ADDING CONTACTS TO ADDRESS BOOK SERVER!!!!!!!!!

Can someone please help me figure out how to add contacts to the address book server. I tried to drag my contacts but it doesn't work. There is no "+" button for me to add new contacts. I've been trying for a couple days and nothing. Thank you in advance!

Try Googling create group in address book -- or something similar!
In Address Book there is a + sign at the bottom of the window. Select the root folder of the server account in the Address Book client, and click the + to create a group, then type its name if you don't want it to be called 'new group'.

  • Cant add new contacts to Address Book Server

I would like to have a Global Address Book Server where all the user can add/delete contacts. I have done all the setups but in the iMacs (the users) I can see the Address Book Server but NOT the + button to add a new contact. Why ?
In the group name, together to "Address Book Server" there is not any error icon so I understand the client-server connection is well done.
Can someone tell me what should I check ?
    Thank you in advanced

I was look ing at this last night. I think there's an 'add new contacts to' type pop-up somewhere in the client account settings. That might be it.

  • Automatically adding contacts to Address Book with Mail?

    Hello all,
This is my first post in the Apple Discussion forum, but I'm a happy Mac owner since July 2007. Here's a question I have; I searched to see if a similar topic appeared in previous discussions, but none turned up.
In Microsoft Outlook (on my work PC), I can set it up so that anytime I reply to an e-mail address from somebody new, the contact is automatically added to my address book. Is there a way to set that up with Mail and/or Address Book?
I was going through Address Book and noticed some VERY old contacts, but I know for some of them, I have more recent e-mail address. I hope I don't have to manually add all of them!
Thanks in advance for your help!
    All the best,
    MARK

Hi Mark, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Sadly, I don't know how to do it for received Mail, but ones you've sent to can be done in Mail. Select Window Menu item>Previous Recipients, press Command-A when the new window appears, and then click Add to Address Book, then in Address Book>Card Menu Item, select look for Duplicates.

  • Adding contacts to address book

    Hi
how can i add contacts to personal as well as system address book using SOAP API.

You can't add contacts to the system address book
using the SOAP API. You can use the Admin API for that.
You can use createItemRequest or addItemRequest to
add contacts to a personal address book.

  • Adding contacts to address book from old phone

How do I transfer all my contacts information to my new phone   IPhone from Samsung Eternity?  All from AT&T

You export your contacts from your Samsung phone (talk to AT&T if you don't know how) to a program on your computer like Outlook (Windows) or Address Book (Mac) and then synch your iPhone to your computer using iTunes.

Encountering exactly the same issue here on the Snow Leopard Server and clients I set up at our office. When joining an iChat contact to a Contacts stored in an Address Book Server card a (slightly incomplete) copy of the Address Book Server card is created in the “On My Mac” location and it’s this new local card that iChat connects to.
I don’t want these duplicate cards in my Address Book. The ones stored on the Address Book Server should be enough.
This whole local vs server card access issue seems… unfinished (and at a lower API level, if indeed FaceTime exhibits the same issue). Is there a solution to keep these cards on the Address Book Server but still reference them in iChat, without ending up with a duplicate local copy of the cards? Do I need to log this in Radar as a bug?

I have the same issue, and it is quite annoying. It seems as though Apple got the CalDav, CardDav, Push Notification, and iChat servers working just well enough to release, but didn't really get them working well.
I would file a bug with Apple, as I have not found any way of preventing a local copy being made.

  • Syncing contacts between iPhone and Address Book Server

How does one sync contacts from the Address Book Server with the iPhone?
The Apple ad says, "With Address Book, you can even synchronize contacts to your iPhone for accessing your contacts on the go."
    How?

Ugh...I just spent lots of hours over the last several days trying to figure this out and was coming to the conclusion that it could be that it really doesn't work as advertising. It seems confirmed now.
A bit disappointing that it seems like it would be better to run an Exchange server instead of Snow Leopard server....
I have MobileMe as well, but it doesn't seem like I can get SL Server --> Mac Addressbook.app --> MobileMe --> iPhone... but I'll give it a few tries.

  • 10.6.2 breaks syncing address book server contacts on iPhone?

I had this working, then I think it broke what I updated to 10.6.2.
Snow Leopard Server with Address Book Server. My 10.6.2 client can successfully connect to and sync contacts that are on the server. No problem. When I go to sync my iPhone, only the contacts that are stored locally on my machine sync, not the contacts on the server.
As I said, this was working, then one day it wasn't. I was able to sync the contacts that are stored on the server to my iPhone via iTunes. "All Contacts" is still checked, nothing changed other than 10.6.2 update.
Can anyone else verify this? Are you doing this? Is it working for you in 10.6.1? 10.6.2? Thanks in advance. (And yes, I have posted this in the SLS forum, but this isn't a server connectivity/behavior issue, it's between the iPhone and iTunes and Address Book.)

