Adding comments on the AUR package pages?
I just aint seein where to comment, but I got some useful things to add to a couple.
How do I add a comment?
#!/bin/bash
username=
password=
aur='http://aur.archlinux.org'
cookie=/tmp/aur.cookie
[ -f "${cookie}" ] || curl -s -d user=${username} -d passwd=${password} "${aur}/index.php" -c "${cookie}" >/dev/null
curl "${aur}/packages.php?ID=${1}" -d ID=${1} -d comment="${2}" -b "${cookie}" -D /dev/stderr >/dev/null
Usage:
0. Register an AUR account
1. Fill in the username and password with your AUR account info
2. Run the script with:
./aurcmt 22296 "Ranguvar, update it already!!!"
If you get "Set-Cookie:" in the response header, tada it's done.
PS: No spam...

Did I install the AUR packages correctly and safely ?
Hello
I'm interested in several packages in AUR, but to be honest, it's the first time that I install an AUR pkg without using the yaourt frontend.
I just installed archey, I tried to follow the wiki but I would like to know if I followed all the steps correctly or not...
I've done:
sudo pacman -S fakeroot
wget http://aur.archlinux.org/packages/archey/archey.tar.gz
wget http://aur.archlinux.org/packages/archey/archey/PKGBUILD
makepkg -s
[makepkg -s installed git, and perl-error through pacman I supposed]
sudo pacman -U archey-20100704-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
My questions are:
1] I've done "sudo pacman -U archey-20100704-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz" but the wiki said "$ pacman -U /path/to/pkg.tar.gz" => because the prompt said something like "only root can perform this action" when I was not using sudo
2] After the installation, I've done "pacman -Qdt" and it appeared that git, and perl-error were not longer used, so I removed them => Is it a mistake ?
3] How can I update the AUR packages when a newer version will be released ?
Sorry for my english, and thank you for helping me understanding

Thank you Allan:
"3) there are many helpers to keep AUR packages up to date. See the wiki." => Sorry that was not that I wanted to say, I hope I will do this things in the future, but I have not enough experience for that now ^^
In fact, I wanted to say: How can I update the packages installed in my computer from AUR (example: archey) when the maintainer will update his program ?
Thanks again, it's nice to learn news things about Arch, AUR, and Linux ^^
Read what Allan said again.
You want an AUR helper, like packer, clyde or bauerbill, for example. ;) -
Adding comment in the OTL Timecard ( in both timekeeper entry & Self-Service)
Hi all,
I need to add a new comment field in the timecard (both the timekeeper entry page & the Timecard Self-Service page).
I am going through the white paper "Configuring The Oracle Time and Labor Timecard User Interface" currently.
what i understand is modifying the LDT file will allow me to add the desired comment in the TimeCard Self Service page, while I need it to be exist in the Timekeeper Entry page also.
i should be able to enter the employee timecard with my comment in the new comment field using the timekeeper entry page and submit it for approval. The approver should be able to review and see my comment in the employee timecard self service page.
what are the required steps to have the new comment field exist in both layouts?
also, is it possible to add the comment not as a new column, can we add the field just beside the seeded comment in the Timekeeper Entry down beside the Select All/Deselect All button?
Note: I am using the Payroll TimeCard Layout.
Thanks for any help.Hi Gaurav,
Sure.
We would like to take the employee time cards being entered into the (OTL Self Service Time Entry) and once approved, have them automatically populate the OTL Timekeeper by employee. These employees are already defined in various Timekeeper groups. Once the supervisor opens up that group in Timekeeper they will be able to export those employee time records to an excel spreadsheet for further data manipulation. That's our end goal.
The question I have is, how does the upload from (OTL Self Service Time Entry to OTL Timekeeper) happen?
Does it happen once the employee time card has been approved?
or
Do you have to launch some type of concurrent job, etc?
I just can't find that process answer and what if anything that needs to be done.
Again, thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Commenting feature in packages page, like in the AUR's ones.
I noticed AUR packages page has a feature letting you to add comments. I find this particularly useful because it enables focused commenting by the users of such packages. You can easily keep track of bugs, possible breakage, any kind of problems with the package, and basically it would be very nice to have this kind of feature for the same reasons we already have it in the AUR site.
Peace.For discussion and "something went wrong but don't know what exactly" issues there's forum, IRC and ML. Using informative subjects helps finding relevant forum / ML threads.
Wiki articles have their discussion pages too, so if you're unsure about something, post there.
Finally, I find AUR comments lacking:
1. You can't sticky a comment.
2. Hell, you can't even link to a specific comment.
3. You can't have threaded comments so if you are dealing with more than one issue at the same time it's a mess.
4. Lack of bbcode-like (or similar) formating (although the bug tracker doesn't support formating either). -
[SOLVED] What are Git-type AUR packages?
I read the ArchWiki Entry on Git, but I still don't really understand what it is in terms of Aur packages.
I've seen this a couple of times, where there's a second git version of a package in AUR. For example, when I type 'prey' into Yaourt, I get a couple of results, among them:
3 aur/prey-git 20100424-1 (5)
Prey is a lightweight application that will help you track and find your laptop if it ever gets stolen.
4 aur/prey-tracker 0.6.0-1 (100)
Remote tracking and monitoring application for laptops, smartphones, and other electronic devices
Either would install Prey on my computer, right? What are the differences and/or benefits of either?

