Adding bevel & emboss fx to text in AI

I can do this so easily in PS and ID. Where is this feature hidden in AI CS4?
Thanks in advance!

You don't seem to get this.
You open up the Illustrator Folder
You Right or Control Click on the Adobe Illustrator Application Icon.
Go to Show Packages
As for the example I showed it is only to show you that you can make a custom profile it was not to show you the exact profile that you have to figure out.
It was one I had already made for myself! Here is a little video.
This is very simple but it requires that you apply yourself to it. And please do not be so literal!

  • Bevel & Emboss effect not visible in flattened image

I created a file in .psd, with several text layers to which I applied effects (fx) such as stroke, bevel & emboss, outer glow. When I flatten the image, the outer glow and stroke remain, but the bevel & emboss effect is gone. Type is a single color without the 3 dimensional effect.
I am also not able to preserve the bevel & emboss look when saving as a jpeg or a flattened .tif or .pdf. A saved .tif or .pdf with layers shows the effect just fine, but if the pdf is opened with Acrobat instead of Photoshop, the effect is not visible.
This must be a new problem, because I found a file that I created several years ago that is a flattened .tif with the bevel & emboss effect preserved.
I tried rasterizing the layer, and the type. Tried converting to 16 bit changing mode to CMYK, and multi-channel. Everything that involved merging layers lost the bevel & emboss effect.
Any ideas on what I can do?
    Thank you for the help!
    Cindy

    Hi Trevor,
Thank you for the help. That didn't do it, either.
I did figure it out, though. My problem was that I was making a very large image (36" x 28"), and was viewing it fit to the computer screen size. What I needed to do was view actual pixels and tune up the layer style at that size.
All is well, and I sure learned a lot!

  • PS Elements 12 - Unable to Bevel & Emboss / chisel hard

    Hi,
I am using PS Elements 12  and I am unable to Bevel & Emboss / chisel hard. (I am trying to create metallic font)
    See point 12 below;
    Metal Text Effect In Photoshop
How do I complete this task on PS 12? The structure and shading dialog boxes are not in PS12 as they are in the linked explanation.
"Bevel and Emboss from the list of layer styles that appears" I cannot see this.
    Thanks,
    John

I am having the exact same problem, and I see that many others are having similar issues as well. You can see similar reports on Amazon if you look at the people giving this product 1 star. I have tried everything I've seen recommended on the Adobe websites to no avail, and I guess my only option is to try customer support, but I'm not looking forward to hours on hold. I have PSE 11, so I might just return this product and wait for PSE 13.

My current situation: I have soooo many texts on my iphone and I haven't deleted many because I need the information contained in them for future reference and for legal purposes.  I would really like to find a means and way to save them other than on the phone itself. I've done searches for various apps yet I'm not finding what I think I would need.  It appears Apple does not sync the texts between the iphone and my MacBook Pro.
Try the computer apps PhoneView (Mac) or TouchCopy (Mac & PC):

  • Illustrator Bevel & emboss

Has anyone come up with a better solution that using 3D Extrude & Bevel to simulate Photoshop's Bevel & Emboss. I cannot get the smoothness or dark edge colors as in the Photoshop example underneath(the green to dark green gradient filled bevel)
My doc raster effect setting is at 300 dpi.
I was hoping on rebuilding this in Illustrator to get a harder edge on the white outline, and just better quicker control for spot colors. I am not to worried about the bottom of that lowercase a going strange as a handle pull may fix that. .

I've been attempting to do this too but with poor results.
Reckon it's better to do it in Photoshop until they improve Illie's abominable 3D thingummy.
You can still do your white contours and drop shadow in Illie though. Make paths from the lettering selection, copy to Illie and give stroke and fill.

  • Mimic Photoshop's Bevel & Emboss layer style in Illustrator - how?

