Adding blog page + First upload - Takes a while! - Then watch it fly!

I just thought that I would share this with everyone
Having been running my site for quite a while now, without too many problems I decided that it was time to add a blog!
I follow this forum and one thing that I have noticed in the past is comments about upload time. But luckily for me this has never really been a problem, I add one page and upload it, and never has it been unreasonable (a couple of times I had to resubmit because it didn't like a picture). But I have never changed the picture, just hit Publish again! So I was really shocked last night when I published my first blog page, two failures due to pictures and on the third attempt it went through, but it did take a loooong time..
Looking at my iDisk, all of the .html files in the top level folder were modified during upload, but I stuck with it.
Today I added a second entry to my blog, and I must say, WOW! Back to the old speed that i love and know!
It seems that the first blog creation takes a while but after this all is back to normal.

Jo
Yes photos in both blogs.
I have two photos the same as you, one large (I should have resized!), one not. When viewing the site you only see the smaller one.
Yes I have RSS, and when I click the button, in safari, I get an RSS feed of my blog and the large images are there as icons, which when clicked load in safari.
I am just off to resize them now, i think 800*600 should be enough.

  • Why is my updated blog page not uploading?

    I am having a problem getting my new entry updated blog page to upload to my website. Is there a step I'm not doing and cannot find an answer in the "help" section or in here. I have done it before with ease. I have my upload ftp info all filled out correctly. I am not using a 3rd party app. Is there something I am to delete before the newer page is uploaded? Can't figure this out.

    How do you know it's not uploading?  If iWeb indicates that it has uploaded all files and it's not showing it could be as simple as clearing your browser's cache (Command+Option+E for Safari) and reloading the page.

  • When I open pdf with my Acrobat Pro 8, it takes a while, then says not responding

    When I open a pdf with Acrobat Pro 8 it takes a while, then says "not responding" then grays the page out, then finally opens.  The same thing happens if I use Acrobat 10.  It doesn't happen with anything else.  Any ideas, please?

    Do you have Acrobat 8 and X on the same machine? Do you have Reader on the same machine as well? If so which version? How much RAM? How much free hard drive space? What OS? What happens if you turn off your virus protection does things speed up?

  • The first upload takes ages! even after connected

    Hi all,
    I have noticed a little issue I have when uploading a single file to the remote server via SFTP, The first upload will take ages about 30 secs before completing. The activity icon will stop on one quarter for this time and then complete when ready. I have no issues with uploading after the first file has been done. This happens each time i connect to a new FTP account. I'm not too concerned about the time delay, I just hope that the connection is not being interceptered by a third party or somthing.
    Could it just be that DW is communicating with the server to secure it the first time around or am i paranoid?
    Using the lastest DW CC
    Win 7 Home Premium, updated!
    Thanks in advance.

    Yes, this problem is pretty irritating to say the least.
    FTP is the simplest of operations and the most fundemental. But ever since Adobe tookover Macromedia its just gone to pot.
    Already I cant use the ftp for anything with more than 50 files and have to use a REAL ftp tool like fo;eZilla to who I dont pay a huge amount each month for professional software.
    But waiting upto a minute for a 5kb file to upload is ridiculous. I might as well multitask with a third party tool. Nice one Adobe. I hope your shares are doing well.

  • After a crash, when Firefox is restored, I get many blank pages opening, in addition to the correct page. It takes a while to close them all.

    The new version of Firefox also seems to be crashing more than the old.

    Set the pref [http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.sessionstore.max_resumed_crashes browser.sessionstore.max_resumed_crashes] to 0 on the about:config page to get the about:sessionrestore page immediately with the first restart after a crash has occurred or the Task Manager was used to close Firefox.
    That will allow you to deselect the tab(s) that you do not want to reopen, but will allow to reopen the other tabs.
    See:
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Session_Restore#Restoring_a_session_after_a_crash
    To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
    If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />

  • Adding a photo gallery to a blog page?

    I see the last queries about being able to do this are from 2006.  I'm wondering if it is any easier now.  I'm creating a website for a film series project.  I used a 'blog' template so I could easily manage about 20 separate films (without having scores of pages to deal with).  Right now each of those 'blog' pages has a large number of free floating photos (shots from the film).  They take too long to load.  I'm wondering if I could create a photo gallery instead, ON the blog entry page, that would contain the pics, and allow for fast loads?
    Just wondering how one might create a photo gallery on a 'blog' entry page.
    Ben

    Having looked at your site, I would say that you layout is very artistic and would be completely ruined by using a photos template.
    DPI doesn't realy come into it as this is used for print. iWeb does have image optimization but its better to turn it off and reduce the image to the dimensions (in px) that it will appear on the web page before dragging it into the app.
    If you want to maximise the SEO and make the pages more interesting for us humans, I would add descriptive captions to the images and put them in the spaces between the staggered image layout.
    If you are comtemplating designing for mobile devices, you need to use every trick in the book to to reduce file sizes and cut content to the bone.
    I have been using responsive designs for quite a while now and learned a lot of hard lessons along the way on what works and what doesn't on mobile devices. Some more examples HERE.
    iPads are big enough for a traditional website to work on them as long as you pay attention to making the links and other user controls finger sized. I did figure out a way to make an iPhone compatible site using iWeb if you are interested...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/iWeb/Mobile-iWeb.html
    I must admit that I detest Wordpress although there are some responsive desgns available now. I did a test with one of the free ones but its a total pain and there doesn't appear to be any plugins for HTML5, responsive media players. I had to figure this out all on my own. If you click the Blog button on this page you should get there.

