Adding Chapter markers inside dvdPro

Hi
I have a project loaded into DVD Studio Pro.
In DvD Studio Pro, I added chapter markers to my project.
Would it be possible for me to add a working chapter index to the menu now?
I know I should have added the markers while still in FCP.
Thanks for any advise
Niel

Create a menu page for the chapters and link to the chapters from that page. You'd also need to link the menu chapter page on the main menu page.

  • Adding chapter markers in DVDSP

I am currently having a problem with my project. One of my tracks was revised by the client. I edited a new sequence in Final Cut Pro with chapter markers at the begenning of every spot. When I saved it as an mpeg-2 I named it the same as it was named previously and replaced it with the new sequence. Usually this would automatically update within my DVDSP project and all would be good. For some reason this time it has updated in DVDSP but it will not recognize chapter marker 1. In order to work around this I am trying to add a chapter marker inside DVDSP but cannot figure out how. I looked at the manual and as of right now can't find that info. Thanks in advance for your time and your input.

    Hi PMO
If you line the playhead up to where you want your marker and press the 'm' key you get a marker in the timeline. IMHO if you're changing an asset in a timeline and giving it new marker positions you're better of creating a new track. Because you can add chapter markers in DVDSP, it will not always recognise new preassigned markers if there's already markers in the timeline.
    Good luck

  • Auto Adding Chapter Markers in FCPX?

Is there a way to easily add chapter markers per edit in FCPX?  I have a timeline of over 100 clips and I'd like to add a chapter marker at the very beginning of each new clip.
I've seen this question asked on the internet a few times but they were all from posts dating at least 2 years old...
    Any help is appreciated!

I think you will probably have to do it manually.
You can speed it up a bit by hitting the down arrow to jump to the next clip, press M, double-click the standard marker that appears and select "Chapter" from the contextual menu.
Alternatively you could press M twice which will open a window allowing you to click on the third icon which is a chapter marker.

  • Trouble adding chapter markers

I created an hour long dvd with chapter markers.  When I Share to DVD, my markers don't all publish.  Does anyone know why?

  • Adding chapter markers in a made for ipod video?

    Hi
Can one add chapter markers to a video compressed for ipod viewing, so as viewers can skip to different sections of the movie?

Yes, you can add chapters to any supported video through QuickTime Pro. However, I am not sure that these can be noticed within iPod. To add chapters in QuickTime Pro 7.0, see this article: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/tutorials/chaptertracks.html

  • For what reasons would you not be able to add chapter markers to a project?

New to this...I will try to give you the detail you need to answer without giving you a long story. I am actually asking this question because I have a video production company working on my wedding video..they are using iDVD to burn but I am not sure if they are using iMovie to compose or some other software. Anyways, this is actually the second time around with my video. They produced it 18 months ago and it looked beautiful! The only problem was that we realized 10 months later that there was an audio problem with the wedding ceremony. In the meantime, the person who originally worked on the project left with the software and the equipment. So, they had to start over and have been working on the redo since February and I think I am the iDVD "test rat". They are telling me now that it is not possible to add chapter markers to the project in iDVD. And this is part of the e-mail they sent me with a supposed explanation:
+I took your corrected DVD to the Apple Store and the training expert explained to me that this program only shows each chapter at a time and the program will automatically go back to the menu after each chapter+.
From what I have been reading on the discussion boards, the only reason that adding chapter markers would not be possible is that they are using iDVD '08 (since they purchased the software in February, I don't think this is possible) or that they did not use the original wedding tape to create the new DVD project..they used the already broken down video segments from the 1st DVD and just put them in menu folders??? Any help or explanation would be GREATLY appreciated! If there is any additional information you might need, I will do my best to provide it.
    THANKS!!!