Having searched for topics akin to my question, I have only really found tips on how to achieve a bevel and emboss on type.
Here's what I'm trying to create... all using CS4...
I have an artwork, all in Illustrator so far. It has background images of people (as cut-outs), imported from Photoshop, with layer masks, saved as PSD's, to preserve transparency around the figures, which allows me to compose them over each other and other various component graphics, resident in the Illustrator document. This helps me keep all the graphical elements fully editable in the design/layout as only the people come from Photoshop.
The design has been finalised with the addition of a bevel and emboss layer effect, to the whole bounding box area of the design. I.e. the complete 900 x 700 pixel area is affected by the bevel and emboss - all the various underlying pixels of photoshop elements and Illustrator elements.
So far, I have only been able to achieve this by taking the whole thing back into Photoshop, as a single layer and then applying the Bevel&Emboss layer style effect!
Is there a way to keep this all in Illustrator?
It seems daft to have to go back into Photoshop just for the B&E effect... and a little dangerous, in case this step gets overlooked in the future!
My current thoughts involve a couple of shaped blends with a screen and multiply overlay setting for the light and shaded edges... but this is just my mind clicking!
Would love to know if this can be achieved in Illy.

Out of curiosity... and to better understand what Illustrator can do, I'd like to try both of your methods.
However, I'm a little lost with your explanation of the second method...
Can you expand on giving the "L" shaped path (that has been outlined): two fills?
Or the rectangle that has been outlined: four fills?
How do you give a shape more than one fill, gradient or otherwise?
And how do you deal with the light and dark intersections of the two grad styles (as appears in the bottom left and top right corners), did the 45° meeting point just happen or do you have to alter the geometry?
Any chance I could have the .ai file to pull apart?
Another method I found myself, after some experimenting is as follows...
Dotted white line = page/design bounds.
Give 'Shape A' a white drop shadow (Effect > Stylise > Drop shadow) with a "screen" mode and positive values for X and Y offset. This gives a light shadow below and to the right.
Make 'Shape B' a Clipping Mask for 'Shape A' - this leaves nothing but the drop shadow showing.
Give 'Shape D' a black drop shadow (Effect > Stylise > Drop shadow) with a "multiply" mode and negative values for X and Y offset. This gives a dark shadow above and to the left.
Make 'Shape C' a Clipping Mask for 'Shape D' - this leaves nothing but the drop shadow showing.
    Here's the result...
Put the new geometry (light and dark bevel shapes) on a layer at the top and, hey presto, they'll influence anything on levels below.
Only downside of this method is that the drop shadows can take a while to render, each time they are adjusted, so it's worth turning them off (or hiding their layer) while working on other areas of the design.
Also, with all of these methods, you don't get quite the same intersections at the bottom left and top right corners, as you do with the bevel and emboss layer style/effect in Photoshop... but that's being really picky!
Thanks for helping with this and hope it helps others.
Still want to work through your methods though.

  • Adding a blank slide with text

In iPhoto I have created a slideshow that works well. However, I would like to seperate some of the slides into groups by adding a blank slide with text, is this posible?
    Wrongray

Actually you need to do a Print ➙ PDF ➙ Save PDF to iPhoto. That will create a jpg image file of the document and import it into iPhoto where you can use it in the slideshow.
You can also use a 3rd party image editor that can handle text, or one of the iWork applications if you want a fancy title slide.
Some Image Editors that support layers and text:
    Photoshop Elements 8 for Mac - $79
    GraphicConverter - $45
    Rainbow Painter - $30
    Acorn - $50
    Pixelmator - $60
    Seashore - Free
    GIMP for Mac - Free

  • Extra space adding during spool data into text file

I'm using sql developer to query oracle tables. I can export data using GUI of sql developer, but I wish to use spool query to export the data. Using below query, I was able to export the data to specified location, but my final text file consist of additional spaces after each line. These additional spaces between each line is causing an error to upload the text file in different location.
Did any one face have this issue? Below is my query
    set head off
    SET FEEDBACK OFF
    SET ECHO    OFF
    SET TRIMSPOOL ON
    SET TRIMOUT ON
    spool c:\test.txt
    select cast(memberid||',12'as varchar2(20))
    from abc;
    spool off
    set head on
    set ECHO on
i'm using trimspool, and trimout, but it is not removing any blank spaces.

Sorry, I changed my export.sql to the query you provided.
SET HEAD OFF FEED OFF ECHO OFF
SET LIN 120 PAGES 0 TRIMS ON
    SPOOL c:\test.txt
    SELECT memberid || ',12' FROM abc;
    SPOOL OFF
But,the spool query is still adding additional spaces making length of each line 43 characters in final text file output.

