Adding digital IDs

I have just upgraded to Acrobat Standard v8.0. Until now I have been running Acrobat v4.0
I have been attempting to add digital IDs created in v4.0 using the .apf profiles generated by that version. However I am receiving the following error message:
Could not open digital ID file with password provided. Try again.
I have confirmed that I am using the correct passwords by running v4.0 and logging in under self-sign signatures using the appropriate passwords.
Can anybody offer any advice?
Thanks
Mike

What I found that worked is to enter the password, press the TAB key (don't click finish), re-enter the password  AND THEN click finish.  What appears to be happening is that the confirmation password box never appears. By hitting the tab key you are going into that invisible field and confirming the password. This has now worked for me on several documents.

  • Configuring a Directory Server for Digital IDs and Certificates

My company is moving toward using electronic signatures for internal documents. All of the users are on XP machines and have Acrobat Professional 8.0 installed. So far, I've been manually adding trusted IDs for each person who will be receiving signed documents that need to be validated. I'd like to make this a little easier by storing everyone's certificates on a server (Windows 2003) so that people can just go out there and add them all as one .fdf file. What I'm wondering is, what is the difference between doing it this way versus going through Acrobat and configuring a directory server? Will it work either way?
    Thanks!

I can't get the digital booklet to show up in iTunes with the album.  I found it in the recently added tab, added the metadata, yet it still doesn't show up with the album.  Help

Your re-added digital booklet probably ended up in the Books section of your library. Get Info., change the media kind to Music and add in the album & artist details.

  • Acrobat slow opening files with Digital IDs

hi!  I was hoping others were having this issue.  I have a client that has over a dozen Digital ID Signatures stored on our network drive.
When she tries to open a file with multiple Digital ID Signatures, Acrobat takes forever verifying the Signatures.  I can disable the security end, but that's not an option because of the people we are sending these files to.
Is there anyway to speed up the performance?  Or will they just have to accept it?
    Thanks for everyone's time.
    Alvin

    Hi Alvin,
Sadly, there's not a whole lot that can be done to mitigate the problem. Even without a lot of digital IDs installed on the system any time you open a file with that many signatures it takes a long time to validate. Part of the problem is a design flaw where signature 1 gets validated, then when Acrobat moves onto signature 2 it validates signature 1 again because each signature creates a roll-back version of the PDF (View Signed Version) and each rollback version is validated independently. When you extrapolate that out to 20 signatures you can see how much signature validation is going on. We are working on streamlining this process for future versions of Acrobat, but for now it's a liability that you can't get around.
The number of digital IDs is a separate issue where Acrobat does all of the chain building at the front end (it's no longer on app open like it used to be, but as soon as Acrobat has to iterate the list of digital IDs). You don't have to open a signed file to trigger this, but that is one of the triggers. Acrobat has to test each signature to see if it has access to the private key in order to allow the user to clear the signature. It's access to the private key in the digital ID that enables the "Clear signature" menu item.
    Sorry for the bad news,

  • Using digital IDs/SMIME on the iPhone3G

    Hi all,
Has anyone tried loading/using a digital ID on the iPhone?
Our corporate policy is for all messages to be digitally signed when being sent and I want to know if this works out of the box or not.
Any confirmation or suggestions would be greatly appreciloved.

I tried using digital IDs for authentication via SSL mutual authentication in Safari and it did not work.
    I haven't tried S/MIME or digital signatures.

  • Digital ids created with acrobat- forgot password

If I created a digital ID in Acrobat Professional, and forgot my password, how can I create a new one?  It won't let me remove an ID without the password.  I can create new IDs, but they all require the original password.  Help!

    Hi,
Select the Advanced > Security Settings menu item
Select Digital IDs from the tree view on the left side of the Security Settings dialog
There is a list of one or more digital IDs on the right side of the dialog. There is also a column that's labeled "Storage Mechanism". What does it say under Storage Mechanism for the digital ID you want to remove?

  • Hide Windows Digital IDs

I want to hide all Digital IDs in Adobe Reader 11 that come from the Windows Certificate Store. The users should only be able to use Digital IDs created with Adobe Reader.
Is there an option to exclude Windows IDs? I know that I can delete them from the Windows Certificate Store, but this does not help because I need them for other purposes.
    Thank you for your help!