    Hi cooperjb,
Welcome to apple discussions. iDvd is consumer authoring software. DVDSP on the other hand is part of FCS 2 / apple's top of the line / professional DVD authoring software. There are some significant (huge) differences between the two apps which I won't go into great details here since I could likely fill a text book on this very subject. Instead you can search this forum/s for a few prior posts as well as apple's knowledge base (KB) for further details on exactly why pros prefer to use Apple's FCS 2 as opposed to the i-Apps.
As much as one may want iDvd to act and perform exactly like Professional Software, It is not. It's intended for consumers (and prosumers).
On a less serious note, this one's always good for a laugh:

  • Chapter markers to idvd NOT WORKING

    I created chapter markers...
    I sent movie to iDVD...
There is no sub-menu with the chapters.
I checked preferences and I have it all set up correctly (I assume).
Any ideas? I really need to get this done for my son's class.
    Thanks.

According to this article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iMovie/9.0/en/mov3ac6b3ff.html  I should be able to export to iDVD and the chapter markers should be there...
If you’ve added chapter markers to your project, you can simply burn the project to a DVD or export it, and the chapter markers will be recognized by iDVD, iTunes, iPod, iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Front Row, QuickTime Player, DVD Player, and most standard DVD players.
Click to select the project in the Project Library, or open the project, and then do one of the tasks listed below. The Share menu appears in a light gray bar across the top of your computer screen.
To share your movie with iDVD, choose Share > iDVD, and then burn it to a DVD.
To share your movie with iTunes, choose Share > iTunes.
To send your movie to the Media Browser, choose Share > Media Browser. When you send a project to the Media Browser, it will be available for use in iDVD the next time you open iDVD, which recognizes chapter markers.
To export your movie as a movie file, choose Share > Export Movie.Keep in mind that movies exported in the tiny format don’t include chapter markers.
To export your movie using advanced QuickTime options, choose Share > “Export using QuickTime.”

    This has been fixed...
Turns out I was adding COMMENTS and not CHAPTERS!

  • Chapter Markers do not show on iDVD

I edited a movie in FCE, DV 16:9 aspect ratio. added chapter markers, but in order to preserve the 16:9 aspect ratio when I exported the project to Quick Time I encoded it as HD 16:9, It worked preserving the aspect ratio but in the process I lost the chapter markers. When I tried the converted project in iDVD the chapter markers were gone. Anybody out there has a solution for this issue?

You might try importing the QT into iMovie and then sharing to iDVD after making making sure the chapters are marked. But if that doesn't help then you may wish to read these:

  • Converting NTSC to PAL with chapter markers

    Hey guys,
I have just a quick question.
I am making a home made video. I did all the editing in FCP and made a great DVD in iDVD. I would like to do the same thing in PAL format so I can send it to my parents in Europe. My original footage is in NTSC. I did my own research and tried using compressor to change format to PAL.
I tried several different settings (PAL DV, Mpeg 2 PAL) but the outcome movie is always missing chapter markers.
I also tried to import the PAL movie (after conversion in Compressor) to FCP and added chapter markers but did not work.
Does anybody know how to convert the format from NTSC to PAL and keep the chapter markers at the same time? I would like to mantain as high quality as possible.
    Thanks for your help.

Well, this seemed to work. However, being completely new to converting to PAL, I was surprised to see the "jumpiness" that goes along with the frame rate drop. Looking at it taxes the eyes as it seems like its dropping frames every so often. I realize, through more research that this is due to the 25 FPS nature of PAL plus the fact that I'm converting and not just authoring from PAL material. Having said this, is there a tried and true way of "smoothing" this jumpiness that anyone would share?
A friend of mine suggested that when I place the file into DVDSP, I choose the TOP field in the encoding tab, prior to burning the disk. In the past I have always left the FIELD menu set at Auto. He says that setting it to TOP might help a little.
He also told me that a lot of the software based converters don't do the best of jobs. Although acceptable results may come from tweaking the settings, the best way to convert NTSC to PAL (with the most pleasing results) is by using a very high end converter (not a computer). Although you have to weigh out the circumstances such as how many disks will eventually be converted compared to available budget, is it worth spending a little extra for a master that will ultimately see 1,000 copies?
I'm planning on showing my client the burn with field dominance set to TOP, on Monday. Hopefully she'll find it acceptable and I'll be able to move on with this project. Thanks for all the help!

