Adding apple loops?

Hi guys,
Wonder if you can help me with this.
I have a few Big Fish sample cd's that have apple loops on them, is there a way I can add them so they show up in the logic apple loops browser in the appropriate section?
Where would I need to copy them? I have all my samples on an external hd so would it be possible to reference them to show up in the browser??
Many thanks in advance.

Hello,
I am having trouble making my own apple loops and am hoping someone can helo: When I highlight an audio region in the arrange window, use the "add to apple loops library" under the local region command, the loop shows up in the apple loops browser, but it is an empty audio region when i drag into the arrange window to an audio track. when i drag a midiloop into the browser, it seems to work out fine, and i can create a green apple loop, but not with audio. i've noticed, that the loops are saved under users/library/apple loop/user loops/single files, but even when i try to import the audio files from this folder as audio into the arrange window or audio window, they still come up as empty files. can anyone tell me what i'm doing wrong?
thanks in advance.

Yes, some of the Apple loops are protected (Jobs knows why). You can change this by searching the file in the finder with spotlight, then hit apple+i->menue opens->click into the lock->set your permissions to "read and write"->done. Unfortunately this procedure has to be performed seperately for each protected loop.

  • Adding presumed APPLE loops to GB3/browser

    okay
    cut me a break here.
I just downloaded about 30 Apple loops by Smart media.
They are aiffs. Some have wavs.
what are the exact intelligent steps to take to get these inside GB3 so that they are indexed and ready to be called up by typing their name? This is not as easy as you think.
they are loops for electric guitar, bass and percussion.
I have the appropriate folder in my HD. But what must i do to get them properly as per protocol to land inside the browser and be usable. Thanks for the lesson.
( I loaded them in the folders. I then dragged them onto the browser and they just cant be found )

i work on a 2 computer set at home 1pc and 1 mac...on the pc i use acid and i have thousands of loops i love and i wanted to use on gb , so i put them on a disk and added them to my itunes folder so when i click on the eye icon on the lower right corner i can axcess these loops and add them to my songs..so i suggest mabe something like that

  • Apple Loops Custom brower (adding samples)

Does anyone know if it's possible to custom change the category of music you put your loops into? For example I create 3 samples and would like to add them to apple loops utility so during production I can test them out over other parts in a song to see if they go. But the question is how exactly do you get your custom loops in a custom created folder you made within apple loops. What is the fastest method for this.
sorry for the repeated post just wanted to start fresh over and make sure I had the correct question across.

    What works for me:
Create a new folder in ~/Library/Audio/Apple Loops/User Loops with any name you want. Drop your new loops into that folder, and drop that new folder on to the Loop browser window for indexing. You may (or may not) have to restart Logic - I don't remember…

  • Re indexing issues in Apple Loop Browser (LP 9.0.2 / OSX 10.6.1 / Digi 002r

I'm trying to re index my loop browser in LP9 / OSX10.6.1
Are you having the same problem?
After trashing the 'Apple Loop Index', I pull in a folder from an external drive and notice that previous folders added to my browser have gone, including Jam Packs.
Also, I can't find the 're-index' option within the loop browser search option (right click brings down a list but the re-index option isn't there)
Interested to see whet you find.

Yep, I also had issues, where indexing the LP8 way (dragging folders with loops from the Finder onto the Logic loop browser) just bluffed to work (I dropped the folder on the LB, a progress window appeared, things apparently got done, but then nothing, no new entries in the Loop Browser.
So it seems that it is a L9 problem, since our Macs' are different in every aspect (Me: PPC- you: Intel, me: Leopard- you: Snow Leopard).
I finally decided to put all my loops in their default install locations and reindex them from there:
    *Library/Audio/Apple Loops/Apple:*
Jam Pack 4 - Symphony Orchestra
    Jam Pack Voices
    Jam Pack World Music
    *Library/Audio/Apple Loops/iLife Sound Effects:*
    (13 folders)
    *Library/Audio/Apple Loops/User Loops:*
(some folders with my own and 3rd party Loops)
    *Library/Application Support/Garageband/Apple Loops:*
    Apple Loops for Garageband
    Jam Pack 3- Rythm Section
for thorough reindexing, here are the steps:
    1. Quit Logic and/or any other app that uses Apple Loops.
    2. Go to all the locations I pointed out and trash all the index files from the *Apple Loops Index* folders. Also check the same locations in your Users/'you'/Library folder.
    3. Start Logic with a new empty project, open the loop browser window by hitting the o key. Now drag the folders mentioned above in bold onto your loop browser. Logic should now index them correctly, including the foldermenu !http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2743/4085966954bf4fc039d7o.png! in the loop browser.