  • Excel file to be added to Maintenance Item long text

    Hello,
Do you know by any chance whether excel file can be pasted to Maintenance item long text?
I'm not talking here about adding attachment to maintenance plan itself...
    Thanks for your clues
    Grzegorz

    Grzegorz,
You should be able to paste the same , as long as you are not concerned about the formatting. If formatting is of importance, you will have to manually format the contents as only limited formatting is supported by long text editor in SAP.

  • Resizing effects: Bevel & Emboss

    Hi All,
I've created a logo in IDCS3 using Bevel and Emboss. It's a monogram with a diamond background, two elements one each on separate layers.
When I reduce this combo, the effect is remaining the same size. In other words when I reduce it to 60%, my 1/8" bevel is still 1/8". Obviously this will not work, I need the effect to reduce proportionally.
How can I resize the image AND the effect?
(Perhaps it was stupid to design a logo in IDCS3? I thought I'd give it a try since I know InDesign better than AI or PS. I can always export it as an EPS file, right?)

    > I don't see any advantage in pre-flattening a logo.
Steve, I don't see any advantage either. BB is expressing concern over the bevel effect being rasterized. The PDF route will certainly work, my post #8 was intended as a warning that a flattened PDF will rasterize effect.
The advice should have been written as such... If you choose the PDF route for this particular quandary, use an unflattened PDF to avoid pre-rasterization of the effect.

  • Adding Glossary items from chapter text.

Adding Glossary items one by one is painful.
Any short cut you can suggest to create them?
    Thanks.

I'm preparing an iBooks version of a long French text for which I have a glossary in spreadsheet format. Unbelievably tedious to have to now enter all the items one by one. An import function would be awesome, and it would be straitforward to link definitions to target words in the text. No mind-reading required. :-)

  • Adding a border to a text

    Hello all,
anyone know if there is an easy way to add a border to an mx:component at runtime?
I've googled it but didn't find any way other than use a container, like a canvar with a border, but as those texts are build at runtime, also i need the border only when the user select (click on) a text, also ofter the "workspace area" have to be cleaned with removeallchildred, so adding and deleting everytime a canvas for this, and cannot have a reference for it would be a thing I would avoid...

I think we're speaking at cross purposes.
What is the point of a PJC/Implementation class if you cannot create a class which overrides VButton?
Whichever way I do this, I'm going to have to change every button in every form (275 forms). What I want to do is do this in the best future proof way. I think that must be using a PJC.
The main problem with making the buttons bigger is that many forms do not have the room as there are rows of buttons that run the entire length of the form window.
So, please, could someone point me in the direction of examples of button PJCs and any documentation for the classes that Oracle uses for buttons.

  • Adding user-defined number of text fields.

Okay I am having problems, obviously. I am developing a program where the user will enter X and Y values and the program will calculate the relational data. However, I can't even get a start.
First of all, the user defines the number of pairs of points they want to define. For example, they have 20 points, each with its own X and Y, so they click on 20 and then okay in the first window.
The next window will then take their answer and display X and Y text fields for as many points as they defined. However, I can't figure out any way to do this.
Feel free to run the program, the problem lies in the method setTextFields(). Help please!

  • Error when adding image in-line with text

When using some of my templates I have no problem in putting
a small graphic (a pdf icon) in-line with text. Yet with others the
insertion of the same small graphic forces a newline before and
    after the graphic.
If the text and image is placed in an editable region of the
template, but not within a table cell all is ok.
If the text and image is place within a table cell within the
editable region the problem arises. I am sure there is something I
have specified incorrectly but cannot discover what it is.
An example of where it works fine is:

An example of where it doesn't work is:

Anyhow, your problem is in the very first line of one of
    those (take your
    pick) -
    TD IMG {
    DISPLAY: block
That causes images in table cells to behave as a block tag.
    Block tags
force all adjacent content to the next line.

  • Adding a Drop Shadow to text in InDesign CS6

I have no character styles in my recent installation of Cloud InDesign CS6 and want to know how I import these effects.

Character Styles and Drop Shadow, (an object-level effect), are not related. There is nothing to import.
To apply a drop shadow to text, select (black arrow) the text frame and choose Drop Shadow from the fx menu at the bottom of the Effects panel, (Window > Effects). The Drop Shadow dialog opens where you set the parameters of the effect.
