Adding & Copying Formulas Please help

Hi
I am trying to put a formula in a cell and then use that same formula in a different cell without having to retype in the formula using the different cell block numbers and letters. Example
I have this formula
=D4+E4-F4
and I want to copy it down to the other cells without retyping it
=D6+E6-F6
=D8+E8-F8
and so on...
Please help I know it can be done.

Select the cell, copy, select the destination(s), paste. That is one of several ways to copy cells/formulas. Another way is to select the cell and drag down on the circle in the lower right of the selection box. However, it looks like you are only copying your formula to even numbered rows so that second method won't work for you.

I have been setting up prices for a new business in the latest version of numbers. I was having no luck on iCloud making a formula that linked sheets by clicking cells I had to put each one in individually. I then downloaded it to my macbook and got that to work (any help there would be great but not essential) I managed to do my formulas fine once it was on my hard drive but there is one formula which is a combination of 2 sheets. The formula works fine which is in sheet 2. However, in sheet 1 everything is A-Z and if the formula for example is regarding cel B2, if i insert a new row and that cell then becomes C2 my formula is messed up. I have tried using the preserve tick boxes and manually insert the $ but it is not locking it. I want the cell to know that if I move cell B2 anywhere it still keeps that information.
Here is the actual formula
=SUM($Price $'Sugar)'÷$Price Per $'Sugar')×$B$6
Price = cell B2 in Sheet 1
Price per = B2 in sheet 2
I have tried with and without $
Please help I am trying to get a business plan together and the last thing I want is to change something without realising it has altered the formula.

It would be clearer if you turned off "Use header names as labels". Even so each cell needs a column and a row designation.
Price = cell B2 in Sheet 1, Price per = B2 in sheet 2
These statements cannot be true.
That said, there are some things that are clear.
If you are dividing one value by another you do not need the SUM() function. As far as I can tell you are not adding anything.
There is an extra ")" in your formula.
Whats with the quotes around 'Sugar'?
What does your formula look like without the "Use header names as labels" checked?

Formula Variables for Report Painter- Syntac error in formula, Please Help!

Dear Experts,
I'm creating the report where I need to calculate annualized P&L. The formula is as follows : (P&L account/Period(variable ))12*
I need to capture the From_period, which is entered by the user on the selection screen when running the report and use it as a variable in the formula above. Example: If User insert From Period 3, then the formula should be *P&L accoun / 3 * 12*
I have tried so many different way but nothing seems to work. one of the ways i tried was:
In the general selection Im using set variable 6P-S-PERIOVB.CCSS for period which consists of variable V_PERIO and B_PERIO.
So Im trying to create a folowing formula:

Thank you all for your help. The issue was that the variable was assigned to the different table as the library. After I changed it, it worked fine.

Im wondering if anyone can help me. I recently got a reply to a post that I wrote about deleting duplicated files. Mainly MP3s. I have not done this method yet though. Does it work? I have around 9000 mp3s that Itunes seems to always duplicate and I need to get rid of them. Can I open one of my ex-Harddrives that pretty much hold mp3s and run this command? Im looking for a completely faster method than individually deleting them in Itunes. One last question too. Where do I type this command? How do I access the directorys where my mp3s are in my ex-HD? If anyone can help me Id greatly appreciate it. The reply is below my name

If none of the original filenames contains the lettering " copy", you can do what you want quite easily.
Open Terminal, navigate to the folder that contains the files, and enter the following command (exactly as it appears here):
rm *" copy"*
That's all there is to it. All 9000 duplicate files will be removed very quickly.
If you need help "navigating to the folder" or if some of your original filenames contain the lettering “ copy”, then post back here.

Launch Terminal.app
Type cd followed by a space. Do not hit return key just yet.
In Finder, navigate to folder containing the files you want to blow away.
Drag and drop that folder (in the finder) into the Terminal.app window. It'll autofill the path to the directory containing the files you're wanting to blow away. Now hit the return key.
You could type ls (that's a lower-case ell) and see the directory listing of all the files in your current directory. Probably a good idea to do just to doublecheck that you really are in the directory that you want to blow away all these files from.
Now do what Greg said.
Don't get impatient because Terminal is just sitting there and you're not getting an immediate command prompt. It'll take a while to blow away 9000 files.
For entertainment, instead of rm *" copy"* use rm -v *" copy"* so you can watch all 9000 file names be printed in your terminal window as they are being deleted.
Will it work? Oh yes .... irreversibly (if it doesn't, that's coz' there are some file ownership and/or file permission issues that need to be looked at, but assuming those are "compatible" with your current Terminal user environment, those guys'll be toast. Any file that's in the working directory where you are in Terminal that has the five characters " copy" in its filename will be history.
The assumption in Greg's command is that all the files you want to blow away all reside in the one directory that you have navigated to.

