Adding chapters/bookmarks to audiobooks

Hi,
How do I add chapters and bookmark my audiobook? Right now, its one huge file of 10 hours long. I want to break it up into chapters, so its easier to navigate. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance

Easy.....go to Doug's Scripts:
http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/scripts07.php?page=1#makebookmarkable
You want "Make Bookmarkable". It is the #1 script on the web site. While there, load up on the other twenty or more scripts to make your iTunes life a tad easier. This link shows what is available, click on the topic of interest:
http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scrxcont.php
I have maybe 60 scripts for iTunes, I use at least 10 of them a day. Every now and then I do donate to the site, something to consider if you are a happy camper post-Doug.
Cheers, SZ.

Upgrading to later Firefox versions and/or re-installing didn't rectify it either.
The address bar still shows the web addresses of old and whenever I make new bookmarks, it's always gone as if it was never made.
Also, I have noticed that every once in awhile you can not close tabs you've opened, either by pushing on the X button and/or clicking on the mouse to close it. Although closing the window and opening it again (without closing the Firefox application) seemed to rectify the problem in the short term, it's becoming quite annoying.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
== the Firefox is being used

    I think I have a solution.
First, download the add-on SQManager. This should be included with FireFox, it is really good.
Look for the file '''moz_hosts''' in the folder '''places.sqlite'''.
Don't delete the file, just delete the information in the file. My file has over 3600 websites, which go back years!! I did not know they were there, but I was frustrated about not being able to get rid of them. They popped up every time I used the address bar. Clearing my history would not get rid of them.
This is where they are stored!! I found that by deleting the pesky web site from '''moz_hosts''', it does not appear in my address bar anymore!!!
I think that if I just delete all the websites in moz_hosts....
    Wa-la...History Gone!!!
As long as you don't delete the file, just empty it, FireFox won't know the difference. It will just keep adding websites to it until you empty it again.
Why running "clear recent history" doesn't do this, I don't know. You are doing manually what "clear recent history" is not doing.
Please tell me if you see any flaw in this.

  • Installed Firefox 4 on Mac OS X 10.6.7. (1) How can I delete icons it added to bookmarks toolbar so they'll all fit again? (2) Where is the Organize Bookmarks tool now?

Don't know what details you might want.

I'm not sure about the 'icons' added to bookmarks toolbars, but you can control your bookmarks using "Show All Bookmarks". That replaced 'Organize Bookmarks'. It will open the bookmark library & you should be able to rearrange, add, delete, etc from here.

hello scarsman, i think by default all bookmarks are sorted by their creation date - however you can right-click each folder and choose to sort all currently available entries by name. in the bookmark library you can click on any column (name, tag, last visit date, visit count, date added, etc...) to sort them as you want...

  • Adding to bookmarks

    Adding to bookmarked?

In safari, the upright side, you can see an arrow icon which is beside of a book icon, touch it and you can see "add bookmark" function in the first row. If you want to see your bookmark, the book icon is the bookmarks you saved.

  • Is it possible to joing files with chapters bookmarks WITHOUT NEEDING transcoding?

Is it possible in FCPX to joing files with chapters bookmarks at the beginning of each clip (clips and project propieties the same so no need to render) and then exporting the project as one file WITHOUT NEEDING transcoding? Simply I want to join homogeneus files and place chapter marks inbetween. Or any program that does this? thanks

I don't think you there is a command to do what you are asking automatically for a bunch of clips, but FCP X supports chapter markers. You just have to add them in the timeline.
If the project settings equal the clip settings and the export settings, there should be no transcoding involved.
However, I believe that a simpler solution can be achieved (and this one is guaranteed to do no transcoding).
Download and install QTCoffee (a free download from http://www.3am.pair.com/QTCoffee.html)
    Open a terminal window, type "catmovie -o mymovie.mov -auto-chapters "
(without the quotes but with the trailing SPACE; use the name you want to give the new movie instead of mymovie.mov)
Drag the movie files into the terminal window. Press ENTER.
    Boom! (couldn't resist :-))
p.S.: By default this will place the newly created movie in your home folder (or on whatever is the active directory in the terminal shell at the time)

  • How do I create bookmarks in audiobooks?

How do I create bookmarks in audiobooks? Multiple listeners at different paces so we need to be able to stop and start at different places...

Thanks. I have a Mac and had to do one more step, which was to go to the top line of symbols, click on the cog wheel (organize bookmarks) and then select "new folder." You got me in the right place to start looking.