  • Installing non-self signed software Digital IDs

    Hi all,
to the best of my knowledge Acrobat allows installation of digital IDs either in software format (PKCS#12 keystores) or in hardware format (PKCS#11 HSMs). As far as the former is concerned, only self-signed certificates are allowed (PKCS#12 dows not support trustStore certificate attribute). My business case is that Digital IDs are formulated as non-self signed certificates delivered in JKS keystore. Unfortunately currently Acrobat forbids the installation of these IDs.
Does anyone know if this is going to change in the future?
    Thank you in advance,
    Regards,
       Paul.

    Hi Dom,
If you enable FIPS mode in Acrobat or Reader, then the ability to create a self-signed digital ID is disabled. You want to set the following registry entry (making sure Acrobat or Reader is closed):
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\<version>\AVGeneral
    bFIPSMode=1
    or
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\<version>\AVGeneral
    bFIPSMode=1
This was introduced in version 8.1 so <version> will be either "8.0" or "9.0". Also, this will only works on Windows; the FIPS compliance setting was not implemented on the Mac or Linux platforms.

  • Adding digital signature field with LC Designer vs. LC Digital Signatures

    Hi All,
When digital signature field named "SignatureField1" is added to PDF document using LC Designer it appears as "form1[0].#subform[0].SignatureField1[0]" in Adobe Reader signatures tree.
Same field added by LC Digital Signatures service appears as "SignatureField1" in the same tree.
Why? What is the difference between those objects?
    LC Digital signatures ES2
    Adobe Reader 9.3.0
    Thanks, Yan

    Yan
First off, there is no difference between the two signature field objects.
I'll do my best to explain why there is a difference in how the signature objects are named in the Signature pane of Reader\Acrobat.  When you add the signature field using LC Designer, the object is defined in the underlying XML (XFA) that defines the form.  The  (SOM expression) you see in Reader (via the signature pane) matches the structure of the form.
When you add a signature field to a form using LiveCycle Digital Signatures ES2, you are appending a signature field "on top" of a PDF form (the underlying XML has been rendered into PDF).  The signature field is not defined in the XML, therefore Reader\Acrobat do not display the same naming syntax.
    Does this help?
    Thanks

  • On a PC with separate logins, do I need a separate Digital IDs?

I recently updated the Digital Edition to 2.0.  My wife and I share our home PC with each having our own log in.  I can download and open books on my Kobo.  But, my wife has a problem opening a downloaded book on her Nook.  She gets an ERROR DIALOG on the Nook User not activated. We did not have this problem with the older Digital Edition.  When I look at her Digital Edition "HELP", I cannot view the Digital ID but I can when I look at my Digital Edition.  Does she have separately download a Digital Edition? It worked before?

ADE 2.0 has problems with some ereaders (and with lots of other things).
I suggest you revert to the older and more reliable previous version.
There are lots of bugs in ADE2.0.  Try replacing ADE2.0 with the older but more reliable v1.7.2.
(You can have them both installed at once if you like.)
Version 1.7.2, it is a little difficult to find, available on Adobe site for Windows and for Mac.

  • Adding Digital Signature to XML strings

    Hello All ,
i'm looking for functionality to add digital signature, encoding & decording to XML Payment fiels with encryption as well.i have searched on SDN but i havn't found any solution.
waiting for some useful thoughts on it.
i have see Programs SSF* as well , but it requires PSE settings which i dont want to  use .Is there any others ways to do it ?
    Thanks & Regards
    V.

Yes, you need a certificate to sign.
You need a special one for yourself, one that also contains your private key.
Your message is signed with your private key (actually encrypted with it), after that anyone can see you signed it using your public key.
Encryption works the other way round: You encrypt it with openly available public key of the recipient, but only he will be able to decrypt it with his private key.
BTW you can create your own certificate, using Keychain Access>Certificate Assistant. The disadvantage is that they are not automatically accepted as valid, since they are not listed in the X509Anchors keychain. You have (and whoever you deal with) manually import your (public) certificate into the Keychain X509Anchors as well. Double clicking the certificate gives you the option to do so.

  • Adding Digital Signatures to PDFs

    Hi all,
Sorry if I am posting this question in the wrong location, but hopefully someone who sees this message will still be able to answer or point me in the right direction. I did perform a search and could not find a definitive answer.
There are documents in my company that will be circulated for approval and we would like to apply digital signatures to indicate that certain personnel have reviewed these documents. I have Acrobat 3D version 8.1.5 and I know I have the capability with that version to add digital signatures to a PDF. My question is: Is that true of all versions of Acrobat? If not, can anyone tell me the most recent version of Acrobat that has this capability. I won't necessarily be the one creating the PDFs; thus, the question.
