Adding attached images to iPhoto

The ability to add attached images to iPhoto from Mail by choosing Save and Add to iPhoto doesn't work.

It seems the link is broken.
You can just drag the photo to the iPhoto icon in the Dock until it gets fixed.
You could also Save the attachment to the Auto Import folder inside the iPhoto Library, but that's a bit difficult to get to unless you go in and create an alias somewhere convenient.

Why can't I attach photos from Iphoto via outlook? I just read in a blog that this is a known issue to Apple/Mac and Micrsoft is there any anticipated dates to fix this problems? and if is not getting fix why are they still selling this product for a system that does not supports it? this is kind of upsetting smh....

Because you have a problem and you need to fix it
with no information except it does not work no one can give any more help than that - remember that we are jsut users like yourself and know nothing except what you tell us - which in this case was nothing except it does not work

  • How can I manually attach images from my photo booth (imported into iPhoto) to emails? Auto function, in photo booth has my photos lying sideways?

How can I manually attach images from my photo booth to iCloud emails?
They are imported as 'events' into my iphoto library.
Auto function, in photo booth has my photos lying sideways when placed in 'mail' emails?

There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:   You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps.  If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running:
For users of 10.6 and later:  You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation  which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu.
Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and 10.5 Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
Show File:  a. On iPhoto 09 and earlier:  Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.    3.b.
b: On iPhoto 11 and later: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • Adding images to iphoto library??

i was just wondering.. when you push CTRL + MOUSE CLICK ( i dont know what to call it??) on an image on a website, it says "add image to iphoto library"... i notice that these pictures go into my iphoto program.. but where does the file save to? like if i wanted to use them later?!?! i am very confused.. please help!
and also, when i save pictures files into the iphoto folder (in the finder), they don't show up in the actual iphoto program??
    sorry for the dumb questions!!

where does the file save to? like if i wanted to use them later?
There are several ways to access a file that is inside your iPhoto Library:
    * Drag and drop - from iPhoto to your desktop or to certain applications will create a copy of the photo outside of your library
    * Control-click (or right-click) on a selected photo in your iPhoto library and choose "Show File" to see a Finder window with that file selected.
    * File > Export > File Export selected photo(s) to export a copy. This is the most flexible choice, with the option to downsize or rename the files during the export. Great for preparing files for uploading to websites or for storing on CD or DVD. Exporting always creates a copy; iPhoto retains the files inside its database.
when i save pictures files into the iphoto folder (in the finder), they don't show up in the actual iphoto program??
The concept with iPhoto is that you allow it to manage the files. You stay out of its filing system and manipulate your photos via the iPhoto application. This means that to get photos into your library, you must import them. (As Niel said, "consult" iPhoto.) Saving directly into your iPhoto Library folder does not work. Either open iPhoto and choose File > Import, or drag the photo's icon into the iPhoto window.

  • Wrong folder and files order when attaching image ...

    Hello everyone!
Long ago I noticed a bug in PC Suite: when you attach images to MMS message in PC Suite you would get a mixture of files and folder (folder, files, then again folders, again files, and - more surprising - also files from parent directory etc.) and you cannot get them normally sorted. No need to say that it is very inconvenient..
I am just wondering how much time would it take Nokia to eliminate this bug as it is still present in the latest version of PC Suite 7.1.30.9. (Phone - N82). Or maybe there is some solution?..
    Thanks.

I am using a MacBook Pro.  I simply cannot find a way to attach images adjusted in Lightroom as attachments and/or without massive degradation in quality.  I follow the LR attach email process as specified by LR, the photos appear in the email seemingly embedded and the recipients of the email cannot save the attachment.

