Adding drive to G5 (I know, done to death already)

I purchased this from Apple with a 500 GB installed. I know decided to add another 500 GB but don't see a way to install in the bay. It looks like the original drive slides in the top bay. The bottom bay looks like it has a place for some sort of runner, for lack of a better word, to slide into. The drive certainly didn't come with them (it is a Barracuda 7200 Sata drive). Is it possible that Apple took out the necessary bracket when they installed the other drive? Or am I missing something simple? I have installed internal drives before and there is always a bracket to install them in the bay. Thanks.
G5 Dual 2.3   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

There are slots for the drive to slide into. First, look to the left of the drive bay. You should see four "screws" in a bracket. Their heads are very large and soft. When you screw them into the drive, they will act as it's guides into the slots. The G5 owners manual should have the procedure as well (and maybe some pics).

  • Yes I know - done to death - USERNAME problem

I have 2 Apple IDs...used to get IPADs when in short supply in Australia and only 2 per ID were allowed, so Iquickly created the second and was able to order 4 IPADs (2 per Account/ID) for family.
My MAIN ID is the one I WANT to use. I am logged in here with my secondary one, because its the only one I CAN use.
When I login using my MAIN account/ID, using CORRECT email address and password it asks me to choose a USERNAME....no matter what I enter (INCLUDING THE USERNAME THAT WAS ORIGINALLY ATTACHED TO THAT APPLE ID) I get the message that a Username for that AppleID and Email already exists and only one can. I simply cannot use the Username I originally created on that Apple ID.
    Infuriating.
I DO NOT WANT TO ABANDON my original Apple ID, it is the one that all my ITUNES/APP Store purchases/Downloads are attached to. But I cant use the USER in these forums...bizzare and completely at odds with the simplicity for which APPLE is known, and which has drawn me to it from the WIN7 world over recent months.
Apple have to fix this, dont they? I read others have had the same issues with USERNAMES now being unavailable to them, wrongly, for a variety of reasons.
Apple SHOP be able to help?

FROM MY SECONDARY AND UNWANTED APPLE USERNAME !!!!

    Hi John
no, two separate and very different email addys used - one thru my local ISP and the other a hotmail one.
Re your first paragraph -exactly correct. My original email and password are (were) fine, but NO Username can be now 'attached' to it  -not my original Username, nor any new one I try.
I CAN MANAGE my original AppleID and assign(ed) a new Password to it (which in turn caused now-solved grief with my Itunes account, my App Store login, my "Find my IPHONE" credentials etc) BUT I CANNOT assign and use ANY Username to it.
So it's a 'dormant' Apple Community "account", but an active APPLE account.
Conversely, I have an active, UNWANTED secondary Apple Community 'account' (which I am using now), that is dormant from an APPLE (Itunes, App Store etc) perspective.

  • My External (Media) Drive is Dying and I Don't Know What to do...?

    Hi All,
I keep all my Music, TV Shows and Movies on an external drive. It's dying. It's a 500 GB drive, but all I have right now are two 250 GB drives. I don't want to lose my play-counts, playlists, ratings and such. (I did copy all my music over to one of the two drives as a safety precaution. My music is my primary concern - media I can always get via DVDs and such, but I consider my music irreplaceable. ) Also, I have an iPod classic, iPhone and iPad that all sync with that library. I'm so confused...
    TIA,
    Jon

    Simple enough to do.
It's a 500 GB drive, but all I have right now are two 250 GB drives.
Need to know how much of each type of media you have in iTunes.
Under library on the left side of iTunes, click Music, Movies, TV shows, etc. and look at the bottom of iTunes window and see how much (size/GB) each one has.
Also, need to know how much free space is on each of the 250GB drives
This will show us what we need to transfer where.
_If everything in iTunes will fit on one of the 250GB drives…_
iTunes prefs -> Advanced, set the iTunes media folder location to one of the 250GB drives.
iTunes menu Files > LIbrary > Organize library > Consolidate.
This will copy everything to the new location and use that location for everything from now on.
All playlists, ratings, playcounts, etc. will remain as they are.
If everything in iTunes will not fit on one of these drives, don't do anything and post back with the sizes.

