Adding blur and drop shadows to clip cs4 Mac

Hi,
A while ago I saw a vid where they showed how to (to the best of my recollection) take a car out of a clip recolor the background and then replace the car w added effects, I believe it's in Ppr.
Can anyone direct me to this vid or, one that can show me how to figure out this type of process.

I'm going to give it a try, take it easy on the chomping as what I'm finding is that cs5 is sooooo ssllooowww. I tried to open and convert to frames in p/s
matter of fact there ended up being about 400 of them! Man, I could've thrown a burger on the pit and eaten it in the time 5 took whereas 4 wouln't
have given me time to flatten the burger let alone thrown it on the pit. Sorry to say mate I have found most of it slow and did not take as much
advantage of it as I would have liked to. But I will give this rotobrush a run around the block and see what I can get out of it.
By the way I'm sure they will iron out the problems with speed they always do, it's just like buying a new mac, It takes time to work out the intial ups
and downs but, when one does it flies.

Why don't transparencies and drop shadows show right in pdf on Firefox ?

Hello,
We have display problems with transparencies and drop shadows in pdf that we upload on our website.
When these pdf are opened on Firefox the areas where we have used transparencies, drop shadows and color gradation end up in grey boxes.
This is a real problem for our society which only operates on the web.
You can find below some links to pdf that are particularly affected by this display issue :

(grey boxes have appeared on the header, some pictures that were a bit transparent are missing on page 2)

Viewed on different web browsers these pdf show fine.
The issue is that all our website and our turnover are based on these pdf documentations, which could be viewed by a customer using Firefox.
We are aware that changing our pdf viewer would be the solution but only for our computers and we cannot make all our customers change their pdf viewer.
Are you aware of this problem ?
Do you have a solution ?

Hey I found out from the developers that this is actually fixed in version 29 via Bug 965861. Try the pdf viewer in the next version of Firefox, this will take care of that gradient. :-) Cheers.

Stroke and drop shadows on thumbnails

Hi there. I'm trying to add a stroke and drop shadow to my lightbox thumbnails. While both appear perfectly in design mode, as soon as I view the site in preview or in a browser they both disappear. Do you know what the problem might be? Many thanks! David

Hi David,
I tested this with Composition Lightbox as well as with Slideshow Lightbox and stroke and shadow worked fine in both the cases. I applied the effects on the Normal State. Can you please confirm on what widget have you used and on what state have you applied the effects? Also, do you have a URL for us to take a look at?

How can a transparent stage have round corners and drop shadow?

This is actually 2 questions:
1- How can a transparent stage have background corners?
I've tried doing this:
.rootPane
-fx-border-radius: 4 4 4 4;
-fx-background-radius: 4 4 4 4;
-fx-border-color: gray;
-fx-border-style: solid;
-fx-border-width: 1;
-fx-background-image: url("resource/clean_textile.png");
And make the root of the scene have the ".rootPane" style class.
But it sometimes shows some visual artifacts on the corners. Am I doing it wrong? is this a bug?
2 - How can a transparent stage show the windows 7 drop shadow effect of windows? Is it possible?

How can a transparent stage have background corners?Yes, this is a possible.
There are a few of tricks and you need all of them:
1. StageStyle must be transparent:
new Stage(StageStyle.TRANSPARENT);2. Scene fill must also be transparent:
new Scene(root, Color.TRANSPARENT);3. Color the background:
-fx-background-color: derive(cadetblue, -20%); 4. You need to apply the dropshadow effect to the background region.
-fx-effect: dropshadow(three-pass-box, derive(cadetblue, -20%), 10, 0, 4, 4); 5. You need to inset the background in the region which has the dropshadow so that the shadow will be visible within the Stage and not clipped out of the stage bounds.
-fx-background-insets: 12; 6. You need to apply a radius to the background to round it's corners.

Thin white line around black .ai logo and drop shadow question

There's a very thin white line all around a black .ai logo I made when placed on a color background. It shows up in printing and acrobat (PDF % compatibility) too. Also, is there any way to get a transparent drop shadow (no white boxes) when saving as eps.

Is the logo rasterized in Illustrator? It sounds like something was antialiased against a white background.

No. EPS does not support transparency. If an area is not fully transparent (because nothing is drawn there) then it is fully opaque. PDF and AI support transparency.

Problems with pdf and drop shadow/opacity in quark

I have created a piece of artwork in Quark 7.5 which consists of a round picture box (which has a drop shadow). The picture box is positioned so that it slightly overlaps 2 large circles of colour. These 2 circles overlap each other also - the bottom one is a solid pantone colour, the top one is a pantone colour but with an opacity of 75%.
After creating a high quality pdf file, the pdf does not display (or print) these circles/picture box correctly. It looks as if there is a slightly transparent square picture box just below the round picture box but on top of the coloured circles. This only appears to happen when the round picture boxes are positioned on top of the circle which has the 75% opacity.
I can't figure out how to fix it. I tried making the coloured circles cmyk instead of pantone but that didn't fix it. I've also tried increasing the resolution of the drop shadows in the pdf settings but that didn't work either.
I don't know if this is a Quark issue or an Acrobat issue. I tried changing settings in both applications but can't fix it. Can anyone help?
(I've attached a medium res version so you can see what is happening - it's the 3 round picture boxes at the bottom).