You are welcome.  Just finished a chat session with an Apple support rep and confirmed the matte option no longer available.  Seems lots has changed since I bought my 17” 19 months back:).  They did say that there were after market screen films available from places like amazon
Have never used anything like that though.  My wife has a 2008 MBP 15” with gloss and I can say it is a nice screen finish, you just have to be careful of lighting from behind you.  All my iMacs were glossy and I did learn to compensate for the added brilliance the screen brought to the photos.  The new soft proofing feature of LR5 seems to better estimate the level of brightness of the printed work, compared to past versions of the s/ware.
In any case, in my opinion you really can’t go wrong with the apple product.  I bought my first iMac in mid 1999 and have never looked back.  I donated that machine to a pre-school in 2008, it was running OSX version 2 or 3 I think.  I did run Photoshop 7.0 on an IBM laptop for a time (windows XP).  I think I had one of the very first versions of Adobe Camera Raw on that machine.  I digress, sorry.
The chat representative did confirm that the 17” is out of production and I’m guessing Apple found the market for the big laptop just wasn’t there.  They did mention that 17” MBP’s show up as “certified refurbished” units from time to time.  Suggest you might explore that option with a local Apple store in the UK, assuming  Apple has store front operations off this continent of course.
Please feel free to contact me with further questions if you wish.
    Take care, Gordy

  • Thumbnail not displaying when attaching image to email

Suddenly my Mac is not displaying a thumbnail image when I go to attach an image to an email. I have fixed permissions, restarted and relaunched Finder, but it's still not displaying. I've also unchecked and rechecked "show icon preview" in View Option while in the Finder. Anyone know any solutions?

    Couple of ideas...
    • After you have attached the image and it is showing in the email, right-click or Control-click the displayed image. From the menu that appears, select "View as icon". Then send it as a test.
    • Once the image has been attached, fiddle with the Image Size dropmenu choices - this dropmenu is located in the lower right corner of the New Message window after adding the image.

  • Add image to iPhoto library doesn't open IPhoto screen

    OS 10.4.10
    Ibook G4
    1.5 GB Ram
    iPhoto 5.0.4
    Hi,
When I want to capture a picture, whether from the web or elsewhere, I usually press control-click and a pop down window appears with various choices, one of which is "Add image to iPhoto library". Ordinarily, what happens is that the iPhoto screen appears, says "loading photos" and I see the image I have added.
Today, I have pressed control-click, "Add image to iPhoto library", but the iPhoto window didn't open. The application opened because the tool bar (menu?) at the top was iPhoto, and said so at the far left corner.
The weird thing then was that when I did get the iPhoto screen to open (and I don't remember what I did to do that) all the pictures I thought I hadn't downloaded, were there.
I admit I have been having some weird things going on in all my programs and in the finder, such as lots of the beach ball, and the stopped watch; putting the cursor into a line of text not to select but to write, and the word and/or the line got selected. Other things too. But iPhoto has been reliable up to today. I'm pleased that I /did/ get the pictures after all, but I'd like to know why the iPhoto screen didn't appear as usual.
Thanks for any help you can give,
    Rafael

    Rafael
My concern is that your issue is not with iPhoto, but a more generalised one - especially when I read
I have been having some weird things going on in all my programs and in the finder, such as lots of the beach ball, and the stopped watch; putting the cursor into a line of text not to select but to write, and the word and/or the line got selected. Other things too.
I would have that Hard Disk checked, this could be the beginnings of a hardware issue.

  • Attached images dont show up

Attached images dont show up. One has to select message -> alternate view to preview incoming attachements; if i send attachements to windows or mobile systems they dont show up at all. Is this a snow bug? does anyone know this issue and has a solution ready?

Please create a New User Account, and as that New User launch Mail and try setting up this IMAP email account. See the following if not familiar with adding a new user account (which I am sure you are):
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/8235.html
The reason for doing this is to test the Mail app itself and the particular settings in the normal user account, and not to permanently switch to a new user account. Tell me if the behavior continues in that New User Account with Mail and these messages?