I want the folders I already backed up to come together into one folder when that year is over. Is there a way to manually do that or automatic through TM?
I'm quite sure there is no "automatic" way to do this. I've never heard of anyone trying it either. I suppose if you wanted try it, you could simply create a new folder in the same partition TM is on, label it for that year, then gather all the days for that year and drag/drop them into the folder. I suspect (but do not know) you'd be risking the continuity of your backups, meaning TM would simply start over again, meaning that next back up would start a new series of backups, with the first one roughly equalling the entire capacity of your internal HD, instead of adding only the new data to the previous backup. Once again, I would recommend against it, unless you're fine with TM starting a new series of backups if it doesn't work out the way you want it to. Hope you'll post back with results so we can learn from it.

Hold down the Option key while you boot your Mac. Then, it should show you a selection of devices. Click your flash drive and it will boot from that.

I have tried and failed to copy my iTunes library and playlists from my Windows 8 desktop to my Windows 7 laptop using an external hard drive. Can it be done? Help would be appreciated. I have followed instructions found online but the library of music doesn't pull in.  Thanks!

Migrate an iTunes library from one computer to another
These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entireiTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one, with ratings, play counts, playlists etc. preserved. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd normally recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library and unlike copying with Windows Explorer the process can be resumed if it is interrupted and it will continue to the next item if there are any read/access errors.
Note if you have iOS devices and haven't moved your contacts and calendar items across then you should create one dummy entry of each in your new profile and iTunes should  merge the existing data from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See Make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library or a backup then then seeRecover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.

  • Adding Drives to a RAID 5

I have a XSERVE RAID with 4 250GB drives configured as a RAID 5. We're starting to get low on space so I'd like to expand the capacity by adding some drives.
Is there a specific number of drives I need to add or can I add 1, 2 or 3 drives as long as they're on the same controller?
      Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    This is incorrect.
The Xserve RAID does not ship with any file system on it whatsoever. It is just disks, set up in a RAID configuration that you specify.
You can format the RAID volume as HFS+ if you connect it to a Mac. You can format it with NTFS if you connect it to a Windows machine. Or ZFS on a Solaris box, etc.
What you CANNOT easily do is grow a volume. Period.
Buy the RAID with 7 drives, or with 14 drives. If you buy a "2 TB" one (what is this -- 4x500 GB drives? Recall that is about 1.3 TB of usable space in RAID 5)... plan on reformatting if you add 3 drives later. Plan on it. I mean it: plan on it. Growing the RAID is complicated and unless you want to set up a concatenated RAID set, it's what you MUST do to grow the volume.
Again, my advice could not be clearer (search back as well, I've stated this many, many times): Buy the RAID with 7 drives, or with 14, and NEVER plan on growing the RAID by adding drives WITHOUT reformatting. Period.

  • Can somebody please advise urgently... I backed up my entire hard-drive of my macbook pro - just prior to installing osx mountain lion. I put everything into a folder on my desktop - then backed it up onto an external drive. Once this was done - i deleted

    Can somebody please advise urgently...
I backed up my entire hard-drive of my macbook pro - just prior to installing osx mountain lion.
I put everything into a folder on my desktop - then backed it up onto an external drive. Once this was done - i deleted the folder off my desktop - and  following this - things started to go all weird...pages hanging, the coloured 'wheel of death' appeared for ages. So i had to employ a 'hard-boot' restart - as i had not other options.
I'm pretty sure i made copies of of files/apps/folders etc - however not so sure now as i cant even start up my laptop!!!
Can somebosy please help me urgently??!!!

