Adding color to a video film

Forum,
I have a video recorded some years ago.
I shows a cat with her four kittens who are about eight weeks old.
How ever all is grey(gray).
Is there any procedure in COLOR to add colour to this video.
The background is mainly a white utility room.
The mother is a tortishell while the kittens are mainly grey but two of them have some pinky and orange fur.
If some one could give me some guidance or even recommend a book I could purchase I would be very grateful.

Hello, Michael
if the footage has faded you can use the shadows and highlight and gray scale contrast sliders in conjunction with increasing the saturation which should bring back the color
if the footage was shot in b&w then what jp owens said

HELP! Filmed high school graduation with live switcher and the video has NO color. IS there any way to add color back to the video using FCP or any plugin?
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

If there is literally no colour on the source, you're doomed, I'm afraid. If it's just extremely unsaturated (very washed out), you can try the Colour Corrector and turn up the saturation. But be warned - it will add noise to your picture.
There's simply no way to add colour back where there was none to start with (barring expensive and very time consuming colourisation approaches).

  • Color correction followed by Film effects = bad vid?

I have some shots at the beach, and the shots look pretty good after I do the color correction. I want to add the film effect, so composite clips using Screen & Soft light modes, and use the gaussian blur. It results in something that I totally dont want, and it looks all washed out. Color correction and the film effects work pretty good individually, but together they are just not working for me. Can someone please tell me how can I preserve the color correction, and that filmic glow at the same time.
    Thanks a lot

You can move the filters around in a different order. Moving them in a particular order will change how the filters interacted with each other.
For example: You might want to do a lighting effect first followed by a blur. In this order you blurring the lighting effect. If you do the blur first and light effect next. You lighting the blur. (OR) You may want to do the color correction last for an over all color effect on the video and how it looks. If you do a color correction first the filter to follow with change how the color correction looks.
Play around with the order and try to get the effect you want.

  • Premiere Pro CS6 and CC with bad quality and incorrect colors in output video

    Hi everyone!
I'm frustrated with my results after exporting a video with Adobe Premiere Pro (both CS6 and CC).
The color of the video output is slightly different to the original file (i've checked if it was a problem with my video player, but no, i've tested the video with WMP and others with no success).

I'm exporting the video using almost the same parameters from the original file.
Here's a screen shot of my settings in Premiere:
As you can see in the printscreen, the settings only differ from the original file parameters in the bit rate (which i raised a little),
the TV standard (which i have no ideia what it changes), the level of H.264 (which i raised from 4.0 to 4.1, 5.0 and 5.1), and the bit rate encoding (which i've tried using CBR, VBR 1, and VBR 2).
Just for my curiosity...why these numbers in orange are so extensive? I mean, the original video is only 01:35:30:06 in final output (which is correct).
Notice that i do not use key frame distance (as i don't know what it does).
If i'm doing something wrong, please tell me.

Well if i do that, the video will raise up GBs larger (and that is really bad).
    Why is it really bad?
Its a fact of digital  life. High datarate = quality.
example ...even the Youtube preset is in the 8mpbs area.
...and you are exporting 1 hr 35mins of media.

I'm going to see if Currys can remove all info from my hard drive and hopefully recover my itunes, but if this does not work is there another way to get them?

  • Why are colors of embedded videos opened with acrobat different to original files?

    Hello,
I generated a videoclip in Premiere CC in different formates ( mp4, mov; flv.... ) and embedded it in an Indesign document. From there I generated an interactive PDF. Opening the file in Acrobat, the colors of the video are different as in a videoplayer like quicktime. Opening the pdf in a browser like safari, the colors are correct. Alternative I embedded the video with acobat pro but the result was the same like before. What is the reason for this problem? Do I have to mange some special colorsetting in the video or are there some presettings to be done in Acrobat?

If you open System Preferences / Displays / Color can
you change the color profile to others in the list?
Or, do you get a "beep" and no change?
I can change the color profile.

    Thanks OT,
I tried the Export function but it would not allow me to choose the option of exporting to iMovie. I think you are right about needing Quicktime Pro. I opened iMovie and imported the clip from iPhoto and with some searching found the 'cropping, rotation' mechanism. So I now have a copy in the correct orientation. I plan to import/export it back to iPhoto because I want to have a copy on my iPhone to show people and I wanted to have it available as part of a slideshow I am making in iPhoto of my recent overseas trip. It is a pain that there is no simple orientating tool for the movie clips downloaded to iPhoto with the photos from the one camera.

