Adding ARTIST name to ALBUM folder name

Hi folks,
I've looking around for a script that might do this but so far still looking. Any suggestions appreciated in advance.
I have an itunes library (organized in the usual ARTIST folders with ALBUM subfolders). I'll be using this library outside of itunes in an environment where I'll need to remove the first level of ARTIST folders.
Any ideas of a way (or script) to add the ARTIST name to the inner ALBUM folder name?
So the the ALBUM folders would be renamed "[artist]-[album]"....
(one that would run on a PPC 10.5.8 or lower)
Seems like a simple script...I just haven't found it yet.
Thanks in advance.

Yes, thanks Limnos, I've utilized Doug's scripts. I wasn't able to find this there, and would like asking Doug to be a last resort.
The answer to this may be a simple folder script (unrelated to itunes)... or, yes, perhaps an actual itunes script.
Any ideas anyone?....
Thanks!

  • Query Builder List of Report Names & their corresponding Folder Names

    HI there,
    I have in excess of 6000 reports deployed in my Crystal system.
    I need to pull 2 sets of data:
    1. I need a list of all report names & their corresponding folder names
    2. I need a list of all report names & their corresponding folder names where:
           a) The destination for the schedule is set to Email
           b) The 'to" field contains any email addresses with the value @fcl.internal in them
    Grateful for any assistance you can provide.
    Many thanks....Corinne

    This is a challenge that will require multiple queries or an application using the the SDK.
    To get the folder where a report is located, you'll need to query CI_INFOOBJECTS where SI_ID = the PARENT_ID value in the report.  To get the entire path, you'll have to "walk" up the PARENT_ID values until the value is 0, which is the root folder.
    I'm not sure whether you can get to the SchedulingInfo properties in the report to filter based on your second requirement - I'm working on an application to pull this information in my "copious" spare time, but I haven't had the opportunity to get into that part of the application yet.
    For some samples of code using the .NET SDK to do various thing, see my website at [www.dellstinnett.com/sample_code.html].  Code for walking the folder path is in the BOECommonInfo assembly.

  • Album Folder Names Truncated

    I am importing my Sounds Of The Seventies collection from CD. My issue arises when I import albums that have names greater than 40 characters, I get folder names like
    Sounds Of The Seventies - Punk and New W
    Sounds Of The Seventies - AM Pop Classic
    Classic Rock [Creedence Clearwater Reviv
    Now, that's ok if I don't have any other albums that have the same 1st 40 characters I guess, although it's annoying that the folder doesn't have the full name.
    The big problem is when I have albums lik
    Sounds Of The Seventies - AM Pop Classics I
    Sounds Of The Seventies - AM Pop Classics II
    They both go into the same truncated folder Sounds Of The Seventies - AM Pop Classic. Renaming the folder after import and trying to add them via Add File doesn't work either.
    I wouldn't even mind if I could create a Sounds Of The Seventies as the Artist, and not mark it as a compilation, and put the shortened album titles underneath
    Any ideas?

    Check the option to Keep iTunes Media organized under Edit > Preferences > Advanced.  The Copy files to iTunes Media folder option should also be checked if you want to make sure that all media is stored under the iTunes Media folders.

  • Find photos by Folder name or Import Folder name into Metadata

    In iPhoto, I can locate photos by folder name. Is this available in Aperture (Managed or Referenced)? From what I've seen, you can only search on metadata fields, none of which contain folder names.
    If I cannot search on folder names, can Aperture import folder names into Metadata automatically. In other words, if I import a directory tree 2009Games, with subfolders Game-ABC, Game-DEF, etc.
    Can Aperture insert the subfolder name into the photo's metadata? I know I can add the text manually, but I would like Aperture to import a top level folder like 2009Games, and add the subfolder directory name to each photo's metadata.
    If that is not an option, how does someone migrate from folder organization to metadata searches without renaming every photo?