  • Blog Page Not visible after upload

    I just added a blog page to my existing site. The file shows up in remote server but is not visible when I go to my website.  Any suggestions?

    Test your site by publishing to a local folder...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/iWeb/Publish-Website.html
    ... and launch it in the browser by double clicking the index.html file.
    If this version works OK then it means that you have not uploaded all the required files to the server or they are not in the correct place.
    Do an Option-Command-A in Safari to see if all the files are present in the Activity window.

  • Getting Runtime error while adding Second page in Smartform.

    I added 2 pages in smartform. When I worked with single page. smartform working properly. Now I added one more page(i.e Second page) I am getting runtime error.  ("The current ABAP/4 program encountered an unexpected
    situation".   A RAISE statement in the program "SAPLSTXBC" raised the exception
    condition "ERROR".)   When I debug this standard program Something width problem getting on line number 110. Both width not matched so program raising exception. Can you please tell me to solve this problem what changes will I do in my smartform?

    Please let me know the details of each page.
    Error can occur in these cases.
    1) You copied the first page to second. and later you change the width of second page
    2) You created the second page and there is template in second page. each column width is not matching with the total width of the template.
    3) windows width is greater than the page width
    Please have a look.

  • While runing an OAF page , it opens up the Application Login Page first

    Hi,
    Whenever i run any simple OAF page from my machine it always opens up the login page and once I login by giving the application username /password , it then shows my OAF page.
    I have verified the run time connection and the user name password and the responsibilities are all correct.
    Please help me in getting rid of the login page everytime I am getting while running the page

    Did you copy the dbc file to local directory? Are you able to connect database from JDeveloper? Also, make sure that, the responsibility is of type 'Self-Service'. There could be something else, I'm just trying to troubleshoot.

  • More secure public blog pages

    I have got Snow Leopard Server up and hosting several simple public sites without problems. One of my sites has a blog for public view.
    Previously, this site was hosted elsewhere and the blog ran on MovableType. In MT, Blogger, etc. the url for the public page of the blog is different from the url which is used to edit the blog. Thus, the edit/administration log in page can be configured to use SSL or locked down to reduce attempts at hacking the site, while the public views are simple http. Now that it is migrating to SLS 10.6.4, the public blog page has the log in linking to editing/posting functions.
    There are actually two questions. Is there a way to make this more secure? And, is there an easy way to map the blog to another url such as "blog.mysite.net" ? I have played around with creating a duplicate blog page located in the web root where appropriate <div>'s and parts of the native blog page "www.mysite.net/users/username" are copied and certain links are removed. It's a bit flaky. For example, it you protect the blog using a realm to prevent access then include a <div> from the blog page on a page outside the realm, it may not display. It also takes away log in for posting comments.
    How have you solved similar issues?

    The simple idea is to clean up URLs. I wanted to get a variety of simple URLs to point to my blog. For example, "www.yoursite.url/blog" and "blog.yoursite.url" would all call up "www.yoursite.url/users/blogger/weblog" in the browser.
    In this set of instructions, there is only one blog on the site created by the user "blogger":
    The first (getting "www.yoursite.url/blog" to call "www.yoursite.url/users/blogger/weblog") is simple. In Server Admin -> Sites -> yoursite.net (or whatever) under the Aliases tab, click the "+" under "URL Aliases and Redirects" and create a new Redirect where the pattern is "/blog" and the path is "http://www.yoursite.url/users/blogger/weblog" and click OK. Now Save and restart the Web service.
    The other was a bit more challenging but mod_rewrite comes to the rescue.
    First, you need to set up the DNS servers.
    1. Log in to the DNS control panel of your registrar, ISP, or DNS provider (everydns, dyndns, etc.) and add an A record for blog.mysite.net pointing to the public IP address of your firewall/etc. on which your Snow Leopard Server answers http requests.
    2. In Server Admin, under DNS -> Primary zone -> Add New Record -> Alias which is "blog.yoursite.url" pointing to the IP address or name of your SLS.
    Next, you create a web server alias and then rewrite http request coming in to that alias. The steps are:
    1. Stop Web service in Server Admin.
    2. In Server Admin -> Settings -> Modules, make sure rewrite_module is checked.
    3. In Server Admin -> Web -> Sites, select your "www.yoursite.url" which hosts the blog and under the Aliases tab, click the "+" under the Web Server Aliases field and create the alias "blog.yoursite.url"
    4. Now, in Server Admin -> Web -> Sites, select your "www.yoursite.url" which hosts the blog and under the Options tab, enable "Allow All Overrides" and save.
    5. Next is a bit of rewrite configuration. You need to rewrite http request for "blog.yoursite.url" to "www.yoursite.url/users/blogger." Fire up your terminal and "sudo nano -w /etc/apache2/sites/0005your.ip.add.ress_portwww.yoursite.url.conf, find the <Directory> section which looks like this:
    <Directory "/Library/WebServer/Sites/yoursite.url">
    <IfModule mod_dav.c>
    DAV Off
    </IfModule>
    Options All -Includes -ExecCGI -Indexes +MultiViews
    AllowOverride All
    </Directory>
    Edit this to:
    <Directory "/Library/WebServer/Sites/yoursite.url">
    <IfModule mod_dav.c>
    DAV Off
    </IfModule>
    Options All -Includes -ExecCGI -Indexes +MultiViews +FollowSymlinks
    AllowOverride All
    <IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
    RewriteEngine on
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www.* [NC]
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^blog\. [NC]
    RewriteRule ^(.*) http://www.yoursite.url/users/blogger/weblog [R,NC,L]
    </IfModule>
    </Directory>
    Even though mod_rewrite.c is loaded, rewriting will not occur unless the directives "Options +FollowSymlinks" and "RewriteEngine on" are in the conf file or .htaccess file. The first RewriteCond tells the rewrite engine not to attempt rewriting HTTP_HOST requests which start with www. The second RewriteCond checks if the HTTP_POST field begins with "blog." The RewriteRule takes the requested url and rewrites it. Although the url description "^(.*)" matches all urls, we know any http request must be for "www.yoursite.url" or "blog.yoursite.url" because those are the only addresses to which this particular virtual host responds. We excluded "www" so ....]
    6. Now restart the Web service and check it out.

