Adding Bookmark messes up all bookmarks

I am putting translator's endnotes in the text block of a minimally modified 'Contemporary-Section Text' layout section. I created five bookmarks (named Proleg-T.01, Proleg-T.02,…) in that section with the idea of hyperlinking to them from a footnote reference in the main text sections. When I add a bookmark in any section other than this one, all bookmarks stop working --when I click on any of the previously made bookmarks in Inspector the highlight doesn't even 'hold', and goes back to whatever was highlighted before (the newly created bookmark, the creation of which destroyed everything, and which doesn't work either).
This happens when editing both in landscape and portrait, and when the new bookmark is created in the textblock of any other section using any layout. I can keep adding new working bookmarks in the same 'endnotes' section. Any idea what may be going on?
Thanks very much.

Oh well after 1 hour + of restoring to backups and trying stuff I realise that clicking on the Inspector panel list will not navigate to a bookmark in a different section --one needs to manually go to the destination section, and at that point clicking on the list will work. So it is not that the bookmarks are messed up, but that the Bookmarks list in Inspector works in a rather unexpected way.

  • What kind of dork renamed 'Organize Bookmarks' to 'Show All Bookmarks'?

Seriously, who is the fool that decided to rename 'Organize Bookmarks' to 'Show All Bookmarks'? This is confusing and not the proper wording for that function. Organizing is different from showing. I recommend the project managers get some brains. How can someone be so dumb to change something that was clear and well before?

The change was done to get the text in line with the Show All History menu entry. Both open the same Library window to manage content stored in the places.sqlite database file. Actually the Library window has a Views menu that doesn't make changes, but allows to see (sort) bookmarks and history in a different sorting order.

  • When NOT using icons on the toolbar, side-bar drop-down for additional toolbar items has disappeared with Firefox 4 and accessing these items requires clicking 'Bookmarks', then 'Show all bookmarks' then 'Toolbar'--ugh, what a pain.

On older versions of Firefox, Toolbar links ran across the top of my screen, with a drop-down to the far right which would show additional Toolbar items for which there was not room on the screen.
With Firefox 4, if I'm not using icons (text only), the dedicated Toolbar drop-down is gone and I have to first click 'Bookmarks' to the right of the Toolbar ribbon, then 'Show All Bookmarks', then 'Toolbar' in order to access my additional Toolbar links. Could anyone have made it any harder?
Why doesn't someone just restore the drop-down at the far right of the Toolbar so that all of my Toolbar items (which I prefer to keep separately from the regular Bookmark items, else I would have just plain bookmarked those items in the first place) are readily accessible?

You see the orange (on Linux gray) Firefox button if the Menu Bar is hidden (View > Toolbars > Customize or right-click a toolbar).<br />
If you need to access the hidden Menu bar then press F10 or hold down the Alt key to make the Menu Bar appear temporarily.<br />
You only see the Bookmarks menu button if the Menu bar is hidden.

  • Double click Bookmarks button to open the Library window directly ("Show All Bookmarks" function)

I have a number of folders in bookmarks, and I edit it frequently by clicking "Show All Bookmarks" and opening a Library.
Previously, after clicking Bookmarks button, "Show All Bookmarks" appeared on top of the list, and now it's at the bottom.

  • Hide All Bookmarks

When I click on "Hide All Bookmarks", nothing happens. I assume that it is supposed to do as it says (and hide the bookmarks view). Any tips on how to solve this? Is it a known bug?
    Running Safari 3.1.1 (525.17)
    Arjen

    Yes that is correct.
Click Bookmarks, click Show All Bookmarks. All Bookmarks are displayed.
Click Bookmarks, click Hide All Bookmarks. It should go back to the web page you were vieweing before you showed all.
That's how it's should work anyway.

  • Windows 7 with Firefox vers 24.0. Every website I go to has bookmark already. Edit Bookmark shows it nothing close to page title and the folder it lists.

The star I would usually double click to add a bookmark is already there with some wrong title that has nothing to do with title of website at top right. It also is in various folders I have.
Only way to fix each one is to delete title listed and type in correct title of page and select folder I want. Before recent auto update to version 24.0 my bookmarks worked like usually do-supposed to-no auto bookmark until I tell it I want to make it a bookmark.
I went to help and tried what it said about going to History and clearing all my history-all boxed checked. I then restarted my computer and no change.

I followed your suggestions backing up a copy of my Bookmarks from Show All Bookmarks. Then I deleted the suggested Firefox files and restarted my computer. I imported my Firefox backed up bookmarks and Firefox was once again working like it was supposed to.
Thank you for all your help.