Apple says that if it used to work for me, as is described in the materials on the website which is the way it is supposed to work, that it was actually the unexpected behavior. Hm.
They did say to wait for an iPhone update which will allow the iPhone to talk directly to Address Book Server. For now, I should make a local group, copy the contacts from the server into that local group, and sync them that way. Kind of defeats the whole purpose of a central contacts server. Oh well. Here's hoping.

  • Upload iphone contact address to at&t address book server

I have voyaged the web (at&t which is always useless) in search of a possible workaround. I know at&t has no intention on addressing this. It might be considered a too helpful customer service feature and attract new business or retain current business.
This question is opposite of newbies "how do I transfer TO my phone".
I actually see a serious feature need to upload my contact data to the (empty) address book created on the At&t address book server.
Any non-Iphone has the ability as its used in similar fashion as the itunes backup of your contacts.
However, this database also provides the opportunity to receive your phone bill-listed as contact names, replacing the phone number.
As a business user with may incoming calls, I see a real benefit in being able to recall data on the previous months bill (which would be a call record now) to find the date, time of the conversation.
As I indicted, At&t has no interest (in basically flipping the on-switch) to allow me to upload. **boy some companies pay top dollar for your contact lists and I can't give mine for free to At&t.
Anybody know of a hack program which will identify itself to the online software upload program of the At&t server which will allow me to send my list.
Any attempt to try this as a "normal" method will result in rejection because of their uploader program. Even after the requirement of setting up an account from your normal billing area.

I have exactly the same problem. And my country (Chile) does not show up in the country list. I think this is the reason why the addresses do not show in iPhone. I suppose your country is Uruguay, so you have the same issue.
This is ridiculous. For Apple there are only 3 countries in Latam, but they lounched iPhone all over the place!!
Please post a report in http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html
Maybe they hear us and correct this issue. It should be so simple.

  • Adding notes to Mutliple Contacts in Address Book

Does anyone know how to add a note to multiple contacts in address book? For example I have a list of people I sent holiday cards to and would like to add a note "Holiday Card 2005" to each contact. I do not want to create a "Group".
    Thanks!
    iMac G4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

There's currently no way to do this within the application, but Address Book's applescript support should make this possible. You can select a number of records, and have a script operate on the people within the selection.

  • How do I add an Address Book Server account to iPhone 3G iOS 3.1.3

    Heya,
I have an iPhone 3G that is running version 3.1.3 of the iPhone OS and I need to add an Address Book Server account (that is being run on Snow Leopard Server to the phone but the only option I have is LDAP. My understanding is that Address Book Server uses CardDAV not LDAP. So I went ahead and added the account by choosing "Settings" -> "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" -> "Add Account..." ->"Other" -> "Contacts - Add LDAP Account" and entered my servers information. After selecting "Next" it prompts me with the following message:
"Cannot Connect Using SSL - Do you want to try setting up the account without SSL?"
I choose "Continue" -> the message disappears and I choose "Save" -> then I'm prompted with this message:
"This account may not be able to search contacts. Are you sure you want to save?"
I choose "Save" and it appears to add it. To verify I exit "Settings" and go to "Address Book" and none of my contacts appear. I even let it sit for an hour on a WiFi connection without any luck. Can someone help?
    Thanks!

  • Allow user to edit their own Address Book server entry

    Hiya.
I'm looking for a way to let users edit their own information in the Address Book Server/Open directory. I've made sure the main group for users is in the AB Read-Write Groups group in WGM.
I've even checked the box in Server Admin that says "Allow users to edit their own contact information", but after adding the account to an address book client and authenticating as a user (For example, myself), I can't edit my own contact info anywhere that will push to the server.
Is there any way to do this?
    Thanks!