    What project and folder naming structure do you intend to use in Aperture to manage your collection?
    The inclusion of the file name in metadata for searching purposes seems to be redundant as you can always, if you really need to, see where a particular image is located on the hard disk by right clicking on it in Aperture and selecting "Show in Finder".

  • How to get iTunes to update artist/album folder names after editing file metadata

    If I edit the metadata for a song, such as the song title, it updates the actual file on my computer as well. However, if I edit the album name or artist name, it does not update the artist or album folders. Is there a way to force iTunes to do this? I have music coming from 3 different sources, Amazon, iTunes, and CD rips, and it's very common for artist names to appear differently from different sources. I'd like to be able to just add everything to iTunes, update any inconsistencies, and then have those changes automaticaly be reflected in my \iTunes Media\Music folder. Is that possible? Otherwise I end up with multiple folders for the same artist.

    Check the option to Keep iTunes Media organized under Edit > Preferences > Advanced.  The Copy files to iTunes Media folder option should also be checked if you want to make sure that all media is stored under the iTunes Media folders.

  • Sorting, 1 artist, 2 different albums same name

    I'm trying to make the albums "Einstein On the Beach" by Philip Glass separate. I have a 1979 recording, and a 1993 version, but they both go sort together, and I want to be able to separate them without changing their names. How can I do that?

    If you want the photo with different names in different albums, you have to create a second version of the photo and then use different versions in your two albums. Albums do not actually store the photos, they just reference the version of the photo in the event. If you change the name of a version in one album, it will change the version in the event and all albums update to the new name.
    To create a new version of your photo use the command "Duplicate" from the "Photos" menu. That will not actually duplicate the original image file, but just create a new edited version.

  • Login Name and  Home Folder names don't match

    Many months ago I embarked on a mission to clean up a drive which I ported over to another computer and in the process tried to rename the user name but I can't get the home folder to reflect the user's new name.
    On launch the computer has the proper user name but the home folder retained the old user name.
    Is there a way to correct this?
    I am stumped.

    Neil
    I just wanted to let you know that I will not attempt your procedure yet until my wife has finished her thesis.
    I have no reason to believe it will not work but should I make any mistake along the way I would rather have it happen later.
    Once I run the procedure I will be back to mark your advice as a solution and answer to my question. So for now I will leave it marked as helpful.
    Thanks, I appreciate the quick response and look forward to finally having my wife's iBook consistent in terms of user name, in the meantime the machine is working great!

  • How to get right folder name/location on import?

    I can't seem to get LR 3.x to import into the desired folder structure like I used to do with
    LR 1.x and 2.x.  I'm trying for a structure that looks like this:
    I want LR to automatically create a folder with the date stamp in it and located in the right year and then let me enter the the last part of the folder name that identifies the subject matter before the import starts.  So far, all I can get is the auto-generated folder name by date with no ability to edit that or a fully custom folder name where I have to both locate it properly and type the entire name including date.  In LR 1.x and 2.x, this was really easy.  LR would suggest the folder name (or multiple folder names if the images span multiple dates) with the date in it and I could just double click on it to add to the supplemental name before the import.  Can't find any way to do that in LR 3.x.  What it means is that I have to do the import, wait for it to complete, then come back and manually rename each folder it created.  This is particularly a pain when there are multiple folders (across multiple dates) and/or when my backup program has already kicked in and done a backup of the auto-generated date before I come in and manually rename it.
    So, my question is, how do I get LR to auto-suggest the right date-based folder name in the right folder location and let me add something onto the end of it before the import?  This was very easy in LR1.x and 2.x import.

    It slipped under the radar when redoing the new import window.
    Hopefully, we'll get it back in next major update. In the meantime. you
    can add the additional text post import by right clicking on folder name
    then choosing Rename from context menu.
    Thanks Ian.  I hope it does indeed come back.  Renaming the directories manually is what I do now - it just extra work from how I used to do it and it doesn't fit smoothly into the workflow because LR seems to get confused sometimes if I rename while it's still importing or while still building thumbnails.  For a big import, that means I have to go away, let the thumbnails build, then remember to come back promptly to rename the directory before my backup scheme starts backing up the wrongly named directory.  I've managed since 3.x came out, but it finally annoyed me enough I thought I'd post in hopes I was just missing a way to do this.  I sure hope this comes back in a future version.  Organizing by named "shoot" is a very natural way for me to do it.

