Adding characteristic

Hi'.
I have added a new characteristic to an infoprovider and assigned it to a new dimension. When I transport this correction to our QA system, I get an error stating : "InfoCube contains data; intentional changes not permitted".
I have found an OSS message(934250) which adresses issues around changing line item dimensions (which I haven't) but also adresses an issue regarding partitioning of infocube. We have not partitioned the cube, so I have no clue on what to do as deleting data and reloading is out of the question due to the amount of data. Can anyone help me out on this? I am on a 3.0B system using Oracle.

You can add charecteristics but after adding the charecteristics you need to do the following
Remove the data in the cube
Reload the data into the cube after the addition of the charecteristics
In Bi7, there is an option called remodelling tool which enables you to add charecteristics without removing the cube data. In all lower versions you have to remove data and reload to capture the records for the newly added charecteristics

Report Painter Adding Characteristic

Hi,
I like to pull real estate (RE) object (property, business entity, contact) to report in Report Painter reporting.
For existing library, there are no such characteristics available. Hence, i create a new library from table CCSS and tried to add the related characteristic to it. Why i can see the fields (eg. SGRNR, OBJNR_IG ..) available in CCSS but cannot see it in GR23 and insert it to my selection ? How to add additional characteristic beside select from the standard given fields ?
Or anyone can tell me which library available with RE information ?

Adding characteristic to report makes data disappear(BEx)

Can anyone help me out regarding why records are disappearing from query(BEx) when any attribute of XYZ_SALES is added.

Please check if there is any Restriction in BEX Query where you are excluding all records with 0MAT_SALES = #.
Also if master data 0mat_sales is not maintained no data will come for its attribute as well in the report i.e if that order/document is not present in master data it will not flow in report also.

VC - new characteristic does not show in PS BOM explosion / CU50

Hello World,
we added a new Characteristic to a class that is basis for a Material BOM explosion. In transaction CU50, the new characteristic can be configured by selecting its single values and the result shows up correctly in the BOM explosion.
Unfortunately, it is does not show up in the BOM explosion result of the SAP PS module @ Network Activity where the explosion is done concerning to our biz process. All other characteristics explode properly in the PS BOM explosion. I have no clue about the difference of the newly added characteristic is that makes it behave differently (only) in the PS system, not showing up in the result.
In CU50 @ Menu Extras @ Result I found a trace of the difference, but cannot interpret it due to a lack of documentation of the resulting screen that is entitled "Configuration : Result". Here, in table "Detail List", only the faulty new characteristics show additional extra Dependency entries with a light green background that cannot be found with all other characteristics in the same table. These extra entries can be drilled down by double-click and produce a pop-up window that shows some status information and the dependencies source code.
Question: what do the extra entries of dependencies say, why are they shown and why not at other characteristics?
By understanding this difference I hope to find the reason why these characteristics are not exploded in the PS module (which is my primary question).

1.Consider setting the Individual/Collective indicator to 2. (MRP 4 view)
2.In order to get dependent requirements from the planning of configurable materials, components should not be configured with strategy group 70 or 59.

Restrict values of characteristic in input-ready new rows query

Hello all
We are creating an input-ready new rows query. So we added characteristic as row.
We need the values in F4 (while choosing value in this row) are to be restricted by hierarchy (or just restricted by some algorithm - list of values). But if we choose "hierarchy" for that characteristic, it will also appear in rows, so not one posted value will appear, but full hierarchy for this value. How to make F4 for choosing restricted values of any characteristic.
Reason: we have different account plans for different years and don't want users to choose "old" positions.

Try to use next variants:
1) Authorization
restrict you characteristic in RSECADMIN
2) COMPAUND
You can add compaund characteristic to you main characteristic, and if you restrict this compaund characteristic in filter, then in query you'll see only appropriate values
3) FILTER
You can restrict not only fixed values, but you can use prequery for you characteristic. For example make DSO in which will be calmonth and account in key. And make query to take accounts for calmonth. After that in you main query restrict you account through variables with replace path type (set query for accunts for month).
4) Relation in RSPLAN
Create DSO(as in case 3) and try to use relation for you realtime cube in RSPLAN.