  • Added music track to video..entire screen is green and I cannot delete music track

I added music track to video, inadvertently dropped outside of clip now entire area outside of track is green and I can't remove or delete music.

i literally deleted the entire "Purchases" folder and restarted the phone. it recreated the folder (except without all our problem files) as soon as it powered back on.
no idea what downloads refers to - i tried this process with that folder and it didn't change anything or solve the prob.
as for the syncing of the playlist - i still don't think that would solve it. it seems like there is a discrepancy being created whenever a song is downloaded from the store, period. and as for deleting the stream files - no. I switched over to manual manage, deleted the files manually, but they simply recreated themselves as soon as i did another sync.
It was indeed the purchases folder that needed reconciling.
as a fun side note - i used phoneview to make a PDF of all my 60,000 texts from the previous 3 years, and then deleted them from my phone - saving myself like 10 gigs
realizing now this could all seem like i'm some rep for the phoneview app. i swear i'm not hahahaha

  • Lightroom workflow to correct color of my videos. Anybody knows?

Hi, Iam a photographer and I am studying video production. I love the Lightroom color correction because some distortions can be fixed easily with that HSL (Hue, Saturation and Lighting) controls and that Magenta x green and blue x yellow sliders. And another great functions inside Lightroom. Ive tried to create a workflow exporting jpeg from my footage, importing to the lightroom, treating the images and then importing the jpegs sequence to premier, but Its not a good solution. Anybody knows if there is a good solution or some plugin to premiere where I can find the lightroom color controls to video color correction? I love the Lightroom workflow to treat my photos and I would love if I can treat my videos without limitations under Lightroom. Thanks

in Photoshop you can save an adjustment layer as a Color Lookup Table (something like that) then import that  as through Lumetri in Premiere. So, I do not know about Lightroom, but why wouldn't it have similar. Only thing with Photoshop was that of the 4 formats of the color lookup, one turned the image checkerboard and a second might have issues as well. I didn't experiment fully with it, just enough to know that it is there and a cool tool.

  • ***Editing video: Help adding text to my video! Gamut-like problem***

Hi, I'm using the Photoshop CS6 free trial and I'm having trouble adding text to my video. I select the Text tool on the left side of the screen and when I expand the box to add text, it automatically changes my video to a gamut-like screen. I can still add text but the screen doesn't change back to my video. I don't know what I can do to fix this problem. I already tried turning off the gamut warning but it doesn't fix the problem.
    Thank you!!

You need to create a separate video track for the text overlay. You are simply trying to type in soem existing stuff and it invalidates your existing video.

  • Matching color between a video and a photo in PS CC

    Hi,
I am trying to match the color between a Video and a photo in Photoshop CC.
This works ok with the color matching tool. Image > Adjustments > match color.
However, it only matches the color of the 1st frame and no the whole video.
Is there a way to use the color matching tool to apply the adjustments to the whole video?
    Thanks for the help
    Regards.

    Thanks for the quick reply
I don’t think I explained myself very well.
I want the video to match the Photo. Not to apply adjustments to the video and photos at the same time.
The Photos (raw) and video were taken at the same time with the same camera.
I have worked on the photos in adobe camera raw and saved them as tiffs.
Now I have opened up the video and tiffs in Photoshop and would like to match the new colors from the tiffs to the Video file.
When I use the match color tool, the Video and Tiff are the same color.
However Photoshop only matches the 1st frame of the video, the rest of the video is left in the original color.
My question is, how can I get the Match color tool to apply the color setting to the whole video?
So that the whole video is the same color as the Tiffs, not just the 1st frame.
    Regards.

  • Color settings for video demos in Captivate 7 and 8

I have been working with Captivate 7, and I recently got the Captivate 8 upgrade.  I haven't been able to get good quality colors in my video demos in either version.  I can select either 16 bit and 32, but the resulting video looks exactly the same, like when I change my monitor to display 16 bit.  Software simulations look great, but I can't seem to change the color setting for the videos.  I've changed the settings both in general and in individual projects, and still no change.  I'm using a Mac to capture video on Windows 7 through VMware.  I've tested the video demo capture on the Mac, and it's showing the same degraded colors.  Any ideas?

  • Adding Color to Black & White Photo

I have PE 9 and I know how to change a photo from Color to Black and White.  I am having trouble adding color back to the photo...Could someone please help me selectively add color to my now black and white photo.
    Thanks in advance.

    That's the easiest.
    Open your full colour image.
Choose the Smart Brush tool I showed in my previous post.
On the Options bar for the tool,
    hit the dropdown arrow (1).
Hit the effects dropdown box and choose "Black and White" (2).
    Select "Grayscale" (3).
Set your brush to a small size.
Paint over the areas you want to be in Black & White.  The brush automatically selects entire areas as you paint.
If it goes too far, set the brush to "minus"
and paint over the excess area to return it to the original colour.
The automatic selection kind of "learns" what you want, so by going back and forth between "plus" and "minus", you'll ultimately get what you want.