x33a wrote:As someone mentioned on the forums recently, people should at least abandon the packages so others can take over.
You can always e-mail the maintainer and if you don't get a response in two weeks, ask on the AUR ML to take that package over.
In the meantime you can post a link to the updated PKGBUILD etc. in comments on the AUR page of that package.
As with my posts, quantity != quality ;P -
Can't upgrade AUR packages after removal of /var/lib/pacman/local
Hi guys, i accidentally deleted the content of /var/lib/pacman/local but fortunately i restored it following the wiki.
But, in this way, i only restored base packages and so no one of the packages i've installed from AUR is shown in the list of the installed packages....i thought to install them again one by one, but installation is not successful because files already exist and, beside this, i don't rember the name of all the AUR packages....
Any suggestion?
Thanks

Unless you have a backup of /var/lib/pacman/local, I think you're going to have to manually remove files provided by AUR packages, then reunstall them. Or you could try forcing the install (see man pacman), but take care not to break other packages in the process.
If it's useful to you, you can generate a list of files that pacman doesn't know about with:
find / -exec pacman -Qo -- {} + 2> /tmp/files >/dev/null
less /tmp/files
This will include cache files, user created files, etc. so don't just rm everything unowned by pacman.
That's what i thought to do but as i wrote i don't remember which are the aur packages, better still i remember just some of them...i tried your commands but i get a list of such strange things about cache etc...i can't see nothing concerning pacman....surely is a lack of mine....
However, following the wiki that i linked in the first post, i've got a list of all installed packages (base+aur):

When I go to http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php i see pages of packages but when I go to ftp://ftp.archlinux.org/community/os/i686/ (or try to use pacman) there are only 12 packages listed. It looks like the remaining packages are in ftp://ftp.archlinux.org/incoming, do these need to be reviewed before they are added to /community? Maybe I'm just doing something wrong?
As i3839 said, the TUs haven't transfered their packages yet to the AUR. Only kritoke and pjmattal have done so. Patience is the key...
As for incoming, it has been dead for several months and looks very messy. Probably most packages there are old versions of package in the official repo. I don't think that TUs have time (or care) to check it for potential packages. If you want a package from incoming, it would be better to check if its in the current/extra repo or in a TUR. If not, you can make a request in the AUR Package Requests forum if you can't build it yourself. -
[Solved] AUR package fails MD5 (tweetdeck)
New to arch, new to linux aside from a 3 week crash course with ubuntu.
Following this link to install tweetdeck. http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=75416 Problem arises with it comes time to install tweetdeck.
==> Retrieving Sources...
-> Found TweetDeck_0_26.air in build dir
==> Validating source files with md5sums...
TweetDeck_0_26.air ... FAILED
==> ERROR: One or more files did not pass the validity check!
Error: Makepkg was unable to build tweetdeck package.
I notice from the AUR webpage for the package this has happened before but searching has come up empty on how to fix it aside from waiting on someone to update the package. What's my play other than wait?
Last edited by past_pluto (2009-08-22 18:47:18)Make a comment on the AUR about the problem. If it's had the problem for several weeks, try to contact the maintainer (look up their username on the forums, see if they put an email address in the PKGBUILD, etc.). If that also fails, then send an email to aur-general and ask for the package to be orphaned, so you or another user can pick it up and fix it.