  • How to find list or folder name from SharePoint document URL

    I'm implementing the SharePoint client object model in my VSTO application in .NET framework 4.0(C#).
    Actually we open MS Word files from SharePoint site, we need to create a folder inside the opened documents list/folder and after it we want to upload/add some files to that created folder.
    My problem is that how to get list name/title and folder name of opened document by using the documents URL or Is there an another option to find the list or folder name of opened document.
    Any help will be appreciable.

    In document Library you can get the name of document library directly in URL. for folder name you can try below:
    using System;
    using Microsoft.SharePoint;
    namespace Test
    class ConsoleApp
    static void Main(string[] args)
    using (SPSite site = new SPSite("http://localhost"))
    using (SPWeb web = site.OpenWeb())
    if (web.DoesUserHavePermissions(SPBasePermissions.BrowseDirectories))
    // Get a folder by server-relative URL.
    string url = web.ServerRelativeUrl + "/shared documents/test folder";
    SPFolder folder = web.GetFolder(url);
    try
    // Get the folder's Guid.
    Guid id = folder.UniqueId;
    Console.WriteLine(id);
    // Get a folder by Guid.
    folder = web.GetFolder(id);
    url = folder.ServerRelativeUrl;
    Console.WriteLine(url);
    catch (System.IO.FileNotFoundException ex)
    Console.WriteLine(ex.Message);
    Console.ReadLine();

  • How do I search the folder tree by parts of a folder name. Is there a folder library similar to the bookmark library to aid folder organization?

    How can I search by email account folder names and bookmark folder names by keywords or parts of folder name? Is there a way to enter and associate keywords to email/bookmark folder names?
    We file all our email transactions and bookmarks in an inverted tree structure under the appropriate ISP account and user name but often end up with duplicate taxonomical entries under multiple ISP accounts such as one for Roadrunner or Google-mail address for the same Windows user account and name. I sometimes create an identical folder in both accounts. Being able to search by foldername across email accounts in the same Windows username would be wonderful to correct bifurcations in folder name taxonomy.
    What am I not doing right - Please?
    Thank you kindly - Chris

    Dear Zenos,
    Thank you ever so much. That was exactly what I'd wished for and need. I have installed it on all five of my computers.
    I have been working on electronics and computers component level and programming since I was a Ham radio operator at age 14. This is one of the few times I've ever asked for an answer to a question and had it so fully satisfied by someone else rather than having to muddle my way through to a solution on my own.
    Now that might not seem to be much praise (if you figure I might be 15) but I was 14 in 1963 and I held the position of senior corporate technical support engineer for Data General Corp. (old mini-computer manufacturer) I've been working on computers since bits were wooden!
    Anyway ... THANKS .. I really mean it!

  • IPhoto Folder Names Different Than Event Names?

    Hello!  I have used iPhoto since 2007, before Time Machine, and I back up all of my events as I upload them onto a zip drive.  In the past, before Yosemite, when I would go into the iPhoto package contents, I would select the year (2014), and I could easily find the name of the event I just uploaded.  I would then drag it to my zip drive.
    Since the Yosemite upgrade, the iPhoto package content folders do not match my event names in iPhoto.  Why is this?  How can I make it so that the originals within the iPhoto package content folder again matches that of my iPhoto events?  In the past, when I have made any changes within Finder, I have regretted it, so I don't think that is the solution.  Just wondering why the event names and the folder names are not matching up any more, and if there is an easy fix to this.
    Thank you in advance!!!