  • Show recently added blog items in a webpart with 1 blog item showing all the time.

    I need to pull 3 blog items from blog site and display it in the another SharePoint 2013 site collection home page so I have added content search webpart and in Select a query i choosed recently changed items(system) and in restrict by app i had choosen
    specify a url and pointed the url to the blog post list which it should pull.
    so now it is pulling all the recently changed list items in the list. which is good. but i want to show up 1 blog item on the webpart which should not change and rest(other 2) of the blog items should change.
    how can i do this. any ideas please.
    Thanks
    M.M

    So essentially you want a "featured" blog post to always be displayed first, followed by recent blog posts underneath?
    Yeah you would need to add a new column to your blog, perhaps the easiest way to do this is add the Status column "Add from existing site columns" to your Posts list.  Then you can follow the instructions on this blog post:
    http://yalla.itgroove.net/2013/02/roll-up-sharepoint-2013-tasks-with-content-search-web-part/
    To add the Status field as a crawled property (step 13 from article above).  Then you can sort by Status (I would change the status options to "Featured Post" and "Non-Featured Post") Descending, and then Sort by LastModifiedTime Descending.  That
    will first display all Featured Posts, then display the blog posts by last modified time underneath.
    Thanks.

  • Update iWeb Blog page from iPhone

    I'm brand new to the whole blog thing so please be patient here. I put a test blog page on my iWeb site and was wondering if there is a way to add to that blog on the go from my iPhone? I'd like to take pics of the days events and upload them to the blog along with some text. Is this possible?

    The iPhone can't make new blog posts on iWeb-generated blogs, because it doesn't run iWeb. However, if you set the blog to accept comments, you can post a comment from your on blog from your phone; that's how I do updates when I'm in the field.
    iWeb has an option where you can allow attachments to be included in comments. I never tried this with my iPhone, so I don't know if that would work or not (I'm not sure how you would locate the attachment on the phone). Of course, if you select this option, ANYONE can post attachments to your blog comments, which isn't necessarily a good thing unless your site is password-protected.
    Of course, this only applied before Apple screwed everything up with the MobileMe transition; currently, no blog comments are working at all, and Apple has given no estimate of when it will be fixed.

  • Photos on front blog page

    Hi. I know that in my blog, I have a choice in the inspector as to how many lines show up on the main blog page -- none or all of them. But what I can't figure out is it I can also show the photo(s) in the entry(ies) without making a person click on "read more."
    If you look at sites at blogger.com, you can just see everything without ever clicking, unless of course if you want to leave a comment.
    Just wondering if this functionality is somewhere and I missed it.
    Thanks a lot.

    I'm a beginner and have a photo on front blog page but nothing added to either 'entries' or 'archive'. Can't I just publish a blog page plus several photo pages without having to create 'entries' and 'archive' pages? Trying to make things simple for my first Web page. (Not using .Mac)

  • Can't find heading on blog page to delete...

    Hello, working on a web page for my church. I used one of the "my travel" blog templates for our Pastor's Blog site. However, when you click the RSS button it takes you to the page to subscribe. At the top of that page is still says, "My Travels" I can't find it in IWeb to Delete. Any Suggestions? Here is the link.
    feed://www.nwbcardmore.com/NWBC/Pastors_Page/rss.xml

    The only place I see "my travels" is in a text box on the main blog page in Iweb to the right of the first photo in the template.