  • Firefox bookmarks to replace Safari bookmarks, complete instructions

For all of us dummies out there : ]
Here are the complete instructions to get your Firefox bookmarks into Safari, and to get them to replace the ones you have in Safari. This is useful for people who, on their computer, do not use Safari, and only use Firefox, but need their Firefox bookmarks easily accessible on their phone (without having to use the Firefox Home App). This will allow your Firefox bookmarks to get synched onto your iPhone's Safari App. Only thing I haven't figured out is how to automatically make this happen, so Safari bookmarks continuously update with changes in the Firefox bookmarks.
Here's a link on how to export Firefox bookmarks to your computer, and then import them into Safari:
    http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/export-bookmarks-safari
The only thing missing in that link is: How do we now get our bookmarks from Firefox to replace the ones in Safari? We want our Bookmark Toolbar in Safari to be the same as the one in Firefox, and the Bookmarks Menu as well.
The answer is straightforward, a slight pain in the butt, but simple. In Safari:
    1. click Bookmarks/Show All Bookmarks
    2. In Sidebar in Safari window, click on Bookmarks Bar. All bookmarks in Bookmarks Bar will be listed to the right.
    3. Select all of the bookmarks shown, and then hit Delete on your keyboard.
    4. In Sidebar, click on Bookmarks Menu. All Bookmark Menu items will be listed to the right.
    5. Select all of the bookmarks shown, then Delete.
    6. In Sidebar, click on your just-imported-from-Firefox imported bookmarks. It should be listed as "Import" with a date.
    7. In window, find Bookmark Toolbar (you will need to scroll way down the list past regular bookmarks), and click its arrow to open the list of bookmarks below it.
    8. Select all those bookmarks below the arrow, and drag them into the sidebar, and drop them on top of the Bookmarks Bar item.
    9. In Sidebar, again click on your just-imported-from-Firefox imported bookmarks.
    10. In window, you will see all the other bookmarks.
    11. Select all those bookmarks, and drag them into the sidebar, on top of the Bookmarks Bar item.
Now all your Firefox bookmarks are in Safari in the same places. When you sync your iPhone, all those bookmarks will be available in the Safari App.

  • Awesome Bar no longer searches all bookmarks after update to FF 34

I just upgraded to FF34 and having a horrible time getting everything functioning right again. My current problem is that when I type a name in the Awesome Bar, it will not look at ALL my bookmarks. It does show some, but not all. For example if I type Dev, it properly shows my bookmark for Dev Guru. If I type fire, it shows nothing even though I have 4-5 bookmarks related to firefox. If I type the letter "s" I can see 5 related bookmarks but not the proper one. I have location bar in the settings set to History and Bookmarks. I have not found any solutions on the web and am at a loss as to what to try next. I have even deleted the bookmark and added it back. Does not seem to help.

I ended up finding my own solution. For anyone who is interested here is what I had to do to fix this problem:
Steps to solve the problem of the Awesomebar (Location Bar) not finding some bookmarks:
Press Cntrl+Shift+B to show all bookmarks
    Click on Import and Backup
    Click on Backup
    Save the file
    Close Firefox
Navigate to the Mozilla Profile Director (On a Windows 7 Box it is most likely in C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\YouFireFoxProfileName)
Make a copy of the bookmarkbackups folder, places.sqlite, places.sqlite-shm, and places.sqlite-wal
Delete all the files in the bookmarkbackups folder
    Delete places.sqlite, places.sqlite-shm, and places.sqlite-wal
    Open Firefox
Press Cntrl+Shift+B to show all bookmarks
    Click on Import and Backup
Click on Restore >> Choose File
    Select the file from earlier

  • How to display newly added bookmarks on top of the list in Unsorted Bookmarks? (not in Bookmark Manager window)

I have hundreds of bookmarks. The Bookmarks Toolbar is filled.I made a shortcut of the "Unsorted Bookmarks" folder and placed it in on the Bookmarks Toolbar.Whenever I click the star to add a bookmark, it adds one to the real Unsorted Bookmarks, which add a copy of that bookmarks into the folder named Unsorted Bookmarks which is on the Bookmarks Toolbar.
When I click on the Unsorted Bookmarks(both original and shortcut folder), it displays the oldest bookmarks on top, which honestly makes no sense to me because the user has to scroll a lot to get to the newest bookmarks, which are more likely to be used than the old ones that have been sitting there for a long time.Is there any way to sort the bookmarks by a reversed chronological order and display newly added ones on top of the list ?
I am aware that you can do this in Bookmarks Manager window(called Library?) but it requires too many steps and it's time consuming and not easy to use in general.I'd rather click on the folder on Bookmarks Toolbar to open my bookmarks, but they show old ones on top.
    Thanks !

Hmm, you might need to create a "smart folder" for this. You may have noticed some blue folders in your bookmarks such as "Most Visited" and "Recently Bookmarked". These show the results of a query run against your bookmarks or history (Places database) and you can create your own queries with a little elbow grease.
So one possibility might be to create a custom "Recently Bookmarked" folder that extends beyond the current limit of 10. I gave the steps for creating a 20-item version of this folder in this post: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/934205#answer-358492
That example searched ''all'' bookmarks and not specifically Unsorted Bookmarks. To create a new "smart folder" for Unsorted Bookmarks, you could try this:
    (1) Select and copy the following places search query:
    place:queryType=1&folder=UNFILED_BOOKMARKS&folder=UNFILED_BOOKMARKS&sort=12&excludeQueries=1
''(For definitions of those parameters and many more, see: [https://developer.mozilla.org/docs/Places_query_URIs])''
    (2) Expand the Bookmarks Menu (e.g., from the toolbar button or menu bar, or in the sidebar or Library dialog), right-click the first bookmark, and choose New Bookmark
    (3) In the Location field, paste the query (Ctrl+v or right-click > Paste)
    (4) In the Name, enter something like Unsorted Desc (for descending order) or the name of your choice. Then click Add.
    (5) Drag the new bookmark to the desired location on the Bookmarks Toolbar. If you are using the menu, click and drag and hover over Bookmarks Toolbar until it expands. Once it is on the toolbar, you can easily move it again to the desired location. During the first move, Firefox will recognize it as a query-type bookmark so that is why I have you create it on the menu and move it to the toolbar.