  • Some Apple Loops refuse to index when dropped onto the Loop Browser

I'm hoping somebody has a fix for this odd problem. Some of the Apple Loops which came with version 1.0.1 refuse to index via the loop browser.
First off, I had to re-install GarageBand 1.0.1 after an invalid library error message appeared after upgrading to Tiger. The re-install wasn't completed totally and it did the same thing on 2 attempts. The next error message was: Apple Loops are missing, or something to that effect. I had to install the Apple Loops found in HD->Library->Application Support->GarageBand by dropping them onto the GarageBand Loop Browser at the bottom of its window. It indexed them, they appeared, and I was happy.
Today, for some reason, I looked through the loops folder mentioned above and noticed about one third of the loops do not appear in the Loop Browser, naturally some really neat stuff is missing! So I decided to drag & drop these Apple loop files onto the browser individually. It says it's indexing them, althought the guitar icon in the dock jumps while doing so, but they never appear and don't show-up in the search box either. They can however be dropped onto the Timeline from the Finder and will play as a music file. The problem is that I cannot listen to them from the loop browser for easy selecting when arranging.
Is there any way to get these stubborn Apple files to appear & play in the Loop Browser? I was hoping they could be added via the Timeline to the Loop Browser, but have had no success. Also, I tried the Apple Loops Utility thinking maybe the appropriate tags were missing, but can't figure out what is missing, if anything.
Thanks in advance for your help.

The Loop Browser filters what it displays by only showing loops in the same Time Signature as the song you've created, and within 2 semitones of the Key your song is in.
You can change the latter by tuning off Keyword Browsing in GB's preferences.

  • Apple Loops from Regions problem...

    Greetings,
Having a problem when I add a region to Apple Loops in Logic Express 8....
I've read some similar threads, but nothing that answers these issues..
After creating a region using the Ultrabeat or a synth (all internal), I'll select the region and go up
to the 'Region' drop down menu and select the first option, 'Add to apple loops library'...
I came across this process naturally and it seemed to work fine, but then some of the loops created
acted differently than others.  When I drag some of them into the Arrage area, and press play,
they will playback no matter what position they are at.
For example if I have a beat that starts at 1., but I have the recently added 'problem' loop at 4.,
this 'problem' loop will play back from 1 as well, no matter if it's at 4, or 24...
I'm not sure why this is happening to some and not others....???
Did i accidentally do something to these that I didn't do to the others?
Also, I figured I'd just delete them and create new ones, but then I couldn't find them ANYWHERE
on my harddrive!!!???   I really don't get this one...
I've read about the Apple Loops Utility now and I guess i should use that for future loop creation?
I really don't understand how the loops I made are no where to be found, not even in the
                     Apple Loops/User Loops folder....
Would really, really appreciate if someone could help w/ this conundrum!

    Ouch.... That's a real bummer.
I would recommend trying the "re-conversion" with just a few loops and seeing how it works for you. I've had to do this before as well. I had a library from L7 that I had converted using ALU inside L8's arrange window. For some reason, the loops that I had never used in that project that I had converted were not converted after I deleted the project that I used them in... make sense? not to me either....
The whole Apple Loop Utility is awesomely useful sometimes and buggy to the point of frustration at others....
Also, is there any consistent pattern to the "off-timeiness" of the loops? (i.e: only midi loops, only audio loops, only slows down, only speeds up, "choppy", etc...)

  • Tempo setting when creating Apple Loops (Utility)

Having chopped a long audio file (drum track) into exact bar/beat settings, saved as separate audio files, I'm having trouble with tempo settings when creating Loops in Apple Loops Utility.
The problem is that after saving a looped file (from the Utility), upon loading that loop file into the Utility again, the (interpreted) tempo of the file is now doubled, which really screws up playback and placement of the loop file.
For example, my original tempo is 72bpm. I save the files as Looping, with the correct number of beats for each file (4 for a 1 bar file, 8 for 2 bars, etc.), and the tempo in the info section on the right side of the Utility correctly shows 72bpm. After saving the file as a loop, and then opening it again in the Utility, suddenly the tempo shows 144, and playback is at half speed.
Oddly, I was able to successfully do this to another track from a song at a faster tempo. In that case, the loop files open as expected. And I'm using exactly the same process this time... humm???
How can I get around this?

    Hi, thanks for the tip.
In this case, I have not added the loop to the loop library. Therefore it is not in the browser.
If I drag it from the audio bin, however, sometimes it will work. Other times it does not. I cannot seem to find a "cause and effect" here.
    Thanks.
What version of Logic are you running. It works fine for me on Logic 9.1.3 in 32-bit mode. I seem to remember having the same problem as you're experiencing in Logic 8.0.2

  • Apple Loops Questions

    1) Where does Logic store user-created loops that I've added to the library?
    2) What is the easiest/best way to convert a regular .aiff or .wav file into an apple loop?
    3) I'm getting a lot of artifacts when I use loops I created--even when the loop is being played back at the same tempo as the original! Is this normal? You'd think that if the original cut was 120 BPM, and I turn it into an Apple loop, and stick it into another project at 120 BPM, there should be no artifacts, right?
    4) Sometimes when I click "add to loop library" Logic won't let me select "looping" as an option. This is after I've already analyzed the cut in Apple Loops Utility. What's up with that?
Any help, insight or guidance would be appreciated.
    Thank you!

