
thanks to all who suggested ideas.

  • How do you set up an Airport Extreme to extend the range of a Verizon router?

Basically I want to know if the new Airport Extreme can be used fro extend the range of a Verizon modem/router?

Not by wireless. The apple routers can act as repeaters only to another apple router.
You can use ethernet or homeplug (EOP adapter) to place the Airport in another location where you need wireless and set it up in bridge mode.
Or you can buy another airport.. a cheap second hand extreme is very possible.. plug that into  the Verizon by ethernet and extend with the second apple wireless.. but nope.. you cannot do it directly.

  • Adding another Airport Extreme – I'm having problems-

    …please help.
I am a total novice when it comes to networking so please explain clearly. I had one AE connected to some speakers in the kitchen so I could stream music there. I got another AE today to connect to my router to hopefully provide a quicker and more reliable wireless connection.
I'm having problems adding the 2 AE to the same network. Tried lots of different ways but nothings worked. I can't my mac to find them both at the same time? When I try to add the other one it asks me to switch networks. When I switch networks i can't see the previous one so I can't add it.
is there any step by step guide to getting 2 AE up and running i.e. adding another AE to an existing network?
    Cheers in advance.

kroc_kroc, Welcome to the discussion area!
Even though the title of your thread says "Extreme" I thing you really mean "Express".
If you are trying to connect the 2nd AirPort Express (AX) wirelessly...
    (1) Make sure that the 2nd AX is in an area with a good wireless signal from your current wireless network.
    (2) Configure the 2nd AX to join a wireless network and select your current wireless network.

  • Adding another Westell 327W, currently have D90-327W15-06. Can I use A90, B90 or C90?

I'm adding a second Westell 327W to my residence.  The first one is a D90-327W15-06 and works great.  I wanted to add another wired connection to a different part of my residence and I know I have to add a Westell 327w, but wondered if I could add the following:
    A90-327W15-06
    B90-327W15-06
    or
    C90-327W15-06
and would that work with the current DSL signal I get throughout the house?  Do  I need to only add the D90-327W15-06 version of the Westell 327W?
    Thanks

#1 You can replace a modem combo.
#2 The only way to use more than one modem combo, unless I am mistake, is to have another phone number.
#3 You can add a wireless extender or another wireless router (but setup as a Hub/Switch/Wap) if you want to extend the existing network.
About converting a second router into a Hub/Switch/OR Wap, see:

  • Can I have my Time Capsule wifi and my Verizon router wifi on at the same time?

I want to have my verizon wifi on at the same time as my time capsules wifi but I don't know if it interfere.  There's an app that you can use as a remote for your cable box but you need to be on your routers wifi.
    Thanks,

Suggest that you run a few speed checks on both wireless networks with a computer in same room as the wireless router using a site like www.speedtest.net on your browser.
If you are getting close to your plan speeds, then you likely do not have interference issues.
Most routers will scan to find the best available channel to use, so assuming that your equipment is working OK, things should be OK. Try to keep the Verizon router and Time Capsule at least 6-8 feet, or a few meters from each other.
This assumes that you are not living in a crowded situation like an apartment complex, where intereference is pretty much a fact of life due to the very limited number of wireless channels that are available.