Master data to be deleted after adding attribute

Hii All,
I have a master data info object, which contains the data.what will happen if i add new attribute to this master data info object.
right now this master data info object doesn't contain any data for this newly added attribute.
then i tried to delete data from the master data info object.but it is not allowing me to do so as it is used in three info cubes. i think if i delete the data then it will allow me to delete data from master data info object.But that is not possible as subsequently i have to delete the data from info cube in productio also.
So ran full update for the master data info object now i have the data for the newly added attribute.But when i am running report and try to drill down on the newly added characteristic it shows "#" not assigned.
What should i do..

Nothing will happen if you add a new attribute to the existing one. If your adding in the dev system, it will as you to create a request when you activate it.Just create a request the transport it.
2.But that is not possible as subsequently i have to delete the data from info cube in productio also.
You can delete the data in the dev system cube irrespective of production server cube data. If you delete the cube then you have to worry but deleting the data from the cube is not to worry. You can go ahead with deleting the data in the cube in dev server.
3.So ran full update for the master data info object now i have the data for the newly added attribute.But when i am running report and try to drill down on the newly added characteristic it shows "#" not assigned.
AFter loading the data . right click on the master data object and clik on Activate masster data or RUn apply hierarchy attribute change in Tools menu.

Input Readiness of Query with optional variables

Hi,
I built one input ready query which is input ready upon execution with only one set of selections, for any other set of selections, it is not input ready.Query is built on aggregation level on the top of multiprovider. There are no data slices built, No lock entries in RSPLSE as well. Is it like if a variable in the selection screen of the query is optional, will it be moved to free characteristic and because of that input readiness of the query will disappear?? In my case, country is authorized variable which is optional. Please let me know if any one has solution for this.

Hi,
Check if:
1. You have added characteristic InfoProvider in filter area and restricted that to your plan cube?
2. Any Keyfigure in query will have input-ready cell only if all the characterictics in the aggregation level of that query has unique values for that cell.
In your case you have moved Country to free characteristic area and might have not provided any value for it as it's optional. So system is not finding a unique value for this characteristic for input-ready cells.
Enter value for Country variable and then execute, query will be input-ready.

Two Update Rules populating One Infocube

Hi all
Im a little confused:
1) I have to add a characteristic to an Infocube.Which I did and also assigned it to an appropriate dimension.
2)There are two update rules populating the Infocube.
3)The new charcteristic that ive added to the cube has to be populated using a routine.
My confusion is that to which update rule should i add the routine to?whats the deciding factor? how do i decide?
I would like to have more details and preferably any document which clarifies such scenarios.

You can do it using both update rules or...
Find out which are the related characteritics and write the routine in that update rule:
Ex
Cube has
Project | Activity | Manager | Team Member | .....
Update rule 1 :
Project | Manager |...
Update rule 2:
Project | Activity | Team Member | ....
and the added characteristic is Project Status and it makes more sense to add it to update rule 1 rather than update rule 2...

Editable Analysis Grid: Handling of New Master Data

Hi folks,
I've an analysis grid that is editable using a BEx WebTemplate in SAP BW Integrated Planning environment. The table contains a characteristic, that has to be qualified before a user can save the data entry. The problem is, that the values, the user can choose for this characteristic, have already to be maintained as master data. My question is, if there is a way to avoid this behavior. A user should entry any value for this characteristic and after he has saved the whole entry, the master data table should be extended with the new values.
Anyone here with helpful hints for me?

In BW IP, using characteristic relationship you can restrict the user from entering invalid characteristic values.
But your specific requirement can achieved by any one of the following solutions,
1. You can create a characteristic relationship of type "Exit" and you can write the necessary ABAP code to include your new user added characteristic value in to the master data table of that particular characteristic. Kindly refer the below link for more details,

You can use the class, 'CL_RSPLS_CR_EXIT_BASE' and then you have to implement the methods u2018CHECKu2019, u2018DERIVEu2019 and u2018CREATEu2019. Among these methods, in the 'DERIVE' method you can write the code to add the characteristic values in to master data table.
2. You can convince the user to add the new characteristic values in to the master data table by developing a ABAP report. You can ask the user to enter the values and then execute your report.

Multi Provider Changes - The Query cannot be executed

Hello,
I added a new characteristic to an existing multiprovider on which queries already exist.
I changed one of the existing queries adding that newly added characteristic.
Now the query cannot be executed. Please see the log...
I could successfully execute the query in RSRT....
Diagnosis
Characteristic 0BILL_TYPE is used in the Query Designer, but was deleted from the InfoProvider.
System response
The query cannot be executed.
Procedure
Characteristic 0BILL_TYPE is used in the query to be executed even though it was deleted from the InfoProvider. The problem can be solved by changing the query in the Query Designer. Here, you get a repair proposal, which removes the missing InfoObject from the query. Afterwards, check whether or not the query was defined correctly.
You can also delete the query.