  • Import image into iPhoto

Hi, I'm trying to assign a folder action to a folder I drop random stuff into. I want to sort out images, and import them into iPhoto, then delete the file.
I'm by no means a good programmer, I've tried to put this together with help from random scripts I've found search for this. I'd like to know if anyone could tell me what's wrong with the script:
    Here it is:
on adding folder items to this_folder after receiving added_items
if the name of aFile contains {".jpg"} ¬
or the name of aFile contains {".gif"} ¬
or the name of aFile contains {".png"} ¬

or the name of aFile contains {".tiff"} ¬
or the name of aFile contains {".gif"} ¬
or the name of aFile contains {".psd"} ¬
or the name of aFile contains {".bmp"} then

import from added_items to (the first album whose name is "New images")
    delay 5
select (the first album whose name is "New images")
    end tell
tell application "Finder" to delete added_items
    end if
    end adding folder items to

property tAlbum : "New images" -- Destination 'iPhoto' album.
property gList : {"bmp", "gif", "jpg", "jpeg", "pict", "png", "psd", "tif", "tiff"} -- List of graphic file extension. Note: Removed unwanted additions.

-- When individual items' 'name extension' matches an item in 'dList' then import into 'iPhoto'. Into the first 'New images' album.
if (gList contains (name extension of (info for i))) then
tell application "iPhoto" to import from i to (first album whose name is tAlbum) -- Import 'i' into 'iPhoto's 'tAlbum'
    delay 2.0 -- Wait two (2) seconds.
    end if

  • Help-Add image to iPhoto

    Hi,
While displaying a picture or photo in Safari,
right-clicking on that picture pops up the contextual menu.
When selecting 'Add Image to iPhoto Library',
iPhoto opens but no picture is added.
is there a solution to my problem?
    thanks for any suggestions

Well given that we don't know what version of OS X you're on, what version of Safari you're using and it's the iPhoto forum and not the Safari one, the best I can suggest is that you try repair permissions with Disk Utility

  • Blank images with iPhoto 6 on OS 10.3.9 on iMac G4

Have installed iPhoto 6 on iMac G4 with OS 10.3.9. The iPhoto Library is (only) on an external (Maxtor) hard drive attached via firewire. Photos are imported automatically into this file. After iPhoto 6 installation, the image files from iPhoto Library are blank with a dotted square in each; the file name is under each blank image. I have been unable to obtain the visual images to these files (about 9000). Another MacBook laptop is able to access the files and the images in iPhoto 6. I have checked all the obvious preferences and would appreciate your help.
    Thanks, Roger

Must be in the air. The same happened to all my 7506 images in my library. They went blank, that is. And that's on my Mac Mini CD (Intel) with Tiger 10.4.7. I thought it might be a bug in the new 10.4.7 update, but it can be the same problem and not be related to the OS version. I too have my iPhoto Lib on an external hard drive. (iOmega MiniMax 250). • Image importer fails to import images under iPhoto library folder

If a JPEG image is located in the default iPhoto library directory (i.e. ~/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Originals/...), mdimporter isn't able to import all the metadata from the image. The error message (when -d2 flag is used) is "Importer indicated failure" (full output attached below). When mdls is used to list all the metadata of that image, a lot of metadata is skipped (e.g. kMDItemAcquisitionMake and kMDItemAcquisitionModel). Naturally, mdfind or Spotlight search menu item doesn't see that metadata either.
However, if the same file is moved to another location or if iPhoto library is located in some other path than ~/Pictures/iPhoto Library then mdimport succeeds and mdls lists all available metadata normally, so mdfind and Spotlight search menu item are able to find that image based on full metadata.
IMHO, this is clearly a bug (and I'll report it via bugreporter), but I would still like to hear any workarounds to this issue.

That's an indication that you may have your library set up as a referenced library:
Check the Advanced preferences in iPhoto to see if that checkbox is selected or not.  If it isn't checkec, check it and try importing agan.
To make sure all Photo Stream photos are automatically imported into your library set up iPhoto's PS preferences like this:
You should read this User Tip by Terence Devlin which is the best treatise on how to access photos (for use outside of iPhoto):  How to Access Files in iPhoto