  • Need help with adding chapters

I like iMovie '08 for the quickness of scanning the video, however I'm hoping someone can explain the steps of exporting and adding chapters in garage band and then exporting that to iDVD. My ultimate goal is to create a dvd from my video footage and the dvd have scene selections. Also, will this cause quality loss (exporting/importing back and forth between programs). If there's another way to add chapters instead of in garage band, please let me know. Thanks.

    1) First, create your movie in iMovie. Then Share it using Share to iTunes, Share to Media Browser, etc.
    2) Now, Open GarageBand.
    3) Select "Create a new music project" (not "create a new podcast episode")
    4) Give your project a name and click "Create" (The time signature and all that stuff does not matter)
    5) You might see a grand piano keyboard. Click the red dot at the upper left corner of the keyboard to get rid if it.
    6) Now, at the bottom right corner of GarageBand, you should see a button for the Media Browser. Click it, and you should be able to find your movie.
    7) Drag your movie from the Media Browser to the main garageband area where it says "Drag Apple Loops here". It will create a video track with thumbnails for skimming and an audio track.
    8) At this point, you will also see a "Grand Piano Track" which is a default. You can delete it by selecting the Grand Piano track, and then clicking in the menus TRACK/DELETE.
Now, the only tracks remaining are your movie.
    9) Select your Movie Track and you will see the pane below where you enter Chapter names. In GarageBand terms these are Markers.
    10) Move the GarageBand playhead to the point in your movie where you want the first chapter. Click Add Marker. Your Chapter will have a default name of "Chapter 1" but you can click on it and change it. Make sure there is a checkmark by "marks a chapter" (not "marks a URL")
    11) Repeat step 10 until you have all your chapters.
    12) Now, click SHARE/SEND MOVIE TO iDVD, or SHARE/SEND MOVIE TO iTUNES, etc. depending on whether you are creating this for a DVD or for an iPod.
    You are done.

  • Having issues adding chapters between chapters already selected

    Hello,
I trying to create navigation on Encore by adding chapters between chapters I've already created and selected in Premiere. Let me explain more in detail what I'm trying to do. I have a two hour timeline that I divided in four chapters by using markers in Premiere, that works just fine when i create my dvd; but what I want to do it's add 3 minutes chapters between those four chapters already selected, so that when it plays on a dvd player, it can be rewinded or fast forwarded quicker, so that it can move 3 minutes back or forth during the process instead of going slowly throughtout the entire dvd.
I tried to use the feature "add chapters between intervals"  but it creates chapters thoughtout the entire timeline replacing the ones already selected which I do not want.
Is there a way  to do this with Encore without interfering. deleting, or replacing the created chapters in Premiere?
    Please Help!
    Thank you

I believe the answer is no.  If you want to make a feature request, see this link:
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform
I would suggest supporting the feature request here, since an export option would give you the ability to do what you want in a couple steps:  http://forums.adobe.com/thread/587573?tstart=0
In your case, it won't take that long to record the current chapter locations, add the 3 minute option, then replace the 4 chapters, deleting any automatic chapters that are closer than you would like.

  • Batch joining of movies while adding chapters

I can not seem to find any good tools out there that will batch join video files while adding chapters.
I have 20 folders, each with 20-30 avi files. I want to be able to join each video clip in each folder into one movie while making the start of each clip a new chapter. I would also like to be able to use compressor to compress the video.
I have found a few that let me join them, but they either do not support chapters, or the chapters dont load in DVD Studio Pro.
    Any advice?

Well if you are trying to join .avi and not .m2v then you can use pretty much whatever you want! FCP, Avid, Prem (coming back to mac), QT Pro etc.
Most encoders (Compressor, Bitvice etc) allow you input timecodes where you want chapters or add markers that dvdsp will recognise. If you do that you'll be able to add (or import with a marker list txt file) in dvdsp.
If you want to join m2v's then you can use MPEGAppend, Unix commands or the dvdsp timeline even...