Got the exact same problem, and I also did this operation many times before, from 500Gb to 750Gb, and then from 750Gb to 1 Gb. Not My HD got a little such complaining about bad sectors when in windows bootcamp, but still runs fine though.
So I bought a new 1Gb drive exactly same drive as the one thats getting sick. I did the clone thing, with super duper, CCC, DU, but no matter it will not boot when i move the new drive inside the macbook…….**** thing exuse me, but wasted so much time.
Now I get this strange feeling that something must have changed in the macbook itself. Just wondering if this could be a EFI "mac bios" prevention thing, they made just to sell more new computers, when you can't improve or fix your old one.
If so, then its pretty scary. If not then I simply can't figure out why this suddenly becomes a problem for so many people, as I see so many posts about this!!

That link doesn't tell you how to remove the Panoroma Tab Groups!! My main issue with it is that along my tabs at the top I no longer have the tab to open a new tab. Instead I have to click on the tab groups and then open them and click on an open area in the tab to get a new tab opened!! Is there a way to add that? I don't see that when I go to customize the tool bar as there's no icon to add it, just one to open a new window, which I don't want to do!! Thanks!!

  • A year ago I brought a 1 TB hard drive (My Passport), I have not used it for over 4 months and now when I use the USB cord to connect it to my mac, it does not register the hard drive.  Does anyone know why this is happening?

A year ago I brought a 1 TB hard drive (My Passport), I have not used it for over 4 months and now when I use the USB cord to connect it to my mac, it does not register the hard drive.  Does anyone know why this is happening?

The beeps could be caused by something as simple as a loose internal wire or connection.  If it is under warranty (not sure how long that is, as WD drives range from 1 to 5 years depending on the model's series - I think "my passport" drives are 3 years) you could contact WD and ask them about it.
If it is out of warranty, you could also try opening the case and check the connections - the drive may be fine, and there have been posts on TomsHardware forums of people getting the beeps, opening up the case and the drive is fine, just some wire worked loose.

  • 0xc0000135 while adding driver packages to boot image

Hi, I am currently having issues adding driver packages to the boot image.
Currently running Server 2008 R2 and have MDT 2013 installed.
Tried searching for the error but no luck. No matter if I choose the specific driver I want to add or if I just start from the beginning it just constantly fails. Does anybody have any clue as to what could be causing it to not accept either from the boot image
created from MDT Deployment Share or even using a generic boot image?

    Hi,
First make sure you are using the correct version of DISM

  • IE Issues ~ Sorry this is done to death...

    Hello,
The name's Jason. As my subject line says, I'm sorry that this has been done to death, but I'm another iWeb newbie who was gung-ho about posting an immaculate site, only to realize that its perfection in Safari and Firefox was only trumped by its shoddiness in Internet Explorer.
Here is the link to my site: http://web.me.com/ikonic.images/ikonic.images/Welcome.html
It's been said that some of you saviors out there might be able to tell what's wrong just by visiting the site. It's also been said that you might be able to offer me some ideas and advice on how to fix it and at least get it to look respectable on IE. Please visit my site if you don't mind lending assistance in this manner.
The main issue my site seems to be having in IE is with Text Overlapping. Primarily on the "Welcome" page, and the "Services" page. In iWeb, the font selected (Gills Sans) shows up smaller, but in IE it's larger and ends up overlapping the text beneath it. Obviously, IE viewers can't read much of the overlapped text.
I hope someone can shed some light. Meanwhile, I'm going to continue reading up on just how unimpressive IE is, and tinker with the site some more. Thanks!

Which I think means that almost 200 of the fonts listed in iWeb '09 will cause problems when viewed on a PC. No?
Are you familiar with the concept of Web (or Browser) Safe Fonts? In Fontbook there is a collection for that called Web. Here is some more info:
    http://www.ampsoft.net/webdesign-l/WindowsMacFonts.html
If you use a font which the viewing machine does not have installed, something else will be substituted. Whether that will cause a problem can only be determined by testing. In iWeb you can also turn your text into a graphic by adding an invisible degree of shadow to it, and that will ensure the viewer sees the same font that you are using.