Copying database please help graduation project

i am doing my graduation project as computer science student i am doing visual basic for interface and oracle express as a database i have made the tables and everything but i need to copy the whole database to my friend's computers so they can help me inserting the data into the tables so i need basicly to transfer the database to my friend's computer can you help me doing that step by step i'm not that much in Oracle i know only selecting,updating and creating tables
and if you please tell me if there is a way to make auto backup for the database just like the database by itself will do an automatic backup for itself every just like 1 week
if there is a way can you plz provide me with it
if there is no automatic way can you please provide me with the manual way of backing up the database.

It helps to specify which version of the database you're using, and the operating system on the computer, and whether 32 or 64 bit. Do this for each end (your computer and your friend's computer). It sometimes helps if you describe a bit about the hardware (eg the amount of memory).
Examples of the first: 8.1.7, 9.0.1.4.0, 9.2.0.8, 10.2.0.3 (and more). I'm not familiar with Db Express, but I assume there's various versions of that as well.
Examples of the second: Windows XP (I pray not), Linux, Free BSD, Max OS X 10.4. Please be as specific as possible: Is your Linux Ubuntu, Red Hat Enterprise, or something else?. What version? What's the output of <tt>uname -a</tt>, or <tt>uname -r</tt>.
You might also give your (first) name, just to be polite.

Optional: install sqlplus on your friends' computers and use SSH to tunnel the connections across.
auto backup for the databaseMy method is a little unsophisticated, but it works for small databases. Shut down the database (if paranoid, a cycle of <tt>shutdown immediate</tt>, <tt>startup restrict</tt>, <tt>shutdown</tt>), then backup the *.dbf, *.ctl, *.ora (datafiles, control files, and {noformat}[sp]{noformat} parameter files). Whether auto or manual is simply a function of whether you type the commands manually, or get the system to run a script at a regular hour, and you have to burn it to a CD or tape, and have that off-site for complete safety. Or you can back it up over the internet.
If you need further help with remote connections or backup, I'd seek out forums for those particular activities - it's a bit off-topic here.

Cannot Connect to iTunes OR Download New Copy. Please Help!

I was trying to update my account information earlier today when I noticed I couldn't log into my account info or the iTunes store. I figured it was a temporary problem, but no luck as of a moment ago. I get an error message saying the session timed out and I should check my connection. Well, my connection is fine on Safari and Firefox, so I figured I'd simply reinstall iTunes from a freshly downloaded copy.... except I can't download iTunes either! I tried using both Safari and Firefox several times, reset my computer, reset Safari (in the vain hope it might be that simple). Still no go.
Is anybody else having a problem like this - or does anybody have a potential solution? I am running no antivirus, and no firewalls beyond what is packaged with OS X. Thanks for your help in advance.

Hi - I'm having exactly the same issue. All other internet apps are running fine, but iTunes store is giving the message that you're getting. I've gone through the troubleshooting support website with no results, so have the feeling it's not my computer but an issue with the store itself. I was able to purchase a song late last night, so it's only a recent thing for me, and I haven't changed any settings since then, so I can't think what else it could be.
I guess we just need to wait and see... Good luck!

Adding a timer Please help (Huge Duke dolla reward!)

I am trying to make a timer for my game class so that after 3 seconds if you dont click anything you lose the game.
I have been trying to figure this out for days
This prolly can be done by starting the timer here and saying if timer reaces 3 seconds game ends, and that everytime you click a button timer restarts.
Please I need help how do I do this?

Well, I don't know because I've never used the Swing timer, and I'm not sure what game you're trying to write. You say "Simon Says" but it sounds more like that old electronic game Simon, or maybe both or maybe neither.
But let's assume that it's like the old electronic game Simon. The point of the game is to press the same buttons that the game lighted up, in the same order. Let's assume the delay you want is the time between button presses or the last light lighting.
The way I'd do it is:
First, create a gameplay object that has as state a sequence to follow, and 4 buttons, and a "last time" number, representing the number of milliseconds since epoch.
When the game is started...
The last time value is set to infinity, or a time far in the future anyway.
Then a TimerTask is created, and scheduled to every tenth of a second. It gets the current time, then if the current time minus the "last time" is over some threshhold value, it ends the game.
LOOP: a sequence is created, one longer than the previous sequence. It's a sequence of buttons.
The sequence is played.
The "last time" value is set to the current time.
Each button press triggers a method. The method first checks to make certain that it represents the next number in the sequence. (One way to do this by the way is to represent the sequence with a queue, and remove the first item from the queue, and compare with the button. If they don't match, the game ends; and when the queue is empty, it's time to loop back up to the LOOP label above.) After it checks the next number in the sequence, it sets "last time" to the current time.
End loop.
That's it.
So in this scenario, the timer task doesn't get scheduled for the length of the timeout. Instead it gets scheduled for a fraction of the timeout length, and when it's called it checks to see if the timeout has passed. You'd create this when you start the game.