1/ apple loops folder / check them ....
I see folders for all Apple's loops and jam packs, but nothing for my loops.
Edit: Found them They are at:
    ~/Library/Audio/Apple Loops/User Loops
Before I was checking the root /Library, which is why I couldn't find them.
2/ apple loop utility application / check it ...
I have been using it, but considering the strange behavior I'm getting (see question #3 and #4) I think I might be missing a step or doing it wrong. Right now I open an audio selection in Apple Loops Utility, fill in the tags, mess around with the transient sensitivity, then "save." So why can't I add it as a loop after that?
    3/ no of course.
Any idea what I might be doing wrong?
4/ add to appleloop library doesn't mean it is converted, check appleloop utilty first then add them to the Lib
I did use the loop utility first. I mentioned that in my original post.

  • Why doesn't Logic recognize my loop as an Apple Loop

I have challenges with getting LPX to recognize my wav > aiff file as a bona fide apple loop that I can then stretch tempos.
I have a drum brushes loop that I exported in WIN7/Audition, saved as wav and moved over the my mac. Then I dragged it into LPX, found the correct exact tempo manually (60bpm) in order to make an Apple Loop. Couldn't do it with the wav so saved it as an aiff from within LPX. LPX sees the "tempo information" (not really) and then was able to drag into Apple Loops browser, still, didn't create the tempo meta data or whatever it does to allow me to stretch it. I drag the re-indexed loop on an audio track and it's juts the same 60 bpm loop. Changing my global tempo does not alter the tempo of the loop.
Appreciate any help it getting another 10 bpm outta this thing for a project. Took forever to find a decent ballad drum with brushes!
    thanks

OK that works insofar as it saves the file with no issues and I can drag into the track area (does say there is time data to import- "YES") but it doesn't change with global tempo changes.
Also maybe there is a problem with the index? I deleted the other attempts from User Loops >SingleFiles folder but LPX still is searching for the file at every index.
    So two problems now:
index still looks for older files
ALU is saving but LPX not changing tempo of Apple Loop
I read the manual re: file type.
The File Type tag determines if an application treats a file as a looping or non-looping file. Looping files are matched to the project tempo and key— if the Key tag is set to a value other than None. Non-looping files are not matched to the project tempo or key. (Untagged files added to a project are treated as non-looping.)
When I choose "Looping" in ALU, it changes the sound drastically which although would give tempo stretch, is probably ties to it thinking it's 120 bpm (and not 60)?
Yet it was recorded at 60 bpm.
The catch-22 is that the ALU can't recognize my tempo and if I change it (via choosing "looping", the only way to correct the beats btw) it messes with the sound because it's twice as fast.
Otherwise, as a non-loop, I'm stuck with only 60 bpm (even though it has "time data" to import)

  • Apple Loops rights

An other Apple Loops copyright question:
Let's say I use some Apple Loops in a 5 min contest video in order to sell it to the contest host (So he has a reference for this years contest). Might be uploaded on youtube + their site.. Would that be a problem?
    Description of usage:
I have two Apple Loops and one of my own samples playing on and off, but the two Apple Loops have more playtime and they're at a low volume when people speak and such which is for the most part of the video. They fade out come in again etc.
These two audio files (Apple Loops) including my own sample, have nothing done to them other than being mixed and arranged in one track.
Other than that, no further self compositions added. And if it makes any difference, my own sample is played in the middle of the video.
So, one Apple Loop in the beginning section mine in the middle and another Apple Loop at the end section.
Is this to repackage them as music beds (Illegal)?
Or is the "soundtrack" original (Am I cleared)?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Apple loops again... again

I installed the new Garageband, but decided to work in Garageband ´11 (5) instead. Fine.
But something happened with my apple loops. I have no flutes anymore, occationally i found one that the system didn't recognize, a mideveal flute. I bought the full packet of loops that can be added to Garageband 10, where do I find them? And how do I add all the loops to Garageband '11......... I try to read former letters on this issue, but haven't found out anyting. For  example this page http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1045 . Both places they tell me to find loops in
    /Library/Application Support/GarageBand/Apple Loops/  or   /Library/Audio/Apple Loops/Apple/
have empty folders, are the loops hidden? Or the folders are not placed like this.
As I understand form another discussion, when I find the loops I can just drag them to Garageband, loopsbrowser for Garageband to find them.... is it true?
    Bodil