    What you were doing was not supported and it changed about 6 years ago.
    The supported way to do what you want is simply to export the originals from iPhoto to folders named for the Event. Takes the same time.
    File -> Export and set the Kind to Original.
    This User Tip
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4921
    has details of the options in the Export dialogue.

  • Account and home folder names don't match

    i'm the only user on my mac, and the account is set to my full name. somehow, i made the home folder a different name. is there any way to change the home folder name so that it matches what i have as the account name?

    home folder name is set to your short login name (not long login name) by default. If that's what it is now I would recommend against changing it. if you REALLY want to change it you can but it's known to cause some issues.
    see this link for details.

  • HT1229 How do you transfer photos to external backup and keep the photos in events with event name or with description name. Each time I have tried to transfer them they only transfer with a jpg number so you don't know what photos are what.

    How do you transfer photos to external backup and keep the photos in events with event name or with description name. Each time I have tried to transfer them they only transfer with a jpg number so you don't know what photos are what. When you have several thousand photos it is difficult to determined what is what.
    Why does iPhoto have the ability to put photos in events and to give them descriptions if it doesn't transfer this info with the photo. I want to back my photos up to an external drive.

    The simplest way to achieve what you want is to back up the iPhoto Library. That will get everything.
    You sem to be exporting from iPhoto to the Finder. The Finder does not have the same organisation capabilities as iPhoto. If you're going to do that you need to understand some of the differences between the two.
    Event Name will become  Folder Name.
    'Description Name' I guess is the Title you give the Photo
    Jpeg Number is the File Name assigned by your camera.
    So: File -> Export
    Set your Kind to Jpeg
    Select your preferred Quality
    Check the Boxes at 'Titles and Descriptions' and Location Information
    Under FIlename select 'Use Title'
    Click on Export. In the Next Window choose a New Folder as your export destination and then Name that as you prefer

  • Importing CD to Artist folder\Album folder\file with track number and name:

    I have a problem then importing my cd’s to my harddisk using iTunes.
    On my previous pc I got what I want, Artist folder, Album folder and file with track number and name:
    e.g.
    D:\My Music\B.B. King\Blues On The Bayou\01 Blues Boys Tune.mp3
    D:\My Music\B.B. King\Blues On The Bayou\02 Bad Case Of Love.mp3
    D:\My Music\B.B. King\Blues On The Bayou\03 I'll Survive.mp3
    But now I get:
    D:\My Music\Compilations\Blues On The Bayou\01 Blues Boys Tune.mp3
    D:\My Music\ Compilations \02 Bad Case Of Love.mp3
    D:\My Music\ Compilations \03 I'll Survive.mp3
    In iTunes my settings are Edit -> Preferences -> Advanced: iTunes Music folder: D:\My Music and checkmark in both: “Keep iTunes Music folder organized” and “Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library”.
    My version of iTunes is 8.0.1.11
    Thanks in advance
    Peter

    It will depend on the album. Gracenote considers anthologies, a collection of tracks by the same artist taken from different albums, as a compilation. In iTunes the compliation setting should really only be applied to a collection of tracks by different artists.

  • How does one add compilation CD's already mixed by the same artist.  I want to put them in their OWN spot under the artist and I want to NAME the album.  Is it possible?  Or am I just out of luck.  I've tried everything.

    I want to find out how to add my mixed CD's under the folder of the artist.  I want to save them on my computer in itunes.  I want to NAME the album, but so far I haven't been able to do that.  I named ONE and then ALL the rest of the CD's I am trying to save are put in the same place.  Very frustrating.
    These are mixed Christmas songs done by the same artist, and some are the same songs.  But the albums are separate.  Why can't I give an album I am exporting a name?

    Indeed, generally all you need to do is fill in an appropriate Album Artist. For more details see my article on Grouping Tracks Into Albums, in particular the topic One album, too many covers.
    Don't try to use sort fields to merge different things together as it quickly goes wrong. These should be used consistently to make all things with one value sort as if they had a different one, e.g. Bowie, David to make David Bowie sort under B.