  • Constant freezing in Encore CS6 adding chapters

I need assistance with why my Adobe Encore CS6 continues to freeze while scanning through a video to add chapters.  I literally have to wait 2-5 minutes after each added chapter and sometimes it freezes during my scan and the wheel of death starts.  It does disappear and I can begin to work again, but this is super frustrating.  I have six 2.5 hour recital videos to add chapters to and at this rate I'm gonna shot myself (not really, but you know what I mean).
    I am on a Mac
    OS X Version 10.8.4
    2.7 GHz Core I7
    RAM 16GB
I have 529 GB of space on the drive I am working from
I have 212 GB of space remaining on my actual laptop
In Final Cut Pro I can create proxy/optimized files to work with without the lag.  I am somewhat new to Encore and any help would be appreciated even if it's with another Authoring program.  I have the Adobe suite
    Thanks,

I assume the "drive you are working from" is an external. I wonder if that is the issue. I don't recall users complaining about this much of a slowdown.
What format is the file? I guess you don't say: is this dynamic link?
I assumed problems with scrolling down the timeline, but you mean a delay in Encore processing the new chapter marker, right?
Does it do it if the next chater is only 5 seconds down the timeline?
Does it do it with a short test segment? Create a 10 minute clip and see. If no slowdown, I'd conclude performance. If the slowdown is still there it doesn't rule it out.
But if the problem is present with the short clip, copy it to the laptop internal drive, create a test project, import there, and see if you have the problem. That may be the best workaround.
    You might try a workaround

  • Adding new bookmarks in Safari

Whenever I add a bookmark to the "bookmarks bar" folder it always adds the website to the top of the list, which ruins the order in which my "hot keys" (command + 1, command + 2, ect. ect.) While this is a very quick fix of just dragging the newly added website to the bottom of the list, is there anything I could enter into terminal which would just automatically add the websites to the bottom of the list? This is just a minor inconvenience which logically seems like a quick fix. Any help would be great

  • Adding chapters while preserving the original file size and type.

Gone are the days of easily adding chaps in FCP7.  FCPX is here… chapters are gone!.  Now enter Compressor 4.
When exporting from Compressor am I ultimately going to end up with an additional file with new settings?
I have followed the Compressor manual and understand that I can “Create a new batch from template” and am supposed to choose Create DVD.  I however just want to keep my file in its original maximum resolution while gaining the chapter marks that will be recognized in iDVD or Studio Pro.
Can anybody offer me some advice or point me to some good resources?

Assume you're referring to Compressor 4, although the following would pretty much also apply to earlier versions.
Yes; you will have an additional file with chapter markers.
Select a preset…you can start with any of them, but Pro Res 422 makes the most sense.
If your source file (the exported Quick Time file) was PR 422, it will not change the scale and will preserve the quality of your original file (or close enough so you wouldn't be able to see the difference even with a blown up projected image). If, for some reason you a codec other than Pro Res, go to the Inspector>Encoder pane>Video Settings>Compression Settings and make your choice.
In the Preview window, set the chapter markers, which are frame-accurate in an I Frame format like Pro Res.
Submit and Compressor will spit out a high quality QT movie. You can then bring that movie into iDVD, which will recognize your markers.
If you want to use DVDSP, you have two options. 1) You can let DVDSP do the encoding by importing the QT movie with chapters. 2) You can use Compressor to encode; you choose the DVD preset (Disk Burning) and it creates separate audio and video files that you then bring into DVDSP, which will "see" your markers in these files. Most DVDSP users use the second method because they have far greater control over the compression settings…but that presumes the user is relatively familiar with Compressor and Frame Controls.
Finally, bear in mind that DVDs are standard definition, so – however you get there – the DVD will be much more compressed and much smaller resolution than any High Def format. However, the DVD end product can still look very good. Do some tests with small, but representative sections of your movie to see whether iDVD or DVDSP works best for you.
    Good luck.

  • Setting bookmarks for audiobooks

I principally use iTunes for listening to audiobooks, and it is irritating me no end to have to find a pen and write down where I am every time I close down iTunes. It's even more fun if the computer crashes and/or it's a long book without chapter titles. I ran a search in this forum, and all I could find was this advice:
    Select the file in iTunes.
    Right click - get info.
    Select the Options tab.
    Tick Remember playback position.
I've tried this but it doesn't remember the playback position next time you open iTunes. Indeed, it started doing strange things. I tried stopping at bookmark at 9.43 minutes into Track 15, and when I reopened it started at 9.43 min into Track 1. I changed to 14.32 min into Track 17, and this time when I reopened, it was still at 9.43 min into Track 1. Is there anything that can be done to set a bookmark? Failing that, is there any other software that will work for me here?

what you need to do is convert your audiobook files to the proper format, which is m4b. i listen to tons of audiobooks, all of which i get in mp3 format. what i use to convert is a free program that combines all your small mp3 files into one large m4b file (you also have the option to keep the files seperate but i see no point in that). once you have converted, add the file to itunes. it will add it to your audiobook folder and automatically remember where you left off last time you listened. it works great. here's a link to the software: http://www.freeipodsoftware.com/. it's really easy to use. just drag and drop. it even adds tags. can't recommend it highly enough.