I used the pdf facility in Quark (export as PDF) but I also tried creating a .ps file through the print facility in Quark and then distilling the file in Adobe Distiller and this didn't work either.

Adding noise and grain to video clips is pixelating other clips when exporting

I've been adding some of the digital noise effect to certain video clips in my timeline. It looks fine when I playback in Premiere Pro but for some reason when I export to H.264, 1080p it pixelates the clips before and after the ones with the effect on them. Any idea what I can do to stop this happening?

OK, so, sorry to go over this again but if you
1. Put an in and out marker in the timeline a few seconds before the effected clip and a few seconds after the effected clip
2. Export this small section as, say, ProRes
3. Re-import the ProRes clip you just made
4. Use this prores clip to replace the weirdo effected clip on your timeline (trimming off the few seconds either end which were there just so you got your whole clip frame to frame)
5. Export the whole thing again
The clips before and after the replaced clip are still pixelating?
Also, what is the plug-in? Is it the Red Giant one?

Using Transparency and Drop Shadows

I'm applying a drop shadow to text in different text boxes and on different curvy paths and also to various vector objects. When I turned on the flattener preview, I noticed that lots of text and vectors were being rasterized. I know the common solution is to bring the text and vector objects to the front, however, no matter what I do, one text's shadow or some other vector objects's shadow inevitably effects one other. The only solution I came up with was to copy all the items that have drop shadows, then paste in place on top of the same objects. I then removed the drop shadow from the top layer of items and left the drop shadow on the bottom layer of objects. Is this the best way to do this?

if you mean using actual layers to manage your documents then this is a good workflow to adopt.
Essentialy layers holding text should always be above those holding images/objects that contain transparany. This can help reduce instances where some of your text may be getting flattened when it interacts with the transparency.
Also when exporting to PDF ensure the 'high resolution' transparency flattener preset is selected to ensure consistent output.

Manually adding drag and drop

Hi guys , obviously Im a newbie to flex...what I am doing is
putting together a multipl file uploader so far so good but I now
need to add drag and drop functionality and just stuck!
1. so I am listening for drag enter and once a file or
file(s) have been dragged over my target(datagrid) I will like to
check the file type to ensure its of *.pdf else show and alert.
2. I need to listen for drag drop or mouseUp and update my
datagrid accordingly even extracting the file details from at this

The runtime understands what types are compatible with what other types. As a similar example that doesn't involve casting, you can assign a Button instance to a variable of type DisplayObject, but you can't assign it to a varible of type int. I believe it throws a TypeError when there is a type compatibility. But I don't think introspection is the right term for what is going on; I'd call it strict runtime type awareness.

Adding drag and drop functionality to a hbox with a repeater?

I've been searching on how to add drag and drop functionality
to an hbox. You're probably thinking "just use a tilelist", and
that's what i'm currently using, but the tilelist cannot align
items to the center, which is crucial in my application (if you
need me to explain further i will, but i don't think it's relevant
here).
So i need drag and drop on an Hbox. The repeater is necessary
because the hbox may need to be populated with items initially,
which can later be dragged and dropped either in itself (to
re-arrange items) or into another hbox of this kind. For the past
few hours I've been trying to find anything that can even hint at
this type of functionality (i've been searching and experimenting
for hours). If anyone can point me in the right direction, i'd

Masking unwanted sides to drop shadow effect (AI CS2 Mac)

I've got a problem with drop shadows in CS2 (Mac). Can anyone help? I've applied an offset of zero and a blur of 1mm which works fine but the object is at the corner of the artboard and the shadow spills over onto the pasteboard and leaves a fine line showing when imported into InDesign (at the edge of the graphics frame).
Can you tell me how I can loose the shadow on the two sides I don't want it? I've tried creating a clipping mask behind to paste it into but I loose the solid area of the object (with the shadow) that I'm pasting in to the mask.

I don't see a problem. A clipping mask should work, but perhaps I might not be following the description in your second paragraph correctly.
Could you clarify, preferably by providing a screenshot that illustrates what you get and what you want to achieve?

Can't do any drag and drop in Firefox 12 for Mac OS X 10.6.8

I am running Firefox 12 in Mac OS X 10.6.8, and have the following strange problem.
When I try to customise the toolbar, I am unable to drag and drop any buttons onto it! I am see the hand icon, but when I click and drag an item nothing happens.
Even stranger is the fact that I also can't drag and drop images from Firefox into Finder!
Are these two problems related somehow?

I have read that there are about 5 or 6 other add-ons that also inhibit Drag and Drop functionality, not just the Torbutton add-on. The list is somewhere in the main Firefox support section (but it's tough to find the answer there twice).

Illustrator extension - Drag and drop is not working on mac

During testing my extension on Mac,I noticed that drag and drop doesn't work as expected. Therefore I have created a new simple extension with two lists.

This sample works fine on Windows and on Mac as AIR app but not working as extension on Illustrator( Not able to drag and drop between list on mac).
Any help or workaround would be appreciated.