How about to make AUR packages available for editing like in wiki
If you want to contribute to a PKGBUILD on the AUR, post a comment. I like to think that most maintainers are open to suggestion. A few might be simply scratching their own itch, and aren't interested in other people's opinions, but if that's the case, they should probably ditch the AUR package and just have a local PKGBUILD.
If you encounter a maintainer that's unresponsive both through comments and email (two weeks of no response is generally considered unresponsive), post a message to the AUR-General mailing list with a link to the package, and a request to orphan it. Explain the situation, including when you tried to contact the maintainer, what the response was (if any), and reason why you want to take over maintaining it (if applicable). You'll normally get a response within a day from a Trusted User, who can orphan the package for you, or refuse the request (for whatever reason). -
How to list AUR packages in terminal with yaourt or other helper?
I can list packages I have installed from AUR, for example to find all the developer components of Xfce that I have installed, I can run the following command:
pacman -Qim | grep -E "Name : xf".+devel
Which outputs:
Name : xfce4-appfinder-devel
Name : xfce4-dev-tools-devel
Name : xfce4-panel-devel
Name : xfce4-session-devel
Name : xfce4-settings-devel
Name : xfdesktop-devel
Name : xfwm4-devel
But, how do I find out if there are other packages that match the same regex pattern available in the AUR, maybe using yaourt? When I try:
yaourt -Si | grep -E "Name : xf".+devel
I get no output. When I don't include .+devel, I find out that none of the AUR packages are included. If I try to force it to search the AUR by including -a, it says that's not a valid option.
So, how do I search the AUR from the terminal?falconindy wrote:
cower transparently supports regex -- but not thanks to the AUR. In reality, the query "xf.*-devel" is actually asking the AUR to search for "xf". The returned results are filtered against the regex "xf.*-devel" and out pops magic.
Yaourt doesn't do this.
I saw that, but Yaourt should be able to simply query the AUR without it trying to install stuff, but how? Does anyone know? I knew yaourt didn't support regex, that's why I was piping the output to grep. It worked for pacman, and works for yaourt when it uses pacman, but I can't figure out how to get it to return the contents of the AUR so I can pipe those contents through grep. -
Pan Newsreader AUR Packages Confusion...
Hi,
not sure of this is the right group for this, but i just built a new Arch box and was installing my standard newsreader, Pan (v.0135) from files in the AUR, a process I've completed successfully a couple of times on other machines. Odd thing was, the version I installed kept segfaulting when I tried to delete article headers, a basic app function. I tried recompiling, checked the dependencies individually, etc., but nothing worked.
Then, I carefully scanned the AUR package list again and noticed that the package I had compiled, "pan-git," was not the only AUR package listed for Pan. I uninstalled pan-git then built and installed the correct pan-gtk3, which also gave me a functioning Pan v. 0.135, but this one doesn't constantly segfault--yay!
Maybe I missed something in the documentation that explains why package pan-git exists, but for now, it's confusing to anyone wanting to build a functioning instance of Pan on their system.
The package that actually compiled to a properly functioning application is this one, pan-gtk3:
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=50009
thanks-git packages may be providing a more up to date software as it uses git instead of formal releases as the source.
I can't access AUR atm, I'll have a look later. Fixed itself.
Edit: You can just check the PKGBUILDS and see the differences
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=43523
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=31228 includes "Temporary bugfix version by K. Haley. With nzb gui patch by Heinrich Mueller." - as mentioned in the description
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=43523 - uses gtk2