You'd need to write a php script or something to interface with applescript…

  • Public Folders with Contacts vs Address Book

Which is the better approach: public folders with contacts or setting up an address book?
I want to set up some sort of address book to hold details of some of our major clients. Rather than each person maintaining his/her own address list the plan is for everyone to maintain a single list. As soon as we deal with a "new" contact at
one of our clients that person's details go into the central list and we all benefit.
In the past we've used public folders. However, it seems to me that they are quite a hassle with OWA so i was wondering why we don't simply create a new address book with:
New-AddressList -Name "MyCo – Customers" -RecipientFilter "(CustomAttribute1 -eq 'MyCo') -and (ObjectClass -eq 'Group')" -RecipientContainer "ad.ilbs.co/Habitats/myco"
    or should I use New-OfflineAddressBook -Name ...
Our team run a variety of systems (Windows and Mac) and a variety of phones (mostly IOS and Android)
    Roger

    Hi Roger,
According to your description, you want to share the contact which is created by each client users in OWA and Outlook to all other domain users for contact sharing. Is it right?
If that is the case, the Public Folder is an option to achieve this as you mentioned. For address list in server side, only the administrators who have related permission to Exchange server can create an address list in Exchange server generally.
For client users, they can’t create the address list for all other users using, though the contact folder permission is set to reviewer for all other users.
If you are using Public Folder contact (default folder permission set to Author), each user can create contacts in this folder and the contact can be visible for all users. Then the client user can do the following settings in Outlook to
manually add the Public Contact to address book:
    1. In Outlook, open Public Folder.
    2. Right-click Public Contact folder, select Properties.
    3. In Outlook Address Book tab, check Show this folder as an e-mail Address Book.
    4. Click OK to save the setting.
Then the Public Contact folder should be added in the Address Book.

  • Problems syncing from contacts to address book

I have an iMac which now runs OSX 10.6.8 and an iPhone 3GS that runs the latest iOS 5.
Long story short, I downgraded from OSX Lion back to OSX 10.6.8 a few months ago.  Got quite a few problems doing so...  ended up creating a brand new user and transferring music, videos and photos manually.  Then, the iOS 5 got out and I upgraded my phone right away.  I couldn't figure out icloud at first but understood yesterday that it works only with Lion.  I thought I'd keep it on my phone if I ever want to install Lion again.
I also realised that I never transfered back in my iMac all my iCal events and Contacts.
So yesterday, I tryied to sync my Contacts, iCal and Notes from my iPhone to my iMac.  In the iTune info tab, under each section, there was a message mentioning that since I use iCloud, I don't need to sync my info through iTune and doing so would possibly create duplicates.  I try to sync them anyway since I only had to in Address Book.  I got the message to merge or replace.  I selected merge (yes I had at least one contact in Address Book).  Nothing happened...  iCal didn't merge anything and neither Address Book.  I tried to create new events in my phone and iMac and these were syncing but not the original ones.  Also added a contact in Address Book and it got sync with my phone.  I didn't try creating one on the phone to sync it through but assumed that it was working.
After going through a few discussion threads, I decided to delete the iCloud account on my phone since I didn't need it and try re-syncing.  The iCloud message in the iTune's info tab was gone so I thought everything would be good and I could select merge my contact again without any problem.  I was wrong...  I lost all my contacts...  I freeeeeeeeaked out !!  Thank God I didn't unplug the phone and restored it right away to get everything back.
I tried it again this afternoon but only tried to sync iCal.  I didn't get to choose between merge and replace and the same thing happened again...  lost everything...  iCal but also Contacts which I find strange because I didn't check the Contact option in iTune....   I got everything restored back even thought it's always scary to try things like this....  So for now on, I don't delete my iCloud info on my Phone and do not sync any other info.  I'm actually scared to plug it in and always double check that my contacts are all there before unplugging.
So here I am...  don't really know what to do...  I read stuff about removing apple.isync files or something...  or other options but they never quite answer my problem...
There is still the option to type all my contacts back in Address Book..  I don't have that many... but it's a pain...
Sorry about the long message here
Thanks for your help and for your time.
    Ben

Clearly iSync has got confused about what new data it needs to pull from the phone. Usually resetting the sync history solves this, but as it hasn't for you... try this:
I would suggest sending all the contacts from the phone to the Mac manually via Bluetooth: *Contacts > Options > More > Advanced > Send all Contacts > Via Bluetooth* (or similar, depending on the exact phone model)
This will send vCard(s) which can be imported into the Mac Address Book simply by double-clicking the file that arrives on your Mac.
Merge or remove any duplicates as they are imported. You can also use the *Card > Look for Duplicates* command in Address Book.
Once all your Contacts are exactly as you want them in Address Book do a full backup of them:
*File > Export > Address Book archive...*
Finally, load iSync, click your phones icon and choose *Reset Device...* from the Devices menu.
This will force iSync to remove all the existing contacts from the phone and completely replace them with all the new nicely sorted out ones from the Mac Address Book.
From this point on, iSync should keep track of what needs updating on each subsequent sync.