I'm trying to add invitees to an event. When I type their name/email address ical goes wild. I type "m" and iCal changes the letter to something else. I try to keep typing. I type "Matt" and iCal gives me the following (over four separate tries):

This is so annoying. I've never seen something like this before. And I know that my contact "Matthew" is in my address book and in the list of contacts in iCal because sometimes I'm lucky enough to see the contact in the list and I can select it with my mouse, but I can't type the address in, even if I know every character. iCal changes the characters as I type them. It's crazy.
I read on a forum that I could use altcommanda to bring up my contacts and select from there. Well, I get the contact dialogue but none of my contacts are in there. What on earth is going on here? Help appreciated.
BTW, when I enter an address or contact in an event I get a yellow exclamation mark beside them. What's that? Thanks.

NOW I have to change it around for the second formula and this is where I am lost cause it has logarithms....This formula goes like this N= ln P/C - ln (P/C-r) / ln(1+r) Where N is the number of monthly payments, C is the sum of actual amount borrowed which is given and r is APR, and P is the monthly payment and ln is the natural logarithm. SO in this formula I have to calculate the NUMBER of payments given the other input.... This project is just a simple command line format so the user just types in the inputs. ALSO there needs to be a command to end the session and the program needs to handle incorrect input too!!

Oh man sorry..what I mean to say is that yes it is a command line type program (no menus) and its going to be in the following format: you type 1 for calculating monthly payments, type 2 for #of payments, and then type 0 to quit. I was able copy the hardrive of my old macbook from "My Passport" onto the desktop on an older iMac. but i dont know how to make my hardrive and user name be the main one since someone had used it in the past and had their info on the comp. please help!

I recently broke my 2008 macbook. i was able to use an external hardrive to back up my data onto My Passport. I was going to buy a new computer but a friend told me sher had an older version of the iMac. (not sure how old but it doesnt have a camera if that helps) i was able to hook it up and turn it on but i ran into a few problems. 1) the "authentic" user or whatever it says is someone who previously used the computer. i added me as a user but im not sure how to make me the main user. 2) after hooking up My Passport, i was able to drag my files and copy them to the desktop.(i think i did it correctly) now, i dont know how to make my hard drive and applications and iformation the "main " info. The current apps on the iMac are super old versions of iTunes and iPhoto and such. 3) while trying to open the apps from my macbook on the iMac, it said it didnt have the right software to open these apps.
I am so computer illiterate so someone please help!!! Also, i do not have internet in my new apartment yet so if there is a way to make this happen without using the internet that would be preferred. sorry for the horrible spelling and poorly written paragraph.

You are not going to be able to run your old system from the backup on this old computer as the hardware is incompatible.
You need to get a new computer or a refurbished one.

HT2905 I have lost all my play lists from my itumes library, and all of a sudden i have 2/3/4 duplicates of the same song. when i look at when they were added it says all added on 11th March 2013! i added most of them years ago. please help?!!

All my plat list have vanished, and all of my library has been duplicated and triplicated and some have 4 copies. i looked to try and delete the copied ones and tried to delete by putting on when they had been added. the date came up 11th march 2013 for ALL of the songs!. my library is at least 4 years old, and i constantly add songs. so why would it come up that date? and why have all my play list dissapeared?(I think also on that date) please help?

Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. Note that in iTunes 11 an "empty" library may show your past purchases with links to stream or download them.
In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
Alternatively, depending on exactly when and why the library went missing, there may be a more recent .tmp file in the main iTunes folder that can be renamed as iTunes Library.itl to restore the library to a recent state.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.
I've noticed more of these missing library posts of late and a common factor since I started asking is AVG Anti-Virus. It seems it might be at least part of the reason why the library file disappears. Try excluding the iTunes folder from any real-time scanning process.
Reverting to an earlier version of your library may clean up the duplicates issue along with restoring the original date added values. If you still have real duplicates I have a tool that might be able to help...

Can iOS Numbers copy formulas when adding new rows?

iOS Numbers table add row is not copying previous cell formulas. Is this supported or not?
I have a table with lots of columns and all of them have formulas. When I click at the lower left of the table to add a row, none of the new cells have the formulas. I have to manually go through every column and copy the formulas to the new row.
This is not very practical if you're planning to use Numbers on the go with an iPad. In my case, I have to quickly get a new row ready as needed. I was hoping there is a preference setting somewhere like "copy formulas when adding new row".

I had the same issue with the added twist that I wanted to reference the created cells in formulas in other sheets. This is what works for me:
I use a form to enter data. The referenced sheet is set up like this:
1     Name     Date     ServPayment    SalesPayment     Total
2     Week1                                                                 =sum (ServPayment,SalesPayment)
3                                                                                =sum (ServPayment,SalesPayment)
4     TotWeek1                                                            =sum (Total2,Total3)
"Total" sums the 2 Payments, TotWeek1 sums the totals.
In the entry form I never add data to the empty line. In this example, I would start at "Week1" and tap the "+" to add a new form. This creates the line in the referenced sheet with my formulas. As I continue, I always start at the last entry I have made and tap "+".
When I create a line that does not have the formula on either side, I do not get the formula.

(If there's a SpeedBit LSP showing up in Autoruns, it's usually best to just uninstall your SpeedBit Video Accelerator.)