    Hi Léonie
    Thanks for your answer... :-)
I had lots of loops in /Library/Audio/Apple Loops/Apple/
I removed them to a folder on the desktop.
    The folder /Library/Application Support/GarageBand/Apple Loops/ didn't exist'
And I had no loops in the folder
    /Library/Audio/Apple Loops/User Loops
I deleted the loops and opened garageband, still some loops in garageband ?????
I dragged the loops to the loopsbrowser anyway... ?????
Now I have two new flutes and no medieval flute in an new song.... but still the medieval flute in an old song???
Now all the loops shows in the user folder
    /Library/Audio/Apple Loops/User Loops
And the following folder is empty /Library/Audio/Apple Loops/Apple/
Wonder where do the resisting loops hide? This is the great answer and how do I find them???

  • My Apple Loops are not selectable. Can anyone help me with this please?

Whenever I open up my Apple Loops on Logic Pro X, they are not selectable.
I have tried reinstalling the program and reinstalling the loops, but that did not work.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

What do you mean.. nothing happened?
Make sure you followed the instructions exactly.....
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
    Click Spotlight.
    Click the Privacy tab.
Drag a folder or an entire volume (your hard drive) to the list.
If prompted for confirmation, click OK.
Remove the item or volume you just added to the list by clicking it and then clicking the minus ("-") button.
    Close Spotlight preferences.
Spotlight will re-index the contents of the folder or volume.

  • Converted apple loops won't add to logic.

I think others have had the same problem but I just spent hours converting wavs to apple loops and in the end, more than half of them won't even show up in logic. The ones that do show up in the logic loop pane are not "looping" either even though I selected the "looping" tag in ALU. I tried rebuilding the DB with no luck and adding the folder again with no luck. I can't believe managing loops is this hard in logic. Apple needs to take a not from ableton on loop management for sure.
Does anyone know how to get the apple loops utility to actually work right?
    Thanks all!

    It's not really a solution, more of a workaround, but I've had some luck doing this;
Since ALU just changes the data on the file, and rebuilding the database seems to only affect original, included Apple Loops (which is horse crap, btw) I decided to change their info with ALU, then import them like any other file into a Logic project.
When I do it that way, after I have added them to the bin, they are searchable in the loops browser. It seems that converting them to Apple Loops using the standalone ALU does not necessarily make them searchable by Logic's internal loop browser. But, if you add them to project's bin manually or create them in the arrange window (which also adds them to the bin) then they become searchable.
I'm not sure why, it just has worked for me. It's still really inconvenient for converting large loop libraries for searching and sequencing in Logic though. No improvement on that from L8 to L9 either.

  • Adding / deleting loops - where Garageband is relevant....

All - this is a question involving Garageband, but only because I have heard Logic will "inherit" GB projects, so I'm assuming (not having bought it yet, pending this question possibly), that Logic operates its loops area the same way.
I stumbled on this (archived) thread....
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1896042
... trying to find out why I couldn't:
    a) delete a loop folder that I added:
I know where the Library\Audio\Apple Loops\User Loops folders are, and have
    - deleted a couple folders I dragged to the Loop Browser,
    - deleted the index files, etc,
...but there is still one folder showing up in the "User Loops" menu section, and all its files, and this folder is NOT in the above Library\Audio\Apple Loops\User Loops folder path. Where is it, and its files?
Also, I thought I read that you could delete individual loop files just using the Delete key. That doesn't respond either, but it could be because I'm using a Windows keyboard.
    b) see other loop folders show up that I tried to add:
After seeing two folders show up that I dragged to the L.B., no other folders dragged will show up, in the browser or in the Library\Audio\Apple Loops\User Loops folder/area. I tried
    - copying a folder full of files (these are all .wav files by the way) to the
    above ...\User Loops path, then
    - dragging that to the L.B., which started a "Garageband is reindexing... "
message... but it never showed up in the L.B., nor did it make a new index
    file.
All very odd and inconsistent. If Logic uses the same sort of loop add/delete browser functionality, it's doubtful if I'm going to buy it, if I can't even get this problem solved. I need to be able to use my own drum loop files, and see them. Thanks in advance for any help. It's GB '09 v5.1 by the way.

Typically I have had this happen when the loops I have tried to add, were not proper Apple Loops for some reason... I assume you have been using the ALU to create the Apple Loops yes? if so, did you enter info in all the fields needed?
There can be other reasons though...
    For example,
Are the loops in other time sigs to 4/4 for example? If so make sure you select ANY in the Signature drop down menu in the Loop Browser to see them...otherwise you only see loops in 4/4 and they won't show up when you look for them. The same applies to to the scale filter in the browser too...Set that to ANY too...
Finally, to confirm it is an error of some kind, be it user or Logic...have you checked the actual Apple Loops Folder to make sure the missing ones do actually reside there?