The check in query designer says that query is correct.
Only when I try to execute using the web it says that Char doesn't exist in infocube.
The query works fine in Analyzer & RSRT....I guess something got to do with the Browser or web..

Delete data in Infocube

I want a add a keyfigure to a Newcube...
Before creating a new cube from the existing cube as a template...Do we have to always delete the data in the existing cube??Can U tell me why do we have it?

mostly if you add keyfigure, you won't need to delete cube's data,
if you add characteristics without change the dimension, also no need to delete data.
cube data deletion may needed when we add new characteristic to existing dimension,
or we change dimension's characteristic members, then system may need to re-create dimension table, error like to occur when we transport the infocube to target system without deleting the cube's data. you can try without deleting data first, if error occur then may need to delete cube's data (in adding characteristic case).

Remodelling coding

We have field storage location stor_loc in our ods. Using remodelling we are are trying to fill the data

Regarding Remodelling

Hi,
In SAP BI 7.0 I read that both add and delete of infoobject should not happen with the infocubes that contains the data without using the remodeling concept.
But i tried to add the infoobjects to the infocube directly without using the remodeling concept and i was able to add the infoobjects
to infocube that contains the data and i cannot delete the infoobjects.
My question is why it is allowing me to add the infoobjects to the infocube that contains the data without using remodeling?

We use remodeling to get the historic data for the added characteristic / keyfigure. Thus system allows you to add a new characteristic and helps in populating the new delta data for that field. But if you require historic data, you need to use Remodeling concept.
When you try to delete the characteristic, system tries to check the consistency of the associated dim and sid tables. As there is data in it , it wont allow you delete it. This is where remodelling helps by deleting the associated data in Sid & Dim tables along with the characteristic.

2. Again, in the demonstration of the u201CAdd key figureu201D in the remodeling of the cube, the author used CONSTANT = 100. Can you help me understand a situation in production where you will have to set a key figure to a constant value? E.g. u201CNet Salesu201D should always be $5000? I may be missing the point in that remodeling.
3. I also noticed that while remodeling CHARACTERISTICS, there was the option u201CCUSTOMER Exitu201D but in the case of KEY FIGURE the option was u201CUSER Exitu201D
Any reason why one is CUSTOMER and the other as USER?
4. There was the emphasis to u201C.. backup database before running remodeling requests..u201D Is it referring to Basis backing up the BW system? Or, is there a way to take a copy of the cube to be remodeled and its data? If it is the second option, any hints on how?

In this case coding is required............So u hav to go for Customer exit........
If u do 1:1 Mapping with Characteristics..........it will access value as per that Characteristics.....

Suppose price of a product...........it will not change everyday...............that keyfigure hav to set as a constant value...........

if you want to transfer the content of one infocube to another one ...............
a) generated the export datasource for the source infocube...right-click->'generate export datasource
b) create transformation.......(without any filter or calculation, with the mapping 1:1 to all the infoobjects) ................in this way u can 'copy' (with one shot data load, as a full request) all the data.........

Generally u will don't hav changing authorization in PROD.........Look frankly speaking..........I hav never done Remodeling..........but as per the statement .......During remodeling process InfoCube is locked for any changes or data loads so make sure you stall all the data loads for this InfoCube till the time this process finishes..............I think we do remodeling directly in PROD only.........

Equipment Partner added but not in characteristic selection values

Hi,
I want to ask some tips here because in the equipment master, a partner was added (as an operator) but when we try to add that partner as the driver (characteristic) it is not in the selection. What could be the possible causes of the data not flowing to the selection values whilst it has been added already as a partner and HR confirmed that the record is already in their master data.

My apologies. here's the answers.
do you see the strange data in the master data of the IO?
I am not able to see tha master data in the IO. In the config of the IO, the "With Master Data" option is unchecked.
The IO is used in a number of cubes. So in order to try and see if the values came from transaction data, I went to each of those cubes and ran a quick check of the infocube contents. I focused the search on one of the "incorrect" values. (The volume of data in the cubes is enormous). I did not get any results from this search.
can you suggest anything more I can do?