Urgent need for Adding Comments
Hai,
I have to add a comment before the root node dynamically.
I am adding a comment dynamically by using the following code.
//Getting the docuement.
DocumentBuilderFactory dbf = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance();
DocumentBuilder db = dbf.newDocumentBuilder();
Document doc = db.parse("cd.xml");
//Getting the root element
Element rootElement = doc.getDocumentElement();
//creating the comment.
Comment comment = doc.createComment("A Document Comment");
//Adding comment before the root element.
rootElement.getParentNode().insertBefore(comment,rootElement);
//Transforming in to the xml file.
DOMSource ds = new DOMSource(rootElement);
StreamResult sr = new StreamResult(new java.io.File("cd.xml"));
TransformerFactory tFactory = TransformerFactory.newInstance();
Transformer trans = tFactory.newTransformer();
trans.transform(ds,sr);
Program is compiling and running sucessfully. But it is not getting added into the result XML File.Document doc = db.parse("cd.xml");
//Getting the root element
Element rootElement = doc.getDocumentElement();
//Transforming in to the xml file.
DOMSource ds = new DOMSource(rootElement);...
trans.transform(ds,sr);The node you are using as parameter of the DOMSource constructor is the rootElement. The comment you insert before that element is, of course, before the rootElement object, so the DOMSource object should be created with the comment node as the constructor's input parameter. -
Adding a link to all your pages without doing it one-by-one
Probably a simple thing for those who do it all the time - but I have a site with about 30 pages, and each page has numbered links to all the other pages (1-32 now). Every time I add a new page, I have to make sure it's added to all the other 32 pages. How can I do this without doing it one by one?
This is closing the barn door after all the horses have left...
When you built your site, you should have used Server-side Includes or Dreamweaver Templates. But since you didn't, you'll need to retrofit your site now with server-side include statements or Library Items. It may take you an afternoon to set all this up on 30 pages but, going forward, managing site wide menus will be much easier.

Modify the default framework page
Hi all,
I need to create a new portal framework page. This needs to differ from the Default framework page only in the KM navigation links. I have a different KM folder to point to in the new framework page.
I tried creating a separate page with my KM navigation iview and adding it to the desktop inner page. But this didnt help, because i now have the new KM links, that I added to the navigation panel of the desktop inner page + the old links in the content area( that is what I think) .Anyway both the KM links are now visible side-by-side.
Can someone tell me how to modify only the KM navigation links in the default framework page?
-Ashwini.Hi Ashwini,
So as per your reply I guess you already have an iView ready which you want to place on the navigation panel.
Ok, it goes like this:
1. Copy the Default Framework Page from Portal Users -> Standard Portal Users into your own development folder.
2. Open the copied page for editing. Select Desktop Inner Page. And click on Open. In the Page Content you'll find an iView for Dynamic Navigation. Uncheck the visible check box next to it.
3. Add your own developed iView to this Page. You can do this by right-clicking on your iview and then say "Add iview to Page Delta Link". Make this newly added iView Visible and fixed.
4. To make sure it appears correctly, click on the Page Layout radio button and see that the iviews are arranged correctly. If required you can drag and place them wherever you wish.
5. Now, you need to make a desktop which consists of a Framework + theme. To do this go to System Admin -> Portal Display.
While your desktop is in edit mode. Right Click on your framework which you edited and Say "Add framework to Desktop". Down below you will find a themes folder. Add any theme in the same fashion to your desktop.
Next go to Portal Administrators -> Super Administrators -> Master Rule collection.
Here you have to put you rule. Its self explanotory.
But make sure you do this correctly.
That does it.
Please let me know if I answered your question. -
Cannot retrieve aur packages installed with yaourt
I accidently deleted /var/lib/pacman folder while attempting to solve my update issues (updating system after a long time) . I restored my local pacman database with the excellent guide in the wiki using /var/log/pacman.log http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pac … l_database. I was able to update and restore my system. However, yaourt is not listing my installed aur packages. I re-installed yaourt and tried packer as well but it is not able to find the aur packages I installed using yaourt earlier to my update ( It is able to install and list new aur packages) . I can run the old aur packages but I am not able to remove or list them. How can I list these lost aur packages or remove them completely? Is there a way to retrieve the database for aur packages installed with yaourt?
Thanks.Hi karol,
Thanks for your response.
Executing pacman -Qm only lists aur packages which were installed after I accidently deleted /var/lib/pacman. I am not able to list those aur packages that I installed with yaourt prior to my /var/lib/pacman deletion. I am not sure how the accidental deletion and this issue is related, but I would like to delete these old aur packages. One example of such an aur package installed through yaourt (prior to blunder of /var/lib/pacman deletion ) was chromium-browser. I am able to run chromium-browser, but since this package is very old I would like to remove it. However, neither pacman nor yaourt is able to remove it.

Chromium-browser is just one of the packages I remember having installed using yaourt prior to the /var/lib/pacman deletion. I would like to know if there is a way to find all such aur packages installed through yaourt prior to /var/lib/pacman deletion and if possible, delete them.
Thanks.