  • Inserting chapter markers, but iDVD not utilising them?

Very new to this Mac stuff and iMovie. Trying to create a DVD that can be played in a DVD player on a TV. I found iMovie pretty easy to put all the different separate videos together, added some funky transitions and a title to it all. I added chapter markers before each section because I want to be able to skip to the beginning of each section on the DVD player.
To create the DVD I chose share->iDVD and after a long process I iDVD opened and I got a message about being too long for DVD, change setting in Project Info. I changed Best Performance to Professional Quality and that seems to have stopped the message window, although to me it's counter-intuitive - I would have thought Prof Quality would take up more space on DVD instead of Best Performance, but anyway...
In the iDVD preview window I can play the movie correctly with the main menu then the movie, but can't skip from chapter to chapter - as though the chapter markers do nothing.
    Any ideas?

The default names in iMovie were just numbers 1-30 or whatever. After I had added the chapter markers I deleted some scenes/chapters so had to manually renumber all of the chapter marker numbers after the first deleted one (if that makes sense).
I don't know how to edit them in iDVD because I can't even see them anywhere.

  • Chapter markers not making it to DVD SP

Hi everybody. I don't see chapter markers I expected to find in my DVD SP project. This was my first time placing chapter markers in FC and it was my understanding they would appear in the DVD SP timeline. Here's my workflow:
I exported a sequence from FC that had four chapter markers using 'quicktime movie'/current settings/not self contained/'include DVD SP markers'. Opened in compressor and exported at best settings for 90-minute film for SD DVD with 'include DVD SP metadata' selected. (should I have also selected 'include chapter markers only'?)
I brought the clip into DVD SP and placed it into track one. No markers. Do I have to do something to make DVD SP find the markers? Have I made a mistake?
Note: the chapters show up when I open the .mov file in Quicktime but not when I open the M2v file in Quicktime.

In FCP, how did you create the Chapter Markers? The proper way is to hit the m key twice, then click the CHAPTER button. The markers HAVE TO BE on the Timeline - not on the clips (deselect any clips BEFORE adding Chapter Markers).

  • Need Help! How to add Chapter Markers to Mix for CD?

Help would be appreciated! So I created several mixes and I'm wondering how I can export them on one track to a CD with markers in it too skip through the song? So far all I can think of is adding chapter markers in podcast, but idk if that would export to a CD. Help Please!!!

I take it you want to export to a CD - CDs don't have chapter markers, just separate tracks, and that's what happens if you burn a CD straight from GB.
If you want an audio file with chapter markers, make sure you export your podcast as an AAC file. That will create an "enhanced" podcast with chapter markers, but if you burn that onto a CD, it won't play in an ordinary CD player.

  • How to add chapter markers in compressor 4

I'm having trouble adding chapter markers to my video project.  Help>???

    Barbara,
I agree with WT that the user manual is worth taking a look at. Here is a link to the marker editing process – which takes place in the Preview window of Compressor.
If you continue to encounter problems, provide us with additional details about your project and what issues you've encountered.
    Good luck.

I have never added chapter markers in GarageBand, and I assume that most other iMovie users had not either. Here is a little walkthrough I wrote up after going through the process.

  • DVDSP not recognizing Chapter Markers from FCP?

We added Chapter Markers in FCP6. We exported one time with DVD Studio Pro Marker and tried the other time with Chapter Markers. We took it into Compressor and made the file into MPG-2 and imported into DVD Studio Pro, though it does not seem to recognize the chapter markers once in DVD Studio Pro.
Does anyone have any advice on what I might be doing wrong?
    Thanks!

Or, just try selecting your sequence in FCP's browser, then go to the file menu and export using Compressor. Choose your setting, your destination, and hit submit. Saves steps, and it will export your complete sequence including chapter markers.
